Finding The Highest Value In Multiple Cells And Displaying It
Nov 15, 2009
At my work we use excel to keep a large number of labels done in one day, those labels are then added up to give our weeks total, running total and average by day.
What i am looking to do though on a seperate sheet though is find out which day we had the most, an example of what it looks like
I am looking for a way to find a highest (and/or) lowest value in a list of numbers. The list keeps getting longer and after a certain point I will need the 2 highest (or lowest), then the 3 highest (or lowest). I know MIN and MAX will find the high and low, but how do I find the 2nd highest, etc?
I have a column of one to three digit numbers (I5:I34), some of which contain an asterisk after them. In I35 i want a formula to find the highest value from that column. Additionally, if two numbers in the column are the same value, but one contains an asterisk after it, it should use that value in I35, instead of the one without the asterisk.
I am trying to search for a string of numbers (column 2) in an array, and have "YES" be written on the same line in column 3 if the string is found in the names ANYWHERE in column 1. Please see the desired results on the picture in column 3.
I have tried many things, including SEARCH function which can only work with 1 cell not many, COUNTIF and more advanced functions, but I think have not succeeded because of my lack of knowledge in arrays.
I have a spreadsheet where I want to do some fancy stuff:
1) find the lowest value in a range of cells (S9:S17) 2) output its corresponding value in A9:A17 into another cell, say C87 3) increment its corresponding value in C9:C17 by 1 4) repeat 9 times, but inputting it to C88, then C89, and so on.
Everything in the spreadsheet depends on the values in C9:C17, including the range S9:S17, so when the values in column C change, so do the ones in column S.
But I don't want to actually change anything, just simulate it. But because the values in S9:S17 are formulas from yet another column in the spreadsheet, the best thing to do would be to remember the column C values beforehand, do the 4 steps above, and write them back afterwards, otherwise the macro starts to get complicated and brings in more values etc.
A column = contains dates but does not always have 5 days in a week. Holidays are not entered.
B column = price data for each day
All I want to do is get the highest price from the previous week. So for example last week highest price was 5000 then column C will display 5000 for this entire week. I tried using WEEKNUM and WEEKDAY but i am clueless on what to do after that. I'm trying to avoid macros or VB since im not that advance with that. But if I have to I will.
I am using VLOOKUP with the not_exact_match set to True, however instead of finding the next largest value that is less than value, I want to find a way of returning the next largest value that is greater than value. I have looked at using MATCH and OFFSET to try and increment the returned value by 1.
Attached is a sample file that has a Data entry sheet in which the user can paste in data. They can test & paste anywhere from 1 to 50 compounds at a time and run the list through 1 to 55 Assays. I want to generate a sheet (Plate & Assay Info) that would first display the list of compounds that were tested as well as the list of Assays that they were run through.
Cells L5 - L65 have percentages. B5 - B65 Have the associates names. I want to write something in another cell that looks for the highest percentage and then prints the name as the highest.
I have a column that updates automatically by placing a value in in the next blank cell in the column. I am trying to write two formulas to identify the highest and lowest values in the preceding 10 cells of each update in the column but seem to be stuck in MIN/MAX/OFFSET hell.
want a way to find out any special character in text file (.txt).
The .txt file I use is very large about 100 mb to 1GB. I need to find a way to write vba code that asks for input text file and the validates it and gives the message that following special characters are present in the file. Also, it gives their column number and row no's, where they are located.
The characters which needs not treated as special characters are numbers (0-9), alpha (A-Z) and special characters (@,-,%,$,+,=).
I'm trying to build a formula that allows me to see which item is the highest trending over a period of time I input.
I figured out the way how to select data between specific Start and End dates, but don't know how to interpret "trending" in a formula.
I was thinking maybe highest jump from beginning to end of interval, but what if it's a new item that was launched halfway through the interval and does poorly throughout, that would still be "trending" under that rationale....
