Data Validation "avoid Duplicate And Non Specified No.s"

May 19, 2006

I have a list of buses numbered something like this 320-360, 700-750, 800-899, 900-990. (but not always consecutive ie... 325 may be deleted). each day I want to enter them into a worksheet call "Shed" ( cells B3:E46) which is how they are parked ie.. bus 320 in B3, 321, in B4, .... bus 700 in E3, 701 in E5 etc....

I only want to be able to enter the bus number once so it won't be allocated in the shed more than once. (the code below provides this, but it also allows entries between the lowest and highest numbers which is not suitable.) The numbers are listed in column M to R

=And(Or(And(B3>=$M$2,B3<=$M$250),And(B3>=$N$2,B3< =$N$250),And(B3>=$O$2,B3<=$O$250),And(B3>=$P$2,B3< =$P$23),And(B3>=$Q$2,B3<=$Q$23),And(B3>=$R$2,B3<=$ R$23)), COUNTIF($B$3:$E$46,B3)<2)

The numbers will also change after time, numbers will be added to and numbers will be removed. I hope I haven't waffled on too much. but that is basicly what I was wanting to do.

Data Validation: Avoid Duplicates In A Range

Jun 19, 2008

I have a range (offset based) which may increase by rows or columns whenever necessary.
In that I have data table like this:

HUNONETWOTHREEFOURFIVESIX
100110021003100410051006100
200120022003200420052006200
300180028003800480058006800
400140024003400440054006400
500150025003500450055006500

In the above table I want to enter in another column or row, a number which is not available in the given table (i.e. no duplication is allowed). (This table may grow both column & row wise). If, duplication is there the message box should say that the value already exist. And, if possible, the existing value can be colored with any color, so that we can easily find out where it is.

1) how to name a offset table and
2) how to avoid duplicate value when entered? Is data validation is one solution?

Data Validation To Work When A Duplicate Value Is Pasted Into A Column

Feb 10, 2009

I have to enter patient's SSN's into my database. The fastest and most error free way to do this is simply copy the SSN from the electronic chart and paste into the appropriate cell in the database. I don't want duplicates. So, I need the database to alert me when I paste in a duplicate SSN. I know you can set data validation to do prohibit duplicates by using a formula. In the attached spreadsheet the SSN is in column B, so:

Duplicate - Dependent / Related / Interconnected Data Validation (Dropdown Lists)

Jun 6, 2014

I have an Excel file with two different visible sheets (dashboards), each with different types of charts, which are pulling from the same data tables on a hidden sheet. I have a data validation drop down list on one of the dashboard sheets, which lists 7 items. Once one of the 7 item is selected, both dashboards update, which is what I want. However, I'd like to be able to have duplicated, related validation drop down lists. So if someone is looking at the first dashboard sheet and they select a new item, when they go to the second dashboard and see that same item, they could on that second dashboard select a new item without having to go back to the first dashboard.

I'd provide an example if I could, but cannot. I've tried searching on the forum for something similar, but most often the topic of dependent data validation is on two different types of drop downs with the second being dependent on the first, whereas I'm looking for two drop downs that are interconnected and can update in sync.

Nested Data Validation: Figure A To Enforce Dual Data Validation On A Single Cell?

Aug 19, 2009

I'm trying to figure a to enforce dual data validation on a single cell. That is, I need to restrict the user to entering only a decimal value, only if a particular other cell (say A2) is blank. To put it another way, if A2 is blank, the user can enter a decimal value, but if A2 is not blank, the user cannot enter anything. I can use Data Validation to enforce either the decimal restriction or the ISBLANK, but I'm not sure how to make them work together.

I am pulling data from a database and want to do an average based on data that was input per day, basically I did a SUMPRODUCT in a different file to avoid having the source open, but I can't make it average the data and disregard if there were ZEROS in that day.

e.g.
Column A Column B Column C

6/25/2013 B 1.45
6/25/2013 C 1.9
6/25/2013 D 0

Formula To Handle 5 Fields Of Data To Avoid Creating Extra Columns?

Nov 27, 2009

I am inputting 5 variables in columns A through E:

Family (Y/N)
Adult (1/0)
Child (1/0)
Date of Birth
Gender

I am attempting to generate:

Age Males in families sorted into age brackets
Age Females in families sorted into age brackets
Age Males single sorted into age brackets
Age Females single sorted into age brackets

I did this rather simplistically generating 4 columns (F through I) and then using COUNTIF (although I know there is a better way than the lame way I used COUNTIF but that is not the point right now).

