My Question: how would i be able to render a dynamic drop down tree in the following format (see attachment): look at the left Rich Graphics folder example:
http://javascript.cooldev.com/script...mos/superdemo/
I am trying to do a dynamic drop down. The left one is working fine, where as the right one is not. (see example) I just cannot get a complete list, even though I am using the same formula.
I have created a spreadsheet that has many dynamic ranges, one of which is a list of vendors that my company uses, named "Company". This range is in a spreadsheet labeled "Analysis Search". From this list and on another worksheet, I have created a drop down list via data validation where the user inputs the vendor, and should the vendor not be in the dynamic range, a prompt will appear and warn the user that the name of the vendor is not already in the dynamic range and to add it once the entry is complete.
What I am looking to do is for Excel to automatically add the vendor to the dynamic range instead of having the user have to input the vendor. Also, I have used VB to have the range automatically sort alphabetically, so I would like to keep that functionality if possible. Is something like this feasible in Excel?
getting a macro to dynamically assign a drop down box to a list of numbers?
Specifically, I have a list of numbers in column A, and I would like to dynamically (because the size of the column differs every time) add drop down boxes in column B so that a user may select different values in column A, simply by changing the drop down box value to "Selected"
This would this make it easier for collect all the "Selected" values and perform further analyses upon them.
I have a large list of items and have set up some dynamic drop down lists but need to know if/how to make these lists only show each item once and therefore ignore any duplicates.
I am trying to send my field reps a spreadsheet that will allow them to pick the proper location for each building. The problem I am having is that there are ~45,000 buildings, each with anywhere from 1 - 92 locations. Here is how my spreadsheet is set up.
Sheet 1 Column A has the Buildings THIS IS NOT A DROP DOWN. THIS IS A STATIC CELL PRE FILLED OUT Column B is where I want the drop down to be available for the rep to pick the location
Sheet 2 Column A has a list of the buildings Column B has a list of the locations
I understand that normally I would need to create a named range for each building and its locations. However, there are more Buildings than columns in Excel. Is there a way I can do this using Index/Match, or Offset, or Indirect? I have a sample spreadsheet that can be found in my dropbox account using this link [URL]
I purchased the Excel Hacks book, and when attempting to do hack #53 with a drop down list, I can not get it to work. I do exactly what the book says to do, however, my chart and my drop down list are not linked together, and when I change a name in the drop down list, the information on the chart does not change.
I have a dynamic named range which allows me to have an automatically growing drop down list in B1 as more cities are added in column A. however, my workbook will have N/A errors to begin with before cities are added.
is there a way for my drop down list in B1 not to include the N/A errors and only the cities? of course when the next N/A error turns into a city, i would like the B1 drop down list to recognise this and include it.
I've been trying my best to create a directory structure using VBA and Excel, and have run out of patience on how best to do this. My goal is to create a directory tree containing 2 levels. The 1st level (Main Folders) will be named from data in Column A of an Excel Spreadsheet, the 2nd level (Subfolders) will be created from data in Columns B, C and D of the spreadsheet. I've been using the following code with success, but don't know how to create subdirectories:
Sub StartHere() Dim rCell As Range, rRng As Range Set rRng = Sheet1.Range("A1:A20") For Each rCell In rRng.Cells CreateFolders rCell.Value, "C: est" Next rCell End Sub
Sub CreateFolders(sSubFolder As String, ByVal sBaseFolder As String) Dim sTemp As String 'Make sure the base folder is ready to have a sub folder 'tacked on to the end If Right(sBaseFolder, 1) <> "" Then sBaseFolder = sBaseFolder & "" End If............
I am trying to create a sheet to resemble tree structure of rows. That is by default all the parent rows must be visible and click of + sign, the row should expand to show its child rows which in turn can have child rows but appear collapsed. When I choose two rows and click on Group and select rows, I see a grouping but when I try to collapse using - sign, both 2 rows gets disabled. I want to make the first row as parent and second row as child. How do I do it?
I want to create sections in excel exactely like below. I need to show user how many types systems are available and in each type how many config systems available.
I am trying to build a cup tree that automaticly move players over to the next round if they are first or second in their group of 4. What happens when first person have a result of lets say 33 and 2nd and 3d person have a result of 35 each and the 4th person 37? First person is easy but then there are 2 persons with the sam result and they play sudden death and we put in a 1 in the sd column for the winner and a 2 for the loser of the sudden death.
How do I make my formula figure that if they had the same result go look at the sd column?
Another thing is that of the 2 players advancing they have to be placed in the same order in next round, how can I achieve that?
If you look in column I row 19-22 there are players in the wrong order because the player with the better result goes in first. It should be this order: 9 11 15 16 instead. (if you are ahead in the previous round you will be ahead in the next round)
Another problem I noticed now is that when 2 players has the same lowest score the first player takes both spots as it is now and that doesn't work in real. You see what I mean if you look at player 1 in round 1 and 2 (R1 & R2), in this case it should have been players 1 2 6 and 7 moving on to round 2 and not 1 1 6 7 as it is at the moment.
(Rank is their rank from the qulification rounds where the first 4 is seeded and the rest is drawn into 1 group a time)

I have a data validation list in B31 "material type" that has 4 options (Adhesives, Metals, Backer Board, & Grout). Based on that selection F31 needs to display a list of "descriptions" that match that "material type". The list is in book "database.xls!sheet3". Material type list is Column A, Description is in Column E. I know that you can't link to an unopened workbook in data validation, & I've been trying to code it, but again the lack of expierence & knowledge has frustrated me again :P This code to get the info for the file to open
Private Function GetValue(path, file, sheet, ref) Dim arg As String If Right(path, 1) <> "" Then path = path & "" If Dir(path & file) = "" Then GetValue = "File Not Found" Exit Function End If arg = "'" & path & "[" & file & "]" & sheet & "'!" & _ Range(ref).Range("A1").Address(, , xlR1C1) GetValue = ExecuteExcel4Macro(arg) End Function....................
