When I Enter The Password For Six Of The Files, I Receive The "Unable To Read File" Error Message
Apr 2, 2007
I have about 20 files that all have separate passwords. When I enter the password for six of the files, I receive the "Unable to Read File" error message.
I currently have a problem when retrieving data from an external document that is password protected. The below routine causes Excel to request the password to the file multiple times. Using the 'SendKeys' function provides a slight workaround although I am very keen to remove this. It also doesn't appear to update links once the routine has run though a couple of the 'For' loops.
I have it set so that the user has to input the first password request, but the 'SendKeys' simply hits enter for the rest of the requests. This doesn't stop the cells from being updated for the first run of the 'For m' routine but can fail on the following runs. Sometimes the second loop works, sometimes it doesn't and the user will have to manually update the links through the 'Edit Links' tool.
I tried turning Application.DisplayAlerts to false after the first password request but that didn't stop it from appearing. If it had, I was going to use the ActiveWorkbook.UpdateLink Type:=xlExcelLinks command to allow the user to update the links at the end.
Code: Private Sub CommandButton1_Click() 'Application.ScreenUpdating = False Dim d, m As Integer
My boss has come to me and asked how does she get her file to go back to the way it was before, she had a password on the file but you used to be able to click on a button that said "Read only" this button no longer appears and i am unable to get it back. I still get the password box pop up but it is smaller and does not contain the read only button.
I've got a spreadsheet that has password protection before you can "modify" it. All of a sudden today, when I open the spreadsheet and enter the correct password, it still opens but only as Read Only.
I would like to ask regarding checkbox checking. I have 1 master checkbox and 3 sub checkboxes on the userform, and my target is that if the master checkbox is selected then I want to receive a msg if one of 3 checkbox are not selected when I hit the "Confirm" commandbutton.
I have a table with data in 2 different columns. In the first column there are names of companies given to me by an outside source and they are labeled according to the way this outside company labels them.
In the second coulumn, There are names of the same companies, only this time they are labeled according to the way my company labels them.
I would like to use a formula or any excel function to find when the company name in the first column is at all different from any name in the second. If the name is different, I would like to receive an alert message, or just fill the cell red if it is easier.
I'm using 2003 (I know!) version & I can't open excel files directly by clicking on them. I get an "error in sending command" message. I can circumvent problem by opening Excel & then opening the relevant file, but this sometimes causes me problems.
I have an Excel application (Excel 2003) which is stored in the default Program Files folder by the Installer; for example: c:program fileszxchello.xls. The problem I am running into is this file opens as Read Only in Vista and this is interfering with the running of the application. There is no problem opening the file normally in Windows XP.
I have been able to narrow down the cause of this to the User Account Control system in Vista - if I turn OFF User Account Control, the Excel file opens normally and my application functions normally. Is there another option to open the Excel file without turning OFF User Account Control because some users may find it unacceptable to turn OFF this security feature. Ofcourse, one option is to install the application in another location, outside the Program Folder, and the file would open normally, but the Packaging Wizard that I am using to package the application does not allow me to install the application in any other location and thus, the application installs in the Program Folder and I am running into this problem of the Exel file opening as Read Only. Is there a way out of this situation where I can open the file normally (not as Read Only)?
The code below works nicely to insert a time stamp in column B when the user selects "Yes" in the corresponding cell in column A. The problem is if I try to delete any rows or clear the contents of the cells I receive a "Run-time Error 13 - Type mismatch." If I delete the contents of the cells one at a time I do not receive the error. What I am trying to do is the user has a list of items to select from in column A. Only if "Yes" is selected I want the time stamp in column B to appear.
Code is below.
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Excel.Range)
With Target If .Value "Yes" Then Exit Sub
If Not Intersect(Range("A1:A50"), .Cells) Is Nothing Then Application.EnableEvents = False With .Offset(0, 1)
I want to create a communication excel sheet. I want it in such a way that if any one of the team member make update and save the file, then the whole team should receive an email that the file has been updated.
I'm trying to open a file on a network drive...but I'm getting the following error message when it opens: "This file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or the server the document is stored on may not be responding." Now, the file itself has no rights restrictions and is not read only. It doesn't appear to be locked.
