Too Much IF In Data Validation List Source
Apr 8, 2014I try to find a solution (with or without macro) to assign different ranges named "Failure_C..." in a data validation source depending on the value of another data validation list (32 values called)
I started in the Data Validation List Source to fill in IF function but 32 inputs are not accepted and too much caracters in the source.
The formula is starting like that:
=IF(A57=$M$78,Failure_C01,IF(A57=$M$79,Failure_C02,IF(A57=$M$80,Failure_C03,

VBA To Choose The Source Cells For A List With Data Validation
Mar 10, 2008when you choose Data Validation for a specific cell, you can choose list. Once you have chosen list for "Allow", you can select the source cells for what will be in the drop-down menu. I want to be able to use VBA (or just use Excel) to modify those source cells.
For example:
There will be 3 lists with drop-down menus using Data Validation.
List 1:
Choose first option in list -> List 2 uses source A
Choose second option in list -> List 2 uses Source B
etc...
List 2:
Choose first option in list -> List 3 uses source C
Choose second option in list -> List 3 uses source D

Mar 27, 2009I have a pivot table created. How do I determine which sheet it is pulling the data from, hence the source of the pivot table? Also, if can you go into source and modify data points, then in pivot table, will the results would be automatically modified with updated data points?

Feb 14, 2013I'm trying to streamline some processes at work and have encountered a bit of an issue.
I have a source file containing a grid of data (9 columns) with a series of dates they relate to down the left side e.g. 13-Feb-2013. This data covers a whole year.
What I want to do is pull through data relating to a discrete month into a grid in a seperate workbook.
I have a feeling that date ranges and possibly some kind of lookup might be useful but am struggling to see how to pull it all together.
Data Validation - Source Currently Evaluates To Error
Apr 28, 2014I am currently creating a form to hold 2 drop down lists that change depending on the selection in the first one. I had never done this before and taught myself and got it to work minus one problem. As soon as I input the formula under the Data Validation the error: "The Source currently evaluates to an error. Do you want to continue?" pops up. Right now the formula works except for the last 6 options in my first drop down. When I select them nothing pops up in the 2nd drop down menu. I have double checked and triple checked that I have no spaces or anything in my LIST on worksheet 2 or any of the names are input correctly.
A7 is the first drop down - PROPOSED
B7 the second. - ITEM #
Lists and data to populate the lists are on worksheet 2 with the "List" at the bottom of worksheet 2...
Data Validation Used To Create Separate Data Validation List
Feb 15, 2014I have 2 columns First Name & Surname. What I want to do is create a data validation list on the surname which results in the 2nd data validation list only showing the first names which link to one of the surnames.
i.e. If I selected Smith in the 1st validation list then I would only like to see 'Paul' as an option in the 2nd list

Jul 16, 2009I have several cells with data validation's drop Box. Every data validation uses a range name as source (myColorList). Here goes the hard part: I need a new value inside the dropBox list, but The problem is that I can NOT modify the "myColorList" range.

Link To External Source Workbook For Data Validation Lookup Values Returns Zeros
Mar 25, 2014Say I have Source Workbook X 1, and Destination Workbooks X 4. The Source workbook contains a number of lookup values. I want the lookup values to be maintained in the single Source workbook, and I want this workbook to remain closed when the end users are using their Destination workbooks. It is critical that certain cells in the Destination workbooks have validated data in order for formulas and summarizations to be correct.
I'm happy if the Destination workbooks contain a lookup worksheet (perhaps hidden). In short, I'd like the contents from the Source workbook, Lookups worksheet, to just be replicated "as is" into the Destination workbooks, Lookups worksheet. I then want to do my data validation from that worksheet, which of course is open (data validation appears to only work with open workbooks).

Questions:
1) Are the techniques in that link about the best approach? i.e. an external link plus array formulas?
2) A blank cell in the source workbook (text column but formatted as General) is resulting in a zero in the external link. How can I make the external link exactly match the text as entered in the source workbook?

May 15, 2009I have tried putting in the Row Source in the Properties of ListBox1, (A10:A13) but the range is in another worksheet called Codes. So when I run the Form the list box shows the range A10:A13 in the current sheet. I have named the data list SP but when I punch that in it will not accept it in the Row Source. How can I lock in the source data in the list box so it only shows the named range SP.

Sep 7, 2006I have a report that was created for 2005 that contains two worksheets: a "source data" worksheet and a " pivot table" worksheet. I cleared out the 2005 data in the "source data" worksheet and replaced it with 2006 data...after this I refreshed the Pivot Table and everything seemed fine. When looking at the file size I noticed that it was almost twice its original size....upon further investigation I found that the Pivot Table was internally holding onto the old source data (the "Show" functionality of the rows/columns in the table lists the 2005 row/column headers as well as the 2006 headers....even though no data from 2005 is shown in the Pivot Table).
Does anyone know how to purge the old data from the internal Pivot Table memory?
I hope this is enough information....let me know if you need more.

