Four Random Numbers Added After The Four String Characters
May 12, 2009
I know the randbetween portion of my code will not work - but how can I make this work with VBA? I need four random numbers added after the 4 string characters.
For Each R In MyNewR
If IsEmpty(R) Then
R.Value = Right(R.Offset(0, -1), 4) & _
Application.WorksheetFunction.randbetween(1, 9)
End If
Next R

I would like to ask if there's a way to generate a random 4 characters in one cell and the specific random 4 characters that has been generated will be copied until the last cell of my preferred choice?
The format that I want is that:
yymmdd / random 4 characters that has been generated / 4 numbers that will increment sequentially
For example:
in A1: 140330QWER0001
in A2: 140330QWER0002
in A3: 140330QWER0003
.
.
.
.
.
But here's the catch, the file that I am using when closed then opened again will generate another random 4 characters with the same format. If i opened this file tomorrow:
for example the date for tomorrow is March 31, 2014, the file will do:
in A1: 140331TYUI0001
in A2: 140331TYUI0002
in A3: 140331TYUI0003
.
.
.
.
.
I tried to record it, the Rand() function when copied will generate another 4 characters.

I've been using excel for quite sometime but have never tried the macro system or posting VBA code so I'm wanting to get my feet wet with a little project.
I want to make a button on a sheet that when pressed generates a random number between 3 and 18, ideally it would make a new set of random numbers if pressed again.

Wondering if it is possible to generate a random 4 digit number based off an alphanumeric string?
Example;
Cell A1 has 123XVF1234
Cell A2 has 321AFW4321
In B1 I would like to have a 4-6 digit number that is generated based on the alphanumeric data in Cell A1 (and so on down the list). If that is possible, I would also need to be able to convert back the 4-6 digit number back to its original alphanumeric value
Example;
If B1 returns 643562 it would need to be able to be converted back to 123XVF1234

I am working on a Random Cycle Count Generator that provides random SKU#s based on 3 separate columns of SKU listings. The user clicks a button to generate the SKU#s to cycle count for that day. What I would like to see is a date stamp in the columns next(B,D,F) to the referenced SKU listing(A,C,E) based on which SKU#s are generated. This will let me see the last date that the SKU was generated. I would also like it to automatically save after generating.

I have two columns of numbers (this week - Column A and last week - Column B). What I need to do is look at the numbers and pull two lists out in Columns C and D. In columns C a list of the numbers that are missing from last week in column D numbers that are missing that were added from the previous week. The two lists consist of about ten thousand rows of data.

I have the following type of info in A1,A2,A3...
Code:
nameGaryage40cityPittsburgheight190
age30height150
ameLindacityMichigan
citySan Jose
ameHarryheight180age50
My goal is to get as close as possible to this,so it will be easier to sort and manage
Code:
nameGaryage40cityPittsburgheight190
nameLindaage30cityMichiganheight150
nameHarryage50citySan Joseheight180
I can't use the "" sign as delimiter to separate them into different columns because the age,city,name and height fields are in random positions on different cells.The good thing is person's name will always come after "name" string, age is alwals followed by "age" string, so it cannot be like nameheight40Michigan180
I think the following would be the easiest method(not for me tho).If on B1 I had a formula that said "find the string "name" and write anything after it until you reach the next "" character".On C1 field I could have a formula "find the string "age" and write anything after it until you reach the next "" character.On D1 I would have the same for "height" string,then on E1 for city string.
My question is somewhat similar to this one
Extract A String Between Two Characters
Formula which outputs the data between 3rd and 4th instances of the "_" character.Can we substitute "3rd and 4th" with a specific strings like "age" or "height" ?
Code:
=TRIM(LEFT(SUBSTITUTE(MID(A1,FIND("|",SUBSTITUTE(A1,"_","|",3))+1,LEN(A1)),"_",REPT(" ",LEN(A1))),LEN(A1)))

Every week I get sent a spreadsheet with the hours booked against specific codes, however, each weeks data is in a separate column (from weeks 1-52).
What I require is a macro that will check the heading title of each weeks data e.g. WK01, WK02 etc, work out what week it is and input the week number in a new column (Week No) corresponding to that weeks data and also total the time for that week and enter in the Total Hours column
Please see attached a sample spreadsheet for clarity.
Please also note that I have asked this question before (http://www.excelforum.com/excel-gene...o-columns.html) and DonkeyOte kindly supplied me with the code to work out the week number i.e.
=IF(COUNT($D2:$BC2),SUBSTITUTE(LOOKUP(9.99999999999999E+307,$D2:$BC2,$D$1:$BC$1),"Hrs WK",""),0)+0
however, as the weeks progress I have to manually copy the week number down and add the totals up so I believe a macro would be the best option as I am currently repeating the same task every week.
The macro needs to:-
(a) work out the week number and enter in ‘Week No’ column
(b) macro to copy each weeks data into Total Hours column
I would be most grateful for any assistance in this matter

