Stopping User From Typing In Textbox

Jul 4, 2009

I have a textbox in a user form that I'm using as a way for someone to view what I've written but not for them to write in. Is there a way to easily disable them from writing in the text box?

Stopping User Saving Unless Condition Met.

Mar 6, 2008

I am looking to stop the user saving the sheet if certain fields are not complete.

The sheet has headers on line 4 and runs from A4 to M500

In the M cells there is a counta function to check the records are complete.

M4:M500 shows either

Complete - All records comlpete
Incomplete - something missing
Blank - nothing entered yet.

What i want to do is, if one of the cells in M shows incomplete not allow them to save the sheet until its complete.

I tried the folowing (was my attempt to modify another post)

Validate Textbox As Numeric But % Stopping Code

May 16, 2013

I've got a userform for pricing items and am having an issue when changing margin. I want to validate the user enters in .22 or 22%. The code places the decimal value in a worksheet just fine and runs back end calculations. I want to make sure no one fat-fingers .12b by accident so I came up with the following code. It seems to run fine, but if I tab over a couple of textbox (there are 4 Margin textboxes) it trips the coding for that textbox even if there was no change to the value.

Code:
Private Sub txtPDLaborMargin_AfterUpdate()
If IsNumeric(txtPDLaborMargin.Text) Then
Range("LaborMargin") = txtPDLaborMargin

[Code].....

how to validate the value is numeric

Cannot Keep Typing In Userform Textbox After Change Event

Jul 31, 2014

I have a userform that i have set the showmodal property to false.

This form has a list box that is populated with a huge list of items. I have a textbox in the userform that i use as a filter. so as the user types in something it filters the results in the listbox.

This was working fine but I added to the code to put a tooltip in when hovering over a item in the listbox. (using windows API to achieve).

The problem now is after i type one letter in the text box and it runs the change event it doesnt place the cursor at the end of the textbox anymore to continue typing.

I have tried setting focus to the textbox at the end of the event but nothing happens. I have searched all over the internet with no luck.

Populate Textbox On User Form

Feb 9, 2007

File attached

1) I have a user form that picks data from a spreadsheet - This is for scheduling a course. Works fine

2) I have a second form which should do 2 things:
a) On the bottom half of the form, select people from sheet 'Staff'. Works fine
b) On the top part, I would like to select a course (using combo box) and fromt this select a date for when the course has been scheduled (from sheet 'Scheduled Courses'). Courses are run a few times so have multiple entries. With some help, have done this and it works well

The problem is that when I select a date for a course using combobox2, I would like to populate the text box 6 & 7 with the cost of the course and the location. This goes wrong as it starts taking cost and location from the first cell. Eg when i select SPIN Selling, all is fine as this are the first courses. However If I take 7 Habits, it gives me costs for SPIN. If I take OM, it still gives me costs for SPIN. The dates in combo box 2 appear fine

LeapYear User Error Entry In TextBox

Jun 28, 2006

I'm learning 'on-the-job' to code VBA macros and about a week ago I asked a colleague to test (UK/Australian) date entry into a textbox on a userform. I wanted to ensure users can enter virtually any acceptable date format. About 10 minutes after sending the colleague the workbook, she advised that inputting 29 February and a year that is not a leap year had the effect of showing the textbox date in reverse and transferring that date to the workbook with the year indicated as "29" eg. 06-Feb-29.

Since then, I've spent a good deal of time seeking a correction to the code. I've tried scripts for 'If IsLeapYear' with the 'MonthLength = 29' etc, various other if statements and shuffling the original date order of my code. The unadulterated code is below. Does anyone have an answer (other than an Error Handler with a msgBox, informing the user that the date format is wrong)?

Private Sub txtMonth_BeforeUpdate(ByVal Cancel As MSForms.ReturnBoolean)
Dim dDate As Date
dDate = DateSerial(Year(Calendar1), Month(Calendar1), Day(Calendar1))
dDate = txtMonth.Value
txtMonth = Format(dDate, "dd-mmm-yy")
On Error Goto EndMacro
Exit Sub
EndMacro:
MsgBox "The date format you've entered is not a valid format!"
txtMonth.SetFocus

On Error Resume Next

End Sub

Numeric Validation Of User Form Textbox

Aug 13, 2008

I want one procedure that will validate the CURRENT textbox (not named by name, to allow for the procedure to be included in the change event of several different textboxes), to see if it is numeric (decimal places allowed) in Excel 2007.

I followed the instructions here: {url}, which describe exactly what I want to do. So I put the final procedure listed on that page (the dynamic validation code) into the private module of the user form object as listed below:

Private Sub pipes_Change()

OnlyNumbers

End Sub

Private Sub OnlyNumbers()
'This procedure checks to see if the value
'of the current textbox is a number or not

If TypeName(Me.ActiveControl) = "TextBox" Then

If Not IsNumeric(.Value) And .Value <> vbNullString Then

MsgBox "Sorry, only numbers are allowed."

.Value = vbNullString

End If

End With

End If

End Sub

I then ran the form and typed a number into the "pipes" textbox that had been validated. A compile error is thrown: "Invalid or unqualified reference", highlighting the ".Value" portion of IsNumeric. I tried to remove certain parts of the code, such as the IF statement and the "And .Value <> vbnullstring", but nothing works. I have a feeling it is because this code was created for Excel 2003 (though I'm not certain).

User Form Frames Hindering Textbox Text

Oct 21, 2009

I have a question regarding frames and textboxes on a user form.

I have a user form that has a number of textboxes populated from the results two Comboboxes.

I decided to group some of the textboxes in frames for more logical viewing.
I grouped the textboxes, moved them, placed two frame controls on the form then, finished by replacing the grouped textboxes. No code was altered or added.

When I ran the form, only the Comboboxes were functional and the text boxes were blank.

There were no runtime errors or compile problems.

UserForm - Keep User In Textbox If They Made Format Input Error

Oct 27, 2012

I have a userfrom with a text box which is used to receive a telephone number from the user. The 'Event' code that checks the formatting of the telephone number is "tbCustTel_Exit". If my user enters a format other than what is acceptable for a tel number, they get an error message telling them to re-enter.

My problem is they still end up EXITING that text box they made a mistake in? How can I override them exiting the text box if they make a mistake - and keep them in the text box so they can try and re-enter the tel number again?

Stopping A Macro

Mar 22, 2007

In my main macro I have a line that makes it jump into a timer subroutine that starts the main macro every 30 seconds. However, I also have a line in the main macro that makes it jump into another subroutine at 2pm everyday that sends out emails. The problem is that if the timer starts the main macro again before the sending emails subroutine finishes, then it will only finish sending a portion of the emails before it jumps back into the main macro. Is there any way to stop my main macro once it recognizes that it needs to jump into the email sending subroutine, or a way to at least stop the timer subroutine?

the part of my code the jump into the sending emails subroutine and the timer subroutine look like this so far:

If timevalue(now()) >= timevalue("14:00:00") And timevalue(now()) < timevalue("14:00:31") _
Then DAILY_REPORT
End If

Stopping Text From Repeating At The End Of Spreadsheet

Jan 20, 2009

I am trying to stop this code from re-occurring at the end of the spreadsheet. There are two constants that will always appear as text, one is "blank" and the other is "Grand Total". I would prefer to use "Blank" if possible. The spread sheet varies in size from day to day. I have a range right now in use up to A700. I did this because when I originally put in a column formula, it ran until 20000 + rows down. Can someone please provide me with a formula that stops this code once it reaches the bottom of my spread sheet?
