Format Border Color Based On Value
Nov 1, 2007I found this code (compliments of Andy Pope) which fills a background color based on its corresponding cell value. (then offsets all uniformly)

View 9 RepliesI have a simple spreadsheet. A column for a persons name and 31 columns, one for each day of the month. I want to apply conditional formatting, either fill color or border color, to the date column of the current date when the spreadsheet is opened.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a dynamic table (rows regularly added or deleted) that is generated automatically based on choices made by the user in another worksheet. I need a function that will examine all the cells in one column, and when it finds a difference between two cell entries, it will change the border between these two entries to dark (medium weight), and then extend this border across the table. The end result should be that wherever the cell contents differ within a column, the table is divided by a darker border across the entire row.

View 2 Replies View Relatedpart of my code looks like this. Instead of it being if c.interior.colorindex i want it to be if top border color = 4.
How do i syntax this?
For Each c In Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("B7:DE7").Cells
If c.Interior.ColorIndex = 4 Then Range("DH7").Value = Range("DH7").Value + c.Value
Also, is there a way to specify Range("DH") and make the row be the current row, not hard coded to 7
When I launch excel 2007, i have cells with a grey border. I'm not sure what the colorindex is of this border.
Through a macro, when I format cells, I use
Cells(x,y).BorderAround ColorIndex:=xlAutomatic
xlAutomatic points to BLACK by default. Could someone tell me how I could reference the actual default colorindex (the grey one which seems to border all other cells, while not being xlAutomatic)?
I am trying to develop an Excel spread- sheet by using some macros. In detail, in my first worksheet, I have something like -
Exp1 ....
Exp2 ....
Exp3 ....
:
:
:
Expn ....
This rows are coming from another worksheet and I have used a macro (developed by me) to populate these rows. Even the number of rows to be populated is not fixed.
However, I would like to add one row with text - " Total Expense" after those rows. This row will have some background color - say Tan - and font color - say Green - and also a border around its own - in nature, the border will be thick, Double and with color Rose. I have tried the following code in macro but not working properly -
Sub Include_Fields_n_Format(loc As String)
tot_exp_scell = loc & f_scell
tot_exp_ecell = loc & (f_scell + 1)
Range(tot_exp_scell, tot_exp_ecell). Merge
Range(tot_exp_scell, tot_exp_ecell).WrapText = True
Range(tot_exp_scell, tot_exp_ecell).Interior.Color = RGB(150, 150, 150)
With Range(tot_exp_scell, tot_exp_ecell).Font...................
I am trying to assign a border and fill to cells, of identical colors, using VBA. Simple enough, yes? I am using the same RGB value for both the fill and the border, but in Excel 2003, they are assigned two different colors: the fill is the correct shade, but the border is not, which makes absolutely no sense to me. I could understand if both colors were slightly off from the shade I'm getting in 2007, but to have one be correct and the other not? I can manually assign the border to be the proper color, but this doesn't help.
The code is:
I have this simple code which sets the objects format as default.
Private Sub FormatTextBox()
ActiveSheet.Shapes("FormatBox").Select
Selection.ShapeRange.SetShapesDefaultProperties
End Sub
Is there a way to set an objects shape to the default format...not as default?
ie: if the default line color is blue. what code could i use to set an object with a black line color, to the default blue?
I want to format a group of cells color based on the value of one referance cell. Example would be: If a1 is adn "X" the the results in cells b1 thru b10 would be green else they would be blue. Is there a way to do this using Excel 97?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to write a conditional format formula that will change the background color based on multiple color options on in a row. I have cell A:c as first, last and middle name. I utilize the rest 40+ cells that provides dates that are conditionally formatted to based on dates. I've approached this trying to reference the columns dates and cannot figure it out. Heres what I would like to do:
If any cell in from D:Z has a background color of red, yellow, green, and none it will change the background color in cells A:C. Its easy to reference one cell but not multiple. I've attached a sample of what I would like to do and I manually changed to cells A:C to show how I would like to show my results.
