Title Of A Document Contains A Period And Is Stopping The Code
Jun 14, 2007
I have a two documents whose names contain periods out of 70. Example is St._Paul and St._Louis_Park. When I run through the code it stops it with the error that the name cannot be found. My list looks like this..
Club Name
Eagan
Apple_Valley
St._Paul
etc.
When I remove the period it works. Is there a way to make it work with the period in there so I don't have to change a bunch of files and documents? Here is the code...
Sub OpenUp()
Dim wb As Workbook
Dim ws As Worksheet
Set wb = Workbooks(ThisWorkbook.Name)
Set ws = wb.Worksheets(1)
With ws
TotalRow = .Cells(1, 255).End(xlDown).Row
Finalrow = .Cells(TotalRow, 1).End(xlUp).Row
End With
For i = 2 To Finalrow
clb = ws.Cells(i, 2)
psw = ws.Cells(i, 3)
psw2 = ws.Cells(i, 4)
mnth = ws.Cells(i, 5).........................

I have event procedures for the following form events: Before update, After Update, On Open, On Load and On Activate and I have added a breakpoint to every event.
However, despite breakpoints in all these pieces of code the form opens and closes without the code stopping to allow me to debug by manually stepping through the code.
Have I done something fundamentally wrong, I'm still a newbie at VBA?

I've got a userform for pricing items and am having an issue when changing margin. I want to validate the user enters in .22 or 22%. The code places the decimal value in a worksheet just fine and runs back end calculations. I want to make sure no one fat-fingers .12b by accident so I came up with the following code. It seems to run fine, but if I tab over a couple of textbox (there are 4 Margin textboxes) it trips the coding for that textbox even if there was no change to the value.
Code:
Private Sub txtPDLaborMargin_AfterUpdate()
If IsNumeric(txtPDLaborMargin.Text) Then
Range("LaborMargin") = txtPDLaborMargin
[Code].....
how to validate the value is numeric

I have a program that updates values quarterly when run. The spreadsheet that it works with also contains a couple of pie charts that correspond to the updated data. the charts only have one series with category values. I recorded a macro to see the code excel uses for creating a new chart and tried to modify the statements to my needs but have been running into runtime error 1004 ("Method ' Cells' of Object '_Global' failed"). The code is as follows I don't have any trouble until the last two statements.
Sub Chart_Updater()
Sheets(Chart1var).Select
With ActiveChart
.HasTitle = True
If Chart1var = "COLI VUL 1 Fund Chart" Then
.ChartTitle.Text = "COLI VUL 1 Allocation by Fund Provider " _
& sday & "-" & sday & "-" & Lyear
ElseIf Chart1var = "COLI VUL 2 Fund Chart" Then
.ChartTitle.Text = "COLI VUL 2 Allocation by Fund Provider " _
& sday & "-" & sday & "-" & Lyear
ElseIf Chart1var = "COLI VUL 7 Fund Chart" Then
.ChartTitle.Text = "COLI VUL 7 Allocation by Fund Provider " _
The variables fundtr1, fundtr2, and emptycolvar are public, and are all returning values, so there is no problem there. Also I can't use ranges like "A1:F7" because the range needs to be variable.

My problem is that I have a worksheet tab (RawTimeSheetData) which contains a whole series of week/timecode values for a range of people.
I want to accumulate the hours for an invoice period / job code combination. As an example in the tab InvoicePeriodSummaryTimes cell D6 i want to sum all the hours from RawTimeSheetData where both cells A6 & B6 from InvoicePeriod tab = cells D6 & E6 from the rawdata tab.

I have my VBA Code set up to open a specific file and copy paste that information into this open spreadsheet in a particular sheet.
The only problem I have is that I don't know how to close the document once its opened.
I know that I can manually close it, but I want my macro to take care of it for me.
If anybody has suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
Here is my code so far to help out.
Sheets("Ann Ret Data").Select
Range("A1").Select
Workbooks.Open Filename:="P:InvINVpubAndrew EdgarMarket Value Projectperformance_data.xlsx"
Columns("A:G").Select
Selection.Copy
Windows("Qtr-End Market Value Project2.xlsm").Activate
Range("A1").Select
ActiveSheet.Paste
Also the file I want to close is the Performance_Data.xlsx file.

I currently have a code that searches a folder, opens a spreadsheet, and then copies over the "Status" tab to the Master document.
New spreadsheets will be created a couple times a week, so I would like the code to be able to search this folder for the most recently modified document and then open THAT document.
So, if my folder has..
Report 10May11
Report 05May11
Report 17May11
Then, I would want a code to search in this folder for the most recently updated document (in this case "Report 17May11.xlsx) and then go through the step I have above where it copies over the various tab.
Basically, this code would I guess replace the example code I have below.
Sub WorkbookOpen()
....
End Sub

I am experiencing odd behavior with Excel (v. 14). When a spreadsheet is opened, format setting of almost all cells in the workbook have changed to a custom code that reads "[$-409]0%". AFAIK the first part is not even a valid tag.
Because the underlying data is not changed, I can just select cells and reset formatting to "Number" or "General" and everything's fine. However, I'd like to get to to the root of the problem.
The problem occurs with only some workbooks. I should mention that the workbooks are circulated in different language versions of Excel, which may contribute to the problem.