I'm working on a macro that's supposed to copy certain cells from a sheet, and paste them in another. But the problem is that I can't find a way to get them all in one go. The sheet that I am copying from has a mile-long list that looks something like this:
OR0220018NO-RING 21,95 x 1,78 N270 BS-0205,00 OR0220018N90O-RING 21,95 x 1,78 N290 BS 02022,00 OR0220018VO-RING 21,95 x 1,78 V275 BS-02010,00 OR0220018V90O-RING 21,95 x 1,78 V290 BS 02013,00 OR0220020NO-RING 22,00 x 2,00 N2709,00 OR0220020VO-RING 22,00 x 2,00 V28024,00 OR0220025NO-RING 22,00 x 2,50 N2705,00
It goes over 3 columns. I want to select column A, B and C in every row that contains the letters "N270".
Is there a way to return not only one cell but two with LARGE?
I'm still working on my top 5 sellers list and trying to generate the list correctly. As of now when I have multiples of the same value I get the same name. Here's what I have now:
So this is something that I'm not sure is possible in Excel. I would like to use an "if,then" statement to see if a number is in multiple cells. I know this is usually very simple except there's a catch here. In each cell there's a number range using a "-". So in a single cell a range would be 301-305. I am open to having the range done a different way like 301,302...etc. I just decided this would be an easy way to look at it and was hoping to find a way to solve this problem with leaving in the dash. Whatever is practical is fine with me.
Using Example A in the attached file I want to use this statement, =IF(308 is in any of the ranges in A3:A6, TRUE, FALSE).
So, for me, the alternative I want to avoid is Example B where I would have to list every single number and then check the whole range. I would like to avoid this because these examples, as you can imagine, are on a much smaller scale then what I will actually be dealing with.
I am trying to create a drop down list that when selected will display data in the 10 rows below and 4 columns, so a total of 40 cells. I would like the data to be based on the selection in the drop down list.
i have 27 different combinations of the above list with up to 10 different rows. I have a label for each one, but i cannot get the rows below my drop down list to display the proper values base don the selection in the drop down list.
Macro - it is currently set up to find a specific text, and activate that cell. From there, the spreadsheet has data in 6 cells in the 6 rows below the active cell. What I need the macro to do is to identify the product based on key words in a range of cells: that is, if any of those cells contain the string "total", than the product type is total, but if "total" is not found, look for keywords such as "alpha" and "beta", to identify the product type. If its not a total product, then i want it to look for "productB", "productc", and so on with relevant keywords until the product is identified.
I think IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH can be used, but I'm not sure how, and I'm not sure how to search all 6 cells (to make things worse, the number of cells vary, so I'm using the "find" function to figure out the first and last cell that contain data).
In my userform I have a list of check box's that can be selected. Currently if more than one is selected, they will appear in the spread sheet in the same line one after another with a space between them. How do I make it so they either appear with a comma appearing after each, so the next value appears on the next line below or most perferably the cell turning to a drop down list with the values?
Current code
VB: If CheckBox1.Value = True Then ws.Cells(iRow, 2).Value = ws.Cells(iRow, 2).Value & " " & CheckBox1.Caption If CheckBox2.Value = True Then ws.Cells(iRow, 2).Value = ws.Cells(iRow, 2).Value & " " & CheckBox2.Caption If CheckBox3.Value = True Then ws.Cells(iRow, 2).Value = ws.Cells(iRow, 2).Value & " " & CheckBox3.Caption If CheckBox4.Value = True Then ws.Cells(iRow, 2).Value = ws.Cells(iRow, 2).Value & " " & CheckBox4.Caption If CheckBox5.Value = True Then ws.Cells(iRow, 2).Value = ws.Cells(iRow, 2).Value & " " & CheckBox5.Caption If CheckBox6.Value = True Then ws.Cells(iRow, 2).Value = ws.Cells(iRow, 2).Value & " " & CheckBox6.Caption
Spreadsheet current cell appearence if all 6 are selected ' Chinnook EH101 Lynx Puma Sea King Fixed Wing'
Required appearence: Chinnook EH101 Lynx Puma Sea King Fixed Wing
I created a pivot chart and am utulising the report filter. Is there a way to display multiple charts on the same worksheet (or even another worksheet) for the purpose of comparison?
