To Calculate That Loss Or Gain As A Percentage Of Their Original Weight
May 1, 2009
I run a slimming club and would like to use Excel to keep records of members weights, losses, gains etc. What I would like to do is enter their starting weight into a cell then each week when they are weighed enter a loss or gain in an adjacent cell. I would then like Excel to calculate that loss or gain as a percentage of their original weight. Is this possible?
I was wanting to put it on a spreadsheet. Probably a pretty easy deal, but I don't know the formula to use. this is what I want: Joes start weight 200 minus week ones weight, then the original 200 minus week 2's weight and so on till week 8. I want to keep a running total of weight lost in pounds as well as percentage.
I have a excel 2000 spreadsheet that has beginning and ending dates for certain services. I'm trying to tease out what our customer base has been doing over time in aggregate- i.e. how many customers subscribing to X in a given month/year.
The only way I've been able to do this in the past has been generating pivot charts of start dates (with 'start mo' and 'start year' busted out) as a positive count (+1), stop dates (with 'stop mo' and 'stop year' busted out) with a negative count (-1), then copying these tables into yet another page where I mash them together to get the 'flow' of our customer base over time and generating charts from there. Needless to say, it seems a whole lot more clunky than it should be, and I'm having a hard time searching the innarwebs for similar examples (even though I'm sure it's been done before). Example:
And I also 2 small Pictures ie picture1 and picture 2 which i insert in same excel sheet. I wanted to lookup C1 cell , if A1 is greater than B1 then Picture1 or vice versa.
I am looking for a simple loss/gain formula for my students. They are trying to find the loss/gain difference between an initial value, and the current value. They are using a monetary value, not date/time.
How do I track my total weight loss in excel? Here is an example of what I am trying to do.
8/1/2008 228lbs 8/2/2008 225lbs 8/3/2008 223lbs
Total 5lbs
I would like use a formula that would subtract my absolute weight loss total day by day in August. Basically, I want the total "cell" to equate to my total weight loss in August. For Example after 8/3/08 the "total cell" should equate to 5 lbs. What formula do I use to do this?
I cut alphabet letters out of MDF. I need to calculate the total weight of any letter. I have a program that will give me the area of any shape. In the picture below I have started with the letter “A”. B7 is the over all area. D7 is the small triangle. G7 is the total area minus the triangle D7. H7 is the thickness and I7 is the total volume.
The weight of my MDF I have set at is 850kg cubic meter. That’s set in A3.
I need the total weight of the letter in J7 to be in grams. The idea is, I put in the areas and set the thickness and it gives me the total weight.
I have a trading system spreadsheet that I am at a loss as to how to calculate the profit and loss.
I was unable to attach a sample of the spreadsheet. I hope this explanation works. If not, I could email it.
Where: Market position is either 1 or -1 Entry price is the price where the position is reversed.
For example: H3=1 and I3=100.56, then H4=-1 and I4=100.88, then H5=1 and I5=100.53
I need to calculate the profit as follows: I4 - I3 (because market position of 1 expects the price to go up) and then, I4 - I5 (because market position of -1 expects the price to go down)
I want to calculate this as a running total to the bottom of the column.
This is the formula I was working with, but it doesn't work:
I had a member make the MACRO in the attached spreadsheet some time ago, when i run it on the spreadsheet a runtime mismatch error occurs. I cant find the mismatch.
I am trying to calculate players ranking based on their weight categories and attempts total, e.g. Category (50kg, 69kg etc..) Rank should be calculated automatically the highest total value of cat. 50kg is 1st second highest is 2nd etc. However, if tow players or more within the same Category have scored same point ranking will be calculated based on Body Weight less comes first and if both have similar weight calculation will be based on Start # first player comes first etc..
Table: Start # Name Body Weight Team Category Total Point Rank
I'm trying to design a Profit and Loss template that calculates off an accounting software data dump. I will attempt to explain the problem here but I have included a summary in the linked workbook which would be easier.

I have two problems:
The Formula: Basically, I need to calculate every cell in the Profit and Loss statement based on the below criteria: The Profit and Loss item accounts, e.g. Gross Income has 6 accounts. There is a reference table for these - so incorporate index match/vlookup? User selected data from 4 combo boxes.
I am thinking a SUMIFS formula (using the combo box values) and somehow combining a vlookup to pull the items accounts. I'm starting to think that VBA is the best method?
Tweaking: The attached workbook is a small example. The full data dump contains 60,000 rows.
1, How do I calculate the original value of something if it has dropped say 9.3% Ex Stock value 5.56 down 7.4%. How do I calculate its original value.
