Force UserForm To Always Be Top Window
Oct 24, 2007
Is it possible to create a "floating" UserForm with VBA? That is, a form that is always on top af all the other windows. If not I think I will have to create an application in VB that imports data from the active Excel Spreadsheet, wich I have been lead to understand is fully possible. I really need this for the application that I am currently developing and I from what I have heard it is possible in VB.

I have the following code working great, however, it only applies to the worksheet that opens when the .xls file first opens. I need it to also apply to all of the sheets in the workbook, in particular sheets titled TNT & Variables
Option Explicit
Private mFormulaBar
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)
Dim oCB As CommandBar
For Each oCB In Application.CommandBars
oCB.Enabled = True
Next oCB
Application.DisplayFormulaBar = mFormulaBar
End Sub
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
Dim oCB As CommandBar
For Each oCB In Application.CommandBars
oCB.Enabled = False
Next oCB
mFormulaBar = Application.DisplayFormulaBar
Application.DisplayFormulaBar = False
Application.EnableEvents = True
Application.WindowState = xlMaximized
ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Select
ActiveWindow.Zoom = True
Range("salesperson2").Select
End Sub

I have a UserForm that requires a value in TextBox10. I load a "1" into it at start up. If the user tries to delete the value in TextBox10 and exit, leaving either "" or 0 in the TextBox, it will cause a great many problems. I need someway to keep the focus in TextBox10.
I tried to find something using the search engine but I could not find anything searching with this subject.
Here is the code from my first attempt:
Private Sub TextBox10_Exit(ByVal Cancel As MSForms.ReturnBoolean)
If TextBox10.Value = 0 Or TextBox10.Value = vbNullString Then
TextBox10.SetFocus
Exit Sub
End If
It doesn't seem to do anything. When I delete whatever is in the Textbox and hit enter, it should just stay in TextBox10 but instead it goes to the next tab location.

I have a userform with several buttons on, each doing seperate tasks, three of the buttons however are used to load a workbook stored elsewhere in our central data storage drive. Loading these workbooks is not the problem, the problem is when loading these they load up behind the userform and not in a new window.

Situation:
At two places in the middle of my code I need to specify a particular variable; usually this is done by some autodection-method, but whenever this fails a userform gets loaded and the user needs to do some clicks which finally specifies that variable.
Problem:
So far my code does NOT wait for the userform (and the user-input), but continues running until it fails, cause that particular variable (see above) had not been initialised with the correct value for this run.
My Question:
How can I force the code to wait until the userform has been closed? Or what other way do you usually solve that problem when wanting to use a userform in mid-code? Below you find the place where I load the User form 'UsrFormSpecifyFormat' ....

A userform to move the curser to a column then activate the Excel App and keep the userform visiable.
The problem is when excution the code step by step (F8) works fine, but when excution the code by F5 the cursor moves to the Range("A65536").End(xlUp) and doesnot then move to the required column.
also this line
AppActivate ("Microsoft excel")
does not work , it gives me Invalid proceduers or call argument.
Private Sub ComboBox1_Change()
Range("A65536").End(xlUp).Activate
If ComboBox1.ListIndex = 0 Then Cells(ActiveCell.Row, "I").Activate
If ComboBox1.ListIndex = 1 Then Cells(ActiveCell.Row, "J").Activate
If ComboBox1.ListIndex = 2 Then Cells(ActiveCell.Row, "K").Activate
AppActivate ("Microsoft excel")
End Sub

I currently have a small userform placed at the bottom right of the screen (with a command button on it) and this opens up on top of excel instances and other applications/windows and it is set so that you can't interact with anything except the userform.
I wanted to minimize the userform and give focus to immediate next window (can be excel or non excel applications) for 10 seconds and then activate/show the userform back again, when the "Button 1" on the userform is clicked.
I tried hiding the userform, but this doesn't give focus to the immediate next window. Below is the code
Private Sub Button_Click()
Me.Hide
PauseApp (10)
Me.Show
End Sub
I could only find answers for adding minimize and maximize buttons to userform.
When the button is clicked, it should perform
Step a - Minimize the userform
Step b - Give focus to the next immediate window behind the userform
Step c - Wait for 10 seconds
Step d - Bring back the userform its to state.

I'm working on a spreadhseet which has several macros that can take up to 5 minutes to run. When the macro(s) complete, I pop up a userform to provide instructions and collect some additional data from the user.
The "problem" is that when the user moves to another application to do other work, the user form remains hidden behind the active app. I've added some text to the status bar to let the users know the processing is done, but they would like something more obvious - so, is there any way I can force focus back to Excel?

I have a certain macro which copies data from one file to the other. There are several target files (refering to a given month each) and one source file. The user chooses a month from a drop down list in the source file which modifies a certain cell. The value of this cell decides on which of the 12 target files will be opened to paste the data to. The macro also copies the value of a cell which refers to the current date (=TODAY()) This number is then compared with a the range (value between two pints in time: start and end date of a given month). All I need is some sort of a pop-up window with a header i.e. WARNING. and the window text: You are about to send the information to a file which does not refere to the current month, are you sure you want to perform this action" and two buttons YES and NO in case the value of the current date does not match the range set up by the starting and ending of a given month in the target file. The button YES would then do waht ever the code that was placed before the pop-up window said, save the aplication and close it, and the NO button would simply close the aplicatiown without saving it. Something like that:
Sub Export()
'the whole code describing the action to be taken
If Range("A1").Value >= Range("A3").Value And Range("A1").Value <= Range("A2").Value Then
'here the A1 cell refers to the current date and cells A2 and A3 to the start and the end date of the month
End Sub

Is it possible to trigger a forced comment if a particular value is entered in a cell?
For instance, if the letter "F" is entered into a cell, I want the comment box is pop up, is this possible?
And lastly... is it possible to automatically group comments? for instance if a row has 6 comments, I'd like to combine all of them into a comment box on the same row.

