Conditional Formatting Of Adjacent Cells From Dropdown List?

Jan 9, 2013

In one column I have a drop down list of a dozen different initials with conditional formatting on those cells. I would also like to conditionally format an adjacent text string column based on those initials, but don't want to set up a dozen rules on each cell, one by one. If I set up the top cell with the correct rules I cannot fill the formatting in because the formula is not updated on a row by row basis, but en bloc for the range.

Getting Conditional Formatted Dropdown List Items To Keep Their Formatting In List

Feb 12, 2014

I found code online that I can put on my sheet to get my formatting properties to stay the same for the items in my dropdown list located on another page. However the code does not work for conditional formatted cells...which is what I need. This is the code that I have that will carry over regular formatted cells. Just not Conditional formatted cells.

Conditional Formatting Based On Top 10 Values In Adjacent Cells?

Jun 3, 2014

I have a matrix in excel to show % and $ for multiple columns - set up like this:

Rows Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
Criteria 1 % $ % $ % $
Criteria 2
Criteria 3

the $ columns are conditionally formatted to highlight the top 10 values on the matrix. is there a way to have the corresponding % cells also highlighted? The % and $ aren't both top 10, so the % would have to be highlighted based on the $ top 10 cells.

Conditional Formatting To Check If Adjacent Cells Are Empty?

Jul 18, 2014

I've got a list and I need to check if the adjacent cells for a column are empty or not, and if both are empty then format to a certain color. I have a solution but don't know how to implement it into a format fit for conditional formatting.

I have this in the new rule section of conditional formatting

=IF(AND(ISBLANK(OFFSET(I4,0,-1)),(ISBLANK(OFFSET(I4,0,1))),(ISBLANK(I4)=FALSE)),TRUE,FALSE)

If conditional formatting would allow it I would simply change I4 to the entire range, I am very much confused as to how to format this cell to work with conditional formatting. (I4 is the first cell in the list)

Something else is that if I change I4 to I5 or something then moves all the highlighted cells around, and to top it off the first few cells which should obviously be highlighted aren't, even though the rest of the cells which should be highlighted are.

Automatically Updating Adjacent Cells Based On Dropdown List Selection Even If Changed

Apr 12, 2013

I have a workbook that has two worksheets. One worksheet is an input worksheet. A user will select a date from a drop-down list and type in the events that occurred on that date in 8 adjacent cells. The user selects a button that advances date and clears form. On sheet 2, whatever was typed into sheet one is saved via VLOOKUP formula. However, if I try to change something retroactively and select a previous date from the drop-down list, it clears everything in sheet 2 that was typed for any selected day.

Conditional Formatting Date Cells Based On Entry In Adjacent Cell

Jul 22, 2008

I have a spreadsheet with 'due date' for returns in column L and 'received date' for returns, in the adjacent column M.

I would like to get the due date to turn red when it is overdue, ie. the date in the cell has arrived and no return was submitted. By trawlling the forum, I managed to accomplish this with the following in conditional formatting:
Cell value is less than or equal to =TODAY()

All's great.....but - I would like the date to turn back to black if I enter a date in the adjacent received column, column M.

In other words, I want to flag a problem if the due date has passed, but once I receive the return and enter the date I receive it, i would like the due date entry to revert back to the original formatting ie. black. So only the outstanding returns are highlighted.

Conditional Formatting Based On Adjacent Cell?

Mar 4, 2012

I want the font of a value in a cell to turn green or red based on the value of the cell below it - NOT based on a set value or range like all of the other examples are based on. I want to apply a formula or condition to the entire table.

Column a has the date for each value, newest date is row 1 and oldest date is row 250. Column b-k has the number value for each animal species we are tracking. If there are more animals than the day before, the value went up and I want the font to be green. If there are less animals than the day before, then value went down and I want the font to be green.

There are about 250 rows in each table and I have 4 tables. I thought I could do conditional formating but I can only find how to change font color based on a set value. For instance, for each day there are over 10 turkeys, then it would be green. That is NOT what I want, see below:

Mon 5 no color change
Fri 5 color change to green
Thu 4 color change to red
Wed 5 color change to red
Tue 7 color change to green
Mon 5

date looks more like this - col a is date, col b is turkey, col c deer, etc

Mon 5 4 3 4 2
Fri 5 3 4 2 7
Wed 5 2 7 1 0
Tue 7 4 6 5 9
Mon 5 1 1 5 4

I would think this is similar to daily stock prices, if data goes up then it is in green, but if the price goes down then in red. Not based on purchase price (set value), but based on previous days closing price. For this report, I only care about the change day to day.

Excel 2007 :: How To Stop Conditional Formatting From Copying To Adjacent Cell

Jun 6, 2012

Excel 2007.

I have conditional formatting set up so that the cell becomes highlighted if it contains a specific text.

Example of wanted conditional formatting:

Conditional formatting rules manager
Rule

Format

Applies to

Stop if true

[Code] ......