On the attached, I want to make the status 3 lines conditional on the text found in another cell.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy cell has a 'P' or an 'F' plus some additional text. I'm trying to change cell color based on the 'P' or 'F' but I can't get it to recognize the letters.
Samples of what I've tried:
=IF(LEFT(L23,1)=P)
=IF(MID(L23,1,1)=P)
etc.
I can 'FIND' the 'P' or 'F' but there may be a P or F else where in the cell so the color may come up incorrect. I'm trying to get it to just look at the first character in the cell. Can the 'IF' be used with CFs?
I have been tasked with creating a Macro in order to help speed up a rather simple set of steps that are taken to format a spreadsheet each day. The last step, however, is not so simple. I would like to add a statement to the macro code that does that following:
Based on the value of a specific cell, color the cell and all corresponding cells within the same row (from colums A to AA) yellow. Essentially, cells in column D may have a the value "No Allocation", and if they do, I will need to format that cell yellow as well as all the cells within the same row for the colume range A to AA.
I know that I need to use Conditional Formatting, but I can't get the formula code correct.
This is what I need it to do:
If cell A2 is populated (not blank) AND cell B2 is blank, then cell B2 to be highlighted in bright red fill.
If cell A2 is populated (not blank) and cell B2 is also populated (not blank), then leave formatting as per normal
If cell A2 is blank then leave formatting as per normal
Basically, as soon as someone types anything into cell A2, cell B2 to turn red. Then once they have input something into cell B2, the red highlight can disappear. The inputs will be text, not numbers, so I can't use </>
I have tried varying circumstances of IFs, ANDs, NOTs, ISBLANKs etc and I can't crack
I'm trying to conditional format a cell that contains a formula that when the formula returns anything other than "" the cell contains a border.
My formula within the cell is referencing another worksheet
=IF(Sheet1!A1="","",Sheet1!A1)
Ideally the formula within the conditional format would be
=NOT(ISBLANK(Sheet1!$A$1))
but it isn't possible to reference another worksheet within a conditional format.
I have the table, as shown on left in the appended image, and the final result should be the right one.
The steps are written as 1, 2, 3 and 4.

I am trying to Formal my Cell Border automatically.
Lets say i have cells
A
B
B
A
A
A
These are single cells running downwards only. I want to format this 6 cells into 1 box using (outside borders) formating. I need to repeat this for every 6 cells into 1box...and continue on and on. Im doing this process manually...But i got like 100,000 cells...
I have been trying to format the rows on this sheet to color scale red based on the number of repeat text strings in Column E. Referring to the attached example sheet, '321/312.2/321.3' appears the most times and the goal is to color code the rows it appears in the deepest shade of red, then the next highest occurring string would shade the rows it appears in a lighter shade, etc, in descending order. Our team currently does this across multiple sheets manually everyday and it would be a real time saver if we could get excel to do this automatically.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI would like to format the color of cell A1 on Sheet 1 based on true or false values from cell range A1:A10 on sheet 2. For instance:
1. If all cells on sheet 2 in range A1:A10 were false then cell A1 on sheet 1 would be red.
2. If some cells on sheet 2 in the range A1:A10 were false and some were true then cell A1 on sheet 1 would be yellow.
3. If all cells on sheet 2 in range A1:A10 were true then cell A1 on sheet 1 would be green.
I'm using Excel 2007.
I have a field with a "YES"/"NO" drop-down box. There are three fields below which have some default formatting (thick purple dot-dot-dash borders). When the drop-down field is "YES", those three fields should change borders to a single thin black bottom border line.
OK... so that's the setup. And I should note here that it does in fact format properly. However, the problem I'm having is that the screen does not update / repaint with the new formatting. The thick purple dot-dot-dash borders remain, for the most part.
If I page down, then page back up, the new formatting appears just fine. When I switch from "YES" to "NO", again, the formatting changes, but the screen does not update/repaint so the only way to see the new formatting is to again... page up and then page down again.
