Delete Certain Rows With An Input Box
Jul 4, 2009
I would like a macro that does this. Note for below that the "state" column will never be in a fixed column position, so this macro must search for "state" by name and not column position.
1. Find the column named "state"
2. Bring up a message box saying "Please enter the state/states you would like to use, separate each state with a comma"
3. The user would then enter in each state/states they want to use and press "OK"
4. The macro then deletes ALL ENTIRE ROWS NOT matching the state/states IN THAT COLUMN that were entered in the message box by the user (except the header row of course). To clarify number 4 further, the macro should ONLY look in the "state" column when deciding whether to delete the WHOLE ROW or not.
5. The case should be non case-sensitive, for the "active worksheet", and if possible, should work whether the user enters in more states with either
a) comma state
or
b) comma space state
6. Also, I'm only using "states" for example reasons only but actual text length can more more characters long. The criteria entered in the message box should not be limited to two characters.

1) Allow user input of a number between 1 and 999
2) Search column three and delete any rows that don't match this number.
I have some code that would delete any rows within a certain column, based on predefined criteria and i've tried modifying it to suit my needs.

I am using the following piece of code to delete unwanted rows from a worksheet:
Sub DeleteDates()
FinalRow = Cells(65536, 3).End(xlUp).Row
For i = FinalRow To 1 Step -1
If Cells(i, 3).Value Like "*2007*"
Cells(i, 1).EntireRow.Delete
End If
Next i
End Sub
What I am working with is a sheet of about 5000 customer appointments going back to the beginning of 2006. A have peiced together a lot of code to format it exactly as I want and to create a pivot table of what is remaining after the rubbish has been deleted.
However I am finding that I need to keep amending and re-running this bit of code, depending on the date range I want to look at. For example the code above will delete all appointments made in 2007.
My question is: is there a way that I could incorporate an input box, whereby excel asks the user for a start date and an end date and deletes any rows outwith that range?
Some important info: All of the dates are in column C, in the format mmm yyyy
I would only need to narrow down to a month - so for example mar 2008 - jun 2008

I read in a txt file with the code below. There's some kind of special character in the last 3 lines of the input file that makes the macro crash. I don't need anything in those 3 rows. How can I delete them before my Do Until loop?
-----
Sub Mytxt()
Dim Mytxt As String
Mytxt = Application.GetOpenFilename(FileFilter:="EXCEL files (*.txt),*.txt", Title:="Open the Report file you need")
If Mytxt = "" Then Exit Sub
Workbooks.Open Filename:=Mytxt
Open Mytxt For Input As #1
i = 1
Do Until (EOF(1) = True)
Line Input #1, tempstr
Cells(i, 1) = Mid(tempstr, 23, 5)
Cells(i, 2) = Mid(tempstr, 25, 1)
Cells(i, 3) = Mid(tempstr, 33, 3)
i = i + 1
Loop
Close 1
End Sub

I have a spreadsheet that I use throughout the day and have to send an email to another person when a customer makes a payment. The number of products they pay for will be different each time and I have the code to copy the right cells into an email and the code to insert the right number of rows for how many things the customer is paying for however as I use it multiple times through the day, I need the code to insert the right number of rows, copy it over to the email then automatically delete the rows it has just inserted so it is back to basics so I can use it again.
The code I have for the inserting the rows (from searching through forums) is:
Sub PRows()
Dim NextRow As Long
Dim NrOfCopies As Long
Dim i As Long
Const NrOfCopiesDefault = 1
Const NrOfCopiesMaximum = 9
[code]....

I am trying to write a macro that asks which row in the active worksheet I want to delete. It asks for confirmation, "Do you really want to delete row" and whatever the user inputted into the input box. It will also color the row yellow so it is clear which row is to be deleted. After confirmation it will delete the whole row and shift all other rows up.

removing duplicate rows and move other data frm rows to columns.xlsx.
I am attaching a sample excel sheet showing what I need to do.In the first tab, I have a list that includes duplicate rows (first column only). I want to remove those duplicate rows but I don't want to lose the data in the following columns which can be unique or duplicates as well.
see the desired result tab in the sheet to get an idea of what I am looking for as the end result.
Keep in mind that the actual source file I am working with could have up to 50000 row, and the expected results could be around 2000 rows. So nothing can be done manually.

I am trying to build a user-friendly Excel database that takes the user's input from various cells and logs that data input by the user in successive rows to the side. Please see the screenshots of my current spreadsheet below:
Compressor Database.jpg
From the screenshot above, I would like for the user to input their data for the Date of Last Inspection, Current Hours, and check the boxes for any services they performed in the orange/pink "Input" box on the left. Currently I have the spreadsheet set up so that the orange/pink "input" areas recognize data put in to the yellow "Data Log" cells to the right. I am trying to get the yellow "Data Log" cell area to store the Date and Hours data put in by the user in successive rows like a database, but I am not sure how to do this. I was thinking of putting a button in the says "Log Data" which would, when clicked, store the data in the "Data Log" cells. I am unsure if I need to use a Macro or whether Excel has a simple, built-in function that can be used. Eventually I have plans for the "Date of Last _______ Change" Gray boxes, but would like to take this one step at a time.
I am not well versed in VBA and Excel Macros, and I am currently using Microsoft Excel 2007 (yes, I know it is old). I do have C# and Matlab coding experience, however I would like to do this in Excel to make it easier for the User as it is a well known program.