However, my question is, can I generate the data described above (located in D13:I22 on my spreadsheet) without going through the messy, cumbersome step of creating extra columns?

Excel 2013 :: Condense Duplicate Data To One Row Data In Same Column In New Row

I simply want to condense each player's performance data into one row - as doing it by hand after each event is very time-consuming.

Is there a way of using a simple formula, macro or pivot table (or whatever) to merge each player into one row, but keep each column in the same position (ie to correspond to each weekly event).

Displaying And Summing Data With Duplicate Data Fields

Jun 6, 2009

I am trying to do is when a user enters in a GL (a 4 digit number) from the list (tab 2) I want it to appear in the summary box below. However the same GL number can be used multiple times so I will have duplicates. The data entered above will always change there is over 200 possiblities the user can enter. So I don't want the data to be specific it will populate based on what is entered by the user.

Can this even be done?????

Say if the user entered:

Column C Column G
4606 $20.00
4606 $20.00
2134 $15.00
2301 $35.00
4606 $100.00

The data in the GL and currency column in the summary box would appear as the following:

Column C Column G
2134 $15.00
2301 $35.00
4606 $140.00

How To Use INDEX Formula In Conjunction With Data Validation To Output Data

Jan 9, 2014

Essentially, I would like a user to be able to select a PUB from the Data Validation drop down in row 2 of the PUB RATES sheet so that the corresponding information in the DATA sheet autofills.

Currently, this works only for the first column under each PUB when selected and this fills across all 4 columns (rather than the respective information for each column filling).

Also, the Data Validation dropdown includes blanks which I would like to exclude.

I have used a Range Name for the Data Validation of each PUB so that these can be drawn from a separate sheet as I don't want all the DATA content on the same sheet as the PUB RATES content.

Allow User To Automatically Add Data To Data Validation List

Oct 27, 2009

I am trying to learn the concepts, then apply them to a set of actual worksheets. I am trying to use named ranges from one worksheet in another worksheet. The named ranges need to expand. Although I can get the add data to a dummy worksheet to work within the same worksheet and I can even get a named range to work in the foreign sheet.

My problem is, when I can end up adding the additional data to the named range, it will only add one name. I have a number of named ranges that are referenced on various worksheets. The idea is, certain named ranges should be able to expand so I donft have to type them all in. (There could be hundreds of manufacturers or models.) I would also like them to be able to sort themselves after additional names are added to the named ranges. I would also like them to auto populate as well. I am using Excel 2003 SP3 (11.8307.8221). I have enclosed the file. Drop down lists (named ranges) are on the worksheet called DROP DOWN LISTS (LOCKED) **ITfS NOT CURRENTLY LOCKED**.

The data validation issues are on the worksheet called Rev7.0 Wood (Basic Sheet.) There are other instances to use these, but I hope to learn to do them myself on the other worksheets. Of particular interest is Column f.................

Use IF To Avoid Getting Anything Written After

Nov 5, 2008

I'm havin' a chart for interest, instalments and so on;

Interest [X%] Loan [Z crowns/dollars]
Loantime [Y years] Instalment [formula, which is "=Z/Y/12"]for each month.

Year, Month, Loan(left), Instalment, Total payment
1, Januari, =Z, =Instalment (constant), =Interest+Instalment

Month, Loan(left), Interest
Februari, =above-Instalment, =X%*Loan(left)/12 (rent is divided per year),

Instalment, Total payment
Constant, =rent+Instalment

and so on... as long as you want ^^ (it's quite messy, but try :D)

The question is as follows "What would a loan of 900'000kr with 9% interest rate totally cost over 30 years?"

[use "IF" to avoid getting anything written after the loan expires]

The question itself can be easily solved by just dragging the formulas down to 30 years and fill in the % and loan etc. But what I do not understand is the "IF" question. I'm supposed to use the IF function to instantly show the cost of the loan (total rent payment) after the 30 years? That's how I understood it. In that case... how do I do that? ^^

Avoid #N/A In Vlookup

Feb 22, 2008

I know how to avoid getting the #N/A in a vlookup, but I have found situations where I have data matches and still get #N/A. For instance, I am looking up an item number (which contains numbers and letters) on one tab to find corresponding info on another tab. I've verified that the item number is indeed in the lookup range but I still get the #N/A. If I copy and paste the item number over the same item number in the lookup range then it works. However, I don't want to do this for each item number.
