Is it possible to assign values to letters (eg. a=1, b=2, c=3... z=26) and then count the total sum of those letters in a cell
Example
A1= car
car is c=3 + a=1 + r=18 which would make the total to be shown in A2 3+1+18=22
With this code i would like to create a subtotal of all letters per row and a batch total of the column with subtotal.
I am trying to use SUMPRODUCT on one of my excel files. the condition is that it will try to count all those cells that contain certain letters. i tried using this formula, =SUMPRODUCT(--('All Computers'!$A$2:$A$100000="USA*"),--('All Computers'!$E$2:$E$100000="June")), but I am getting a 0 value.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to count the number of certain letters in a given cell. I figured out the formula when there is not a repeat of a targeted letter. For example, if multiple C's appear in cell A1 I will only get a value of 1 and not the exact number.
Here is my formula.

I can either use excel or access or write this.
Example 1 , r = 2 , I = 1, L = 3. .
If I write RIL in column 1 , column 2 should say 213 and column 3 should add 2+1+3 and display 7.
Example 2:
Col 1 = Infosys Ltd
Col 2 should say 1587313 344
Col 3 = 1 + 5 + 8+ 7+ 3+1+3 3+4+4 = 39 , 3+ 9 = 12 , add 1+2 = 3

Assign the Value of 1, to (D8) when any value entered in (C9) is equal to or over 380, but less than 410.
Assign the Value of 2, to (D8) when any value entered in (C9) is equal to or over 410, but less than 440.
Assign the Value of 3, to (D8) when any value entered in (C9) is equal to or over 440, but less than 470.
Assign the Value of 0, to (D8) when any value entered in (C9) less than 380.
I am trying to make a macro that when clicked, will randomly choose one of 7 values and type that into cell C4. Values can be Dodgeball, Football, Soccer, Tetherball, Soccer, Baseball, Basketball. Is this doable?

Range S28:S46 will assume the name of sheet2A11 & sheet2A3.
(example name period_1unit_1)
Range U28:U46 will assume the name of sheet2A11 & sheet2A4.
Range W28:W46 will assume the name of sheet2A11 & sheet2A5
Right now I am calling the code when something is entered into A11.
I have tried if statement and select case, but I ran into complications with both.
I have posted both codes with the questions I have concerning those codes.
For example, I have the numerical value "400" in R1C2 and that value would be used in the name "D400" which is to be assigned to R1C1:R5C2.
The code I have is:

but is throwing up the error:

DRow increases dependant on other variable data.
Also, am I right to be using R1C1 instead of A1, or can the same be achieved using A1 references? If so, I think I may not be able to see the wood for the trees.

2) If there are brackets that cell would be subtracted from the total, again ignoring any letters.

I have a range of data on one worksheet that is pulled into a pivot table on another worksheet. Looking at the table below I would like to assign the values in the pivot table to a 1 if there is data. For example if any field is >0 I would like to assign it a 1. If not leave it blank. My concern is to automate this process using a VBA code. How can I search for the keyword given in Table 2 in the first column of Table 1 and assign the group names as it is assigned currently, considering the below conditions and criteria.
1) The correct group name should be assigned to the Domain name containing the keyword given as per criteria in Table 2
2) It is possible that the domain name will include more than one keywords given in Table 2. For example Cell number A7 contains both keywords NCG and EXC, in such cases the preferance should be given to EXC and we will assign the group name as EEC. And in Cell number A12 also contains both NCG and DMZ, again the preferance should be given to DMZ and we have to assign group name as ETIS.
That means we will give second preference to keyword NCG. If domain name contains none of the keywords except NCG as per given criteria then only we will assign grup name DOSS.
how can i count the number of filled rows and columns (containing both characters and numbers) in a worksheet through a macro? do not tell the individual functions like count or CountA.

I would like to assign each prg its own color on the total tab, and if it spans multi programs a separate color all together.
I need to be able to count all the blanks in columns other than A but only until the last used cell in column A. I am using a formula right now that counts the blanks in column A until the last used cell but I don't know how to apply the range of column A to other columns like B and C. Here is an example of what I hope to accomplish:
Formula used in A1 that I need applied to other columns but with the range of column A

When I try to use IF formulas it is asking for text but I don't want it to look at text and just the color.
I am using the following but need to add an additional factor into it and not sure how.

I have been using the wrong formula to count total entries in columns and only just found this error. The MAX formula in cell B4 is: =MAX($B$12:$B$36). If the all the rows are full within range F12:F36, then the MAX formula is fine to count the total within range B12:B36 (25) so I thought. But sometimes there are omissions between F12:F36. If there are 2 blank cells anywhere within F12:F36 for example, then B4 needs to show 23 respectively. In the sample WkBk B4 needs to show 8

In these cells are various letters, numbers, etc. In some cells, the letter "L" appears not at all, sometimes once, sometimes multiple times.
I need a formula (or another method), that counts the number of times "L" appears in the range of B1 to Q80 (and not outside this range). Unfortunately, COUNTIF wont do the trick since sometimes in a single cell, "L" appears multiple times and would get counted only once.
I prefer a formula, because I have to do the same thing for the letters D, H, O, M, C, U, K.... I figure I could just copy/paste and modify slightly for each letter I'm trying to count the instances of. Unless of course there's an easier method.
I have a spreadsheet filled with either "B" or "S" in cells. Its 500 rows long (starts from row 2) and its 839 columns wide, but the cells begin to be filled with B and S after column 11. I would like to count all B's and all S's in each column, and add them....it works for B;s as it counts them up and spits the result in row 503, just as it is supposed to. But the counter for S, does not work.

I need a way to find a value in a column which has one or more corresponding values in an adjacent column. Then take all of the corresponding values found and count all occurrences of the found values in another column. But I only want to count the entries if an adjacent column is not blank.
Not the easiest thing to describe. Starting to wonder if I need to think in reverse. I hope the attached example makes more sense.

P=20, C=35, W=100
I have input the following:-

But for some reason it is inputting 35 for the value of P.
