Writing Vlookup Into VBA Code

Aug 15, 2007

I need help writing the VLookup function into a VBA macro.

I currnetly have a macro that generates a list of companies in column D on Sheet1. There could be a different number of rows populated every time the macro runs.

I also have a list of all the possible companies next to their e-mail address on Sheet2 (company in column A, corresponding e-mail in column B).

I know Vlookup can search sheet2 and populate the correct e-mail address on sheet1, but I want a VBA solution in which it will automatically see how many rows of companites I have, perform Vlookup for each company, and place the corresponding emails in sheet1, column E.

Writing Long Lines Of Code

Aug 29, 2007

I've written a piece of code that is so long, I have to use the scroll bar to see the whole of it, which isn't very user friendly

if there's a way of splitting long lines of code over say 2 or 3 lines, so I can read the whole thing without having to use the scroll bar? I've noticed some people use _ at the end of the code and then continue writing on the next line, but when I do this, I get an error message saying

"Compile Error : Expected : line number or label or statement or end of statement"

VBA Code Quicker Than Just Writing Out The Calculation In VBA

Writing Code To Copy / Insert And Paste To Worksheet

Oct 11, 2013

writing a code where i can copy a worksheet (Sheet1), insert a new worksheet at the END (as the last worksheet), and paste to that new worksheet (which will have a different name each time a new one is added). I am using the code below, but it adds a worksheet after Sheet1 instead of at the end, and it also adds another weird worksheet that says "Dim Worksheet" in one cell, and "Set newsheet = Sheets.Add(After:=Sheets(Worksheets.Count), Count:=1, Type:=xlWorksheet)" in another. This is not in the VBA window, it is just text in a cell in another inserted worksheet. I only want one worksheet added at the end that I can paste too (knowing that the inserted sheets will always have new names).

Code:
Sub CreatePercentageSheet()
ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("Sheet1").Copy _
After:=ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("Sheet1")
ActiveWorkbook.Sheets.Add After:=Worksheets(Worksheets.Count)
ActiveSheet.Paste
End Sub

Does anyone know the corespondant macro code for the formula =R2-VLOOKUP(M2;C:H;6;FALSE) and =Q2-VLOOKUP(M2;C:H;5;FALSE) ? The results are displayed in the same row in column X for the first formula, and in column W for the second formula. I would like the corespondant macro to apply to the entire sheet. And there's another catch...the data that the formulas apply is in fact a Web Query...and I need that the macro to recalculate every time the Web Query refreshes.

Vlookup And Offset In VBA Code

Jan 7, 2014

I have a worksheet where I want to have one column of state abbreviations (entered by the user), and a second column of state-specific information that will be entered from a lookup table--named "StatePrefixes". Here is my code so far:

VB:
Public Sub cmdSelectState_Click()
Dim St As String
St = ActiveCell.Value
ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1).Value = Application.WorksheetFunction.VLookup(St, StatesPrefixes, 2, False)
End Sub

As is the code is generating a run-time error "Unable to get the Vlookup property of the WorksheetFunction class. If I remove the reference to the WorksheetFunction class I then receive a value of "#N/A" in my worksheet.

Creating A VLOOKUP Using VBA Code?

Feb 4, 2014

I have a workbook containing 2 sheets called ('EPM Extract' and 'Sheet B'). Column 'B' of the 'EPM Extract' sheet contains a list of Project IDs (numerical), and 'Sheet B' also contains a list of Project IDs (also in column B), plus all of the additional data I require.

Now, from the required cell within the 'EPM Extract' sheet, the normal Excel the code would read as =vlookup(B3,'Sheet B'!B5:W32,11,False), upon which I would drag down the code from that cell to all other required cells below. However, these are my issues:

* How do I even begin to write the code within VB, as I know that variables and arrays have to be set

* I need to apply the vlookup across 12 columns as I am bringing back 12 different results (i.e. I need to copy results from column counts 11 to 22 from 'Sheet B' to columns in 'EPM Extract' sheet.

*The amount of data in the sheets will vary each month, so I need to know how to apply the code only to the amount of rows in the 'EPM Extract' sheet, so some kind of R1C1xl.UP will need to be defined also.

convert this formula to VBA.

The are four formulas in there:

1. lookup formula.

2. remove the 1st number (exmaple: remove 0 in 0123 to become 123)

3. add a number (example: add 0 to 123 to become 0123)

4. convert a number into text format.

Vlookup Find A Particular Code In One Sheet

Jul 20, 2009

I am using the Vlookup function to find a particular code in one sheet then give me the cost data that is associated with that code and put it into a similar cell in another sheet. It will work fine if I use (for example) A2 to E39 as my table_array. This would be fine if I only had 38 rows of data to look for the code on. However I have thousands of rows of data that need to be checked. Therefore when I change the table array to anything greater than E40, the vlookup will not work and it will only return a value of zero instead of the actual cost data. This is very weird and does not make sense that anything is wrong.

The only thing I can think of is that the vlookup function has a limit on the number of rows that it can look for data in. However, I did not think that it had a limit at all.

VBA Code To Automatically Update Using A Vlookup

Feb 13, 2009

I'm trying to write a VBA code to automatically update using a vlookup but I seem to be running into trouble, partically with the lookup value part of my vlookup. I basically have a range of dates in column B and want the values to appear in column C. Yes, I know I just type the forumla in column C and drag it down, but I really need to do it in VBA, as I want this to update when additional dates are added.

This is what I have thus far. The code keeps looping at i = i +1 and doesn't stop unless interuppted.

Sub update()
Dim i As Integer, L() As Range, s As Integer, V As Double
Sheets(1).Activate
s = Range("D:D").Select
On Error Resume Next
While s ""
i = i + 1
ReDim Preserve L(i To 1)
L(i) = s
Wend
If i = 0 Then
MsgBox "No dates found"
End If
Exit Sub

For i = 1 To UBound(L)
V = WorksheetFunction.VLookup(s, Range("Inputs"), 2, 0)
Next i
End Sub

VLOOKUP Function In Macro Code

Mar 18, 2008

Is it possible to Call the inbuilt Excel Functions (like VLOOKUP) in Macros. we have to pouplate cells with formula which uses VLOOKUP. one way was to update each cell with required Formula like: [code] Range("A1").value = " = 6*F7*(1-Vlookup(lookupvalue........))"[code] but this was stupid as no of cell to be populated was large and variable and moreover it will return formulae to cells rather than fixed value. What we tried was to defile an table_array as Array(x y) and then use this array to return required VLOOKUP value. However I was thinking is there any way to call function like VLOOKUP in Macros so that we can return a value to cell rather than formula.

Cleaning Up VLOOKUP Formula With Possible Matrix Code

Jan 15, 2009

I am wondering if there is an easier way to look up values in a matrix. I use the VLOOKUP with the vertical values as the lookup_value, then another lookup for the col_index_number to find the horizontal values. The example in the attached file is just a sample of my spreadsheet. I need to apply this to a roughly 10*10 matrix (which changes every now and then) and apply this matrix to over 1,200 rows. Is there an easy way to returne theses values or is the way I am currently doing it the best option.
