External Web Data Query Fails To Insert Table Data?

Jul 9, 2014

An external data web query points to a web site that offers a foreign exchange rate calculator. In my browser, I selected the specific currency pair I need and used the resulting url in the web query. The "New Web Query" pane resolves the url correctly and allows me to select the table data I want (the little yellow arrow turns to a green check mark). However, when I hit "Import" and select the target cell, the only data returned is the parameters from the url and an error msg (This web query returned no data...). How do I get the query to pass the parameters to the website correctly?

Working Access Query Fails When Using Excel Data Connection

Sep 6, 2012

I've about 10 pivot tables in Excel that are populated via an External Query link to Access. In each case I have pre-written views with all the columns I need so that the query can just pick them up. Nine of the ten queries work perfectly, but one doesn't - reporting "Too Few Parameters - Expected 1" when I try and click on the "Return Data to Excel" in the import wizard.

I can see the column headers in Excel to select; so I'm assuming that it can parse the SQL but no results are being returned. Just to confirm though - results are returned (>8000 of them) in Access.

SQL code below:

Code:
SELECT z.pathdurationhours AS PathHours, Count(z.pathdurationhours) AS Paths,
Count(z.pathdurationhours)/(select count(*) from (select [activity date],
[conversion ID], count(*) from tbl_dfa_p2cdata group by [activity date], [conversion ID]) ) AS PCT
FROM (SELECT a.[activity date], a.[conversion ID], val( max(a.[interaction time])-min(a.[interaction time]) )
*24 AS PathDurationHours FROM tbl_dfa_P2CData AS a WHERE a.[interaction time]
"" GROUP BY a.[activity date], a.[conversion ID]) AS z
GROUP BY z.pathdurationhours;

External Data Query Based On Cell Content..

Nov 30, 2009

I have a sheet which is running a a query against an external source, and coming back with a list of client data. Each row is an investment with it's own unique InvestmentID number and a ClientID number. Each client has their own unique ClientID, however may have multiple investments (InvestmentID) linked to their ClientID (does that make any sense?!).

Anyway, the query I have returns ALL investments. I know how to manually change this to only bring back certain client(s), however I want to be able to have the users (who don't know what a query is, yet alone to how to use/edit one) enter a ClientID into say, cell B2 and have the query reflect that ClientID. If they have to click a button to run a macro after entering the ClientID, so be it (although it'd be great if it actioned once they hit "Enter").

I know this is possible because I've used something similar before (that someone else created!). What I don't know is... if I had multiple "entry cells", could I have the query filter by two (or more?) ClientIDs? That is, they enter the first ClientID in B2 and the second ClientID in C2, the query then returns all information relating to B2 or C2

Data Connection From Web / Web Query Returns Code Instead Of Selected Data Table

May 31, 2014

A web query I am trying to use to bring an online data table into my worksheet is broken. Now, instead of returning the data table nicely into my worksheet, it imports the code of the webpage, instead, and turns my worksheet into a mess.

The query used to work but there was recently an "upgrade" to the program that populates the web table and the query no longer works and just returns the code for the page, instead. I can see the html code for the table in all of the code it returns but I really need the table to import cleanly into excel.

I can't talk to the people who changed the web program.

Generate Table With Internal And External Data?

May 23, 2014

I have a workbook that need to call for external data (this is information from January till May) from another workbook to manage it. I get this external data as a Tabla_A that needs to be updated continually because the extenal workbooks is adding information constantly. However, now i have to incorporate a specific range of old information (information of December, 2013) before the external data in the same Table_A. This last information wont ever change and needs to be incorporated to analize de information from December till Now.

The problem is when I insert the December information as new arrows at the beginning of Table_A, later I update the table and this old data is remplaced automatic by the external Data range. For that reason, I'm wondering to know if there is some way to have one Table_A with a static range of arrows (december) and another range of arrows (January onwards) that is updatable.

Adding Columns To External Data Table?

Sep 11, 2013

I have a External Data Table, but I wanted to add a extra column to it for comments. I just need to be able to write down what I did with that particular order or things like that. I did make a column, but the problem is whenever I update the table the comments column fields stay static I mean they don't move with their row. So it ends up the comment belonging to a row is now on another row.

is there a way I can tell excel to move the cell with the record or something like that.

Automatic Refresh Of Pivot Table On Changes In External Data Source?

I know we can use Automatic refresh on open of workbook or time intervals after which to refresh .But i want the auto refresh to work even if the workbook is already open and there is no definite time interval after which the cube is likely to change.SO,by defining intervals for auto refresh i do not intend to waste time refreshing even if there is no change.

There are multiple pivot table reports and pivot charts connected to the same OLAP cube.

How To Insert Data Into Table

Apr 26, 2012

Im trying to find the best way to insert data into table.

source of data is workbook range and/or array the obvious one is

Code:

With Sheets(1).ListObjects(1).ListRows.Add.Range
Cells(1, 1).Value = xxx
Cells(1, 2).Value = yyy
Cells(1, 3).Value = zzzz
end with

but if its lots of data it could get very slow.

Q1. is there a way how to insert multiple records at once, something like

Code:

'does not work
With Sheets(1).ListObjects(1).ListRows.Add
.Range(Cells(1, 1), Cells(1, 3)).Value = arrXXX
End With

I found it faster to store data into array and then paste them

Code:

rw = ListObjects(1).HeaderRowRange.Row + ListObjects(1).ListRows.Count + 1
range(cells(rw,1),cells(rw,3).value = arrXXX

but I had issues with it especially if the destination table has some filters applied. I'd also prefer not to clear the filters during the sub

Q2. are there any other options that would be fast and reliable?