For some reason this formatting is inherited by another adjacent cell as we continue to input information.

For example:

Column M is formatted so if 'AP' is placed in any cell in that column the cell fills pink. As more information is inputted into the sheet, the conditional formatting copies to Column N. It does not happen with every entry and I have not been able to isolate the specific steps to recreate the copying. Multiple people use the same sheet and fill it out and needed.

After working with the sheet changes are made to the "applies to" column without people meaning to.

For example:

Conditional formatting rules manager
Rule

Format

Applies to

[Code] .......

I would like to make this formatting so that is only applies to the Column M and not "travel" to other cells of the sheet.

Populate Data In Non-Adjacent Cells (From Dropdown)

Mar 27, 2013

How to populate data in non-adjacent cells from information that is stored on another sheet. Sheet 1 is essentially setup to be visually pleasing to the user, but the data stored behind it is on another sheet stored in a more logical manner. I would like to auto-populate the nicely formatted sheet with information from sheet 2 when an item from a drop-down list is selected. I have found quite a few ways to do this using offset, etc. but in my case the values will be pulled into cells that are spread around the design sheet in no set order.

Excel 2010 :: Conditional Formatting And Dropdown Box?

Jan 5, 2013

See attached spreadsheet with sample. When a cell with lets say 1 is selected, a drop box appears and the color and description are shown. Select a color but only show the 1 and the color selected, leaving behind the description. How can I do this for all 19 boxes. This seems like its a classic conditional format. Unfortunately it appears to be several orders of difficulty than a normal conditional format.

Dependent Dropdown Lists And Conditional Formatting?

Jun 14, 2013

I have three drop-down boxes in 3 adjacent columns. Column 1 is free-choice, Columns 2 and 3 drop-downs are variable dependent on what is in Column 1. That works fine.

I have an issue with over-type but I can solve that with protection. Again fine.

BUT:

1. How do I make the user choose something i.e. not just leave the cell in column 2 or 3 blank by ignoring it (i.e. blank is an error but only after drop-down in column 1 is activated)

2. Also, if the user has completed the line (columns 1,2 and 3) and then changes column 1, columns 2 and 3 are now reading from the incorrect drop-down boxes (i.e. they are now in error but this is accepted and not flagged).

Conditional Formatting Based On Selected Values Of Two Dropdown Menus

Dec 9, 2011

I am building a spreadsheet with a column having two drop down menus at the top that designate independent, but strict conditions. For simplicity, say I have in cell A1 a drop down menu with choices "alpha, beta, gamma" while A2 has a drop down menu for "1, 2, 3". These six values sit off to the side in cells X1, X2, X3, X4, X5 and X6 respectively.

In cell A3 I woul like to change its color, perhaps to green because it is an acceptable number (say less than or equal to 100) or change to red if unacceptable, value greater than 100.

I can do both of these commands in Excel, no problem. In my situation, I would like to change the value at which cell A3 goes from green to red dependent on the options in A1 & A2. There are 9 such combinations of alpha, beta, gamma, paired with 1,2,3 and I would like the combinations to change the fill color of cell A3 in the following manner:

If A1 = alpha and A2 = 1, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 100 and red for values greater than 100.
If A1 = beta and A2 = 1, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 80 and red for values greater than 80.
If A1 = gamma and A2 = 1, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 60 and red for values greater than 60.
If A1 = alpha and A2 = 2, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 95 and red for values greater than 95.
If A1 = beta and A2 = 2, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 75 and red for values greater than 75.
If A1 = gamma and A2 = 2, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 55 and red for values greater than 55.
If A1 = alpha and A2 = 3, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 92 and red for values greater than 92.
If A1 = beta and A2 = 3, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 72 and red for values greater than 72.
If A1 = gamma and A2 = 3, then A3 will be green for values less than or equal to 52 and red for values greater than 52.

How to create a cell that can change its conditional formatting based on the selected values of two drop down menus.

I have a few other conditions I would like to implement, say change the fill color of A3 to green, orange or red dependant on the values in A1 & A2, but I might be able to crack that if I can see how the above scenario is done.

VBA Code - Changing Formatting Of Adjacent Cells At Varying Places

Jul 31, 2012

I have a macro that, at varying places, changes the formatting of adjacent cells. The formatting code is easy to generate via the macro recorder, but it's long - longer than the macro itself - and I'm using it a couple of times (due to if statements). That makes it difficult to read. It's usable, but looks ugly. I'd like to streamline its appearance.

Is there a way to do something like:

Code:
If range("F5").Value > 0 then
Activecell.Offset(1,0) format = blah
ElseIf Range("F5").Value = 0 then
Activecell.Offset(-1,0) format = blah
End If

The formatting I want is dark gray interior with a border box around it. The macro recorder generated this:

Code:
Sub test2()
'
' test2 Macro
'
'
With Selection.Interior
.Pattern = xlSolid
.PatternColorIndex = xlAutomatic
.ThemeColor = xlThemeColorDark1
