CONCATENATE Cells Formated As Fractions
Apr 26, 2006
I want to concatenate several cells, some of which are formated as fractions,
and have it display those numbers as a fraction. When I perform the
function, it displays the cell in its decimal form.
Example:
=CONCATENATE(E2," ( ",F2," in. "," ",G2," ",H2," in. ", I2," ",J2," in."," )
"," color #")
Where: F2, H2 and J2 are fractions.
Result: 12" Stretcher ( 11.625 in. x 23.625 in. x 3.625 in. ) color #

How do you limit a cell to only display fractions in sixteenths, eighths, quarters, and halves?
I'll give an example.....we use excel to cut list doors in our cabinet shop. On a three panel door it will spit out a fraction of 1/12" (or 5/12, or 7/12 etc), but this looks a lot like 1/2" and the guys frequently cut them the wrong size.
Is there any way to limit a cell so it will only display in these fractions 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 etc? and I don't mean by just saying to format in sixteenths, because if I do that then it displays 12/16" when I want it to say 3/4".
I basically want it to round to the nearest sixteenth, but I want it to display to the closest sixteenth, eighth, quarter, half etc.

I have a spreadsheet to calculate piping offsets, center to center.
The formula in B:1 is simple. Take the length in cell A:1 and multiply
it by the square root of 2.
I then increment the length by 1/8 of an inch through cell A:180 and those
results are place in B:2 thru B:180.
The results are display to the nearest 1/16 of an inch. But if the actual
dimension is eight and one half inch, it is displayed as 8 8/16. For aesthetic
reason i wish to display the reducible fractions reduced. So that 8 8/16
is displayed as 8 1/2 inch.
I understand that i may go to each cell and individually format it accordingly
as halves
as quarters
as eights
but was wondering if there is an easier method.

I am trying to set up a workbook to record times for our swimming club. This will involve recording the swimmer's time as minutes, seconds, tenths and hundredths. I would then want to be able to compare the new time to the swimmer's previous personal best and calculate the difference.

I am trying to do is have an additional row, or rows entered after after the last available row is filled. I've written a macro that searches for the last data set in a column, and will then copy the row above and insert, then copy the formating and formulas down, but I can only make this work by having the user click on a control button.
I would like to make this macro work automatically when data is enterted into the last row in the quote form. Below is what my current macro looks like:
Sub AddLine()
With ActiveSheet
. Unprotect Password:="*********"
ActiveSheet. Range("m17").End(xlDown).Select
ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select
Selection.EntireRow.Insert
ActiveCell.FillDown
ActiveCell.Offset(-1, 0).Select
Selection.EntireRow.Select
Selection.Copy
ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select
Selection.EntireRow.Select
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteFormats, Operation:=xlNone, _
SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select
.Protect Password:="*********"
End With
End Sub

i need to use a cell which has the value 00:30:00 (formated as hh:mm:ss) displayed as 0.020833333 (formated as general)
what i need to do is use the 0.020833333 for a calculation.
now the problem is that i have 00:30:00 as input.
that means the user is inserting 00:30:00 in a cell. i need to convert this to 0.020833333 and use it in a formula
the conversion itself is easy. (just change formating of the cell)
i tried using it like this:
A1: 00:30:00
somenumber<(TEXT($A$1;"##.#########"))
but that gives me strange numbers
and what i need is this:
somenumber<0.020833333)

For making quotes at work, I'm looking to have the quotes named automatically. The format of naming our quotes is the date (in this format) then quote name: yymmddNAME (Example for today: 090720EXCEL)
I'm using the =NOW() function for the date (Cell A1), then doing a custom format to turn the format into yymmdd then in a different cell I'm putting in the "NAME" (Cell A2) and what I want to do is combine the 2 cells (Cell A3) by doing: =A1 & A2
but when i do this, the format of the date gets messed up.

I have the foollowing equation in a cell:
=NETWORKDAYS(A2,A12)+G12
My answer is 1081:23:42.
Is there a way to have it show the number of days, hours, minutes and seconds? So it will say 45:1:23:42? (45 days, 1 hour, etc...) Or something along these lines?

I'm having a rather difficult time getting this one.
I am concatenating (is that a verb?) a bunch of cells to create an item code.
The combination of two different cells need to be able to give different values so I can dump the appropriate value into the CONCATENATE formula.
A picture is worth a thousand..

On tab 2 of a spreadsheet, I am trying to concatenate several cells on tab one! Everything comes together in the cell on tab 2, however it does not hold the date format. It turns it into general text so just random numbers that do not even tie to the date. Any way to lock the date format for this idea?

I have some numbers that I've imported from the internet. Some of them contain fractions (i.e. 7 1/2) where the 1/2 is a single fraction character. Is there a function I can use to automatically turn these fraction characters into numbers when they're imported to excel via web query?

