Disable AutoSave / AutoRecover Code
Jan 4, 2008Is it possible to disable the autosave feature in vba?
View 3 RepliesIs it possible to disable the autosave feature in vba?
View 3 RepliesI have seen a number of discussions on this subject. I used Roy's code posted here and wanted to make a small change. I want to give the user a warning msg, few minutes before the autoclose would be scheduled to occur. This would give the user a chance to change cell selction or do somethig to reset the timer. If the message goes unanswered, the autoclose should occur as scheduled.
I am attaching a workbook with the macros installed in workbook, standard module and worksheet.
It dosn't seem to do what I want. It seems to work, but it acts differently everytime I run it.
Can someone please look at the attached workbook and help me fix it?
I have a macro which performs the auto save function perfectly. I'm looking at possible enhancements.
1. How to set autorecover save location in VBA? I know how to do this on the front-end i.e goto tools/options/save tab and set it there As i have disabled save autorecovery feature, autorecover save location is greyed out
2. How to create a backup of my workbook? So that my workbook will perform autosave and when i close this workbook at the end of the day all the latest changes are added to the backup and saved
What is the vba code to disable scrolling Up or down?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two radio buttons. Let's call them Button_1 and Button_2. They both have code behind the click event.
One of the lines in the Button_1 code makes the value of Button_2 false. If Button_2's value at the time is true, the Button_2 click event fires off and runs through it's code.
How do I disable Button_2's click event in this scenario so the value changes, but the code in it's click event won't run?
I tried application.enableevents = false, but that didn't do it.
I started to write mini codes but still much to learn.
Private Sub ComboBox3_Change()
If Range("A1") = "TRUE" Then
ComboBox3.Enabled = 1
ElseIf Range("A1") = "FALSE" Then
ComboBox3.Disabled = 1
End If
End Sub
I have these codes in place in my excel file, there is nothing wrong with them at all. Here is the the problem : My superior runs the macros in place in the file almost daily, and when he is done he then closes it and all is well.
The macros does things to other files so they are changed in a way that the supervisors like them. I avoided putting macros in these individual files, because of the attempt to make it as simplistic as possible without them being able to affect overall file.
The problem happens when he (my superior) accidently makes a change in the primary sheet in the workbook with all the macros, it affects alot of my formulas and macros that are already in place. Within this workbook, it keeps a log of things from the other files results, so I have to have a record of it in the workbook, hence having a save event in place.
The Question: Is it possible to create a macro button, that will allow him to disable the codes below, so that he can close it and open again, so that it doesn't show any of the errors that happens by accident and try to close it again so there is no errors? Basically, I am asking what is the code for this, and where would I place it in.
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)
Dim mylogoff
Set mylogoff = Sheet1. Range("A65536").End(xlUp).Offset(0, 1)
mylogoff.FormulaR1C1 = "=NOW()"
mylogoff.Copy
mylogoff.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks _
:=False, Transpose:=False
Application.CutCopyMode = Fals
mylogoff.Offset(0, 1).FormulaR1C1 = "=RC[-1]-RC[-2]"
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
Sheets("Start Here").Select
ThisWorkbook.Save
ThisWorkbook.Close
End Sub......................
Which code is "better" to disable D&D, C&P....
Private Sub Workbook_Activate()
Application.CutCopyMode = False
Application.OnKey "^c", ""
Application.CellDragAndDrop = False
End Sub
Private Sub Workbook_Deactivate()
[Code] .......
OR This one:
Option Explicit
Private Sub Workbook_Activate()
With Application
.CutCopyMode = False
.CellDragAndDrop = False
[Code] ........
I noltice that one uses "Option Explicit" and one doesn't, one seems to be longer than the other, but when I tested both, they both seem to do the same thing. I did notice that neither one of them prevents a "paste" into the worksheet when something is copied from an outside source, but that is not a concern right now!!!