I have 2 columns, A (has the names of employees) and B (has the month in which the employee has a project scheduled). What I’m looking to do is find the latest month an employee has a project scheduled. Note: Employees can have a multiple number of projects so they may be listed multiple times with corresponding months.
I have each employee listed in column F and am looking to find their latest project month in column G. (I have the number that the formula should return in column H).
I have a workbook that contains sheets of sales data from year to year. Each sheet has the same data in the same range of cells. For example b2 thru b26 would contain the sales for Day 1 of a route system for each week of the year, and each sheet in the workbook contains the same data in b2 thru b26 regardless of the year (2006, 2007, etc). I would like to be able to have a cell that would contain the record high sales for that particular route day, but have a formula that would watch that column and change the value in the selected cell when a new high was entered.
Is there a way to check the range of cells for a high value, or would I need to check each cell against the current high value in the cell with the record high, and how would I go about constructing this formula? Or as I'm now thinking about it, would this be more of a job for a macro that would run when data was entered?
Hi, I'm sure this will be an easy one for most of you. I need to extract data from an array for each time I have recorded a specific vehicle registration. I have used VLOOKUP but this only gives me one result. I need excel to display every enrty for the registration I am looking for. I have attached a sample file which should make more sence.
I know the title is a little confusing, but i couldn't think of a better way to put it. I have a listbox connected to a combobox. the combobox acts like a filter, allowing the user to change from multiple different selections, which appear in the listbox.
the problem i am having is when two of the items that appear in the listbox are the same, then the data displayed to the right will only show the top most row. i have attached the example.
On this example, the userform is called frmEditData. if you filter claim, you'll notice that since each number appearing in the listbox is different, it will display the corresponding data in the right. If you use the date of loss search parameter, all three are the same, so it will only show the top row.
I'm Seeking in InRegards To Working Out How To Display Multiple Leaders Within The Same Cell Based Apon There Score In A Game Of Golf, Or If This Cant Be Done Perhaps A Message Saying "Multiple Leaders" So That It Is Known That Its Not Just The One Persons Name That Is Been Displayed. I Have Attatched The Document I Have Been Playing With While Trying To Work It Out Before Making A Big Sheet.
As You Will See "Daniel" And "Paul" Both Have The Same Score, And Below In The Summary It IS Currently Only Showing "Daniel" As The Scratch Leader, Is There A Way Of Getting It To Show Them Both As A Leader, EG: "Daniel, Paul", Or As Said efore Just Saying "Multiple Leaders" Thus Having To Manual Go Through Them ( The Fist Option Would Be Better As There Will Be Approx 85 Names In The Final Sheet)
I have a bunch of cells that are only displaying ########## (they contain strings of text, and the actual text can be seen in the formula bar).
I know for a fact that the cells do not exceed the character limit for a cell and other cells in the same column are being displayed just fine. I've also tried adjusting the row height and column width but it doesn't seem to be working.
is to display a set of data based on filtered information.
My Data base: Company Department Name A X John A Y Joe A X Jane B Y Bob C Z Kate A X Kerri
Based on user selection of Company and Department, I want to be able to display the relavent names.
If user chose Company A, and Department X, I want to be able to display John Jane Kerri
I've used the ROWS, Index, Small combination that works perfectly (Please see sample below). However, since the this software doesn't support the ROWS function, and doesn't support Macros.
Could any of you Excel bods please help me find the correct formula to enter in order to calculate the following reasonably simple sum:
3 cells with numbers, say, 1, 3 & 7.
I simply need to get my worksheet to look at all three cells and then calculate the result of adding the biggest and smallest number together. i.e. 8 in the example given.
