I've created a spreadsheet of clients and info; I want each client name to link to their specific folder on my computer for easy referencing. I entered in all the links and they work just fine; however, when i tried to save the file to another location on my computer so it could be used by another employee (same terminal, etc, just in another folder) the hyperlinks stopped working.
View 5 RepliesI am attempting to write an Excel macro that will be stored in a file called MacroFile. The purpose of the macro is to
1. Follow a hyperlink to an Excel file saved in a SharePoint type enviroment
2. Save the file to my laptop directory My Documents.
Below is the code I have written. The code is following the hyperlink and saving a file but is the focus file is incorrect.
Here is what happens:
1. Open up MacroFile and run macro
2. Hyperlinked file LinkedFile_1.xls is opened
3. File NewFile_1 is saved but contains the info from MacroFile
4. Hyperlinked file LinkedFile_2.xls is opened
5. File NewFile_2 is saved but contains the info from LinkedFile_1
6. Hyperlinked file LinkedFile_3.xls is opened
7. File NewFile_3 is saved but contains the info from LinkedFile_2
The files created are named correctly but have the wrong data in them. I need to know how to control which file is considered ActiveWorkbook.

This file will be used accross multiple computers and therefore the directory will always change. What I need to hapen, is for this code to save the workbook in the same directory as the origional file. I also want the file name to refer to a cells value, as I will be having the user define the name through a userform.
I get an xl file sent to me every day which I upload into a database. I then save the file keeping its name and save it into a selected folder. Is it possible to add a macro at the beginning of my current macro that saves the file using its name to a selected folder?

So I made a macro that makes a copy of only 1 sheet of the workbook and saves it with a given name to a given location. The problem is that I want a location prompt to ask the user where they want the file saved, while giving/suggesting them a fixed filename. A lot of different users will make and use their sheets so I need a certain naming policy to manage all the files. (date, location, etc)

In Excel 2007 running Windows XP, I would just right click in the left side menu and click "add" and now that's no longer an option.

I have a programme which works fine on my computer at home but when I send it via email to work the 'sort' function messes up (there is a chance it could be the 'vlookup' function, though) and all the cells in the sort range lose their formula reference - which is of course a tad annoying.
The part of the programme I'm having difficulty with is this:

When someone right clicks on a cell and chooses "Hyperlink" current folder is being displayed as a default.
is there a way to change this for a particular workbook through VBA or API calls ?
I would like to always have "c:" as the default folder no matter where the workbook is stored.
Designing very simple macro, it simply trims of some bits from the spreadsheet.
I paste special the trimmed cells over the top of the existing cells.
The macro works fine on my computer.
I took the code from my computer and put it on the other persons computer. The macro didn't work claiming issue with the paste special.
I want to transfer my Excel-icons. Some of them are custom buttons where I have added user-defined functions. Is there any way I can do this? A list of icons with their function or purpose is OK as well.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have received from reading previous posts in this forum. Now I have a problem that I have struggled with for weeks. Ref: Excel 2000. I create (Purchase Order) Workbooks with 50 (POs) Worksheets, and 1 summary (Index) worksheet. The Index worksheet has hyperlinks to each PO (created via VBA), and works as expected.
Subsequently, each worksheet has a hyperlink back to the Index worksheet also created from VBA

