Im setting up a fixed hedging simulation using excel and want to use solver to obtain a maximum profit. I have taken historical stock prices and then predicted future prices using the random walk process. To create the hedge I am using european calls and puts in both long and short positions. The simulation has been set up so that the options are being brought/sold when the historical data ends and then sold/payed when the predicted data finishes.
I am letting solver change the values of the strike of each of the options and also the amount purchased/sold for each of the options too! My constraints are that all the strike prices have to be >= 0, all the amounts of each particular option has to be >= 0 and that profit has to be >= 0. It is worth noting that as well as the values already mentioned, d1 and d2 values are also being calculated on the sheet which are then used to calculate the value of the options being used (using Black-Scholes model), this value is then given a realistic spread value and then 3% is added on as the brokers fee. All of the values mentioned are being taken into consideration when caluclating profit.
I have a cell, D5, which is the sum of three other cells, A5 B5 and C5. (all currently empty). Cells A1 through C4 are filled with various numbers.
What I've been trying to do is use solver to say: Make D5 equal 200, do it by manipulating only A5 B5 and C5, and make it subject to the constraint that A5 must equal a value selected from A1:A4, and B5 must equal a value from B1:B4, and C5 ...etc. I have deliberately set it up so that there is only one solution.
I was doing fine until trying to create the constraints. How can I make a constraint that says "this cell" must equal "one of the following cells"? And if I can't do that, is there an alternate method of achieving the same result?
I'm using Excel 2010 for Mac.
Here's my problem: I need to keep two values subject to two upper limits (i.e: value 1 < x, value 2 < y).
These two values are equations that are dependant on 3 variables. The relationship between these variables are not linear (i.e.: can't just plot a graph and mark where the lines cross).
Is there any computational method using Excel I can use that will give me the LOWEST value for the three variables in order for my target values to be under their upper limits?
I get this error : Compile error : Sub or Function not defined. I found out that this might be caused by the solver not being referenced. But, this is fixed now but I still get the same error message.
I'm using Excel 2007 - Windows.
Here is the code :
Sub Macro1()
Dim i As Integer
Dim j As Integer
j = 4
For i = 1 To 4000
If ActiveSheet.Cell(i, 12).Value = 1 Then
ActiveSheet.Cell(j, 15).Value = ActiveSheet.Cell(i, 2)
[code].....
I have to use use the solver to calculate something (a mean-variance framework).
I am using the solver to minimize a cartain cell (variance) by making two cells equal through (expected return) by varying 10 cells( weights of assets), but I have to repeat this for 500+ times (for different expected returns).
Someone told me that I could best use some sort of loop through VBA. But I don't have a clue how that works.
I was hoping that my formula would give me the count number based on the Maximum time (latest time) and the Name field...My result is a 0 instead of 62 (the correct answer).
=SUM((Download!$H$2:$H$10=A4)*(Download!$D$2:$D$10=MAX(IF(Download!$H$2:$H$10=$A4,Download!$D$2:$D$1 0)))*Download!$I$2:$I$10)
Would a Index/Match/MAX function be more efficient?
Look in Column E and find the MAX value. Once you find the MAX value, (let's say E27) display the date that's in C27. I bet this is really easy but I've been screwing around with it for over a half hour and can't get the correct result.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two columns of data. The first column is the 'type' and the second column is the 'value'. I need to find the maximum 'value' for each individual 'type'
The 'types' are not necessarily next to each other and the data cannot be sorted to do so.
Example:
type value
A 15
B 6
A 21
C 7
B 13
I need to be able to say the MAX for 'A' is 21, the MAX for 'B' is 13 and the MAX for 'C' is 7.
I was wondering with regards to the max of 32,767 characters in a cell.
1) is it still the same number of characters in excel 2010?
2) is that including spaces or not?
In excel 2007 i have three sheets.
In sheet1 : Cell : "D3" : I have find out & show maximum date with two criteria (i.e. code & series) from all sheets.
Also in cell : "E3 : I have find out maximum date with two criteria from particular one sheet only.
I have mentioned comments in attach file.
In sheet name 1112 & 1213 : I have a lot of data approx 40000.
Column A : Invoice no
Column B : Invoice date
Column C : Code
Column D : oano
Column E : Name
Column F : city
Column G : distric
Column H : Series

