File Backup To Different Folder Location Automatically Whenever Workbook Closed

Feb 10, 2014

1. A workbook is closed

2. In addition to the original workbook being saved, a copy of the workbook with the current date is also saved to the specified location of my choice.

For example

"C:UsersUSER1DesktopBackup Test as of 02-10-14"

3. If a copy of the workbook is already saved with today's date, then overwrite it automatically without prompting the user.

4. All the above happens without any user interaction.

Cell Value Of Closed Workbook With Concatenated File Path In Cells

Sep 24, 2007

I have a report that is collated from several other workbooks. The source workbooks follow the same naming convention throughout the year and so I have managed to concatenate the file path to bring through the text of the filepath and cell reference however cannot work out how to get the value of the cell. For example, I have the file path in A1, file name in B1 and sheet and cell referernce in C1.

I am using {=(A1&B1&C1)} which gives me R:CONFIDENTIALREPORT FOLDER[REPORT 24.09.07.xls]Sheet1!$D$1. To make matters slightly more difficult, the source reports would be closed. Is there an easy way or am I going to have to do this in VBA.

Make Auto Backup File When Opening

Apr 10, 2012

I want to make a macro that will generate a backup copy each time the Excel file is opened. I premade a backup and recorded the following macro, placing it in the sub here:

Code:
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
ChDir "C:Usersmy.selfDesktop"
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:= _
"C:Usersmy.selfDesktopDaily Backup.xlsm", _
FileFormat:=xlOpenXMLWorkbookMacroEnabled,_ CreateBackup:=False
ActiveWorkbook.Close
End Sub

names have been changed to protect the innocent. But now either putting in to repoen the original working excel or manually opening it puts me in an infinite loop of backing up. The probelm seems to be that to make a copy it is making the open workbook the backup. So two part question here:

1. Can I make a copy under the same name automatically when the file is opened while staying in the current one?
Example: open the Excel file "Working Copy", which makes a mirror file called "Backup Copy", but stay in "Working Copy".

2. From what I did manage to do, I notice every time it asks if I want to overwrite. I chose "Yes" when recording the macro but this doesn't seem to get captured. can I make it automatically yes without being asked?

Macro To Create Automatic Backup Of File

Oct 27, 2013

Is it possible to create a macro that automatically saves a backup of the excel document in another desired location?

I have this formula:

Sub backupbutton()
Dim fname
fname = "D:" & Format(Now, "dd mmm yy hh mm") & ".xlsm"
ThisWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:=fname
End Sub

But that just keeps on making multiple copies of the file rather than overwriting the backup in the D: location.

Also, that particular macro requires me to have to click on a button in order for it to work but I would prefer that it happens automatically when the original file is saved.

Save Backup Of Workbook Before Close

Dec 15, 2009

I call the macro below from a Workbook_BeforeClose sub; however, if the user has not saved changes before they hit the close then the Sub SaveFile runs and then after the backup save they are then asked do you want to save changes.

I initially had this sub run with Workbook_BeforeSave, but I don't really want to run this everytime the user selects save.

Any ideas on how to how the save changes first and then the backup?

Backup Copy Of Workbook Macro

Nov 28, 2013

I am using this code to create a backup copy of my workbook:

Code:
Sub DOUGHMON()Dim fname
fname = "C:UsersAndrewDesktopWEEKLY SALES REPORTS" & Format(Now, "dd mmm yy") & ".xlsm"
ThisWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:=fname
End Sub

The only problem with this code is that my current file gets closed and the backup is open. I'm not sure if that is exactly what happens, but when it is done the current file that is open is the copy, and I would like the original file to stay open.

Change (Browse For Folder) To Automatically Locate Sub Folder

Jul 23, 2012

I am creating a document for work that automatically generates hyperlinks to pdf files in a given sub folder. Currently I have a section of code that opens a window to choose the folder location.

Code:
'Prompt user to select a directory
Do
Problem = False
Set ShellApp = CreateObject("Shell.Application"). _
Browseforfolder(0, "Please choose a folder", 0, "c:\")

On Error Resume Next

The directory looks like this
Z:ClientProjectDRAWINGS-2 RECORD COPIESPDF

The xlsm file is stored in the DRAWINGS folder, and I need it to point to the PDF folder.