View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there a way that I can have an excel document "autosave"?
Specificaly I would like: If a value in a specific cell's value is changed I would like the document to automatically save the document as the name of the value that is typed into that cell when the user closes the document.
I'm not sure if this is possible, but it would be great if there was some way to do this.
I am trying to use the following macro to autosave a document to a pdf file. It works except it always saves it as the same name. Is there a way I can make it save it and when it saves it, title it as the contents in cell A5?
Code:
ActiveSheet.ExportAsFixedFormat Type:=xlTypePDF, Filename:= _
"C:UsersTRFoundationDesktop529431.pdf", Quality:=xlQualityStandard, _
IncludeDocProperties:=True, IgnorePrintAreas:=False, OpenAfterPublish:= _
True
I have macro enabled workbooks that the contract number increases by one everytime they are opened. Is there a way to make it auto save though when its opened. Right now I have to click save as soon as I open it. If I do not do this when I open it, when I open it again the contract number will stay the same as it was, because I save it at the end after I put all customer info in.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to write a macro in excel that will save the document every couple of minutes. After searching the forums here for a bit I found something that might work:
Sub test()
newHour = Hour(Now())
newMinute = Minute(Now())
newSecond = Second(Now()) + 30
waittime = TimeSerial(newHour, newMinute, newSecond)
Do
ActiveWorkbook.Save
Loop
End Sub
The only thing about this is that it runs constantly and won't stop saving. Is there a way to do this where it will only save every 5 minutes or so?
I am using the following code to automatically save the workbook when excel is being closed.
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)
ActiveWorkbook.Close SaveChanges:=True
End Sub
This seems to be working fine (in the respect that when the user closes excel it saves this file without a prompt), the issue i have (and i appreciate it is a small issue) is that excel remains open but without any open workbooks. Is there a way i can amend my code so that excel closes too.
I m executing some macros in my file. After executing I need to save my file automatically (which is already saved). Means I dont need to press "CTRL + S".

I am a heavy user of excel and often have many workbooks open at the one time.
I wonder if anyone could help with some VBA code to automatically save a copy of a workbook on a monthly basis (Say the 1st of each month, or the nearest date to that if it has not been saved on the 1st.)
I would like this to be done without user input, and to be saved with the current workbook name + the current date. It can also be saved in the current workbook folder. I am using Win XP Pro and Excel 2003. This would also obviously need to check if the file currently exists, we can say the filename is Cars and the directory is C:Data. Finally I do not wish to stop the users from saving their own version with save or save as.
Please review the following and advise the one Best Connection needs to save in Excel 5.0/95 format without prompting me about incompatability issues

I use excel 2002 but some of my office are on 97, i want to add a small workbook open event code which works for me but debugs for the others?? The code is basically, go to a tab, on that tab and that range sort..
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've developed a little software using Excel Macros & VB. To prevent people from accesing the code I protected the code blocking it from visualization. It seems not enough as an acquaintance of a friend cracked it in 25 minutes. Or so he says. So I'd like to know if there is a better way to protect the font code.

Is there a way to disable 'Save as PDF or XPS' with the macro? I have tried disabling 'Save as' with the below VBA code but it does not disable 'Save as PDF or XPS'.
VB:
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal SaveAsUI As Boolean, Cancel As Boolean)
If SaveAsUI Then
MsgBox "Save As is disabled", vbInformation
Cancel = True
End If
End Sub
Also I have a macro which saves the excel report in a PDF format with 'Save as PDF or XPS' utility. I would like to enable 'Save as PDF or XPS' when this macro is started and again disable 'Save as PDF or XPS' when this macro stops.
I have a button on excel form. I need to disable it once user has clicked on it.
I couldnt find name of it on the form anywhere or how to refer it to in the macro.
Excel 2003 - VBA - How do you detect when a row has been deleted in VBA? Better yet, how do you detect when a row is about to be deleted? I also would like to know the row number. I do not see an event handler that will inform me of the "Delete" event.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to disable cut and drag only in a workbook. The idea is to avoid formula reference errors when unlocked cells are cut and pasted or dragged. I can find many macros online but none that do only these two things.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a way that I can ensure that Zero Values are never shown, either when you open a new workbook or open a new window. Preferable, one which I can install for any user who needs this. (such as via Book.XLA I think) but AutoExec is fine as long as it is alwys loaded.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got an excel sheet from a guy at work who decided to lock the entire document down so I can't do anything with it. Virtually all the ribbon options are greyed out, there isn't anything locking it in the code, I've tried checking the save as "read-only" option and it's not there. How I can actually save this is editable? I've looked in windows explorer and it's not read-only in there either. I tried save-as and even tried making it an XLS instead of an XLSM and it still won't let me edit it