My spreadsheet is very large & takes sometimes 5 to 10 seconds to recalculate. The problem is that is was wanting to recalc every time I edited a cell, which I do constantly all day long. Due to this, I have turned off automatic recalculation. Is there is a way I can use VBA to force just one cell or just one row to recalculate? Keep in mind that currently no cells recalculate until I hit F9 or go in & manually hit Calculate Sheet in tools > options > calculation.

i have a macro that performs the same search in many websites, opening a new ie window for any site. What i want now is opening a new tab in IE instead of a new window. To illustrate, here go some code:
VB:
Dim PartNo As String 'Declaro la cadena de texto que determina la busqueda
Public Sub BuscarPLCCenter()
Dim IE As InternetExplorer
[Code]....
I would like that all of these procedures opened a new IE tab to do the search, cause actually it opens like 15 windows at a time and is not user friendly enough.

There is a column with a formula and a list validation, and an adjacent hidden column with numbered ids. When moving into the list validation cell the Worksheet_Selection_Change event code saves information about the Target cell - value, address, formula. When a value has been obtained from the list the Worksheet_Change event code looks up a belonging id in a lookup table and put this in the hidden id cell, and puts the saved formula back into the list validation cell. This makes the sheet (or window) unmanagable.
When I move around the sheet I can see the cell name in the Name Box, but the sheet itself is not visible. The only way to display the sheet is to add a new window (Window - New Window), choose the first "frozen" window (Window - 1. window) and quit this window. Then the new window is ready for use, but of course with the same limitations as the newly quitted one. Ring a bell, someone?? The funny thing is that in this workbook I also use the same functionality in another sheet without any problems.

I'm looking for a way to use VBA to set the window size upon opening the workbook. When the document opens, there should be two windows, each taking up half the screen and each on a particular tab.
Currently, if I save the workbook with the window settings I want, when I open it, both windows are maximized. When I hit the restore button, they go back the settings with which they were saved, which is what I want it to look like as soon as it's opened. Also, a bonus would be for the code to determine the screen size, so it can fill the screen no matter what monitor/computer it's opened on.

I open up Excel by double clicking on a file, it opens but it just has a grey background and the file I opened is displayed as a small 1 inch stip in the top left - just a title bar with the windows maximise, minimise and close buttons.
What ever I click I can't see any of the cells!

I've built a macro to run a loop that opens excel files, prints certain sheets and closes them. I have the macro working - to some degree. here is my code (this is excel):
Sub RMPProducer()
OldPath = "S:RMBS_Performance_Analytics Analysis1 Staging Folder For Monthly Model Templates2007200704VVDeals"
Dim t As Workbook
Dim s As String
Dim a As Window
With Application.FileSearch
.NewSearch
.LookIn = OldPath
.SearchSubFolders = False
.Filename = "*.xls"
.MatchTextExactly = True
If .Execute() > 0 Then
For i = 1 To .FoundFiles.Count
s = .FoundFiles(i)
I have 2 problems. First problem is that I am trying to add a function to make the window close once its finished printing. This actually works - but it limits my loop iterations from i = 1 to 2 (so it only runs 2 times and I'm not exactly sure why). If I don't include the statement - this can run for up to 7 - 8 times (these are very large files) then excel runs out of memory. Unfortunately, i can't set the loop to run from i = anything other than one.
So What I would prefer is to be able to make the "ActiveWindow.close" command work - because this way I can run the entire loop. But I'm not sure how to. I tried window referencing, I tried adding a new active Window so when the file opens, its opening in the active window already, but nothing works.
Preferably, I need to be able to reference both windows, as my next macro will involve referencing 2 windows (one static - always open) and the other the loop above.

I've looked through the threads and have seen some Save As posts, but nothing that seems to fit my task. All I want to do is force the Save As file type to .xls (for some reason on our network, xlsm causes save errors... After looking through various posts, I found this:
VB:
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal SaveAsUI As Boolean, Cancel As Boolean)
If Not SaveAsUI Then
Exit Sub [code]....
The problem is this causes the Save As dialog box to show up twice... How I get the Save As dialog box to show up once?

Is there any way to force some sort of garbage collect in order to free up memory? I am running some code which takes values from one workbook and pastes them into the control workbook. It currently works when 15 sheets of data are being moved however, my data has just grown to 16 sheets and now the code gives me the not enough resources message. If a garbage collect would solve this issue would I need to also reset any variables I had defined in the code?

I have an Excel sheet which serves as an input form. I would like to set something up where if the user inputs any value into the cell range B12:B100 then they are forced to also enter a value in column J of that same row.
Maybe something could be done where if they enter a value in B12, then they cannot enter a value in B13 before entering a value in cell J12?
