Can Hide Function Be Made Accessible In Locked Worksheet
Jan 5, 2014
I have a protected worksheet that is shared between 2 departments. Is there a way of making the hide/unhide function available without unprotecting the worksheet.
Macro would be the most obvious way but believe you can not share a workbook when a macro is incorporated.

I've got a couple of user-defined functions that I coded in via one workbook (wkb A), but would like these functions to be accessible to any workbook (wkb B...Z). How is this done so that when I start a new blank wkb I can use these user-defined functions there as well?

The intent of the code below is to run the marco HideCol when a change is made in cell C10. If I actually change the value in C10 it works. However, I have C10 linked to another worksheet (=anotherpage!A13). When the value changes, my macro is not executing.
Here is the code:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim changed As Range
Set changed = Range("C10")
If Not Intersect(Target, changed) Is Nothing Then
HideCol
End If
End Sub

I've developed a workbook that is designed to allow users to produce a list of aspects (one per worksheet) and edit them as the aspect changes. However, i would very much like to create a 'log' of changes. For example, everytime a cell is changed the cell reference, worksheet reference and date are added to a list on a hidden worksheet.

I am fairly new to Macros and such so please bare with me. I work with workbooks that have 30-50 worksheets in them. They are fairly complex and we send them out to our agents to use and need them protected so they cant change anything. I found how I can protect all the worksheets with one macro. There is one more part that I would like to add to this macro that I cant seem to find an answer for on these forums (Yes I have spent the better part of the day looking).
When you manually go to protect a page. It asks you to type in your password for the first time and below that there are a bunch of boxes that can be checked or unchecked. I need the first box "Select locked cells" to be unchecked. It is checked by default. Is there something I can add to my macro to uncheck this box?
This is the topic I used to create my Protect/Unprotect macro.

I recently launched a model that uses filtering on protected worksheets. The model was developed in Excel 2000, and everything works perfectly for the users who are also on 2000, but my Excel 2003 users get an error on opening the workbook.
The error asks for the password to unlock the sheet and is difficult to clear. Users have to hit Cancel 8 times to clear the error, at which point, the model appears to function perfectly. (There are 12 worksheets in the model, 2 with filters, all locked and password protected.)
The follwoing code is in the 'ThisWorkbook' module:
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
With Worksheets("Initiatives")
.Protect DrawingObjects:=True, contents:=True, userInterfaceOnly:=True
.EnableAutoFilter = True
.Protect contents:=True, userInterfaceOnly:=True
End With
Because the error occurs when first opening the model but not at other times, I'm thinking that there's something in the Workbook_Open procedure that is causing the error.

i want to improve some of my application by testing if a folder is accessible to the user... i've got some code to check if a file is already is use which is useful... but before that we have folders in work that are only accessible to certain users for reporting and if the person doesn't have access to it within a macro it Errors out... i'd like some kind of macro to display a message box like windows does... Directory is not accessible, Access Violation... it has to check directly for the Accessible part and not just an error...

Is there a way to protect the conditional formatting of accessible cells in a protected sheet.
Detail: I have a protected excel sheet. However some of the cells are made accessible so others (my secretary) can fill them up. The accessible cells have conditional formatting which become nonfunctional during pasting from other sources if "special paste" is not used.

I have a user defined function in one VBA module that I'd like to call from another module, so I would normaly scope it as "Public".
However, as I don't want it to be available to Excel as a worksheet function, I would also normally scope it as "Private"
Is there a way to have a function that is available to other VBA modules in the same project, but not to Excel as a worksheet function?

We're trying to create an invoicing sheet with MS excel for our sub contractors but we also want the information they input to be transfered onto a second work sheet within the work book that has our mark up added.
Problem is that we don't want our sub contractors to see the sheet with the mark up. Is there any way to hide a work sheet or to limit access to the work sheets some one can veiw with in a workbook?

I have a worksheet that contains over 15k rows, each row, in column AK has an input of X-123, x123, 123, ENVEL, ROL, WPL-503, etc. there are a total of 20 different inputs. These inputs are found on another file and inputted from with a Vlookup formula.
I tried advanced filter, but it is limited and thought, if I have a command button that opens a userform then I can select which ones I want to be hidden.
I don't know exactly if I should use a checkbox, listbox, combo box ect.

I've done a search for this but cant find the complete answer for what I'm looking for. Basically I've got a "Home Sheet" set-up where the user can only navigate to worksheets via the buttons on the home page (with a short- cut to go back to the home page). It works ok (very basic though) but the user can still use the worksheet tabs at the bottom of the screen to navigate (making this system void).
how I can, either, hide the worksheet tabs at the bottom of excel, or, a better way of navigating these worksheets (there is only about 6 of them).

knew if there was a way to hide the available tabs in an excel worksheet.
I know you may be thinking just right click and hide, however what I am looking for is a little different.
Basically I have a Macro Enabled work sheet which works on a "one click" system. The work sheet is full of buttons with assigned macros and data validation drop down boxes which link to many different tabs. The entire sheet is for information only so I will be locking the sheets to avoid data manipulation. The problem with right clicking and hiding the tabs is that it interfears with the macros.
All I really want to do is make these tabs not visible. I have set the sheet to open in full screen mode and they obviously are still there, but this is basically what I am looking to do. Not so much hide them in terms of sending them into the background, more so make them "drop off" the bottom of the screen to they are still active but not visible.
