Number Format (4 Decimals Places) In VBA
Jun 23, 2009
I am having an issue with number format in my VBA code. The entire column of column D is format as ###.0000 (4 decimals places). There are certains cells which require zero decimal places. I am using the following bit of code, but it is not working correctly. It is still formatting the cell as 4 decimal places.

Is there a way to format a number into 2 decimal places and when you select the cell you wont see the true value?
For example:
316.2696
I still see the 316.2696 when I click the cell. Instead of 316.27 only.

Below I have this formula in cell A6, in the cells the formula refers to B6 thru O6 contains formula's also. There is text and numbers in the cells. The cells with numbers are formatted as number to 4 decimal places.
The problem is in cell A6 the numbers go to 15 decimal places. I don't know why but I need to keep it to 4 decimal places.
=B6& "" &C6&G6&H6&I6&J6&K6&L6&M6&N6&O6
G01G41X0.0125Y0.0125D(offset#)F0.39
This how cell A6 is after the inputs are in below.
G01G41X0.01249976025Y0.01249976025D(offset#)F0.386021052631579
This is how I need it to be below.
G01G41X0.0125Y0.0125D(offset#)F0.3860
Can anyone figure this out.
Wheather it is a formula or vb code

Is there a way to format a cell based upon a condition? If the cell value is <1, I want to show two decimal places. If the cell is >1, I want to show zero decimal places. I tried to use the conditional formatting, but there is no option for this.

is there any way by which you can alter the number of decimals in a custom format using just custom format process (ie no VBA).
For ex:
12 should appear as 12
12.1 should appear as 12.1
12.26 should appear as 12.3
Note 12 should NOT appear as 12.0
So point being adding the "m" is an irrelevance at this time - the key is to vary the decimal points essentially based on MOD(value,1) = 0
If you can (I'm really thinking you can't) let's extend it such that 12.1 should appear as 12.1 but 12.26 as 12.26
I know you can use [value>x] type rules but I'm guessing you can't use formulae in those rules ?

I need a formula to take a number with several decimal places and round it up to two decimal places to either .33, .66 or, .00 if its above .66.
For example, 4.23423423423423 will be 4.33
4.43453453533434 will be 4.66
4.8353453453 will be 5.00
Lets say the number is in cell A1. What formula would do this?

When I set my cell for Numbers it wants a decimal place. If I set it to 2 decimals then 100.1 (One hundred point one) would look like 100.10 (and print 100.10). If I use 100.10 (One hundred point ten) it looks and prints 100.10. If I set the decimal to one then the problem is reveresed.
Setting to General looks like 100.10 (One hundred point ten) but when using VBa to match numbers it is matched to 100.1 not 100.10.
Now I have it set to Text, but I see when I replace (find & replace) values like find 100 replace 99 the 100.10 becomes 99.1.
Incedently I have a macro that compares (and copies cell values) numbers from one sheet to another and occasionally it skips a number, always a decimal value like 100.10 or 100.1. Or any thing x.10, x.1, x.3, x.19 any combination of x.x or x.xx.
Is there a way to format so decimal numbers are decimal numbers and trailing zeros arent omitted? If the value is one decimal I want one decimal, if its two decimals I want two decimals.

I have a problem with the currency format with 4 decimal places.
Sub go()
Range("C5") = Range("C5") + Range("C4")
End Sub
as you can see it adds the conecnt of "R4" to what is in "R5"
If works fine when the calls are formatted as number with 4 decimal places.
example if R4 is 0.1111 and R5 is 0.2222 after running the macro R5 becomes 0.3333
But if the cells are formatted as currency and 4 decimal places the then excel returns $0.3300