I have random comments in a column of cells of which I'm searching for a specific string of characters that may be contained in each cell. I want to pull 2 pieces of data from this specific string and place the data in 2 other cells in the same row.
Sample comments in cell 'N1':
..... blah, Appt: Friday; 12/4; night drop off. blah, blah....
Sample comments in cell 'N2' (and so on and so on):
.....blah, blah, Appt: Thurs; 12/3; 12:30PM. blah, ....
The specific string in the above examples will always begin with:
APPT:
Then the key elements found directly after the 'APPT:' are:
Thurs; 12/3; 12:30PM.
(which are the)
DAY; DATE; TIME.
These elements will be always separated by the semi-colon ';' and the string will always end with the period '.'
I need a pair of formulas to be in col 'J' & 'K' to extract the DATE and place it in column 'J' and the TIME and place in column 'K', both in each same rows.
So, from the 2 above samples I would need the following:
in Cells:
J1 - 12/4 ....... K1 - night drop off
J2 - 12/3 ....... K2 - 12:30PM
I've been trying to come up with a formula using a combination of FIND() & MID(),

For example, A1:a100 to be populated with a random number between 1 and 100, but not to duplicate, using every possible number within that range. I use the RANDBETWEEN function to generate the numbers, but I cannot prvent them from duplicating.

I want to select any record where 5th and 6th character from the right hand end of the string which = either "SP" or "TQ". Where this is the case I'm then looking to truncate the string to remove the last 7 chacters.
None of what I have so far found using mid or right string appears to be particularly applicable.

I'm trying to remove everything after a specific character in a string.
I.e. change a website address to the hostname
http://www.excelforum.com/newthread.php
http://usa.excelforum.com/forum/new
to
excelforum.com
usa.excelforum.com
I'm using this formula, which strips the http:// and the www., but does not replace the characters after the first remaining "/" as the wildcard is not recognized.
=SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(A2,"www.",""), A2,"http://",""), A2, "/*", "")

I'm importing data from the internet. The cell I'm trying to get is B8 on "Temp_Data" onto cell E3 on "Other Data". When it imports the cell into Temp_Data for some reason the cell expands, and I can't have that. I would manually copy and "Paste Special", text, into the proper cell, and that works. I can also copy the fist 7 letters in the string from B8 and paste them into E3. My code currently looks like this:

I'm having difficulty figuring out how i can Trim the last 3 characters from this string
Code:
FeatureCode1 = Split(errorChecker.lstErrorMessage.List(0), " [")(0))
I tried
Code:
FeatureCode1 = Left(Split(errorChecker.lstErrorMessage.List(0), " [")(0)), 3)
But that only SHOWS the last 3 characters... how i can just cut off the last 3 characters?
I'm guessing something to do with TRIM, but not sure how to implement it?

I am trying to count the characters in a string in one cell. For example, I want to count the number of "-"'s in the cell. The version number of part numbers is always the last two characters if the value contains at least one "-". However the parts have a non standard number of characters.
444444 = 0
444-44 = 1
44-44-44 = 2
There can be 0,1 or 2 "-" in the string. I can use the substitute formula to get the root part number, but I was wondering if there is an easier way. The raw data is from our ERP system, so I multiply the value by 1 to get a number if there are no "-" for the vlookup in another formula to work....

I have a set of data in column a that consists of email addresses. These email addresses all have underscores after them, ie "abc@hotmail.com_______". It will be a different amount of underscores everytime and I don't want underscores to be removed that are actually part of the address. I had been using the find replace function through vba, ie
Range("A:A").Select
Selection.Replace What:="_", Replacement:="", LookAt:=xlPart, _
SearchOrder:=xlByRows, MatchCase:=False, SearchFormat:=False, _
ReplaceFormat:=False
however this ofcourse removes from actual parts of the email address. Is there a way to do this?

I've come across multiple times where I have to do this same sort of task, and I don't think I am doing it the most efficient way.
What I need to do is take a variable which holds a string and remove the last 9 characters from it. Don't need to know what the last 9 characters are, all I care about is knowing what the other characters are in the string. I know this can be done through thingslike susbstrings, but I don't think VBA has a substring function.
