Excel 2010 :: Can't Save Custom Table Style Format So That It Is Available Next Time When Open Workbook
Jun 10, 2013
I'm a fan of the Excel 2010 table styles, but can't figure one thing out. When I create a table in excel (Ctrl+T), I like to reformat it with a new defined style. When I save the style, I can use it while I'm in that instance of excel, but when I close and reopen excel, the style is gone. How to save the custom formats to they are always available?

I have windows 7 and excel 2010 and am using a macro that opens up a csv file(I think) of daily reports into Excel and then automatically delineates it and formats it how I want it. I will be using this to save a new file every day for the reports from the previous day and want to include at the end of that macro a way to prompt the user to "save as" so that each day they can run the macro and enter in the date and save that report for further use. I am wondering what VBA code I could use at the end of the macro code to prompt the Save As box and if I could already have the save us set up in the following folder... "W:Daily to Fortis Excel2014(the user will put in the date here)".
I've been looking around sites and trying to figure it out. I need the file format to be the same as when you save as "Excel Workbook". I was trying to use the Saveas (filename) function and could get it to save every time as a specific file name in that location but when I run it the next day it has the same name and saves over itself. So I need the user to be able to put in todays date as the filename to create a new one every day.

I just got a new computer and upgraded to Excel 2010 and Windows 7. When I try to open a workbook in Excel 2010, my saved file paths on the left side of the screen are gone. I want to put them back in there.
In Excel 2007 running Windows XP, I would just right click in the left side menu and click "add" and now that's no longer an option.

Is there a way to convert all files in folder, in this case, xml in excel format to xls without open them?
I recorded the macro below, but this needs to "Open" and "SaveAs" the current file in folder and there are a few thousands of xml files in folder.
I was wondering if through some ADO or VBA code this can be done without open the files in order to save resources and get the work done faster?
Code:
Sub Convert_XML_to_XLS()
Workbooks.Open Filename:="C:MyPathInputFile.xml"
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:="C:MyPathInputFile.xlsx" _
, FileFormat:=xlOpenXMLWorkbook, CreateBackup:=False '
End Sub

Windows 8.1 Excel 2010, I open a Template, make some changes in the template then I want to save the modified template as a Template ".xltm" under a new name. I'm using the following code for the new workbook name (which works except for the file extension);
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:=ChkLst_TEXT_path & Application.PathSeparator _
& "NewChkLsts" & Application.PathSeparator & ShtNm
By default it saves the workbook as ".xlsm". How can I get it to save it as ".xltm"?

I have the below macro steps to save an excel sheet in PDF format in "C:UsersxxxxxDesktop" and with the name of the workbook.
But when the PDF report gets published in c: drive , the PDF file name has .xlsm added to it instead of just the file name.
I would like to know how to publish the file in PDF format just in the name of the workbook.
Find the below macro steps:
Sub Docsave()
Dim docname As String
docname = ThisWorkbook.Name
ActiveSheet.ExportAsFixedFormat Type:=xlTypePDF, Filename:="C:UsersxxxxxDesktop" & docname, Quality:=xlQualityStandard, _
IncludeDocProperties:=False, IgnorePrintAreas:=False, OpenAfterPublish:= _
True
End Sub

I have a macro that opens all workbooks from one directory and runs a macro for each workbook to clean up the data. I cannot figure out how to take all those open workbooks and save them to another directory and close the workbook. Also, I do not want the macro workbook (xlsm) to save. I only want it to close. I am working in 2007 Excel.

I am using Excel 2010 and late binding to generate reports. The sheets are blank and unused. I have the UserForm being opened on Workbook_Open and the actual VBA for doing the work in a separate macro in the workbook. All the posts I have found are dealing with accessing cells from the UserForm and I haven't found any dealing with connecting a macro to the UserForm output.
My question is this: I want to return from the UserForm the flags of which reports to run to the (unopened) macro containing the code to do so. How do I open the macro and pass the variables to it?
The UserForm is creatively called "SelectionForm" and the macro is called "DailyFTP" with a Main sub as the entry. I know I can use the code under to capture the radio button and checkbox choices. I have other variables like the names of files set as global variables in the DailyFTP macro. The macro doesn't exist until SelectionForm opens it, so they must be set after the macro is in memory.