I have an organizational hierarchy dump in excel from an SAP ERP system. The format of that file is less than user friendly and I need to convert it to a flat file format so I can do pivots against it or possibly dump it into access database. The background is as follows (I am also attaching a file).
The organizational structure is multinoded/layered. Top most node is a company second from the top are divisions designated by 02DivName each 02DivName has multiple nodes assigned to it. The lowest level of the hierarchy is a department, always a numeric, always same length.
That's where it gets interesting. Each node/layer under 02DivName has a technical description and text description they get broken up into two different columns when SAP dumps them. Technical descriptions can be used to identify where in hierarchy the node falls(parent/child). For example 02A is a child of 02DivName 02B is a child of 02A 02C is a child of 02B and of course all of them roll up to 02DivName. There could be multiple 02A's under Div Name and their respective 02B's, C's D's would roll under them. So on export file it would be graphically represented 02A1 blank blank blank blank in that column and then change to 02A2 their respective 02B's would be in different columns works the same for C's and D's.
Here is another wrinkle the department is not always assigned to the lowest level grouping. I could have 02DivName dept, dept, dept, and then 02A group assigned to 02DivName. The department numbers end up on export file in the same column as fre form text descriptions for the nodes. It is staggered format.
The object of what I'm trying to do is basically convert the gibberish described above into flat file format via a vba script. I need to have node1 node1 desc node2, node2 desc, etc etc in columns the last column being a department number. So if for example I have a dept assigned directly to 02DivName directly all the other node descriptions will be blank if it's node 02A then the node1 and node2 will be populated. Any help will be appreciated. And here is the file with excel spreadsheet
I have 4 sheets: 1 called main 1 called states 1 called counties 1 called people
On "main" I have 1 drop down box and 1 cell:
the drop down lists the states from "states" sheet the cell, which i would like to have as a drop down is supposed to be listing the counties in the state selected from the 1st drop down. right now it is setting the value to TRUE for testing purposes.
then when the county is selected, it will display the people in that county listed in "people". So far I can only get the 1st drop down to list the states. that's the easy part. i need to getting the counties to list in another drop down based on what state is selected.
Im a fairly basic VBA user who has just purchased the code for J-Walk's Enhanced Data Form.
On other threads in this forum I have noticed a lot of people asking how to make the contents of one drop-down box dependant on the selection in another. I am trying to do the same thing but with the criteria section of the EDF form.
Is this possible? What does give me hope is that a simple Autofilter - whilst not as aesthetically pleasing, does the job well.
Currently I have columns fixed or assigned to the names of insurance providers/companies.
In each column below the name of the Insurance Company, a combobox containing the plans that company offers. Choose a plan, and the rest of the column is filled in using vlookup.
Now to save space, IE opposed to having 13-15 columns one assigned to each Insurance Company/Provider. I am looking to have only 3-5 columns with a first initial combobox in which one chooses the Name of the Company/Provider, and in turn populate the original combobox and vlookup functionality I already have built in.
Here is an example of what I am working with. [url]
I'm trying to create a drop down list which returns values based on what has been selected in the previous drop down list in the adjacent cell, e.g. if 'Apples' is selected in the previous cell then you should only be able to select from 'Gala, Granny Smith', or if 'Oranges' is selected you should only be able to select 'Seville, Blood Orange'. Is there a formula which would do this, or can I use a pivot table somehow? I'm totally stumped.
In the attached example I am trying to get the selections from one drop down to gnerate available selections in the next. The first drop down is the door style. This then needs to generate the possible drop downs in wood species. This then needs to generate the possible drop down in available stains. this then needs to generate the related door factor....
I need to have a drop down list which displays a different set of values depending upon the value selected by a previous drop down list. ie. (drop down box 1)= x, y, z. (drop down box 2)= either x1, x2, x3, or y1, y2, y3, or z1, z2, z3. I can produce a single drop down box thats not a problem but linking several drop down boxes is beyond me .
I have a range which will change in size & in content, & I want this to be a Named Range at whatever size it is.
Reason I want to is because I want to make a Validation List with this dynamic range. I also want a Validation list which lists the content of 2 or more dynamic ranges which may or may not be on the same worksheet - is this possible?
i.e. First dynamic range: called "Milestones" at A11 Second dynamic range: called "Activities" at A25 & make a Validation list that will list content of both
I would like to replace the blue bit of this Dynamic Named Range (DNR) with an INDIRECT formula in order to modify the starting point for the DNR: =OFFSET(DATA!$C$60,0,0,20,1). Unfortunately, I can’t seem to get my INDIRECT formula to work in order to use it to replace the blue bit above: INDIRECT("'"DATA"'!&ADDRESS(MATCH('SHEET1'!AC8,DATA_Date,0)+22,3)"). The orange bit of the formula above returns a value of 60, therefore the ADDRESS formula should return $C$60, that can then feed into the INDIRECT and act as the equivalent of DATA!$C$60. But it doesn’t.
I have a question on the above but can't seem to find a solution. There are two ways that I can find for dealing with dynamic lists via data validation:-
1) Offset and match, cavet being the data must be sorted a-z 2) Have lists for each potential selection
Is there any way to get around 1 without having to do 2? E.g. Got two columns of data, unsorted, and a list from which the user can choose from. The user chooses from the list in first cell, in the second cell require the dynamic list to return all the values accordingly?
