Automate Multiple Iterations Of Solver

Multiple Solver Constraints In Solver

Sep 10, 2006

I have a cell, D5, which is the sum of three other cells, A5 B5 and C5. (all currently empty). Cells A1 through C4 are filled with various numbers.

What I've been trying to do is use solver to say: Make D5 equal 200, do it by manipulating only A5 B5 and C5, and make it subject to the constraint that A5 must equal a value selected from A1:A4, and B5 must equal a value from B1:B4, and C5 ...etc. I have deliberately set it up so that there is only one solution.

I was doing fine until trying to create the constraints. How can I make a constraint that says "this cell" must equal "one of the following cells"? And if I can't do that, is there an alternate method of achieving the same result?

Macro To Run Multiple Solver Solutions

Sep 28, 2008

A single macro that I can assign to a button and, when clicked, will compute 3 solver solutions instantly without the solver boxes popping up.

My problems
I am having trouble with the "ValueOf:=" part. In my code below, I am trying to tell it to go to either cell b14, b15, or b16, select that value which will be a number, and use that number as the "ValueOf". The ValueOf is the number I am ultimately trying to achieve using Solver. Range("B##").select doesn't work but I need to somehow select that number in that cell and tell solver to use that number when computing.

If I manually type a number for the "ValueOf:="0.952975095" it will compute it correctly but manually typing this number in each time defeats the purpose of creating this macro. The whole purpose of this macro is so I don't have to manually type in numbers.

Also, recording a macro with multiple solver steps hasn't worked. When the macro is ran with multiple Solver solutions, it only computes one solution... the last one. I think the last data is stored in the Solver application but I'm not sure how to erase it, and start a new solver setup. Anyways, you all would know better than I would.

What's important?
It needs to compute in a certain order. In this order: Cells D14, then D15, Finally D16. That's probably not a big deal though.

My code

Sub Macro1()
'
' Macro1 Macro
'

SolverOk SetCell:="$C$14", MaxMinVal:=3, ValueOf:=Range("B14").Select, ByChange:= _
"$D$14"
SolverSolve UserFinish:=True

SOLVERreset

Excel 2010 :: Using Solver / What-if Analysis For Multiple Objectives

Nov 10, 2013

I'm using Excel 2010 for Mac.

Here's my problem: I need to keep two values subject to two upper limits (i.e: value 1 < x, value 2 < y).

These two values are equations that are dependant on 3 variables. The relationship between these variables are not linear (i.e.: can't just plot a graph and mark where the lines cross).

Is there any computational method using Excel I can use that will give me the LOWEST value for the three variables in order for my target values to be under their upper limits?

Automation Error After Some Iterations?

Jun 11, 2014

Creating a spreadsheet to inventory cups each day. When a macro was invoked do the following:

-unprotect the worksheet

-cut/paste the completed sheet below the current

-bring in the values form the previous day's inventory

-set protection on new spreadsheet to lock the cells

-blank out old values

-reprotect the worksheet

Pretty straightforward and seems to work fine for a few iterations, then crashes with "Run-time error '-2147417848 (80010108)': Automation error. The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.".

As FYI, this code was mostly generated using a record macro session, so no variables involved.

Here is a screenshot of the spreadsheet as it sits now:

Here is the code:

VBA Slows Down And Breaks After Many Iterations

Feb 18, 2010

I have a macro running in Word (and referencing Excel) that is meant to iterate 15,000 times. But, after 100 times, the process slows and stalls.

I have put in a few "DoEvents" and "ActiveDocument.UndoClear" in Word, and I set "Application.EnableEvents = False" in Excel. These settings got me up to 100 iterations (previously the program would stop after even fewer )

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I'm not sure what information you'd need to be informed about the problem, and I don't want to tell you too much! Do please ask if I'm not being clear.

Circular Reference & Code Iterations

Feb 25, 2008

I'm looking for a macro that changes Iterations from 100 to 10. I have a circular reference that I can't seem to completely remove, so my endusers complain about the pop-up warning. I know I need to resolve the circular ref issue, but in the meantime I would like to create a button that makes it easy for an enduser to change the Iterations with one click. A secondary question is, "Am I sacrificing significant accuracy by limiting Iterations from 100 to 10? I'm dealing with $'s, so the nearest penny is good enough.

The next query I want to take parameters from say cell E20 and F20 and post results in cell A20.
I need to run this several hundred times and am limited by the webite URL to 2 parameters.

I can't work out how to automaticaly change the URL via a macro so it adapts it with the changing parameters in my worksheet.