Using Excel 2010 - I have a large workbook with multiple worksheets - been using it succesfully every day for a long time. All of a sudden every empty cell, and any cell not specifically formated in every worksheet has a default cell format of Time. Any new workbook created is OK.. defaults to 'General' - But, if I add a new blank worksheet to this particular workbook it defaults to 'Time' format. How did the default cell format for this workbook become set to 'Time' from 'General' and how do i fix it?

I have the following code below for a timer in a userform. Right now it is configured to start when a button is clicked. I would like to have it automatically start the timer after the workbook is open for more than 5 minutes but so far have been unable to get it to do so. I have tried putting the code in the workbook module but it still won't run. It also has a button to reset the timer if they need more time in the workbook and also a button for them to save and close the workbook if they are finished. I'm running Excel 2007.
VB:
Private Sub CBReset_Click()
Dim T, E, M As Double, S As Double
T = Timer
Do
E = CDbl(Time) * 24 * 60 * 60 - T 'elapsed time in secs
M = AllowedTime - 1 - Int(E / 60)
S = 59 - Round((E / 60 - Int(E / 60)) * 60, 0)
[Code] .....

Created a new tab and menu buttons on the Ribbon in Excel in 3 separate .xltm files. Everything worked great through all of the development and testing, but when we went live we got reports of a bug. Here is what is happening...
User opens the template file and immediately saves it as a .xlsm file with a new name in a new location. The user then does various amounts of work in the file. When the user needs to use one of the tools on the custom tab, it is as if the buttons are inactive or not associated with any actions. The tab and buttons are all visible, the animation of the button being pressed works when any of the buttons are clicked, but nothing happens. The user can close and reopen the file and the ribbon buttons will work correctly, but not until they close and reopen.
Upon digging into the problem, we found that if the user clicks on the custom tab before they save the file, all of the buttons will work correctly after the save. But if the tab is not activated before the save, they dont work until a close and reopen.
The XML code is good because if I place it in a add on file (.xlam) and trigger it from the main file, there is no problem. But this is not a good solution since the add on file needs to be located in the same file that the main file is run from which can be any number of places.

From what I find in Excel and from what the Microsoft website instructs, there isn't an obvious way to save a custom number format without having to create a template to store it.
Has a way been discovered to convince Excel to save a new number format and include it in the drop down selection for any workbook?

I am experiencing odd behavior with Excel (v. 14). When a spreadsheet is opened, format setting of almost all cells in the workbook have changed to a custom code that reads "[$-409]0%". AFAIK the first part is not even a valid tag.
Because the underlying data is not changed, I can just select cells and reset formatting to "Number" or "General" and everything's fine. However, I'd like to get to to the root of the problem.
The problem occurs with only some workbooks. I should mention that the workbooks are circulated in different language versions of Excel, which may contribute to the problem.

i have to open this file update refresh and save as this file, which i am doing via vba.
however the challenge for me here is though i set xl calculation to manual at the begining and xl calculation to automatic at the end. Though i used this code, its taking close to 5 mins to complete this via Vba.
how or what is the alternate way to reduce.

I often make templates of forms for weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, etc., forms for others to use and I tell them to be sure to use Save As... with a new name in order to keep the original form intact. We do not have a common location for templates here. I have tried a Workbook_open() macro to give them a reminder message, but the macro gets saved with the new file, which asks them again to use Save As..., which they shouldn't do.
Is there a way to delete the macro from the new file? Or some other method to acheive the goal?

I know that the line in my code Worksheets.Copy is NOT what I need to have to make this work, but with it it's the closest I could get to what I want.
I want the user to be able to click the SAVE command button, be allowed to either accept or change the default save options, save the current workbook and then go right back to the form that has the SAVE command button. Sounds simple, I know, but when you don't know the right commands to save the WORKBOOK, not just the WORKSHEETS, it becomes a P.I.A.
I know there's a lot there, but here's my code, which is just a slightly altered version of the code by Ron de Bruin:
Private Sub SaveData_Click()
'If no date has been selected then don't allow SAVE
If PubDateLabel.Caption = "" Then
MsgBox "Publication Date not set. You must select a date before saving.", vbCritical, "No Publication Date!"
Exit Sub
End If

I have a large Excel 2007 file, around 60.000KB. 54.000KB are due to one of the worksheets where I have 8760rows x 160columns with data. The calculation time is not a problem, it is very fast, it only takes 2/3 seconds. The problem is when I open or save the file, it takes around 2 minutes... it is not too much, but it becomes too long when one has to open and save it several times. It there any trick to decrease the time when openning or saving an excel file??
