Loop To Increment Column Width Of Range Of Columns?

May 22, 2014

I'm trying to use the following loop to increment the column width of a range of columns thus:

Code:
NewWidth = 0
WidthIncrement = 0.5
For MyCount = 1 To 26
NewWidth = NewWidth + WidthIncrement
Cells(1, MyCount).EntireColumn.ColumnWidth = NewWidth
Next

If I set WidthIncrement to be an integer value, the code works correctly. If, however, I make it something like 0.1, all the column widths that the loop acts on are set to 0. I suspect it's something to do with how I'm declaring the NewWidth and WidthIncrement variables - they're currently set to Double. I know that I can have decimal values for column widths (e.g. 8.43)

Finding Max Column Width Without A Loop?

Jun 28, 2006

I have a range of cells which I wish to print to a .txt document. However, I would like these cells to stay aligned, one on top of the other. I am currently doing that by finding the cell with the widest piece of data for each column, and storing the width that each column needs to be to an array of integers. Then, when printing out the range, I simply add spaces to each piece of data its width is the same as the max column width. I am finding the max column width using the following loop:

'find the width for each column and store in col_width()
For cur_col = 1 To total_cols
'skip the tag switches column
If cur_col <> 3 Then
max_data_width = 0
For cur_row = 1 To total_rows
cell_data_width = Len(Find_String_Diagnostics(diagnostic_range.Cells(cur_row, cur_col)))
If cell_data_width > max_data_width Then.................

else don't hide

'Step 1 : store the information in every second row in DBsheet
Set rngDataOut = Worksheets("Database"). Range("A65536").End(xlUp).Offset(2, 0)

'Step 2 : Post the current results
rngDataOut.Range("A1") = Now()
rngDataOut.Range("B1") = Range("B1")
rngDataOut.Range("C1") = Range("B2")
rngDataOut.Range("D1") = Range("B3")
rngDataOut.Range("E1") = Range("B4")

'Step 3 : Clear current Selection
Range("B1") = ""
Range("B2") = ""
Range("B3") = ""
Range("B4") = ""

my question is how could I modify it with for-next loop because the form will be with more than 50 entries.

I am experimenting one way to solve one problem, but to do this I have to Name some cells with some values, thing that normaly in VBA is symple but I have never done before in coding. May be my problem is because what I am doing is not valid with the vlookup but if you can take a look to my file. The problem is that when I run the Macros the Named Cells are totaly out of place...

Range("B" & dercell_unit, "E2").Select
Set Rango = Range("B" & dercell_unit, "E2")
For i = 2 To dercell_unit

Names.Add "RESOLdds", "=$D" & i

Increment Address References In Loop

Oct 11, 2007

I try to select a range with a counter, but cannot find how to do it.
My aim is in the following loop to select the range ("B,i:V,i").
B and V are the colum, i is the counter that marks the row number, counting from 8 to 16.

Sub Copy()

For i = 8 To 16
Sheets("DB2").Select
If Cells(i, 7).Value <> 0 Then
Sheets("DB3").Select
i = i - 1

Cells(i, 2).Select

'this is the cell that should be a range ("B8:V8") to ("B16:V16"), as the counter goes from 8 to 16

i = i + 1
Selection.Copy
Cells(i, 2).Select
ActiveSheet.Paste
Application.CutCopyMode = False

Else
End If
Next i
End Sub
the Sub works with a cell, can somebody please tell me how to turn the cell in the range?

How To Adjust Width Of Columns Faster

Nov 17, 2012

1. Is there a faster way to adjust the size of the columns? I had to use my mouse to stretch the column out. This can be quiet time consuming if there are 8 columns needing to adjust to the same size. ie Col A, B,I, J needs to be the same size.

2. Can Excel determine the best size for the column? Say I need a column with data saying "yes" and "no" and a column for the letter "X" only or do I have to stretch the width of the column myself?

Adding Column Widths Of Merged Area To Match Single Column Width

Sep 19, 2012

I needed to match the width a merged area of seven columns to a single column width (for row autofitting). Adding the column unit values and setting the single column to that value produced a significantly narrower width.

The documentation mentions that the column width unit is scaled to the font type and size and the absolute width is given in points.

This is set by the normal style setting in Excel Options or by VBA application.standardfontsize = 8 (in this case).

For instance, ten columns of Arial font 8 at 8.5 units you would think to be equivalent to a single column of 85 units.
In points, the difference is 420 vs. 386.25, or 33.75 points.

Well, the standard character zero has a width at this setting of 4.5 points and 1 unit is 8.25 points, leaving 3.75 points for margins.

Then (10-1) margins allowances time 3.75 points resolves the difference.

Determining the margin allowances is straightforward, and reveals that the gradation with size is stepped by MS design.
For instance, sizes up to 11 use 3.75 points for margins and increasing points for characters (except between 9 & 10).
Sizes 12 through 18 use 5.25 points, 20 & 22 use 6.75, 24 & 26 use 8.25, etc.

I have created a table for this purpose, however I rarely use a "normal" other than 8, so I can probably use that set in programming.

Columns Appear To Be Hidden But Will Not Respond To Unhide Or Width Change

Oct 6, 2013

I have just been sent a strange file, which I have attached, on its only sheet columns "A" and "B" have data entered in them, but they are not visible. You can access them if you select column "C" and use the left arrow key, but all attempts at unhiding and changing the column width are fuitless.

I have tried selecting the ENTIRE sheet, then Home>Format>Unhide Columns but it does nothing I try selecting the entire sheet, then Home>Format>Column Width and setting it to something, like "20", but again it is fruitless.

I even tried using a macro in the "Immediate Window" to ask Excel whether the columns are hidden (by using "?Columns(1).Hidden" and it returned "False") then I used a similar macro ("Cells.EntireColumn.ColumnWidth = 12.75") and again - nothing! :O

VBA Loop Range And Insert Values In New Column?

Mar 21, 2014

I built a Microsoft Access database for my church to track member information. I was able to import a lot of the needed information to create the records for each individual and household easily. What I can't do is import their offering donations until it is "Normalized." Which means that I need each row to be 1 record with the fields listed as the column headings. My church has a spreadsheet with several sheets one of which is named Input. I've attached the desensitized file for you to view/play with.

What I need to do is loop through the input sheet and find all the values in range B:4 to GN:387 that are greater than zero or not null (I believe they entered the default as zero so their other calculations would work). Then I need those values to be transferred to the column labeled Offering Amount on the ImporttoAccess sheet. Somehow I also need to define three variables associated with the cell that is contains a value greater than zero.

1. I need the row heading value for the envelope number (Column A of input sheet) which intersects with the amount

2. I need the column heading value (3 field merged) for the date (Row 1 of input sheet) which intersects with the amount

3. I need the column heading value (labeled: GenFund, WLA, or Missions) for the designation of the offering (Row 2 of input sheet) which intersects with the amount

Each of these I need to attach to the value offering amount and insert into their corresponding column fields for that record. I have entered 2 example rows of data into the ImporttoAccess sheet for you to see what I am after. I am sure it's possible since the data is there, But how to go about it.

VBA Listbox Column Width?

Or:

mystring = len(activrcell.value) or refer to the excel column width

listbox1.columnwidth(mystring;mystring2)

but I get an error message.

Or max of list len or something. The default width is to big and specifying the length could make it to small.
