Get Username & Text From User To Use With Date & Time In Cell Comment
Jun 22, 2008
i have the following code to insert comments into cells, however if the user cancels the input box (i.e. doesn't insert any text), a comment is still added with their details and the comment 'FALSE'. Is there anyway to stop comments being added if the user cancels the input?
Sub Insert_Comment()
Dim iReply As Integer
Dim cl As Range
Dim sComment As String
Dim sText As String
Dim UserNameWindows As String
I need a mar that I want to attach to a button that would:Add a new comment with the date/time added to the username [format XYZ 22/10/09 14:48] and then I type the comment text, and/or Append a new comment to the existing comment, in the same format as for 1.
I am looking to have a macro which will automatically add the username and date to a cell, when the cell above changes (or in this case =x). I have a bit of code from a previous project, but I have changed Target.Row to Target.Column and it is not behaving as I require:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) If Not Intersect(Range("B2:BZ2"), Target) Is Nothing Then Range("C" & Target.Column).Value = Format(Date, "dd-mmm") & " " & Format(Time, "hh:mm") & " by " & (Application.UserName) End If End Sub
See the attachment for the example. What I need is whenever row 3 ="x" I need the corresponding cell in row "d" to update with the latest date, time and username. Please not the macro is currently not active on the sheet as i've added the ' character.
I am using Excel 2013. Anyway, the first issue is that I need to pull a date and a time period from text. So, for example, if I see something like Sunday Prime Time 7/6/14 8:37PM, I would want to pull ONLY the "7/6/14 8:37PM" out of it. Each text box could potentially be different, so it might not always be in the same format as "Sunday Prime Time 7/6/14 8:37PM" it might only show just the date and/or the time without all the extra text i.e. 7/6/14 8:37PM. Some of the cells will have text, others might only have just the time or even just the date and the time. The only thing that I am worrying about in each cell is extracting just the date and time. If this is too much to ask of excel, I would be ok with extracting ONLY the time - 8:37PM and not the date, but I would much rather be able to get both the time and date.
THEN, onto part two of my question. After I would pull the dates and times, I need to compare them with each other. So, when I have the same date with two separate times on that date, I need to write a formula to show if those times on that date are less than 30 minutes apart. So, if I have 6 times on 7/6/14, I need to know if any of them are less than 30 minutes apart.
I would need to have the formula say something like "Problem" if the times on 7/6/14 would be 5:30PM, 5:48PM, 7:00PM, 8:00PM, 8:15PM, and 9:00Pm for example. I would like to see the word "Problem" since 5:30PM and 5:48Pm is only 18 minutes apart, and "Problem" after 8:15PM since that is only 15 minutes past the 8:00PM which is obviously under 30 minutes. The times that are more than 30 minutes apart such as 7:00PM and 9:00PM for example are more than 30 minutes apart from any of the other times that were extracted.
Cell B4 is selected by user and then runs the macro. The macro then looks UP (A3, A2, A1 etc) cell by cell until it finds the first cell that has a valid date in it and if that date is same as the date that the macro is being run pastes "This Text" into the comments section (Not replacing everything in the comments but simply adding to it.)
Column A
2/20/2009 (empty cell) Dave Jonathan Steve
2/21/2009 James Sally Tyler (empty cell) John Betty
Is it possible to insert text as a comment on another sheet based on a date?
I have Sheet 1, that has 3 columns, Name, Date, Reason
Sheet 2 is a monthly calendar with the dates in E5:AH5 and the names from D6:D10.
What I am trying to do, is when they enter their name, date and reason on sheet 1, I want the reason to to be inserted on sheet 2 as a comment in the cell that matches the date and the name.
I have a number of comment (all column D) that have lots of data in each one.
The data will appear like this (each new entry (new entry denoted by a date))
01-May 12:58:05 Liam 02-May 16:18:27 Josh 07-May 11:51:26 Bob 02-May 01:13:34 Terry
What i want to know is, can i change the colour of the text in the comment, if its todays date. So in this case 07-May 11:51:26 Bob goes red (its the 7th here for me).
I have a spreadsheet where for traceability purposes, I get some vba to enter elsewhere on the sheet, the date and time that data is entered into a cell. Is it possible to also somehow capture the name of the person entering the data. We are on a network, so the pc does "know" which user is logged in.
I am trying to get a single cell to display the following:
Last Updated: 3/18/2008 15:08 (GMT+2)
Entering =NOW() in a cell displays the date and time as required.
But entering ="Last Updated: "&NOW()&" (GMT+2)" displays the date and time as a serial number. Formatting the cell to Date does not change the serial number to date and time format.
The only way I have found to get the desired result is to use =NOW() in another cell (F13), format that cell to general to get the date/time serial number, then use ="Last Updated: "&TEXT(F13,"m/d/yyyy h:mm ")&" (GMT+2)" in the required destination cell.
As I said this works, but it strikes me as an inefficient method. Is there a formula I can enter or formatting I can apply to get the desired result without using an addition cell?
The result needs to be in a single cell. Splitting text and date/time into 3 adjacent cells will not work with my worksheet setup.
I have a spread sheet were the area is getting very limited. I need to insert a small icon and when the mouse goes over (like it does in a form tool tip) will show the value of a cell (text value) located in another sheet in same workbook, or I was thinking inset a comment next to the icon and link the comments of the comments text to cell with the text value.

