I have lots of files I need to read every day. I need to read them in as fixed width - EX: column A is 1-8, column B is 9-12, column C is 13-22, etc. Is there a way to create a VBA macro or something so that I don't have to point and click to draw lines every day when I read in these files?
View 9 RepliesI am having a problem importing fixed width text files with VBA. I created a user form for a dept to import a number of reports we get as text files into Excel. I imported each line into 1 cell (Column A) in Excel and then used mid functions to split out the columns. Everything works fine on my PC. However, when I use other PCs to import the same files (either off the same shared drive or the PC hard drive) the columns are not splitting in the correct places. Does anybody know what could cause this. Since the columns are splitting based off a fixed number of characters, I'm assuming Excel is somehow distorting a character count while opening the text file. I did notice that if I try to import text files saved on one of our shared drives, they do not import correctly on my PC either. However, if I copy and save the same text file to any of the other shared drives or my PC, it imports with no problems.

The section of the code I want to modify is below dealing with importing selective text. The original function returned a "False" if the line contained a keyword specified in the Array function. I have reworked it so that it shows a "True" if the line contains a keyword specified in the Array function.
My only problem is that it only does it when the keyword appears in the beginning of the line, as it uses the "Left" operator in looking at line. How do I configure the function so that it returns a "True" if the keywords appears anywhere in the line?
I have this data below in an excel worksheet. I'm using the ws.Cells(x,x).Value command to read values from the cells an print them out to a .prn fixed width file. However when it writes it to the .prn file my numeric fields don't have are not 0.00 but 0. And also the numeric fields are left justified I would like them right justified in the .prn file.

For a sheet that many non-expert users will use on different systems I need a macro that let's them save, print and send the results of their work. So I made a macro that makes a copy of only 1 sheet of the workbook and saves it with a given name to a given location. The problem is that I want a location prompt to ask the user where they want the file saved, while giving/suggesting them a fixed filename. A lot of different users will make and use their sheets so I need a certain naming policy to manage all the files. (date, location, etc)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have attempted to alter this example to simply check if the cells are not blank by replacing the "X" with "<>", but I get errors in the SMALL function--it looks like the IF statement is just returning an array with all of the values set to FALSE, and none of the values in the array call out a location of the next filled cell.
How could you alter your fixed XLSX file to check for non-blank cells instead of "X" specifically?

Actually i've downloaded Tracking report of my SPO and this report is on 4-5 csv files (1 file per week). I have to gather data from these 4 files into one Worksheet. I have to do this with command button on my worksheet; with Open file dialogue box (i want to locate the csv files).

I have a workbook with many spreadsheet named Sheet1, Sheet2 and so on. Each sheet is filled completely upto 65536 rows. This data is being picked up from a CSV file. In this file there are sites with each site there is a assciated set of data. What happens is the data that extracts data does not differntiate between sites and when it reaches to the end of worksheet it splits the data into next sheet. So I am trying to create a macro to check each spreadsheet starting with the last sheet in the work book for example last sheet in the workbook is seven it should go to sheet6 and if there is a blank row after row 64000 it should cut all the rows and move them to sheet7. Then it should goto sheet5 and do the same and keep on doing it until it reaches sheet1.

I am very new to VBA but would like to set up a button so that I can import data from closed files in different departmental directories. I have recorded a macro and got it to work if the file is open but I can't seem to get it to work if the file is closed.
I would like to have a macro that will allow me to browse to the desired file and import the data into columns. I have the macro working to the point of allowing me to browse, select the file, and pasting the contents into the active sheet.
The things that I need help with are:

2. Getting the file parsed into columns. The format of the .DAT file is static and only has 4 columns. Currently when it imports, the entire record (row) all of the data is in the same column. I would like it separated into individual columns if possible.
At work I have a folder full of .bas files containing useful UDF's.
At the moment I am the only person in my team that makes use of these files as importing a .bas file is beyond the rest of the team (i.e. then know it contains code so they get scared).
What I'd like to do is create a workbook where they can select one of the files (each file contains a single UDF), maybe see what it does (I put an explanation in the Comments section of the properties for each file) and then have it automatically imported into the workbook of their choice so they can make use of these functions.
My task is to make an excelfile that import data from other excelfiles. These data should then be summarized. There's not always same files. I should be able to add more files.

I've made the mistake of building an online survey without regard for the number of questions and how that might relate to import. (Excel gives the error, "File Not Completely Loaded.") As a result, I have a .csv raw data file which exceeds the number of columns in Excel's upper limit.
