View 6 RepliesI need to save an excel workbook when a "backup" button is pressed to a folder named "Backups". I want the name to be the "date" (09/07/2013) only and I want it to automatically overwrite anything previously saved for that day.
Book1.xlsm
1. A workbook is closed
2. In addition to the original workbook being saved, a copy of the workbook with the current date is also saved to the specified location of my choice.
For example
"C:UsersUSER1DesktopBackup Test as of 02-10-14"
3. If a copy of the workbook is already saved with today's date, then overwrite it automatically without prompting the user.
4. All the above happens without any user interaction.
I was able to find the coding that I needed for being able to have a backup of my file. So when I save a workbook and close I also get a backup copy in another folder that is dated. But I am having problems getting the code to work. Probably because I do not understand it correctly. Here it is.
Option Explicit
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)
ThisWorkbook.SaveCopyAs "C:Documents and SettingsTeacherDesktopTEST" & _
Format( Date, "yyyy-mm-dd") & " - " & ThisWorkbook. Name
End Sub
Where it has, ThisWorkbook.Name, do I put the name of the workbook? Not sure.
I have a shared document used by as many as 11 different people. right now I go into a document and save a copy each week in case one of them messes it up.
just curious if that can be done automatically.
I have up to 50 workbooks in one folder with data in a specific range. I also have one workbook which includes additional data, including conditional formatting and dropdowns. I need to copy the desired range from the first workbook in the source folder to the second workbook, then save the latter to my destination folder, using the same name as the first. I need to repeat this process for all workbooks in the source folder.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI know how to create a backup file for an excel file (General Options Menu in Save As dialog box, we have to tick the "Always create backup" check box). When we tick this option the backup file is created in the same folder. Can we specify the path were this backup file can be stored and updated each time when we save the main file.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a bill of materials for each job I do, I have multiple cut sheets in one spot on the network that must be individually copied and pasted into the project file for each job. I’m hoping to automate the process. Post extraction dump from AutoCAD, my text file goes into a excel file that the information is used by multiple tabs including a bill of materials.
From the bill of materials, I want to say “if C3>0 get file 10P0044HP2.DOC” . . . I want it to get the file and save to the individual project file. .. Possible I’m not so sure. But I’m not sure of where to start.
I call the macro below from a Workbook_BeforeClose sub; however, if the user has not saved changes before they hit the close then the Sub SaveFile runs and then after the backup save they are then asked do you want to save changes.
I initially had this sub run with Workbook_BeforeSave, but I don't really want to run this everytime the user selects save.
Any ideas on how to how the save changes first and then the backup?
I am looking for some code to auto save my workbook into this location every 15 min,
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a workbook which consists of 28 worksheets, all of which are protected, and are running on a code which automatically keeps all sheets at "unlocked cells" in the selection field. The sheet is also password protected for write-access…
I would like a Macro, or some sort of code, that when activated… it unprotects ALL sheets (which use same password), creates a folder on the users desktop, and saves a copy of the document in there… entitled "copy of {filename}" It must also remove the "write access" password…
Is there a macro that automatically saves a backup of your spreadsheet every week?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have alot of project folders on my harddrive.
All in format: I:/12345-costumer-projectname/
The five digits are unique for each project.
I make calculations for these projects using an excel file. In this excel I also type the projectnumber (cell J2)
Now i would like to make a button. When pressed, it checks the projectnumber cell J2, looksup the corresponding folder and saves the excelfile in PDF format in this folder.
I have found macro to find files in folders, but none which do the above.
I'm trying to create a sub that will save my worksheet to a tab delimited text file anytime there is a change in the worsheet data (all cells are linked to cells in other workbooks). I've figured out the command to save the file
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:= _
"C:Documents and SettingsChrisMy DocumentsBook1.txt", FileFormat:=xlText _
, CreateBackup:=False
but I'm not sure how to get a sub routine to start running when the file opens and to have it run continuously while open. I've found the command:
Application.Volatile
that will flag when any cells in my range are recomputed and run a function, but functions don't allow me to save the file.
I have an excel file that I use to track all my financial investments. The file is already set up with a query to retrieve stock prices when I refresh the document.
I would like to be able to open up the document, and store the closing price of the stock(s) with a date in the next column over. With this information I can graph weekly, monthly annually, or any time period I want.
I have been searching for a couple of hours now, and I could not find anything similar to this. I would think this is a pretty common idea for many people tracking their investments with Excel, so if it has been covered perhaps someone can point me in the right direction.
I don't have any programming experience in excel so as detailed of an explanation as possible
I am creating a document for work that automatically generates hyperlinks to pdf files in a given sub folder. Currently I have a section of code that opens a window to choose the folder location.
Code:
'Prompt user to select a directory
Do
Problem = False
Set ShellApp = CreateObject("Shell.Application"). _
Browseforfolder(0, "Please choose a folder", 0, "c:\")
On Error Resume Next
[Code] ........