I've look the properties of this to objects and can figure it out.
I have a workbook that I'm using to tracking staffing patterns within a mental health agency. When the workbook opens the user is asked to pick a date range and an office location. I've placed code into the userform that pre-fills the "start date" with today's date and the "end date" 7 days from today's date. I would like the user to be able to enter a unique date range should they wish but I have yet to figure out the coding to accomplish my goal.
The code below adds the date to D:D once the user enters data in B:B and then adds the time when the user selects from a dropdown in C:C. When they have finished the task they enter anything into F:F and then it enters the end time in G:G.
This works well except for one flaw and one modification that I can't get to work. I have found that people retrospectively change the activity in C:C which causes the start time to change. I would like to avoid this hapenning if possible by putting some code in to stop this. Also I would like the times to be related to the push of a button on the sheet and therefore need different code.
Code: Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) If Target.Cells.Count > 1 Then Exit Sub If Not Intersect(Target, Range("B2:B900")) Is Nothing Then With Target(1, 3) .Value = Date
I import data from a program that exports dates and times as text. I have been successful using "text to columns" to separate the time from the date and then using =text(A1,"00:00")+0 to get the time to show as serial time but I'd love to be able to do the whole date/time string in one step. In cell A1 there is data that is general format and is in this format:
01/01/13 00001
No matter how you try to format it, it is not a date or time. For this project I need the serial number for the date/time. Any formula that will format it as date/time and then allow it to show as a serial date/time?
I have 04/02/08 12:00:01 AM (mm/dd/yy hh:mm:ss AM/PM) in text format in a cell. I need to convert this to date/time custom format as given above so that I can make comparisons with NOW() output.
if choose a cell then the code works fine, but when i choose a selection of cells (ex. A1 A2A3 A4) then the code fail to excute in this line: Invalid proceduer call or argument error
.AddComment "hmk :" & Chr(10) & " value was " & ActiveCell.Value
and then fail to excute in this line: typr mismatch error
Selection.Value = (Selection.Value) * r
now here, does have to be loop to solve
here is the full code
Sub test() Dim r As Integer ActiveCell.ClearComments
I am trying to develop a macro that allows the user to copy and paste a set of date and time values, move them to the next sheet and increase the month by 1. I need help trying to find out how can I create a counter for the program to keep running without the need to reprogram the macros again.
My goal on the form is simply that when you click the check-box, it will highlight the cell green and place the date in the cell comment, and then clear the comment and color when unchecked.
I have been successful with the exception that I can only place text in the comment, but not a date stamp or even a reference to a hidden cell. I accomplished a date stamp command on a button with "Sheets("Sheet1").Range("Q5").Value = Date" but am unable to do this in a comment.
Below is what I have currently. I know it is not clean to look at, but that is how I found it and didn't want to create more variables for troubleshooting
Private Sub CheckBox1_Change() Sheets("Sheet1").Range("Q4").ClearComments Sheets("Sheet1").Range("Q4").Interior.Color = RGB(255, 255, 255)
[Code]....
I came across a couple results that seemed promising, but the code seemed to have a different syntax and I couldn't make it work with my VBA newbie skill level (started yesterday).
What is the code i need to use to assign a macro to a command button which inserts the current date and time in the selected cell regardless of where that cell is?
This time stamp macro is great but I would also like to record the person who said 'Y' in the same cell as the date stamp '12:00p.m. MWatson'. The persons name should come from the Username.
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) If Target.Cells.Count > 1 Then Exit Sub If Not Intersect(Target, Range([P13], Cells(Rows.Count, "p"))) Is Nothing Then 'change your range on this line" With ActiveSheet If Target.Value = "Y" Then Target.Offset(0, 1).Value = Now
Is there any way of creating a log that logs the last user that saved the workbook including the date and time. I would like the log to be a sheet hidden in the workbook. Not many people will be saving the workbook.
I need a nudge in the right direction with how to amend the below code so that it : 1: cycles though all cells in a workbook, and sees whether the text reference of the cell contains a picture filename (i.e. searches for .png or .jpg in the cell contents) 3: if (1) is correct, it retrieves the picture from "C:/Users/jeff/Documents/Standards/" and pastes it as a cell comment background in the cell to the right (and overwrites any comment backgrounds that might already exist there)
The code below does something a bit different: it looks in a defined range, then adds a comment with a background picture retrieved based on the text in the cell to the left.
I'm sure this is a pretty basic change, but my VBA skills aren't up to it...I've only just started reading though Walkenbach's Power Programming! I'm using Excel 2007
Sub InsertComment() 'www.contextures.comxlcomments03.html Dim rngList As Range Dim c As Range Dim cmt As Comment Dim strPic As String
On Error Resume Next
Set rngList = Range("A1:A5") strPic = "C:/Users/jeff/Documents/Standards/" On Error Resume Next For Each c In rngList With c.Offset(0, 1)...................
is it possible to allow a user to insert an image into a comment box through a user form. For example-
User enters Part # into form - then in a separate form field - uploads an image from his/her hard drive. On submit the part number is populated into A1(or wherever) and comment box is also generated for A1 which contains said image.