I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to force the screen to repaint/update so that my users will see the new formatting without having to page up/down.
This seems so simple but i looked everywhere and i cannot find the vba script to add a 3 point solid black line border around the chart and plot area of my graphs. The record macro option does not record this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to accomplish 2 things in my Excel 2010 spreadsheet by click a cell which already has a number and formatting in it.
1. How do I change the color of the cell, the color of the number in it, and the border around it. (Make it look like I just pressed a button by clicking it.)
2. At the same time have the text in different cell and the number in the selected cell appear in another different cell. (Text in a different cell = A , and the number in the selected cell = 23, the value in the resulting cell be "A 23") Everything I would like to happen at the same time by clicking the selected cell. I would also like this to be done several times by clicking different cells and not changing the previously selected cells.
I want to add buttom double border to cells in rows, based on data in column A via VBA,
I have a title in A1 called PO, every PO have variable numbers of rows. so i want buttom double borders for each group of PO.
I added an attachment of "Before and after" example.
I have got a userform with lots of controls,
One of the action's on a large group of the controls is the same but except for one number
here is an example
If TextBox107.ForeColor = 255 Then ActiveCell. Offset(0, 53).Font.ColorIndex = 3
If TextBox108.ForeColor = 255 Then ActiveCell.Offset(0, 54).Font.ColorIndex = 3
If TextBox109.ForeColor = 255 Then ActiveCell.Offset(0, 55).Font.ColorIndex = 3
This makes a cell that correlates to the textbox red if the text in the textbox is red.
Now, I loads of these textboxes that all need to run the same code with just the Offset value one digit higher than the last and I was hoping I could create a loop to avoid a huge block of code but I can't work out how to make a constant that will +1 with each loop.
Also, can I assume that a loop will start with the control with the lowest number i.e. Textbox1 and then work its way through the rest of them in order?
I wrote a macro to color the cell values in the rows based on their average value. For eg if the cell value is less than 0.2 Avg, they should be red color,if value is between 0.2 and 0.5 it should be yellow. This part is working fine
Now based on the color of the rows cells , need to write a macro for the header one. Logic is Coloum header should be in red colour, if in one or more number of rows cells are red. same with yellow ones. Could you please help me out in solving this with logic.
I have attached the relevant spreadsheet for which I need to alter the color of the columns based on Site number ( Sheet 1). % Mortality will be represented in the Y-Axis, and the Site numbers would be on the X-Axis. All columns (% Mortality) except one will be of the same color, and the one of a different color will indicate a specific site. As an example, site 86 is colored differently. The way I require the chart to look is shown on Sheet 1.
After reading through some great posts on Ozgrid, I managed to do this using conditional formatting (Sheet 2), but that sort of falls short because I am required to add a data table to the chart, and the parameter that is indicated by the column bars happens to appear twice in the data table.
I was wondering if this can be automated maybe using VBA, but with the possibility of simply matching the color of columns with the font color of respective entry in the data series.
This is probably elementary, but I'm struggling and would appreciate any help as I have very little excel VBA experience to draw from.
I have assembled code which changes the cell color based on a value change in Column A. Column A will contain many different groups of repeating values. This code works well and and I have been able to figure out how to limit the number of colors to only 2. The end result is each set of similar values in column A is visually grouped by one of two alternating colors.
The number rows in the data set is variable as the data set is extracted from SAP. The number of columns is fixed.
What I want to do now is set the cell color in columns B through F the same color that was assigned to the row in column A. So if cell A3 is set to colorindex = 6, then I want to set the range of cells B3 to E3 to the same color.
Here is the code I am using to set the color of the cells in Column A:
I have two columns. The first one (A) contains cells that have different Fill colors. The second column (B) contains text adjacent to the colored cells. I am trying to change the color of the text in the second column (B) to the corresponding color in the adjacent cell in the first column (A). I don't think conditional formating works well in this situation. I believe the solution would be some sort of macro.