2, I have copied some numerical data from a website, on one computer when I drop that data into an excel sheet it falls into separate cells allowing me to manipulate it, on another computer I drop it into an excel spreadsheet and all the data goes into one cell not allowing me to manipulate it.
I was wondering is there a setting on one excel spreadsheet that I am inadvertantly not using on the other.
calculating the percentage of a percentage and writing the formula for excel.
There are 295 people in a room, of the 295, 75 or 25% are mothers. (I know how to calculate 25% - 75/295 = 25.42) of the 75 mothers 35 have 3 children, 32 have 2 children and 10 have 1 child.
35 is what percent of 25% 32 is what percent of 25% 10 is what percent of 25%
The problem is when I highlight a row with some color the original color of the row is gone, so I tried this code, and again, it's removing the original format and color for the row This is the code from McGimpsey & Associates : Excel : Highlight row with background colors
Code: PrivateSub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Excel.Range) Const cnNUMCOLS AsLong=256 Const cnHIGHLIGHTCOLOR AsLong=36'default lt. yellow Static rOld As Range Static nColorIndices(1To cnNUMCOLS)AsLong Dim i AsLong IfNot rOld IsNothingThen'Restore color indices
[code].....
How can I retain the range's historical color so that when I deselect the row it reverts properly?
I have attached a file with both a sample section of data on the first sheet and the outcome I would like on the second sheet... I would do it all manually but there are over 200,000 rows in the actual file.
The macro needs to calculate the percentage of sale for each reference number within each part number and move down to the next part number and do the same until it reaches the bottom.
code needed to be able to automatically calculate the percentage needed from one year to the next. I simply need it to automatically create a third column each time the copy old data button is pressed, and I need the column to have the percent increase ((current year - past year)/current year). Hopefully you can understand what I am aiming for. I have the current code below, and I will attach a compressed and stripped version of my workbook.
In the attched sheet, I am wanting to draw data from the worksheet "On-Off" Array $AI$14:$AJ$91 into column AA, while at the same time choosing the closest match to the time. I have managed to get the closest matching time into column AC.
What I am having trouble with is now calculating the number of staff on that break time (column Z) against the number of staff rostered on at that stage "On-Off" (column AJ). I thought it would be a simple division and format as a percentage, however something in it using the extract from the "On-Off" sheet is stopping me, and I cannot figure it out.
I need a correct formula to calculate percentage...mine is not correct
Cell J18 will hold the formula.Range C18:I18 will have values.
C18 will have a value for today,D18 will get a value tomorrow,E18 will get a value 1 day after tomorrow etc..etc..
J18 formula - =sum(C18:I18)/7
If I only has a value in J18 then it will divide that single number by 7.......can a formula only divide by entries in cells....if I have 1 entry then it divides by 1,if I have 4 entries then it divides by 4 etc..etc until thee is 7 entries.

I have this example above which i want to know what is the total % change from Jan to Jun. In the total column, the result i got is 19% using formula =1*(1+B6)*(1+C6)*(1+D6)*(1+E6)*(1+F6)*(1+G6)-1.
Is there any other more simplified or better formula that can be used actually?
What I have is four columns with data. First column name second column number third column name fourth a number. Trying to get the total of the numbers for the names. So the first and third columns have names in them and they can be in each column or just once in either. I need to get a total column with all the unique names and then their corresponding number (added together if they are in both columns) to display the name and total. The names could be duplicated in each column as we (hopefully) have a lot of the same people coming week in week out.
What it is being used for is a two week and four week revolving attendance. I have a daily sheet one that I am using data filter unique values and then a countif to show me their attendance for the week. Putting it into a totals page sheet with week 1 week 2 etc.
So looking for a way to get all the unique names and their corrorsponding cell value added together to show the persons attendance for two weeks and then the month.
If I have a calculated price in cell A and I would like to enter a price manualy in cell B , how would I get excel to display in another cell what perecentage A is of B
price A would would be for example a purchase price , Price B would be a suggested retail price entered manualy and i would want cell C to show me what percentage increase it is of price A
In my spreadsheet (testing.xls) I have a chart to mark the quality of a phone call based on a list of 8elements being judged. I have a likert scale for the quality result for each element, say for example 5 for highest, 3 for average, 1 for the poor, 0 for very poor and NA for an element which is not counted.
At the bottom of my table I have a cell where it would work out the % based on the outcome of the result from the different cells being ticked, what would i need to do to have excel work this out for me? Please bare in mind that if there is for example 1 element out of the 8 elements marked as NA the result would be divided 7 instead of 8.
I am trying to create a simple formula to extract cost from a total that includes both cost and and a percentage for maintanance. Assume $100, 10% of which is maintenance the remainder is cost. If I just subtract 10% from $100 I get $90, however 10% of $90 is $9 which equals $99.
