Add Nested ISNA & VLOOKUP With Wildcard Via Macro Code

Aug 23, 2008

I have the following vlookup working exactly as I want it to in excel: =IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(LEFT(C2,10)& "*", NAME,2,FALSE)),"",(VLOOKUP(LEFT(C2,10)& "*",NAME,2,FALSE))) -NAME is a defined section on another worksheet

The problem I have is when I come to use this within a vba macro I'm writing the wildcard section automatically gets spaces added so it goes from "*" to " * " and excel doesn't like it! The code I'm using to write it into the cell is simply:

ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = _
"=IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(LEFT(c2,10)& " * ",NAME,2,FALSE)),"",(VLOOKUP(LEFT(c2,10)& " * ",NAME,2,FALSE)))"

how to stop the spaces being added?

Isna (vlookup)

I use the following formula. It works except it returns "0" if the field is blank. What alternate formula can I use that will return blank instead of zero if the field is blank?

=IF(B3="","",IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(B3,Customers!$A$2:$L$1502,5,FALSE)),IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(VALUE(B3),Customers!$A$2:$L$1502,5,FALSE)),"",VLOOKUP(VALUE(B3),Customers!$A$2:$L$1502,5,FALSE)),VLOOKUP(B3,Customers!$A$2:$L$1502,5,FALSE)))

ISNA And Vlookup (get Data From Another Tab)

Oct 20, 2008

I'm trying to get data from another tab, but only if it is greater than or less than a certain number. Here's what I'm using but doesn't seem to work.

=IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(A13, 'Aim MTD'!A2:T63, 5, FALSE)),">=22.00%",VLOOKUP(A13, 'Aim MTD'!A2:T63, 5, FALSE))

A13 is targeting the name of the person
Aim MTD is the sheet tab the info is in

And I want to select the information only if the cell value is 22% or greater. If the cell value is less than 22%, I don't want it to read or to read zero. I'm not an excel expert (yet), but hope to be one day!

Trying To Do VLOOKUP ISNA Formula - Error TOO MANY ARGUMENTS

I added in the VLOOKUP(B12,VALVESFILTERS!A12:E2000,3,FALSE) - when I used it without that it worked. But I have 3 sheets I need the the VLOOKUP to look over and this formula that I copied off another thread only had 2 tabs.

Putting Formula In The Sentence Part Of IF / ISNA / VLOOKUP String

May 21, 2013

I have been using an IF,ISNA,VLOOKUP formula as follows which I am sure you are all familiar with :

=IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(K7,Orig!A7:B35,COLUMNS(B7:B35)+1,0)),"",VLOOKUP(K7,Orig!A7:B35,COLUMNS(B7:B35)+1,0))

This formula works correctly, displaying the lookup value for K7. My query is between the"" I can place text to display when K7 is blank and this works correctly too. However I would like to place a formula in here. The formula is VLOOKUP(I7,Orig!A7:B35,COLUMNS(B7:B35)+1,0 i.e. the lookup value is now I7 and not K7 when K7 is blank.

I have tried the following and variations based on what I know but they return errors.

=IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(K7,Orig!A7:B35,COLUMNS(B7:B35)+1,0)),(""& VLOOKUP(K7,Orig!A7:B35,COLUMNS(B7:B35)+1,0),VLOOKUP(K7,Orig!A7:B35,COLUMNS(B7:B35)+1,0))

Any better way of using I7 as the lookup value when K7 is blank.

Using The Function ISNA In A Macro

Nov 4, 2008

It then places all the data on a new sheet. My problem is that some of the formula that the macro places on the new sheet come back with the result #N/A - which is fine, as they are the result of a lookup.

What I want to try and do, is at the end of the macro, get it to delete the row if the activecell is showing as #N/A

I've tried to write a small bit of code for it...

If Statement With Vlookup And Wildcard

Jan 7, 2014

I need to lookup data from four different columns to match a value in another sheet. The lookup value has to start with "4" in order for it to be the correct match. I've tried the following formula for just two columns:

=IF(VLOOKUP($C2,'Sheet 1'!$D$2:$H$10000,5,FALSE)="4*",VLOOKUP($C2,'Sheet 1'!$D$2:$H$10000,5,FALSE),IF(VLOOKUP($C2,'Sheet 2'!$E$2:$G$10000,3,FALSE)="4*", VLOOKUP($C2,'Sheet 2'!$E$2:$G$10000,3,FALSE),"False"))

The problem I have is that the wildcard function isn't working in my If statement (apparentley that's how Excel was designed). The first vlookup returns the value "40042565" but Excel doesn't show it matching the criteria with the wildcard ("4*").

Any way to lookup the value in C2, search through multiple columns, and return the value that starts with "4"?

VLookup Of Concatenate With Wildcard

Jan 31, 2014

I would like to Vlookup an association of data in a matrix where not all information is available. e.g:

Vlookup of following data (concatenate):

A1&B1&C1&D1
A2&B2&C2&D2
A3&B3&C3&D3

but in the mapping I would have a wild card (*) in certain columns (not always the same column)

The concatenate would be for exemple:

A1&*&C1&D1
A2&B2&*&D2
*&B3&C3&*

I know it works on the other way around (Vlookup of concatenate with wilrdcards) but I can not have wildcards in my source data.

Vlookup With Wildcard Search

Cell A1 = xyz3
Cell B1 = 5
Cell C1 = xyz3-hgfe-56f

I need to do a vlookup on C1 in range A1:B1 that will return B1 if C1 contains the string in A1. I've tried using the TRUE variable in the vlookup formula which does not require an exact match. This works for about 80% of my data but is not 100% accurate. Of course I've got a long list of data ... not just the 3 cells.