I have two columns and each record in the spreadsheet fills both cells. I want all rows beneath the data to be hidden except for one, which is for the user to input a new record. When they are done completing the record, 1 row becomes unhidden (which will be for another inputted record). I also need it so that the new row becomes unhidden ONLY when the user inputs values in BOTH columns of the new record. I have already used Data Validation on each individual cell (column a is validated only for numeric entries and column b can only be picked from a drop-down list)

I am working with timesheet data (name, project code, task code, date, hours etc...) in one spreadsheet and rate card data (name, role, day rate etc...) in another.
My task is to pull together some of the information in each of these two source spreadsheets and compile a report. This I have done no problem. However, where a person works on a particular project and task on the same day and records multiple entries (which could be negative) I need to consolidate the hours in all these matching rows and have just one row reflect the total hours worked and delete the other duplicate rows.
So an example would be:
Project | Task | Name | Role | Date | Hours
123456 | 1.001 | Paul Jones | Project Manager | 20/02/2008 | 2.5
123456 | 1.001 | Paul Jones | Project Manager | 20/02/2008 | -2.5
123456 | 1.001 | Paul Jones | Project Manager | 20/02/2008 | 3.5
[Code]....
My problem is I don't think I have approached this the right way but am unsure of where to go with it. The code as is does sort of work but I still get some duplicate and zero lines in my results.

I need a macro that can look at multiple (say three) rows and delete those rows if they match another three rows in the worksheet.
For example:
1 0
3 1
5 7
4 4
6 5
8 3
1 8
5 2
3 9
6 5
8 3
1 8
7 5
If three rows are the same, then one set is deleted (it can be either bottom or top set). I would like to do this for rows 1-500 in the worksheet.

Dim lastrow As Long
lastrow = Sheet1.Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
MsgBox lastrow
With Sheet1
For t = 1 To lastrow
If Cells(t, 1) = "" Then
Rows(t).Delete
End If
Next t
End With
End Sub
Although it is working , it is not deleting all the blank rows at once, I have to keep pressing on the macro button running the macro several times, until all blank rows are completely deleted.

I have a worksheet in which I have sorted the data based in date and numbering (column I and E). I would like to create 2 macros for following actions:
1- all rows with the value "TOM" in column C will have to be deleted.
2- all rows with a value of 601 or 602 in column E, will have to be moved to the bottom of the sheet after the last row with data. The rows that have been moved will have to be sorted based in date (column I) and numbering (column E).

I have an imported report in a spreadsheet. It imports to three columns. I need to check each row in column A for three seperate criteria and delete the rows I don't need. I need to delete blank rows and check next row for page header info. Delete these and next rows to next blank cell. Check next row for page header and not delete if not page header. Several rows down will be a cell with 23 blank spaces before the word Reg: and sometimes other words past this but always this first. This row is to be kept. I looked at the FAQ's example of Deleting but I don't think it will work. I also need to put a key word in column A at a point where I want to stop. This report is a couple thousand rows long so a VBA procedure would really save time. I have a procedure I use to check for two zero's in two cells that hide these rows but I couldn't modify it to work on this report.

I am a production manager for a homebuilder and I am trying to create an Excel spreadsheet that will allow me to input a date in a column and have a second column dependant on the date and move as I change the date.
Since no work is done on weekends, I'd like the output column to skip weekends and move the input to the next available weekday. I have conditionally formatted the date to be a red fill as a visual cue but I'm not sure where to go from here.

I would like to present the user with an input box asking him to enter a numerical value greater than 0.
Then I would like the code starting with row 10 and consult the vaues in column O, and only display the rows that have number in it less than or equal to the number in the input box. I was hoping it would involve a filter.
I would also need a macro to display all of the rows again.
If this is too hard, how about copying the results to a new worksheet along with the labels in row 9?

This sheet has A:K columns and 1:3212 rows. There are 'page headers' that are in the text file that I want to delete (the text file was exported from an AS400 program). The first row that starts the page header has SA341 in column 1. Each page header has 5 rows. I used this code from one of the other threads on deleting rows, but I obviously do not understand the code as it deleted all rows that contained SA341.
Sub DeleteRows()
Column_To_Check = 1
Start_Row = 1
End_Row = ActiveSheet. Cells(Rows.Count, Column_To_Check).End(xlUp).Row
MsgBox End_Row
Search_String = "SA341"

If ActiveSheet.Cells(Row_Counter, Column_To_Check).Value < SA341 > Search_String Then
ActiveSheet.Rows(Row_Counter).Delete
End If
Next Row_Counter
End Sub