Before the hyperlink in each worksheet will work I must (with the cell containing the hyperlink selected) either right-click|Hyperlink|Edit Hyperlink then press "Enter", or pres Ctrl-K (which brings up the edit dialog) and then press "Enter." If I don't manually edit each hyperlink on each worksheet these hyperlinks select the targeted cell on the same worksheet as the selected cell, not the targeted cell on the Index worksheet. Note, when I manually edit each hyperlink I am not actually making any changes to the hyperlink (thought something is obviously happening that I am unaware of), I am only accessing the edit dialog box.
I was reinstalling office on a laptop where the hard drive had been replaced. I used the 'save settings, wizard on my desktop and put in the new settings when I reinstalled Office.
This almost worked, but not quite.
Word and PowerPoint seem to be fine but when I reopened Excel I got a number of messages saying that objects could not be loaded because they were not on the machine. Some of this was because Excel was trying to reference add-ins that needed to be reinstalled. I have done that, and there are now fewer messages - but there are still two and I can't get rid of them. One looks for 'objects' the other a single 'object'. There seems no way of finding out what the objects are in question, and what it that Excel is stumbling over. Can I do anything other than abandoning my previous settings and starting again, or else living with having to click twice every time I start excel to get rid of the messages?
I have tried uninstalling Excel and reinstalling but this doesn't help. Perhaps registry changes are the problem...and I hate the registry.
Using Excel 2010, I set up a simple workbook with a spreadsheet on one page and the ranges for data validation on another. I successfully linked the fields in the "Category" and "Tender" columns with the data on the second sheet, making nice drop down menus. Everything works fine on my computer. However, when we open the workbook on a different station, the drop down menus disappear. If you highlight any of the "Category" or "Tender" fields, the little drop down prompt is missing; they behave like regular, un-formatted fields. It appears that the data validation became un-linked.
We tried opening versions with certain fields locked (Mainly the Total, Breakdown, and Summary areas, but the fields with data validation were still editable), and also completely unlocked documents. Every time, the drop down lists were lost when opened on different stations.

Forget to check a box or something? This seems way harder for me to figure out that it should be!
I have a workbook that links to other workbooks, in short people add data in the "other" workbook and the new workbook, we'll call "over see" automatically updates to show this data as it is add. The problem I have at the moment is there are hyperlinks in column H in the "other" workbooks that I need to also automatically transfer/update into the "over see" workbook. When I copy pasted or linked the workbook by having each cell equal the corresponding cell in the "other" workbook(s), the hyperlink lost the first half of its code. When I tried to creat a macro to fix this, code below, it only works for the first hyperlink, all links are different, but with my current macro, they all become the same.

This downloads file for 21022014 ie. 21-Feb-2014. I need to be able to have a facility to have a selection criteria on my user form (in excel) where I specify a date range and the macro automatically downloads all the valid excel files available within that date range (files for Saturday, Sunday and some holiday dates will not be available in the website archive database) one after the other (like at single clcik of button) into a specific location (predefined viz.. c:/Users/EOD files/) on my laptop. Best would be if I am able to select the save location run time by using a 'Browse' like feature where I go and choose my local laptop folder...same type when we try uploading a file from our laptop to the web..

1. How to set autorecover save location in VBA? I know how to do this on the front-end i.e goto tools/options/save tab and set it there As i have disabled save autorecovery feature, autorecover save location is greyed out
2. How to create a backup of my workbook? So that my workbook will perform autosave and when i close this workbook at the end of the day all the latest changes are added to the backup and saved
User selects 'go to page B' on page A. They look at an object then click the object to go back to page A. Once back on page A they need to check data on page B, but in the same general location as where they just looked. This is over simplified, but pretty much sums up what I need to do. The code I have now is below, but keeps sending me to the last selection on my current page.

I do routine tasks every day which involves opening 3 different files and pasting data into my main file. The data is always in the same format, and the 3 files are saved in the same location (3 different folders through). The 3 files are saved each day and the naming convention is constant, with only the date changing. For example, the files are always saved in C:My Documents and the files are called test_05.02.2013.xls. Tomorrow the file will be called test_06.02.2013.xls and so on.
So each day I will be rolling a file forward and I want to bring in the info from each of these files based on the new day.
How to do 1, and I will do the others (because the concept will be the same).

I often need to save the user's current position on a worksheet, do some stuff then get them back to where they started. In the past I've saved the current location sometimes as a string and sometimes as a range.

managed to get a piece of code working to create unique sequential numbers for purchase orders, but only by "enabling all macros" which is apparently not recommended and could conceivably, as I understand it, leave a PC vunerable to viriuses contained in other imported files.
Please bear with me as I'm very new to anything other than basic Excel functions; macros were, until last week, something I didn't even know existed, let alone how to use them. Anyway, having got my macro working, I understand that the best thing to do is put it in a "trusted location" from where it will work automatically without requiring operator input (whilst still maintaining high overall security), rather than "enabling all macros", but I have a couple of issues with this.
Firstly, having created a folder in "my documents" as per the instructions, how do I save the macro there? What format should it be in? Surely not a word document? (as you can gather I am still really in the dark about all this). If not, what?
Secondly, how do I direct Excel to access and run the macro from this "trusted location" folder, rather than the already existing "module1"?