Get The Name Of The File In A Vlookup VBA Using Wildcard Characters?

May 17, 2014

get the name of the File in a Vlookup VBA using wildcard characters. I have to do a VLOOKUP from a specific file which is stored in the same folder as the file in which I need to get this VLOOKUP done, however the name can change anytime keep a word common only for this specific file...

Ex:
I have a File called "Mapping as on 8th May" from where i need to lookup some information for my file and I intend to do this using VLOOKUP in VBA in a Module but since the name can change to anything such as"Mapping as on 16th May" I cant use it in the VBA code, so is there a way around this where If I have this file stored in the same folder then I keep the word "Mapping" specific and unique for all other files in the same folder that the search can pull this file name to be further used in my lookup..

how to use the wildcards in VLOOKUP lookup range for the file name as the columns are going to remain the same...

Can Use Wildcard For R1C1 (lookup Value) In VLookup

Aug 21, 2013

know if I can use a wildcard on R1C1 notation for my "lookup value" in my Vlookup, so that the Vlookup searches for a not exact match, but on the whole contents of the cell, not just the first several letters? I am using VBA, and the vlookup is in each cell of a for next loop, so I cannot use an actual cell reference which is where I've usually seen, and used wildcards. I've tried changing the Vlookup to have the lookup value be "Cells(n,2)" instead of "RC[-2]" to no avail. I need to make the vlookup evaluate all the words in cell "RC[-2]" prior to returning the value I specified, because otherwise it returns the wrong value even though I sorted my lookup table Column A A to Z.

Vlookup Across Sheets, Nested Vlookup Possibly?

Jun 9, 2009

I’m trying to develop a workbook which holds monthly data on loan information. It tracks the interest and balance on the loan. I want the first page to have a table displaying the interest payments for every individual tab. When I was brainstorming the idea, I was considering a sort of Vlookup function to find the tab the account is on and then a further function, possibly another vlookup which connects the month to that month’s interest payment. Can anyone help me figure this out?

The attached spreadsheet is obviously simplified, there are well over 30 tabs. But I would like it to, ideally, search the account number column, search the workbook for that account number, and then when on that page use the month at the top of the first page and retrieve the interest payment and put it back in the cell. It’d also be great if the formula can be transferred between workbooks. I’m not sure if that makes sense; basically if I were to copy that worksheet into the next months book, I would like that the formula read those tabs instead of becoming obsolete due to references from the first workbook.

Can Wildcard Search Asterisk Be Tuned Off When Using VBA Code?

I am trying to run a routine in VBA that will Search for a Part-No. that normally contains asterisks. It is giving me bad positive Search results due to the coding looking at the (*) asterisk's as a wildcard character.

The following Part-No.'s are located in cells (C11:C16):

6C3Z*16138*AACP
AE5Z*16138*B
AE5Z*17E811*CF
AE5Z*17E811*F
AE5Z*17E810*F

Part-No. to be Searched for:
AE5Z*17E811*F

When the below code is run, the incorrect Part-No. 'AE5Z*17E811*CF' is found in cell (C14) rather than the correct Part-No. found in Cell (C15).

Nested IF/OR With VLOOKUP

Sep 24, 2009

I'm trying to build this formula and I'm only half way through it and it already isn't working.
Column D - can be 1, 2, 3, or 4
Column E - can be any number

If column D is 1 or 3, then the VLOOKUP should look up column E and point to the answer in column 4 on another worksheet (Companies in this case). If column D is 2 or 5, then the VLOOKUP should look up column E and point to the answer in column 5 on another worksheet (Companies in this case). This is what I have so far, just trying to get it to recognize if it is a 1 or 2:

=IF(OR(D2=1,VLOOKUP(E2,Companies!A:G,4)),IF(D2=2,VLOOKUP(E2,Companies!A:G,5)))

What is making this not work? I'm getting a false. But before I added the OR, it worked for the D2=1.

VLOOKUP Function In Macro Code

Mar 18, 2008

Is it possible to Call the inbuilt Excel Functions (like VLOOKUP) in Macros. we have to pouplate cells with formula which uses VLOOKUP. one way was to update each cell with required Formula like: [code] Range("A1").value = " = 6*F7*(1-Vlookup(lookupvalue........))"[code] but this was stupid as no of cell to be populated was large and variable and moreover it will return formulae to cells rather than fixed value. What we tried was to defile an table_array as Array(x y) and then use this array to return required VLOOKUP value. However I was thinking is there any way to call function like VLOOKUP in Macros so that we can return a value to cell rather than formula.

Need A Nested IF Formula Or Vlookup

Customer name in cell 1 of all other columns running across horizontally, eg C1, D1, E1.... (C1:GF1). There are 186 customers. (A formula needs to start at C3 and dragged to GF3)

Worksheet 2: Raw data showing customers in column A and items in column B, There are 3,753 rows. Customer in column A are duplicated as the same customer may order a number of items so for eg

Excel 2010 :: VBA Code That Handles Several Specific Parameters Or Wildcard Passed To Access

I would like to develop a user-friendly Excel 2010 spreadsheet that would allow the user to enter from 1 to 10 (i just picked this number at random just to have an upper limit) employee numbers in cells A1-A10 and "click" on the VBA Code button that would invoke an Access Query and in the process return all the applicable data gathered from the query back into the Excel Spreadsheet. Believe it or not, I can do all this mentioned so far. BUT what i cant do is my second option for the user which is allow them to pull ALL of the employees back into the spreadsheet using the same query.

In summary, using Excel as a frontend dashboard, I know how to get a specific number of employees' information from a query and I know how to get all employees' information from a query but I dont know how to get either/or. In other words, I could do this with two queries and two "VBA-Code" buttons but I would like to do it with one query and one button.