Now, there are other Excel files in the same directory which I could open fine; however, the Excel documents having the above problem all have a little black icon "appears to be a padlock" (image attached) at the bottom left hand side of the Excel file icon. I tried the following:
- Renaming - Converting to a different file format (didn't work, it won't let me) - Opening in notepad...etc doesn't work.
This file is dated back in 2004...do you think it's corrupt? Is there anything i can do to open or recover this?
The xls file I have written is used by multiple users at the same time. None of them can actually change the file - it opens data files and imports the data it needs then writes back any changes to the data to those files.
So the "read-only" option that my users see is of no importance to them - can this be bypassed somehow?
Very simple Excel 2007 spreadsheet. It consist of four columns with either numeric or alpha data in the. No formulas, no macros etc...
She emailed the spreadsheet to me and it works fine, I can enter data without problems. Whenever she tries to use it she just can't enter any data. She clicks in a cell and it highlights but she doesn't get a cursor and can't enter data. If she tries to click in the area underneath the toolbar to enter data she also does not get a cursor!! It used to work just fine for her but has suddenly stopped!
I can't open a file anymore. On opening an exclamation mark message appears telling me the file contains "Too many different cell formats". After clicking "Ok" Excel doesn't continue the opening proces. However I need the info in the file. how to retreive the info in the file?
I am using the below code to access a website with IE.
My next step (of many) is to Login to this website.
The login screen requires that I enter: User Name: Password:
How can I tell IE to enter my user name and Password?
Sub Macro2() ' 'Macro2 Macro ' Macro recorded 2/6/2007 by dsggodwin Public Sub Goto_ToyotaSupplier_Click() Dim EXP

I have recently written some programming in a spreadsheet (1) which, on opening, opens up another spreadheet(2), ammends this spreadsheet(2), and then closes it before the user can start using the original one(1). This is done to monitor the usage. The information added into the atomatically opened spreadsheet(2) includes date and time of opening and the users id as well as adding 1 to counter cells. Both .xls files are located on the same server and I dont want people to catch on to the monitoring and if they do I dont want them to then go into this file(2) and remove their information.
If I password protect this file(2) it then promts to enter a password when it runs at the startup of the initial spreadsheet(1) which is no good as it would defeat the purpose if the user knew the password. Is it possible to add a few lines into the code (see below) after it initiates the opening of the usage file?
Private Sub workbook_open() Application. ScreenUpdating = False Workbooks.Open Filename:= _ "S:Newman CommonCATEGORY MANAGEMENT - RangesEPoS Usage.xls" Dim Counter As Integer Counter = Cells(2, 7) Counter = Counter + 1 Cells(2, 7) = Counter Cells(Rows.Count, "BV").End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0) = Now Cells(Rows.Count, "BW").End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0) = Application.UserName ActiveWorkbook.Save ActiveWindow.Close Application.ScreenUpdating = True End Sub
When opening a new Excel file, it is asking me for a password to an old excel file that was password protected, which I have deleted from my computer. It is still asking for this password every time I open a new or existing file. When I hit cancel it lets me open the file.
I am trying to log on to an FTP site and post a file through Excel VB. I have managed to open a new Explorer window and direct it to the URL, but I don't know what to do next. After navigation to the URL a Pop-Up Window comes asking for UserName and Password and I don't know how to supply it and click submit. After I have completed that I will need to give the path of the file, click post, and close the window when it is done.
Here is what I got so far:
The commented out stuff is not working. I got it off a similar application that someone else in my company wrote that accomplishes a similar task.
Sub SConnect() Dim IE As InternetExplorer Dim IEURL As String Dim IEDoc As HTMLDocument Set IE = CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application") Set IE = New InternetExplorer IE.Visible = True IEURL = "https://something.com" .................
I recently formatted my laptop harddrive. I'm running windows XP Pro. I backed up all files to my 500GB WD external drive. All is fine except that I'm now unable to retrieve my excel files and no one has been able to really help. These spreadsheets are very important to me.
I took two weeks perfecting an Excel file and was writing them to disc just now to transport and use on other machines. I opened the file to add instructions and the files are now read only? Propteries show read only on the written files but not on the originals???
