Excel 2010 :: Percentage Difference From Calculated Or Max Dose?
May 11, 2014
Excel 2010 - Solver will NOT work with whole numbers and that is what I need (only whole numbers, i.e whole vials being used). So this is a drug/inventory problem. The drug is dosed as 25, 35,or 50 units/kg. Also a Max dose is reached with 100 kg. (this I can do). The trick is we want to use whole vial sizes and the vials come with varying amount of drug per vial (480-620 units/vial). We can enter our existing Inventory to get the exact units/vial and number of vials on hand. Now I need to figure out the best combination of vials in Inventory to use to get the closest to the dose needed. If Max dose is reached then the MOST we can go over the max dose is 5%. I'd like to see the percentage difference from the calculated or Max dose.

I'm having an issue getting the correct results from a calculated field in a pivot table in Excel 2007.
In column A I have "Business Name", in B I have a sum of the amount of lines a customer has, and C is a MAX of the number of employees the customer has at their location.
In one example I have a business with sum 50 lines and max 30 employees but when I try to make the calculated field 50/30 (should equal 166%) i get 9.2% instead.
The reason appears to be because there are 18 types of lines the customer has and 18 x max 30 = 540 and 50/540 is 9.2%. In the attached example it's all the same business location so the total number of employees (30) is the same for each row and each row in the raw data is a set of lines with similar features.
I attached an example. CalcFieldProblem.xlsx

Any way to create a calculated field in an Excel 2010 pivot table that will find all the Transaction Types (Report Filter) with "transportation" in them and make the field Quantity 0 and leave all other quantities the same? I do not want the quantity of transportation added in twice and may not have the flexibility of adding a column to the raw data.
I used the formula below in a calculated field and it does not match the values using the added column to the data file.
=IF(ISERROR(SEARCH("*transportation*",'Transaction Type')),Quantity, 0)
I am trying to get the sum of Quantity field to equal the AdjQuantity field using a calculated Pivot field and not add a new column to the data.

I have a pivot table and I created a formula that says:
=jobCompletedDate-jobCreatedDate
and so for example, I have
3/31/2014 7:21AM - 3/31/2014 6:33AM
and that difference is giving me: .03367
I'm not sure what this value represents......the difference in dates, converted to ??

Im looking to create a bar chart in Excel 2010 where the totalnumber of widgets is 33 and the number produced so far is 11. The bar chart would be a single bar that represents the percentage complete (33%) with the chart maximum range being 100% which would represent the number 38.
Ive included a mock up example of what the data and chart would look like

I have row 2 formatted as a fraction and row 1 formatted as percentage.
I am looking for way to return the percentage of row 2 in row 1. I.E. If i have 3/4 in a2, I want it to return 75% in a1. I have figured a formula to return a percentage for numbers with only 1 item to the left of the division sign (i.e., 3/4). That correctly returns 75%. I am struggling with working a formula to also return larger numbers (e.g. 12/15).
I'm using excel 2010......

I would like to figure out a formula that will calculate what percentage of a column is filled based on the total number of rows.
For instance if I have Column K and that will have delayed savings by sales pursuit, I want to be able to calculate the percentage of what is being delayed from a total number of pursuits (basically the count of rows in column A). Ideally this would be a dynamic range (offset).
Ex. Say I have 25 rows in column A, but I only have 2 rows in column K filled. How can I calculate that there is a 8% (2/25) delay?

As you can see in the attached file, I have a column of classes , a columns of related revenues and the total for each class. I have to create a column, next to these, where I can create the percentage with respect the sum of each class (as you can see by the formula). My problem is I am not able to say vba to find the totals and to create the percentage just with the revenues related to that total.
p.s: I have to work on excel2010.

I have a pivot table listing different company names in the first column under 'row labels' and there are calculated fields, a count and an average in columns B and C respectively. Is it possible to insert another field in column D that calculates the difference between values in column B and C (even though they are calculated fields themselves)?

I am trying to create a formula that can work out the % difference between two values. The formula I am using is:
=(B1-A1)/ABS(A1)
So, where
A1=1, B1=2, = 100%
A1=-1, B1=2, = 300%
This seems to work perfectly, apart from where there are zero numbers involved. The answers I want to have are as follows:
A1=0, B1=0, = 0%
A1=0, B1=-1, = -100%
A1=0, B1=1, = 100%
A1=-1, B1=0, = 100%
A1=1, B1=0, = -100%

I was wonder if there is anyway in excel to do the following. I have a table that shows %'s,,, and I have formatted it to show 1 decimal place. Is there anyway to do it so that if the % is a whole number, IE 100% it shows just 100% and not 100.0%
So; basically, all %'s that aren't whole numbers will show 1 decimal place,, whole numbers to show NO decimal place.
I can see in excel a custom formatting under the Number tab,, but if this is where you do /can do it,, I'm not sure how.