I have been automating reports that will be generated in word documents for every company. The baseline is that I have a excel sheet which contain the data inputs and a word template document (template with bookmarks). I have written a macro that generate the reports when the user clicks the button but found that there some reports that generates empty bookmarks since there is no data for the corresponding bookmark. I have uploaded the excel sheets that has the full data and the setup sheets. The setup sheet has the Column Number, Bookmark Name, Description. The data sheet has the data values and the code info sheet has the name of the template doc and the name of the destination folder where the reports will be generated and stored. My requirement is to delete the empty bookmark from the report named "Blackberry". where to write the macro for deleting the empty bookmarks and its sentences (whether its in excel book or word template doc)?

I'm trying to get certain Excel cells (varies by column and row) to populate different areas in a Word document. I've tried using both Word bookmarks and form fields and have defined the Excel names with the Word bookmark names as well as using Word's generic terms (Field1, Field2, etc.) with no luck. The VBA code I'm using now is for word forms and will open the Word document but seems to delete the form fields. I don't know if I'm not coding the cells correctly or what.
Sub CreateProposal()
Dim wdApp As Word.Application
Dim wdDoc As Word.Document
Set wdApp = CreateObject("Word.Application")

I am processing a fair few Invoices, which are being sent to me via e-mail as excel documents, very often they contain mistakes, a decent amount of mistakes. Usually the prices are wrong.
I keep track of every single entry on the invoice on my own document - Tracker, which I consider to be the superior/more correct document to the Invoice presented to me by my contractor.
Both of the documents have a reference number, which is a specific docket number, and horizontally, in the invoice, there is going to be a price for this docket. In my document, there is going to be a separate column for the total price.
Is it possible (I guess with VBA) to check for mistakes in the Invoice, but use the Tracker as a reference for this check.
Tracker has
columns
A - Name
B - Department
C - Date
D - Docket No.
C - Total price for the docket (calculation of E to Z)
E to Z - all smaller entries
Invoice has
columns
A - Date
B - Docket No.
C to E price for that docket, but it is spread, because departments are separated out, so each VAT account can be charged accordingly. I guess it is possible to do a separate column for the price, if it is easier to do a script that way.
Basically, I need to check if in the Invoice document, the price (C to E) for Docket No. (B) is the same as the price (C) for the Docket No. (D) in the Tracker.
I would like the wrong entries to be highlighted on the Invoice Document, so I can see straight away, that this needs attention.
Not always the price is wrong, sometimes the Docket No. is spelled incorrectly (Dyslexic contractor), hence the highlighting.

In my main macro I have a line that makes it jump into a timer subroutine that starts the main macro every 30 seconds. However, I also have a line in the main macro that makes it jump into another subroutine at 2pm everyday that sends out emails. The problem is that if the timer starts the main macro again before the sending emails subroutine finishes, then it will only finish sending a portion of the emails before it jumps back into the main macro. Is there any way to stop my main macro once it recognizes that it needs to jump into the email sending subroutine, or a way to at least stop the timer subroutine?
the part of my code the jump into the sending emails subroutine and the timer subroutine look like this so far:
If timevalue(now()) >= timevalue("14:00:00") And timevalue(now()) < timevalue("14:00:31") _
Then DAILY_REPORT
End If
StartTimer

I have written the macro;
Sub
For i = 2 To FinalRow
If Cells(i, 1).Value = Range("A1") Then
Cells(i, 1).Select
End If
Next i
End Sub
And I was wondering if there was a way to end the Sub as soon as it gets to the Cell with the “A1” value in it as opposed to just continuing through all the rows to the end of the sheet even after the right value has been found?

I am running a timer in XL using the Application .OnTime Method.
Everywhere I've looked tells me that the procedure to stop the timer is
Sub StopTimer()
On Error Resume Next
Application.OnTime earliesttime:=RunWhen, procedure:=cRunWhat, schedule:=False
End Sub
I have this code in with the timer, but when I hit F5 or go to Tools--->Macros--> and Run the StopTimer Macro the timer just keeps running.
how I can properly call this procedure and stop the timer?

I'm using Application OnTime to fire a procedure every 30 mins. It works great, but the workbook tries to reopen itself when i close it (but not if i close excel entirely). I assume this is because I haven't stopped it anywhere. So I put a call to a procedure that has: Application.OnTime RunWhen, cRunWhat, , False
In the "Workbook_BeforeClose" event. This doesn't solve the problem. What am I missing?
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)
StopTimer
End Sub
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
StartTimer
End Sub
(module1)
Public RunWhen As Double
Public Const cRunIntervalSeconds = 1800 ' thirty mins
Public Const cRunWhat = "dothis"...............................

I am looking to stop the user saving the sheet if certain fields are not complete.
The sheet has headers on line 4 and runs from A4 to M500
In the M cells there is a counta function to check the records are complete.
M4:M500 shows either
Complete - All records comlpete
Incomplete - something missing
Blank - nothing entered yet.
What i want to do is, if one of the cells in M shows incomplete not allow them to save the sheet until its complete.
I tried the folowing (was my attempt to modify another post)

I am trying to stop this code from re-occurring at the end of the spreadsheet. There are two constants that will always appear as text, one is "blank" and the other is "Grand Total". I would prefer to use "Blank" if possible. The spread sheet varies in size from day to day. I have a range right now in use up to A700. I did this because when I originally put in a column formula, it ran until 20000 + rows down. Can someone please provide me with a formula that stops this code once it reaches the bottom of my spread sheet?
