I want to sum the values of two userform text boxes however I assume they are stored as strings so I get 1 + 2 = 12 - how do you convert strings to integers in VBA? It seems as though it's different to VB where you'd just use convert.toInt16() etc

fPath = "C:Will"

Would like to change

Unable To Open Excel File

Oct 12, 2013

I was able to open and read this file before installing Windows 8.

The background to this is that after installing Windows 8 and reinstalling Windows University 2010 my word documents and excel files where all opening up as word pad documents. I figured out the solution to the above on my own and I am now able to properly read the excel and word documents that I tested. But I am not able to read a very important excel file. It is very important that I restore somehow this file.

When I open the excel file a dialogue box open up saying "Excel found unreadable content in "Account.xlsx". Do you want to recover the content of this workbook? When I choose Yes the following dialogue box opens up saying "Excel cannot open the file "Account.xlsx" because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the extension matches the format of the file".

The file extension is set to xlsx however how do I test to see if it is corrupt. Is there anything I can do to restore this excel workbook?

Unable To Break Links To Another File

May 8, 2006

Last week I copied a worksheet from one spreadsheet into another, and have since been working from the new one. When I open the file I get a message box asking if I want to Update links from the other workbook. But I've deleted all named ranges, formulae, shapes, everything that could possibly link to the other workbook. I've also (in my frustration) completely deleted the sheet that was originally copied and re-made it from scratch. But it STILL comes up with this update box. In Excel's Help it says to go to Edit/Links and press Break Link, which I have tried but it doesn't do a thing. The link is still sitting there in the display box in the Links window - it says that the Type is Worksheet, I don't know if this makes any difference that it's not a formula or anything?

Also, in complete desperation when it wasn't deleting the link, I changed the source to a random file, so it now comes up with an error in updating (which it obviously would) however this doesn't have any effect on my file because as far as I can tell it no longer has links to the other file! I'm tempted to just go to the option that says don't show the Update prompt on opening (the file is to be handed in as coursework on Wednesday) but this doesn't solve the problem, only bypasses it! Each time I made a major change (e.g. recreating the copied worksheet, changing the source) I saved the file under a different name, so I have all old copies just incase I've completely messed it up!

Excel 2007 :: Unable To Convert Text Dates To System Dates

Oct 21, 2011

I am in strange situation where I have a data with Invoice Dates. These dates are in Text. However, when I convert it into reall excel dates. For some reason the dates do not come right. convert my text dates into excel real dates. I did a lot of google search and apply these three methods but all of these gave me strange result I was not expecting. These are the methods I used and the result of each method.

Method 1 : Using Text to Column Wizard (Excel 2007)

I highlighted invoice column and went into text to column wizard. I clikced on Date button, and selected MDY format. Strangely enough, my result was day, month and year i.e. DMY which does not seem right.

Then I press Control ~ on this data as shown in second view.

Inv DateMDY09/22/1122/09/201108/31/1131/08/201108/31/1131/08/201108/31/1131/08/201108/31/1131/08/2011

control ~ (overview)

Inv DateMDY09/22/114080808/31/114078608/31/114078608/31/114078608/31/1140786

2nd Method - Using formula to convert text date to real dates When I used formula, I get the following result. As you can see, formula is converting text dates into different system dates than the first method.Further strange things is when I take these system dates i.e. 4283 and in 2007 excel format use "Short Date" the same system date gets converted into wrong year as shown in the second view.

Inv DateFormulaFormula Result09/22/11=DATE(MID(B2,7,2),MID(B2,1,2),MID(B2,4,2))428308/31/11=DATE(MID(B3,7,2),MID(B3,1,2),MID(B3,4,2))426108/31/11=DATE(MID(B4,7,2),MID(B4,1,2),MID(B4,4,2))426108/31/11=DATE(MID(B5,7,2),MID(B5,1,2),MID(B5,4,2))426108/31/11=DATE(MID(B6,7,2),MID(B6,1,2),MID(B6,4,2))426108/31/11=DATE(MID(B7,7,2),MID(B7,1,2),MID(B7,4,2))4261

2nd view - system dates are getting converted into 1911

Inv DateFormulaFormula Result09/22/11428322/09/191108/31/11426131/08/191108/31/11426131/08/191108/31/11426131/08/191108/31/11426131/08/191108/31/11426131/08/1911

Similarly, I tried other methods or copying blanks etch but none seems to convert text dates into real (system dates).

Convert Text Delimited File To .xls File Using Vba

Nov 28, 2008

how to word it but if someone understands then please help. I have two excel data files namely Book1.xls & Book2.xls. Both files have different data in it. Both files contain macros. When these macros run the files become **FINALIZED** version.

Originally, I get the above files in my email as txt. attachments. I then move these two txt files to my desktop in a folder called Folder-1. Then I open these files as an Excel and save them.

Basically, I need to know if two txt files are sitting in a folder-1 on my desktop. What can I do or what can I clik that....those two text files get converted into excel automatically, including running that macro I talked about in the above paragrah.

To put it differently, if I have two txt files Book1.txt, Book2.txt in a folder, how can I automatically create an excel **FINALIZED**version which sits right next to their txt version.

Convert Each Row In Spreadsheet Into TXT Or XML File?

Nov 18, 2011

I have a spreadsheet with thousands of lines of code. Each row contains a complete code that needs to either be converted/pasted to a new .txt or .xml. Until now, just copying and pasting each line into a .txt file was necessary but there has to be a way to automate this. I would love to know if it's possible to extract each row(technically it is only a single cell per row, so its just a really large single cell) and add it to a .txt or .xml file?

Convert A Lotus File

>This is the function that was used in Lotus; it returns the name of a
>company by looking at the ID number. I need to keep it as pure as possible to
>the Lotus file.
....

Lotus 123's @DGET (and other database functions) are much more
sophisticated than Excel's counterpart functions. 123's can use
criteria expressions in the function calls. Excel's require criteria
ranges.

In this particular case, there's no need to use DGET at all. There's a
single criterion term, so VLOOKUP is sufficient. If the "Name" column
were the 4th column in Databaseread, then try

=VLOOKUP(GroupNumber,Databaseread,4,0)

Explanation: it appears you're just trying to find a particular group
number. DGET (and @DGET in 123) returns an error if there's more than
one entry. VLOOKUP returns the first matching entry. You're formula
makes it clear you want either the only matching entry or the first
matching entry. However, when there's only one matching entry it's also
the first matching entry, so VLOOKUP alone would have returned the
desired result.

I suspect you have other formulas that are more complicated, but you
believed the formula above would be a reasonable sample to provide. Not
so. If you have more complicated D-function calls, show them, not the
simple ones.

Does anyone know of a way to do this so that I can successfully copy and paste words from the document individually and not just wind up with an excel file with a picture of the PDF file in it?

Convert The Notepad File Into Excel

May 20, 2008

I have a notepad file that contains data. We need to convert the notepad file into excel and then segregate the data after conversion. Segregation point would be the point where in we can find keyword “Summary”. We need to create a macro that finds the occurrence of summary keyword. Then from the beginning till that summary point cut the entire data and paste in other worksheet. Name the worksheet as “Receivables” or “Payables” or “Fee Payable” depending what type of data that summary contains.

After creating different worksheets we need to format the worksheet in specific format.
For example: I have attached the “Recon1” XL file attached. Under Recon1 – “RECEIVABLES 1” contains the as is data converted from notepad. Later we need to modify the same data using macro as specified in “RECEIVABLES 2” and then as per the format available in “RECEIVABLES 3”.