Formula "(Cell-Cell)/ABS(Cell)"
When calculating percentage difference do I always subtract the smaller number/cell from the larger number/cell, then divide by the smaller number/cell or vice versa? Maybe I am over thinking it, but it is confusing the heck out of me
I provided an example below to illustrate a spreadsheet I work on. The numbers go up and down. I want to know how I should go about setting up the formula. If I need to ensure the smaller number is always subtracted from the bigger number, it will require a lot of manual intervention on my part.
Row 3 is =(b2-b1)/ABS(b1)Row 4 is =(b2-b1)/ABS(b2)Row 5 is custom. I went through each cell and made sure the smaller number was being subtracted from the larger number, then divided by the smaller number

I have an excel file that linked to an external feed that receives stock prices in real time. on the file i have the stock name, the price paid and the current price. I would like to have a popup that shows up whenever a stock price has a 15% or higher return. I would like the popup to show the stock name. I realise that conditional formatting would highlight whatever is over 15%, but the workbook has multiple worksheets and I would like it to popup even when i am on another worksheet.

Using conditional formatting i am trying to write a formula that changes colour on the percentage difference of another cell.
An example would be if cell A1 contained a target of 5% in cell A2 would be an actual. If cell A2 is equal to A1 or better then it would be green. If cell A2 was within 10% less of A1 (i.e 4.5%-4.99%) then amber and red for the target minus 10% (i.e <4.49%)
I want to do this as a conditional formatting formula as the target figure will change but 10% difference will remain the same.

In looking for examples of business budgets I found a sample spreadsheet that used these two conditional statements:
A) to calculate the difference between the Budget and Actual numbers: =IF(OR(B10,A1), B1-A1,) where B1 is Actual $ and A1 is the budget $.
B) to calculate the percentage (+ or -) =IF(A1,C1/A1,) where A1 is, again the budget, and C1 is the result of the difference calculated in A) above.
What is the advantage of these conditional formulas over the more straight forward B1-A1 and C1/A1

Here's my example: We budgeted $15,000 (cell C38) for tuition reimbursement and YTD have already paid out $11,500 (cell B38).
I currently have the formula =100*B38/C38
This returns the answer $76.67. When I format the column to percentage, it the returns the answer 7666.67%.
How do I get this to read as 76.67%???

For Mac Excel 2011, though I think my question would apply to any modern version of Excel.
This is a little odd. I have a sheet where, for various reasons (see below ### if interested), I need to copy a hyperlink, replace a substring, and then return the new hyperlink (with old friendly text) to the original cell. (I actually have to do this with an arbitrarily-long column of links.) This was my plan of attack:
* Pull the URL from the hyperlink cell.
* Use FIND and RIGHT to strip out what I need and replace it
* Use HYPERLINK to build a new cell with the original friendly text and the new hyperlink.
* (Manually) copy this new link (really, a column of links) back to the original cell (really, column of cells).
Here's where it breaks down:
a) If I simply cut-and-paste, the formula used to pull the hyperlink becomes circular (as do several others), and Excel complains.
b) If I cut-and-paste-special (values only), I get just the friendly text, no link info. Likewise if I try to reference the "fixed" hyperlink.
The erroneous hyperlinks are in column K. My calculated correct hyperlinks are in column S. (There are similar errors and fixes in L and T, respectively.)

I believe that I am finally getting the hang of pivot tables and VBA ... pretty nice. Now for my latest frustration - calculated fields.
I have a pivot table created which compares two years of data. The problem seems to be that this data is from the same data field (PINSAL) even though it shows in two columns (year 2007 and year 2008).
1 - I need to subtract the 2007 figure (column C) from the 2008 figure (column D) in a calculated field called DollarVariance
2 - I need to divide DollarVariance into the 2007 figure to create a calculated field called PercentVariance
This seems easy to do if I had two different variables used to create the 2007 and the 2008 data but it is the same datafield. Can I use column letter? Can I use the column name assigned by the pivot routine (12 - 2007 and 12 - 2008)?

I have a set of sales data and need to create a run rate which is simply = Total Sales/Selling Day
Selling day changes most days.
I put the calculation into my pivot data but it's summing up, (instead on 12 I get 720) so I changed this to Average so I get the right figure in the Pivot but when I then use this field, it doesn't use the Average amount, it uses the summed figure.
So what I need is Total Sales/X
X = Cell Reference