I have a list of cells that has two values concatenated. The first I would like to round to 2 decimal places, and the second is always a integer
Consider this formula..
Code:
=IF(SUMIFS('Analysis Data'!$I$5:$I$1840,'Analysis Data'!$C$5:$C$1840,3,'Analysis Data'!$E$5:$E$1840,1)=0,0,SUMIFS('Analysis Data'!$I$5:$I$1840,'Analysis Data'!$C$5:$C$1840,3,'Analysis Data'!$E$5:$E$1840,1)/COUNTIFS('Analysis Data'!$C$5:$C$1840,3,'Analysis Data'!$E$5:$E$1840,1,'Analysis Data'!$I$5:$I$1840,">0"))
&"("&COUNTIFS('Analysis Data'!$C$5:$C$1840,3,'Analysis Data'!$E$5:$E$1840,1,'Analysis Data'!$I$5:$I$1840,">0")&")"
In one cell this yields the value;
2.42553191489362(47)
In another it yields 2.975(40)
and so on..
I would like to format it to display as 2.43(47) and 2.98(40)
FWIW this means average of 2.43 games refereed per session in 47 sessions of refereeing.

Result = Datediff("M", Date1,Date2)
I need the result to be formatted to 2 decimal places ie 23.52 (months)
Not neccessary to use datediff if this doesnt work.
Please note I have cross posted this HERE because I couldnt get connected to ozgrid for some reason, I will montior both sites for a solution and post back results. Apologies for the inconvenience.

I need a cell to restrict the input:
-Only numbers are allowed.
-No date posible.
-Any amount of decimals (they must all be shown in the cell).
I tried using the data validation and using the IsNumber() to restrict any non numeral input. The problem with this approach is that if the user enters a date; it apprears as a date format (eg: "5.May"). I'm using an european excel, where the decimal separator is a comma instead of a point; so if a user accidentaly types "5.5" instead of "5,5"; the cell will show "5.May".
I also tried the cell format/number/number format. The problem in here is that I dont know how many decimal positions will the input number have; and I need them all to be shown.

I want round off number to be with the decimals (usually decimals r discarded for round off feature). I ll be able to explain better with an example.
10.36+10.36= 20.72. If i round it up, it vl be 21.
what i am tryin is to get 21.00 after round off.
I prepare my bills in excel and after total of all products, if i get a decimal number, I would like it be rounded off to whole number with decimal and 00 at the end (eg. 21.00 instead of 21.27 or 22.00 instead of 21.77). I tried to change decimals but when I select 2 decimal places, it gives me the actual fig(eg. 21.27 instead of 21.00)
I am already using =sum for the total so cannot use another formula (as far as i know, 1 cell can have only 1 formula. Dunno if multiple can be used in a single cell).

I’m using this code to change the value of an active cell with a spinner named: 1.
Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim lNum As Long
If IsNumeric(Target) Then
lNum = Target
If lNum = Target And Target >= 0 Then
With Me.Shapes("1").ControlFormat
.LinkedCell = vbNullString
.Value = Target
.LinkedCell = Target.Address
End With
Else
Me.Shapes("1").ControlFormat.LinkedCell = vbNullString
End If
End If
End Sub
The problem is, that whenever I click or activate a cell its value automatically changes to 0. The spinner works just fine modifying the value of the activated cell. The problem is that this code somehow causes all the decimals such as 0,3 0,1 or 0,8, entered manually, to change to 0. This way only integral numbers, such as 1, 45 or 100 are accepted. I must truly say I have no [no need to swear - mod] idea how to fix these problems meaning the automatically inserted 0 and the fact that the sheet doesn’t accept decimals changing them to an integral number.

I need a function to find the number of decimal places of a certain number (in this specific case doubles)
The first solution would be something like this:
Code:
'returns the number of decimal places within a double
Public Function getDecPlaces(inputNum As Double) As Long
Dim ndx As Long
ndx = InStr(1, inputNum, ".")
If ndx > 0 Then
getDecPlaces = Len$(CStr(inputNum)) - ndx
End If
End Function
But i feel there is likely a much better way of doing this..