Automate Multiple Email Report.

Jun 7, 2009

Each week our department receives a single Excel report that contains ~15,000 rows of data.

Column A of this report is populated with a store number.

Every time the report is received, we go through a manual process in which we have to break the report down into individual store numbers and then email the data to the branch managers for their particular store only (~40 emails).

I have attached two spreadsheets (1) Invoice Report and (2) Email List.

To clarify:

Send data for branch 124 to mike@xyz-company.com (column header + row 2 only)
Send data for branch 126 to susan@xyz-company.com (column header + rows 3-9 only)
Skip branch 140 as there is no data
Send data for branch 159 to tim@xyz-company.com and d.ortiz@xyz-company.com (column header + row 10 only)

And so on.

I want to do is to (1) create a report for each branch in the list (2) email the report to the specified recipients and (3) delete the created report.

Automate Import Of Multiple Text Files

May 29, 2008

I am new to VBA coding. My boss recently handing me a task where I have to take data which is stored in thousands of fwd files and import it into spread sheets. This can be read with notepad as plain text. This data has about 35 lines of heading info i need to skip. The data i need transfered is stored in columns and each data row is tagged at the beginning with the letter D and comment lines begin with the letter C. The heading info has no such tags. The data is space delimited. Further, some of the columns of data need to be omitted in the spreadsheet. Each data.fwd file gets its own spreadsheet meaning each time i import data i start with a fresh template.xls to import into. The format of the spreadsheet is the same as the format the data is presented in the text file with ten columns, except the text has twelve and two of them need to be omitted.

One more thing, I need to be able to push a button and query the file to import.

I am using the solver to minimize a cartain cell (variance) by making two cells equal through (expected return) by varying 10 cells( weights of assets), but I have to repeat this for 500+ times (for different expected returns).

Someone told me that I could best use some sort of loop through VBA. But I don't have a clue how that works.

Macro To Automate Multiple "IF Formula"

Aug 17, 2007

I have a worksheet of 5 columns. What I would like to do is subtotal an amount in column d, where the item code in column b are the same. Lets say there are 5 rows with code 8150 in column b, I want to add all these rows up BUT ALSO add up any rows which are 8150+1 (x+1) i.e. 8151. All transactions where the code in column B, x + (x+1) = 0. All true results should then be cut and pasted into a new worksheet (one worksheet for all transactions that are true).

e.g.

8150 1233
8150 12
8150 644
8151 -2084
8151 -10
8151 -205

Total of above amounts is zero, therefore cut and paste to new spreadsheet.

Now that I think about it, its actually quite complicated.

Run Solver With VBA

Feb 14, 2008

I am trying to drive Solver in Excel 2000 with a Visual Basic (version given as 9969) macro. SolverReset is observed, and SolverAdd puts the constraints in. But the SolverOK statement does nothing, so the SetCell and the ByChange windows stay empty.

SolverSolve is trying to do something, because the spreadsheet cell that should receive the return code from Solver gets an error value #VALUE! (The macro then stops, unable to process this entry.)

Solver is checked off ok in the References list in V.Basic.

The same macro, same spreadsheet, in the same Excel file, works fine on the other computer in my office with what I am told is a more recent version of Excel; i.e. this doesn't look like a coding error.

Solver Root

Nov 17, 2008

I created a trendline and associated equation for some data plotted against Time on the x-axis displayed in MM/DD/YY format. The date for the data ranges from 3/27/06 thru 11/10/08.

The trendline equation is…

F(x)=-6E-13x^5+1E-07x^4-.0087*x^3+329.1*x^2-6E+06*x+5E+10

The data actually crosses the y=0 line around 11/5/07, which is the data root

When I use Goal Seek, I got a zero root solution of 28154.98. When I convert this to the date format, it converts to a date in 1981 which is not correct. I tried a range of initial guesses but they all converge to the same number.

Excercise:
Eve Blue is the manager of Southland Furniture store and she is planning a New Years Day sale. The store has only 75 square feet of space available to display and stock this merchandise. During the sale each folding table costs $5, retails for $11 and takes up two square feet of space. Each chair costs $4, retails for $9 and takes up one square foot of space. You must order at least one chair and one table and, of course, they must be whole units. The maximum amount allocated for purchasing the tables and chairs for the sale is $280. Eve cannot sell more than 40 chairs but the demand for tables is unlimited. Eve asked you to help her determine how many tables and chairs she should purchase in order to make the most profit.