May 28, 2014I want to load the actual data exist in the rows by selection value from the data validation list.
E.g I have two worksheet in one excel file. One has a data activities of persons with their name like two columns i have in which one exist the name of person and second exist the activities which they perform.
On the second sheet, i made a data validation list of all the person names
Now my requirement is, when i select a person name from the list, load all the data from the 1st sheet to second sheet. Is this possible without VB code, because I want to share it on the Google sheet with my boss, where VB sheet is not supposed to work.

Allow User To Automatically Add Data To Data Validation List
Oct 27, 2009I am trying to learn the concepts, then apply them to a set of actual worksheets. I am trying to use named ranges from one worksheet in another worksheet. The named ranges need to expand. Although I can get the add data to a dummy worksheet to work within the same worksheet and I can even get a named range to work in the foreign sheet.
My problem is, when I can end up adding the additional data to the named range, it will only add one name. I have a number of named ranges that are referenced on various worksheets. The idea is, certain named ranges should be able to expand so I donft have to type them all in. (There could be hundreds of manufacturers or models.) I would also like them to be able to sort themselves after additional names are added to the named ranges. I would also like them to auto populate as well. I am using Excel 2003 SP3 (11.8307.8221). I have enclosed the file. Drop down lists (named ranges) are on the worksheet called DROP DOWN LISTS (LOCKED) **ITfS NOT CURRENTLY LOCKED**.
The data validation issues are on the worksheet called Rev7.0 Wood (Basic Sheet.) There are other instances to use these, but I hope to learn to do them myself on the other worksheets. Of particular interest is Column f.................
Data Validation List: Ignore Blanks Between Data
Nov 1, 2006In column A I have a list of text. There are blank lines in between the cell that actually contain text. What I am trying to accomplish is create a validation list that will give me only the cells with text in them and ignore the blanks. For example in column A1:A7 I have the following text:
John
Mike
Tony
Jake
My validation list will return those names but will also give me the blanks in between the names.
Is there any way to ignore the blanks?
Build List In Dropdown From Data Source
Aug 27, 2009I have a workbook with two spreadsheets, one blank and one with a Header row and a list of employee names and random dates that will continue to be added to at the bottom per a copy and paste.
What I need is to have a form dropdown on the blank sheet (per a cell reference) that shows employee names and dates that has that name next to it in the data sheet.
The employee names are in three columns Last, First, and Middle and the dates are in a separate column (A).
I guess I need a VLOOKUP that can take the range and pull into the dropdown the employee name and every date associated with that name.
Validation Choice From Pull Down List Triggering A Warning Box
Sep 19, 2006Is there a way to trigger a warning box (ie - must be divisible by 50) when a specific entry is selected from a pull down validation list? The triggering factor is a correct answer to the validation so I do not think the error alert will work in this instance.

Data Validation List With Changing Data
Jun 3, 2009I would like to utilize data validation to create a drop down list from a list of 100 rows that changes monthly. Currently the list is set to draw data from A1:A100, however depending on the month, different cells will have data in them. What I don't like is currently the blank cells create gaps in the data validation drop down list and make it longer than it needs to be. Is there any way for excel to automatically just display cells with data in them in the drop down?

Jun 28, 2009have created a list obx using data validation. My question is, is there a way to limit the data available on the list.
Example: sheet 1
A1 A2 A3
Address A
address p
address s Date
Sheet 2
has data validation list that consists of all of A1 a named range called "address". Everything works great.
I now want to be able to limit the available choices in the list depending on what cell the user is in
example: if user is in sheet2 a1, i only want them to be able to pick address that have an "A" or "p" in cell A2 on sheet 1
I tried to acomplish this using conditional formatting, I format my named range with different colors, but the colors do not carry over to the data validation list on sheet2.

And I use data validation list in 5 different cells from Cells C1 to C5 then in every cell the list will show all the fruits,
But I want that if I select Any Fruit in cell C1 that should not be included in the remaining 4 cells, and the fruits selected in Cells C1 and Cell C2 should not be included in the remaining 3 cells and so on....
I Used the formula
=IF(C1=A1,OFFSET(A2,,,COUNTA($A$2:$A$5),1),0)
But this works fine if I select Apple in the Cell C1, then the List of C2 Shows all Fruits other than Apple, But if in Cell C1 I select any fruit other than Apple it does not work... (Using Excel2007 & Win XP)