I'm trying to create a formula which will allow me to do the following
1. Enter the number of jobs received
2. Divide it by the staff available without ending up with decimals.
As an example. Say I have 60 jobs to be allocated and there are 13 peeps to distribute them to I'm currently getting 4.62. What I need to do is make sure that the jobs are only issued as whole numbers. E.g 5 peeps gets 4 and 8 get 5. I also need to factor in jobs on hand etc but I have already cracked this.

content from form is captured via formulas to a CIMLoad format on another tab
Users keep entering four to six decimal places in weight value
I need to limit the cell to either whole numbers, or a maximum of 2 decimal places
The cell is formatted to two decimal places, but when you activate the cell it shows the full value they entered, and so does my CIMLoad
How to I limit the value in this cell to whole numbers or numbers with a maximum of two decimal places?

If you look at the attached file in Column E line 47 you will see that it displays
373.97. However if you look in the formula bar it shows 373.9694. I am trying to make it so that the formula bar shows the same number as in the cell. Any idea on how to do this? I have tried everything I know how to do, which is not much.

I am using Excel 2007 and importing a list of coordinates. The coordinates are in a text file and separated by commas, so I'm opening the file as a delimitted file. All of the coordinates import correctly except one. The value is supposed to 52530.6372, but Excel is automatically changing it to 52530.6371999999
If I manually type a "2" to replace the "1999999", it changes it back. If I type "3" it stays as a 3.
I added a round function to force it to round to 4 decimal places and that seemed to work until I then tried using the number with text commands. When I used an ampersand to insert the number into a text string, the additional decimal places are back, even with a round function!

Here's what I'm doing: I'm using a macro to assign a cell value to a variable then set another cell value to the variable instead of copy/paste (because even pasting values only was affecting other formulas in the file for some reason)
The problem: in using the macro, the number being 'copied' is acquiring a few extra decimal places IE 38334.61 is the original number and 38334.609375 is what I end up with. The numbers come from a CSV with only 2 decimal places and I checked by adding decimal places in the format so it's not a formatting/visible digits issue. Since the values are hour meter readings, the extra decimal places end up with very small values outside 0-24 hrs which messes with sorting and usage %. The values are so small all of them together in a month add up to a fraction of a cent but it's one of those things that bugs my OCD by not being right.
My VBA book explains the min/max capabilities, content type, memory bits but not fiddly details like this.
So my question is this: right now I'm declaring the clipboard-substitue variable as an single, is there a different one that would work better without adding anything? Criteria are: numeric, 6 digits before the decimal, 2 after, all positive values. (Ie 123456.12)
EDIT: fixed my senior moment.

I have a userform with 35 text boxes on which display data from a worksheet based on a selection made from a combobox.
My problem is that TextBox11 and TextBoxes 15-35 all need to show a value to 2 decimal places i.e 360.00.
I have found the following line of code:
Code:
For Each ctrl In Controls
If TypeName(ctrl) = "TextBox" Then ctrl.Value = Format(ctrl.Value, ".00")
Next ctrl
Which does the job but unfortunatley it applies it to every single textbox on the form (not just No's 11,15-35) which is a problem as some of the boxes contain dates so instead of 09/05/2012 i actually get 41038.00.
My question is how to I modifiy the above code (or is there an alternative code?) to only apply to the required textboxes?

However, when I copy the values from the cells on the source workbook and paste them into the target workbook, the numbers end up having 12 decimal places. Ultimately, this extra precision causes my totals to be off by .01 or more after a while. One of the reports I run provides me information on lengths of time. Such a field displays as |0:09:16| indicating 9 minutes and 16 seconds. However, when the report generates the excel spreadsheet it saves these cells in date/time format ([h]:mm:ss). If I were to convert this field to the number format (so I can manipulate and graph it) it displays as such |0.00643460648148148| Ideally I would be able to have the data in the field stored as |556| (556 seconds, or 9 minutes 16 seconds). I have thousands of fields that I need to manipulate where the data is stored in this format and I can not figure out how to fix it.
