Excel 2011 :: Change Default Formats Of Number Selections In Tool Bar?

Jul 28, 2012

In the toolbar there's a section titled "Number" which allows you to change cell formats with selections named General, Number, Accounting, Date, Time, etc. I want to permanently change some of their default formats.

For instance, currently when I select Number the default is -4000.00. I want to PERMANENTLY change its default to (4,000.00). How do I do this?

Date Change/format Tool

Aug 17, 2007

way the date are shown can be changed by the date format tool, provided the date was entered the correct way. I think we are missing each other. I think the way the date was entered (17.08.07) and converted to (17/08/07) was good. At first it was in text so one wouldnt have known whether it will be taken as yymmdd, ddmmyy, mmddyy etc. well it end up like as 17(yy), 08(mm), 07(dd) instead as 17(dd), 08(mm) and 07(yy). My Q now is is there a way (formula) to swap these orders around...?

Excel 2011 :: Save As XLS File VBA On Mac OS X?

I am running Excel 2011 on Mac OS X. I am trying to save a file (.xls) to a server (Autumn). I have tried several configurations to try to get the file saved properly. File name is "Testfile.xls"

2. folderpath = "Tim:TestFolder:" & filename Activeworkbook.Saveas filename:=folderpath

3 Activeworkbook.Saveas folderpath

When I try this, I get an Error 1004 indicating that it cannot find the file. Do I need to eliminate the .xls and then specify that when I do the saveas?

Make Chart That Will Constantly Change As Different Selections Made By Person?

Jun 18, 2014

I have created a spreadsheet which uses data validation to allow a user to select a company, start Date, end date, and projected months in order to output different figures. I have attached a spreadsheet to this post in case that was hard to understand.

Since there is data validation, indexing, and matching going on, as different selections are made, various tables change as a result. What I mean as you open the example sheet and start messing around with the data validation boxes.

The problem I am encountering now, is creating a chart that will also keep changing as the user changes their selections in the data validation boxes. I am unsure if this is even possible, but I figured it was worth a shot to ask. On the example sheet, I have included a graph similar to the one I want, but it only contains data in a certain range of cells, rather than dynamically changing to accommodate whatever data is outputted.

Here is what I am looking for in the graph:

1. Whatever dates are selected by the user in the data validation boxes, along with the projected dates will be on the x-axis.

2. The PMPM figures associated with the selected dates, and the projected dates on the y-axis.

3. Ability to make different selections from the data validation boxes and still have a dynamic chart that keeps updating itself.

Change Date Formats

May 28, 2009

I have a userform which allows data to be entered onto a worksheet. One of the fields (a textbox with the standard calendar control) is the date. When the transaction saves, it correctly saves the date as dd/mm/yyyy using

ActiveCell.Value = TxtDate.Text

I also have a form which allows the user to amend a transaction by loading the data onto the form, amend it and save it back to the worksheet.

The problem is that when it picks up the data and re-saves it, it's resaved in the format mm/dd/yyyy which is a problem because I use the month as one of the categories that users can filter the data by.

I also have the following line immediately after each time the data is saved from the form to the worksheet:

Selection.NumberFormat = "dd/mm/yyyy;@"

Change The Date Formats

May 9, 2008

I am importing data (using filestream) from txt files with comma delimited values. When I import dates into General type cells it turns a date of dd/mm/yyyy into mm/dd/yyyy only if the date makes sense.

I would like it to import dd/mm/yyyy as dd/mm/yyyy.

I am also interested to know how Excel/VBA deals with dates coming from various sources, what quirks or mode of thought it follows.

Excel 2011 :: Copying Calculated Hyperlink

Sep 26, 2013

For Mac Excel 2011, though I think my question would apply to any modern version of Excel.