I'm trying to create a model for woodworking where I can enter fractional wood sizes and have Excel create panel sizes and board lengths for cabinetry. I can easily get the inputs formatted in fractions, but then I'd like to have a concatenation formula that joins two fractions and displays a panel size as a fraction. However, when I try to do this, the concatenation formula changes the fractions to decimals.
Example: cell A1 is 3/4" formatted as fraction. Cell A2 is 1 1/2" formatted as fraction. Let's say I want a to concatenate so that A3 reads
3/4 x 1 1/2
But when I use concatenate (A1," x ",A2) the answer in A3 reads
.75 x 1.5

I know how to do the "normal" type of concatenation (concatenating?), but I was wondering if there was a way to concatenate a range of cells.
If my first three cells look like this:
A1 = Adam
A2 = Bob
A3 = Chris
I'd like cell A4 to say "AdamBobChris". I'm not worried about punctuation at this point. I thought I could just do =concatenante(A1:A3), but that's not working.

I have data in cells A1:A50. I want to combine all of them into cell A51. I know that I can achieve that by using =concatenate(A1,A2,A3,A4,........,A50) or =A1&A2&A3&A4&......&A50 but it would be very tiring to click on each cell. Just imagine if the data in cells A1:A1000? function that work like say =combine(A1:A50).

I cant quite get this, I have 4 cells in one row (a selection and can be any row), I need to string the values together and add some simple text.
Example:
Assume row 1 and columns A, B, C, D.
496 | 6d7 | Minor | Ø.375 +/-.010
What I need this to read as one long string:
#496, 6d7, Minor, Ø.375 +/-.010
Adding the text in Red.
Column A may be a single digit or up to 10 digits in length. Once the string is configured I want to copy it and manually paste in another application. If the string is placed any where else in the worksheet for formatting, it can be deleted after the copy/paste or macro end.

As long as 04:Q4 are ALL non-blank cells, the formula works. However, if ANY of the cells are blank, it displays the green rectangle in N4, but it doesn't offer the Trace option.

I have a macro to concatenate multiple cells but unfortunately it is not giving the result,
It has to concatenate below mentioned cells and put the result in column N
Sub ConcatColumns()
Do While ActiveCell "" 'Loops until the active cell is blank.
'The "&" must have a space on both sides or it will be
'treated as a variable type of long integer.
Range("N1").Select
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = _
"=CONCATENATE(RC[-10],RC[-9],RC[-8],RC[-7],RC[-6],RC[-5],RC[-1])& ActiveCell.Offset(0, 0)"
ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select
Loop

I have a spreadsheet of inventory items that I am trying to prepare to import into Quickbooks. There are items in this sheet that are subitems of a parent item. The subitems have the same ID number (col. C in the attached sample), different quantities and different descriptions than the parent.
I need to to concatenate the Item Lookup Code (col. D in example) and the description, separated by a colon. Then I need to copy everything else in the parent record, except quantity and description, into the child records. There are close to 20,000 items in this sheet.

I am attempting to concatentate several cells (10 to be exact). I only want to include cells that are not blank in the output. I searched the topics and found a similar problem. I attempted to modify that solution to fit my needs but I obviously do not quite understand exactly how it worked. I have attached a sample. The expected results are that if in row 1
columns a through j have any value they will then be concatenated or joined in some other fashiion seperated by a comma. I only want to include non blank values. I have placed the code that I attemted to use in this post.
=IF( COUNTBLANK(GL41:GU44)=0,GL41&", "&GM41&", "&GN41&", "&GO41&", "&GP41&", "&GQ41&", "&GR41&", "&GS41&", ">41&", "&GU41,IF(ISBLANK(GU41),""&GL41,GL41&", "&GU41))
Some of these cells are merged as indicated in the range of countblank().

I receive multiple worksheets containing transaction data with multiple numbers of row and columns. The data columns contain varying types of information like: price, quantity, location1, location2, loading dock, transaction date, buy/sell, purchaser, seller, currency unit, etc.
I have a need to concatenate into a single cell in a blank column, data from a number of cells in each row -- sometimes two cells, sometimes more. In some instances, I'd like to concatenate data for location1 and location2 with a delimiter like a semicolon-and-a-space to create a cell with: "location1; location2" Or in another instance, I'd like to concatenate multiple cells in a row, like: "location1; price; quantity; transaction date", etc.
I'm looking to create a macro that, with the cursor in a blank cell in a blank row, would open an input box, ask a user to select with the cursor the cells in the row to concatenate and then concatenate them into the blank cell in the row.
Ideally, the macro would populate the entire blank column with the concatenated data for the group of selected cells (from the same columns as in the row where the cells to be concatenated were selected) for each row where there is data. It is also possible that some cells in some rows of the selected columns would contain no data. In that case, I'd be looking to return just the delimiter, like: "location1; ; quantity; transaction date"
Right now, with no macro, I do it by hand like this:
To concatenate into cell I6, the contents of cells A6, B6, G6 and H6, I do a "=CONCATENATE(A6,"; ",B6,"; ",G6,"; ",H6)" in blank cell I6, but I'm looking for a way to do it fast in a macro that would fill in all of Column I.