What I actually want is to not have the window open, but excel automatically choose the sub folder location.
The directory looks like this
Z:ClientProjectDRAWINGS-2 RECORD COPIESPDF
The xlsm file is stored in the DRAWINGS folder, and I need it to point to the PDF folder.
I have a list of items in an excel sheet... 500 of them... and there are images for them in an other folder... The problem is those images are in 1000's and I only need those 500 images.. Images are saved as "SKU.jpg eg NS2354.jpg and we have an SKU column in excel as well .. SKU and their images have same name...
Is there any solution to pick up only those 500 images from those thousands of images?
Is it possible to save those 500 images in an other folder?
looking for some code to save to a destination
destination address is
C:Documents and SettingsstDesktopOJF
now the problem is OJF has folders named 1 to 500
so if cell d5 = 487 it will need to look in the above desination and then open the folder and save it there.
I have been trying to edit a code which previously saved a copy in a new workbook to a specific folder/path. (Additionally it copies and clears some figures, but this is working as it should.)
However I would like the copy to be saved at the same location as the original workbook, regardless of the path the original workbook is saved.
I.e if I need to move the workbook containing the code to a new folder/location, when using the macro, the new copy should be stored in the same folder/location as the original one.
For now it is only saving the copy into "My Documents"
Code:
Sub Macro1()
'
' Macro1 Macro
' Macro recorded 16-02-2009 by ceng
'
Sheets("Bunker ROB").Select
Sheets("Bunker ROB").Copy
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:= _
ActiveWorkbook.Path & Range("D3"), _
FileFormat:=xlOpenXMLWorkbookMacroEnabled, CreateBackup:=False
[Code] ........
I am using this code to create a backup copy of my workbook:
Code:
Sub DOUGHMON()Dim fname
fname = "C:UsersAndrewDesktopWEEKLY SALES REPORTS" & Format(Now, "dd mmm yy") & ".xlsm"
ThisWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:=fname
End Sub
The only problem with this code is that my current file gets closed and the backup is open. I'm not sure if that is exactly what happens, but when it is done the current file that is open is the copy, and I would like the original file to stay open.
I have figured out how to save the workbook using a variable to saveas but I would like to create a new folder to place the new workbook into. I have tried a few things a am not having any luck. I recorded a macro and the code it produced is as follows.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a macro that copy one sheet of the Active workbook and sends it via email.
I need to add a code in this sheet so when one opens it from the email, with a command button to be able to save the file to specific, fixed folder on the local network with it’s original file name.
I would like to create a code that will open all workbooks in folder "A" one at a time and then close the work book after another code is executed. So one workbook will open and while the workbook is open, I will call another code to format the active workbook and then the active workbook will be saved in folder "B" and closed and go to the next workbook in folder "A" to start all over. The folders are saved on the desktop.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a database (attached) that has data entered into the "Progression" sheet. This data is continually updated, and once each row has a section date, I have a macro that moves the data from "Progression" to the "Complete" sheet (and from there, into a specific month sheet). I AM REALLY CONCERNED with data accidentally getting deleted (especially when/after getting moved to "Complete"). I know that you can link cell values from one worksheet to another, but since my data is continually changing in the Progression and Complete sheets, the linkage wouldn't maintain the correct cell values from day to day. Is there a better approach to creating "backup" data in excel than this linkage option? Preferably something that runs in the background without my input?
An option could be that I move my data from Progression into both the Complete sheet and then a hidden "Master" sheet when I run the macro. If I chose that route, how would I modify my coding to include transferring to the Master sheet as well?
Lastly, a simple linkage between the Master sheet and another sheet in a second workbook should be sufficient as a backup method?
How do I write this to always save in a particular folder? C:Documents and SettingsErinDesktopJob Cost Estimates and how is it different if I am using a shared network?
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)
Dim varFileName As Variant
varFileName = Application.GetSaveAsFilename(Range("G6"), _
fileFilter:="Excel Files (*.xls), *.xls")
If varFileName False Then ThisWorkbook.SaveAs varFileName
End Sub
I am trying to save a file to a different directory but am not having any luck with the syntax.
so far have created new folders on the X drive. The x drive folders have been assigned a variable name which I am attempting to use again when telling the save as function where to save the file. the variable name is not being picked up in the new macro. I have declared the variable name as public at the start of my module.
My workbook has a worksheet for reports of sales by each sales person (which I had hoped to send by email). CDO didn't work because I have win7 and no flavors of Outlook and ShellExecute worked but truncated any sales beyond the first dozen. So.... My NEXT plan is to include a SAVEAS pdf for that report worksheet (with 12 or more reccords) using the salesperson's name and saving them all in a reports folder. Then I will go back and manually send those reports as attachments.
