Insert Text In Front Of Text OR Number - User Defined Format
Sep 24, 2008I can't seem to make user-defined format that puts a text in front of a number and/or a text.
Let's say I have A1: 13, A2: texttext A3: text7 and I want to format a lot of cells to "Ilike 13" / "Ilike texttext" / "Ilike text7"... ie add the same text in the front of the cell, no matter what the content is.
I did manage it seperately, with "texttext" @ for text and "texttext" # for numbers, but what's the general one?
Cell & Sheet Protection Basics
Mar 27, 2008I have 2 spreadsheets: in a Sheet1 I keep some values and in a Sheet2 5 names of users with special rights (range A1:A5). I want to have sure that anybody will change/delete that names without password. Only the user "Administrator" can do that(I check the name of the user using "Application.UserName"). Additional question: is it possible to still protect those cells if somebody turn off macros during opening file?

Worksheet Protection And User Rights
Aug 11, 2008I have a worksheet that has been designed to allow the user to enter data, in certain cells of the worksheet are formula to do automatic calculations as the user enters data. Here is my dilemia
a) I need the cells with the formula's to be locked so the user cannot delete or alter them.
b) In cases there may be a case where rows will have to be deleted or inserted, depending on the data entered.
c) The sheet needs to be protected to avoid the user from altering the sheet i.e. design etc.
I have found the problem is that i can lock out all the cells that i do not want the user to alter, and i can protect the worksheet and allow users to have certain edit right. But the problem i am facing is that when you have locked or protected cells on a wprksheet and you protect the sheet, then you can not delete or insert rows.
Is there a way that allows the sheet and formula to be locked, but also allow the user to delete or insert rows if they need.
Get Password For Protection In Macro From User
Feb 26, 2007My macros are set up with hard-coded passwords to protect and unprotect the sheets where they run.
But I need a way for the macros to refer to a user-provided password without having the user edit the macos themselves. The simplist approach (I suppose) would be to have a worksheet for this with a cell for the user to enter the password he/she wants. The macro protect/unprotect code would then look at the cell to get the password.
Conditional Format Formula: Allow The User To Blank Out The Cell Within The Year
Sep 26, 2009i have a set of conditional formatting set up for my workbook, the first is simply that if the result is false the cell is blank(white text,white background). the second if positive result,keeps the text black till 1 year has passed. the problem is the third, i.m trying to allow the user to blank out the cell within the year (white text,white background)if certain criteria are met. the idea is that they change the entry in cell D from T to TX or from M to MX and the formula pick this up, but i keep getting a error saying "your formula contains an error", the formula im using is, =if(or($D5="tx","mx")) then i set the format to (white text,white background). its probably really simple but i,ve been trying to solve this now for around 8 hours and i.m stuck

Mar 25, 2014I have two Sheets, first is Service Data, the second is Log Sheet. In the Service Data sheet I have a column of serial numbers in column A. I also have a column of serial numbers in the Log Sheet, column A.
I'm looking for a conditional format whereas I enter numbers into column A on the Log sheet it will auto highlight the cell if I duplicate a serial number from row A in the Service Data sheet. I would like it to highlight the Duplicated number on the Log sheet. I know new versions of excel make it easier to do this but unfortunately I have Excel 2003.
When User Enters Data Into One Cell - Selected Text Prints In Another Cell
Jun 20, 2014I am trying to do is to make it so that users can enter data into my form (I have managed to create the form and am working on trying to figure out how to get the info entered into the form to appear in my worksheet) and then the data will cause the information to, basically, compile sentences that I want to appear in one of three cells at the bottom of the worksheet.
Essentially, at this point in time, the end goal is to make 3 cells that contain text. Eventually, this text will be indexed elsewhere, but that is for the next person to deal with. I am creating a prototype that I want to present as a process improvement.
So, when the user selects 3 in cell D7 I want the text "Customer purchased 3 Widgets at $20 each." to print in cell 82B.
I also want the user to be able to copy and paste some customer records from another program directly into a cell in the form that will just print (unchanged) into one of these boxes, too.
Lastly, I want the user to be able to select checkboxes that will, when selected, print a comment that will print in two of these boxes. For example, if the user selects yes for cell D26 then I want the text "Customer not eligible for free shipping" to appear in both cells C82 and D82.

Nov 27, 2012When I protect the entire sheet, I can click in a cell and see what's in it, when I protect just a portion of the sheet, I can only click in the unprotected cells. Is this an Excel thing, or am I doing something wrong when protecting? I would like to see what the formula is in the cell when protected, but I can't click on the cell, what's the deal?

Currently, the user selects a name from a drop down list, it unhides a workbook of the same name, copies from that workbook, and places the copied information in an area of the sheet with the drop down list. I would like the protection settings (in this case, selectivly unlocked cells to allow users to easily tab through and not make changes to data that should not be changed) to be copied with this information. Is this possible?

Sep 14, 2009I have a workbook with about 70 sheets, some are specific for data entry, others for data review.
I share the workbook with my data entry team, and lock the review sheets so that no one can modify the data on them or change the formating. End users review the final protected sheets for the information that is appropriate to them.
I need to track the status of the protection of each sheet, such that I can edit the sheets as needed, then protect / lock them once I am done.
Is there a way to indicate, in a cell within the indvidual sheets, the status of protection for that sheet?
For example, if the sheet is protected, the Cell would read "LOCKED" and if the sheet is not protected, the cell would read "EDIT".
Sheet Protection Causes Macro Error
Jun 29, 2007I've been using the attached spreadsheet to record daily sales for a while now, however, we've recently intorduced a new product and so I've had to add a new column to record daily sales of it.
On the spreadsheet is a 'New Week' button. Pressing this deletes all entries and moves the week numbers on by 1, so giving me a blank template each week. However, after the addition of the new column I'm now getting a bug error message. I've adjusted the code to take account of the new column but I'm still getting a bug error. When I press 'debug' it's highlighting something I have changed so I'm a little confused why I'm getting the bug error. Would someone have a look for me. I only seem to get the bug when there is protection on the sheet, I need protection. The password is PHUKET38

I protect the sheet with a password before I send out the file to a 3rd party. However, it seems that all a user has to do is select the sheet cells, copy and paste onto another sheet or file. The protection is nonexistant and the user is able to unhide the columns.
Am I missing something?
Is there a way to "really" protect a sheet so that a user is unable to unhide confidiential columns? Preferably a method without VBA code.
Auto-Refresh AutoFilter With Sheet Protection On
Nov 23, 2008I found one of your old VBA entries that allowed me to automatically refresh an autofilter function, and it works great.... with protection off.
As soon as I protect the sheet so users can't enter data into the pages showing the autofiltered data, the autofilter kicks off.
i have set the protection to allow autofiltering, so it's something that is preventing the macro (for automatically updating/refreshing the autofilter).
I'd love to either fix the macro to "autorefresh autofilter" with protection on, or just enter another code that will disable all functionality on the worksheet. (workbook is set up with multiple sheets, first sheet is for all data entry, subsequent sheets are filtered data-trying to make them viewable only).

The code that I have written uses an Add-in that pulls data from a database. As part of that retrieval, the other add-in protects the sheet without a password. Would that be causing my error?