1) What's the maximum limit of IF statements in a formula for MS Excel 2010?
2) I have 8 nested IF statements, but I am having trouble with the False part of the argument. I was able to get the False part to work for the 4th argument (because I simply put a comma and closed it's respective colored parenthesis) but the following 3 I can't seem to get and the following message pops when I hit enter "The formula you typed contains an error."
For the False part of the remaining 3 nested statement which is at the end of the formula I just type:
IF($E$2="Q3"........)))IF($E$2="Q2".....)))IF($E$2="Q1")))
And close it's respective colored IF statement argument. I tried putting a comma at the end of each False part for the arguments but it pops with the message "You've entered too many arguments for this function."
i have product group, product name and the statistics. I'll use an example of students with score. I have these set of data:
A B C D
1 Student Name Score Sum
2 Student1 Anna 48 80=Sumif(A:A,A2,C:C)
3 Student1 Anna 32 80
4 Student2 Tom 30 80
5 Student2 Tom 30 80
6 Student2 Tom 20 80
7 Student3 June 55 60
8 Student3 June 1 60
9 Student3 June 4 60
Now we have 2 students with tied highest scores with 80 Scores. Naturally i want the rank to be as follow: Top1 Anna since she has the highest score "48", and Top2 Tom, and Top3 June.
The problem is, the score data can vary and Top3 can probably have the highest score and he still didnt make the highest score collectively. And there will also going to be other situations as well because im working on a very large data set, and not these 3 students.
the max score is tied, and since im making another column with sum scores, the data is going to be redundant, and hopefully theres a formula to ignore this.
I want to use solver program. But when solver "changes cells" i want it to trigger my pivot tables in the workbook. So i added the code to my worksheet:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
ThisWorkbook.RefreshAll
End Sub
So when a change occurs, all my pivot tables will get refreshed and my data will change. Is solver able to trigger this event while solving an optimization problem?

I have over 800+ pages of chart that only takes up 6 columns and around like 9000+ rows.
I wanted to print this chart on paper and need hardcopies. However, the chart in its current setup prints only on the left half of the page leaving the right half empty.
How do i make use of the full space properly? Each chart has a "page number" on it so I want the chart to print continuously from one half of the page onto the next half and then the second page, third, etc.
Here is a visual demonstration of how things currently are and how i'd like to get them to be:
As you can see, This is the first of many charts and its numbered Page 9 and next one is page 10.
Pic1
How this looks when i try to print, it's only on the left side. right is all blank
Pic2
How i want it to look like upon printing
Pic3
As you can see in the last picture, once page 14 chart has no space it automatically continues chart on right side of page and then moves on to print rest.

I am trying to drive Solver in Excel 2000 with a Visual Basic (version given as 9969) macro. SolverReset is observed, and SolverAdd puts the constraints in. But the SolverOK statement does nothing, so the SetCell and the ByChange windows stay empty.
SolverSolve is trying to do something, because the spreadsheet cell that should receive the return code from Solver gets an error value #VALUE! (The macro then stops, unable to process this entry.)
Solver is checked off ok in the References list in V.Basic.
The same macro, same spreadsheet, in the same Excel file, works fine on the other computer in my office with what I am told is a more recent version of Excel; i.e. this doesn't look like a coding error.
I wanted to see if I could use the solver to Solve Sudoku puzzles. I created the attached workbook. First it colors the numbers that are put in manually, which would be the starting puzzle. I have a generic one put in now. Then it finds which cells that are allowed to change. Then it is supposed to solve. It doesn't work. Run the Sheet1.SolvePuzzle Macro to see it not work. Is solver just not up to the task, or am I missing something?

Each pound of sewage costs $0.004 and has a fertilizer rating of unit. To provide good quality fertilizer, each bag should contain at least 35 pounds of compost, not more than 40 pounds of sewage, and have total fertilizer rating of at least 100 units. I created a trendline and associated equation for some data plotted against Time on the x-axis displayed in MM/DD/YY format. The date for the data ranges from 3/27/06 thru 11/10/08.
The trendline equation is
F(x)=-6E-13x^5+1E-07x^4-.0087*x^3+329.1*x^2-6E+06*x+5E+10
The data actually crosses the y=0 line around 11/5/07, which is the data root
When I use Goal Seek, I got a zero root solution of 28154.98. When I convert this to the date format, it converts to a date in 1981 which is not correct. I tried a range of initial guesses but they all converge to the same number.
I am using solver to solve an optimisation problem I have. I need to apply a new solver to every populated row of my sheet. My solver code is as follows:
Sub solverloop()
SolverOk SetCell:="$Z$2", MaxMinVal:=3, ValueOf:="0", ByChange:="$N$2:$O$2"
SolverSolve
End Sub
The code above applies the solver to row 2. My sheet has roughly 500 populated rows. I need to write a macro to loop solver over each row, accept the solution provided by solver, then move to the next row. i would also like to close the loop automatically when the last populated row is reached.
I'm trying to run a macro which will allow me to run solver and keep the solution.. I have managed to get the macro to work. However, does anyone knows how I can ensure that solver's solution can be automatically saved without prompting the user whether to save the solution?

I would like the XL add-in 'Solver' to automatically find a value 'M' in the equation attached, based on 'R' being 30%.
I also would like to be able to manually enter 'M' based if I would like 'R' to be different from 30%.
How can I program this in VBA, and have the equation automatically done in the first instance simply by clicking on cell 'R'.