Protected Sheet - Macro To Unprotect, Refresh Sql Query & Re-protect Fails

Feb 21, 2007

I have a protected worksheet containing an SQL query. I have two cells on the worksheet unlocked so that users can enter fresh parameters to feed the query.
Because I have to use MS Query to interrogate our SQL server (current IT decree), the query won't support parameters directly when the query cannot be represented graphically - so I have to manually edit the sql command text and then refresh the query - or at least that was why I wrote the code below

The problem: My macro won't unprotect the sheet before it calls the SQL.it therefore won't update the sheet to detail the DSN, command text and number of parameters (latter should be 0) - info just used to verify queryit won't run the query / return the data as the sheet is still protected Comment: I have had to remove sheet protection in order to allow the sql to execute and return data. If protection is removed, the query does execute and return data ( changes in the "parameter" cell contents do cause the query to be correctly modified)
I could comment out the debug info but the query still doesn't return data if the sheet is protected.

Splitting Master Data Per Country Fails

Jan 3, 2014

I have a master data sheet with raw data in 19 columns and a variable amount of rows per week, but usually 50k+

The data contains entries from different Countries, and this I need to split up per country into different sheets.

Naming the different sheets with Country code like US, DK, UK, PL, etc...

Below code does that almost perfectly.

Only thing is that when there is no more data to split up, it creates the last sheet called "SheetXX" and since it can't name the sheet "nothing", I just get an error - Run-time error 1004 Method 'Name' of object'_worksheet' failed with the possibility to END or DEBUG. When going into DEBUG this line is highlighted. (wsNew.Name = c.Value)

I can just hit END and then proceed running my remaining macros, but I would prefer it not giving me an error in the first place. (My end goal is that all my macros (10ea) are run by the click of one button, and that is currently not possible, when this gives me an error).

I have tried the "Application.DisplayAlerts = False" without any luck, and also "On Error resume Next", maybe I have used it incorrectly. Do I have to search for a different way to split the data..??

VB:
Sub Split_data_pr_Country()
Dim ws1 As Worksheet
Dim wsNew As Worksheet
Dim rng As Range
Dim r As Integer
Dim c As Range
Set ws1 = sheets("Template")

List Data Validation Fails For Dynamic Ranges

Oct 1, 2009

I'm working on trying to maintain an inventory management sheet where i basically enter all the spare parts issued to vehicles. Now there are more than 700 parts dat form the components of a vehicle, so i decided to split this list into 12 spare groups(Gear, Engine, Body, Axle, etc etc..) and then based on wotever spare group being selected my sheet wud pull dat specific spare group list.
Since i've worked with indirect function before i thought this was a piece of cake!

However when i actually sat working on getting my sheet together i realised its not gonna be dat easy! Basically my spare group lists are a work in progress and so new items would/may be added to these lists as we start working on this sheet. So i decided to make them dynamic by using the offset function. But list validation fails when i use Indirect function on dynamic ranges!

Data Validation Fails With Named Range Of Array Of Constants?

Oct 27, 2013

I've set up a Named Range that refers to an array of constants, e.g. MyRange ={1,2,3,4,5}. This appears to be fine since I can output the named range to a range of cells in a row (e.g. A1:E1) and see 1,2,3,4,5 (one value in each column).

I'd like to use MyRange as the source for a Data Validation list in a cell.

Normally data validation list sources must be vertical, so I've set MyRange =TRANSPOSE({1,2,3,4,5}). This appears to be fine since I can output the named range to a range of cells in a column (e.g. A1:A5) and see 1,2,3,4,5 (one value in each row).

When I set MyRange as the source for data validation however, it resolves to an error.

why this setup doesn't work?

Match Numeric Data With Query Text Data

Oct 2, 2007

I have some code that goes through some data that is imported from a database via a query.
This has been working for a few years without a problem.

I lookup and employee number on my sheet to the employee number in the database table.

this is my code that checks the employee number.

Set rs = Worksheets("Employee")
If rs. Cells(r, 2) = cells(1,1) Then 'if employee number matches
......

The problem is that now the database application has adapted an alpha option (it used to be numeric only). In order for my code to work I have to change the employee number on my sheet by putting a ' in front of it.

Example if the number was 127 I need to enter '127 in the cells.

I have a few thousand in my data.

Can I add some code to my macro so I can still enter just the number in the cells?

How To Make A Data Miner Auto-refresh A Page That Fails To Load

Especially when there are over 50 pages to grab, the chances of one of the pages failing to load is VERY high, and this macro stops at the "Refreshbackground=False" command.

Is there a way to trigger a "refresh" once it fails?

Pivot Table Refresh With VBA Fails

(using manual refresh on the same pivot works just fine).

I have recorded a macro of the manual procedure, but it fails to work when used in a visual basic program:

ActiveSheet.PivotTables("PivotTable2").PivotCache.Refresh

I have tried using code presented elsewhere in these forums
eg http://www.ozgrid.com/VBA/pivot-table-refresh.htm

but the table stubbornly refuses to update.

The pivot's source data range is dynamic and works fine.

I think I'm missing something obvious or I have have a bug.
