Function That Returns The Position (numberical Order) Of A Cell Within An Array
Apr 25, 2007Is there a function that returns the position (numberical order) of a cell within an array?

View 9 Repliesfind a formula that would act as a vlookup but would look up and return a value even if it is not on the first position within the array. I have an SAP export that has on Column A the batch number and on column B the item description. The thing is that within the multiple batch number arrays it allocates on column B the item description only for one row and randomly (sometimes first, last or in the middle).

In calculating the miles per gallon, I need to subtract the first gallon amount entry of the total gallons in the month, then divide that number into the difference of the mileage in the month recorded when the vehicles fueled up.
I'm trying unsuccessfully to write a function that looks for a column in a pivot table and returns the entire column as a text string. The function should take a pivot table and a text string as an argument. The text string is the name of one of the columns. The function needs to return the entire column (excluding the header and footer rows) as an array.
In the example I pasted below, the function should take the pivot table (PivotTable1) and a color, say "Red", as arguments, and then return the values in the Red column as a 48x1 single vector array, in the order shown, starting with 43 and ending with 1. I can only post a text version of the spreadsheet; I was not able to post the actual spreadsheet.

I'd like to add items on a UserForm1 ComboBoxes in the correct order but I can't. That's because with the code below, in ComboBox6P1 the items are added with mixed order:
For Each thing In .Range("AC6", .Range("AC65536").End(xlUp)).SpecialCells(xlCellTypeConstants)
If Trim(ComboBox4P1.Text) = thing.Value Then
For Each aNew In .Range("AD6", .Range("AD65536").End(xlToRight)).SpecialCells(xlCellTypeConstants)
If aNew.Row = thing.Row Then
ComboBox6P1.AddItem aNew.Value
End If
Next
Exit For
End If
Next
I should add items in ComboBox6P1 in order -> AD6, AE6, AF6, AG6, AH6, the rest are empty cells. Instead of it adds AF6, AG6, AH6, AD6, AE6. When I change .SpecialCells(xlCellTypeConstants) to .SpecialCells(xlCellTypeVisible ) it adds it in the correct order but with another 200 emtpy cells in the ComboBox6P1. The format of the cells is General.

I am aware that you can use Match to find the position of an entry in an array, and the following code works as expected, returning an index of 4:

The list at the left is the data (A1:F1900) in the middle the table (is like a parking lot - place number), and in the right is the swap results, I mean if I put the table in front of the list, and want to know what place number 2 was before, I can see was in the position 7 in the table, next #6 was in 8 and so on, see the example:
Code:
2
6
25
31
37
50
1
2
3
4
5
6
[Code]...
when I go to swap the second line I mean 2-6-11-18-etc. the table has to move one cell down like this.
Code:
2
6
25
31
37
50
[Code]...
and for the next number, the same thing, the tabe go down one place and according from the new position swap the numbers.
The position talbe is on H:M from 1 to 500, I don't write H1:M500 because remember this table go down one row every time, and the results in O:T; well at least I don't find another way to explain.

The array mentions the same value as the reference cell does several times in one column. In the other column, however, are individual values. I would like to find a way so that when you change the reference cell, the values in the "Return Cells" correspond accordingly. See attachment

I have the following equation programed in Excel, (see file attached). I do not understand while the match funstion is not working the lookup value is the on in cell N1 the array is from B1:F1. The return value should be 3 but I get #NA instead at the begining I was thinking that the values were different but then I compared cell =D1=N1 and the result was TRUE, meaning that they are equal

View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is for a race track. Drivers sign in on one sheet. On that sheet there is 4 different columns. Column 1 lists the division that they race in. Column 2 is the name of the driver. Column 3 is his car #. Column 4 is the number that he draws that decides his starting position. Typically there is 2 heat races per division with the odd number that is drawn being in the first heat and the even number being in the second heat. I created a second sheet called heat races. I am using an index function with a small function with a row. I have my divisions listed separately with 2 heats per division. I want to display the car number per division but lined up by the position that they draw. I have figured out how to display all of the cars per division, but I can't figure out how to separate them by what they draw (odd and even and in order from lowest to highest).

In column D I have the time of the end of my shift. When I try to input =MIN(1;$D:$D) in column E, i get the same answer (0,625) for any row, while =$D:$D gives correct values. So I guess it has something to do with the MIN function

demonstrate that the return value of the MID function seems to be nothing I
can understand.
This expression:
=MID("6/10x",1,FIND("x","6/10x)-1))
returns 6/10 as text which makes sense. However I was under the impression
that when text in Excel contains numeric characters, it can be interpreted
as a number. So then how does the following expression,
=MID("6/10x",1,FIND("x","6/10x)-1)*1
return the result 38878? Does it still think it's text?
Im trying to do a lookup but when I drag the formula down it returns the wrong values and also returns #N/A or #REF (which I think means it's refering to a wrong range and cant find the data???). How can I do a look up function by dragging the formula down a long column of data eg. 65,000 rows in excel, that returns the correct text. I have attached a simple example- see attached.

Is there a way in which you can create an if function or similar to give a reason for why the cell of data has an error.
Basically i have some data in a table, and when a #num! error pops up id like to in the cell next to it give a sentence stating why this has happened.
E.G.
Cell A1 Cell B1
#Num! Number error due to 'x' being too small