This is a little odd. I have a sheet where, for various reasons (see below ### if interested), I need to copy a hyperlink, replace a substring, and then return the new hyperlink (with old friendly text) to the original cell. (I actually have to do this with an arbitrarily-long column of links.) This was my plan of attack:

* Pull the URL from the hyperlink cell.
* Use FIND and RIGHT to strip out what I need and replace it
* Use HYPERLINK to build a new cell with the original friendly text and the new hyperlink.
* (Manually) copy this new link (really, a column of links) back to the original cell (really, column of cells).

Here's where it breaks down:

a) If I simply cut-and-paste, the formula used to pull the hyperlink becomes circular (as do several others), and Excel complains.
b) If I cut-and-paste-special (values only), I get just the friendly text, no link info. Likewise if I try to reference the "fixed" hyperlink.

The erroneous hyperlinks are in column K. My calculated correct hyperlinks are in column S. (There are similar errors and fixes in L and T, respectively.)

Excel 2011 :: Loop Through All CSV Files In A Folder

Nov 23, 2011

I want to open all csv files in a folder and just copy and paste some columns into another file. I am having a bit of trouble with the following code which can be found at ozgrid and I have modified slightly so it looks in the current directory instead of a fixed path...

Code:
Sub RunCodeOnAllFiles()
Dim lCount As Long
Dim MyDir as string

[Code]....

For starters, if I don't use on error resume next I get a runtime error 445: object doesn't support this action. So when I use the on error resume next, then by the time it gets to the foundfiles line, there are no variables set, so on the next line (workbooks.open) nothing happens.

Is there an easier (more up to date?) method to open all csv files (or excel files) in a folder?

Excel 2011 :: Using Macros To Export / Archive

May 2, 2013

I'm using Excel 2011 on a MacBook Pro. Here's my situation:

I'm running a monthly budget report that's got three spreadsheets within the workbook. Spreadsheet #1 is summary sheet with a few pivot tables. Spreadsheet #2 is the data sheet, where all of the information is entered, and is what feeds the pivot tables on Spreadsheet #1. Spreadsheet #3 is just a list page that populates the drop-down list on the second sheet.

As this is a monthly budget report, I'd like to find some way to archive the first spreadsheet (the summary sheet) every month. Ideally, I'd like to be able to create a macro-driven button that, when clicked, does the following actions:

1) Creates a new spreadsheet, with each click, named for the current month and year.
2) Archives the exact contents of Spreadsheet #1 by making an exact copy of its current contents, and places this copy into the newly created spreadsheet.
3) Clears the data from Spreadsheet #1 AND Spreadsheet #2.

To summarize, I'm trying to use a button that, when clicked, runs a macro that archives the current month's data into a new spreadsheet, and then clears the data from Sheets #1 and #2 so that I can start each month with a clean slate. If there's a way to only clear the data from certain cell ranges (as opposed to a complete wipe of the sheet), that would be even better.

Change Worksheet Formats From VBA Userform?

Dec 11, 2013

I have a hidden worksheet (in my add-in) where I store various configuration options for my processing. Among these are some cell formats that I apply to a target worksheet for the user to reformat their sheet.

I want to give the user the option to change some of these formats (font name, size, color, interior color). Is there a way to use a userform textbox to let the user format the text and fill options, or how would you recommend I do this?

I want to be able to store these options in my hidden config sheet so they can be applied every time, but do not want to unprotect the user worksheet for them to make the changes there.

Change Generated WorkSheets Name And Formats?

May 3, 2014

I have a file here that already has macros in it. The file is basically a excel document generator. When you click create sku, the document will generate multiple documents based on the user inputs.

1) In the generated documents the original "generator" file creates, I need generated files to have column B and D formatted to TEXT, currently all the generated files are formatted to general. (This code is in module 1, line 84 col 34.)

2) The other problem is I need to append the value in Cell N1 in the "sku data entry" sheet to be appended to the generated file names. (this part of the code is is in module 1, line 150 col 28.)

I was unable to attach my file to this thread because it was to big. however I copied the module where I think the code is causing problems:

Sub procData()
' Starting point for read/extract process
Cells(4, 6).Select ' Range = F4 (row 4, col 6)
For x = 6 To 52 Step 2 ' col F to col AZ
