Letter Validation (prevents The Letters "I" Or "O")
Apr 9, 2009
i go to film school and i have created an excel spreadsheet to manage our shot list paperwork. in one column is the shot number (it's called the shot number, but letters are used instead.) i have applied a validation formula to the cells in that column (B9:B35) that prevents the letters "I" or "O" being entered (because I and O look like 1's and 0's, and therefore is not a "valid" shot number) prompting an error if the user does enter I or O. However, my formula doesn't work. right now i have =LEFT(B9:B35)= "A" which means that any text entered that begins with A will be accepted and other text will return an error. I want it so only the letters I or O return an error, and other letters don't prompt any error.
I have the Range B:F for "Values MJ" and columns G:K with "Values RT". In column A there is a letter for each row but some letters could appear more than once and I want to have only unique letters in column A and merged the Range B:F for "Values MJ" and columns G:K with "Values RT" in the same row for those repeated letters.
Original data:
A B C D E F G H I J
[Code]...
If a letter only have values in range B:F print "Missing" in range G:K for the same row. If a letter only have values in range G:K print "Missing" in range B:F for the same row.
I'd like to delete the row of the letter if the repeated letter has values in B:F, since letters for ranges B:F always appear after the letters that have values in range G:K and since I'd like the output in same sheet.
I currently have cell B3 in a worksheet - able to except 2 data entries.
The user should enter either OPQ or BOT followed by numbers. How do i ensure that they only enter OPQ (O - Letter Not Number) followed by numbers, or BOT (O - Letter Not Number) followed by numbers.
i.e. OPQ87654321 NOT 0PQ87654321 or BOT12345678 NOT B0T12345678. The information has to be entered manually and not via drop down list as each number is unique to the OPQ or BOT.
I want to create data validation so that the first 2 digits=PS and the next 4 digits will be numbers. I have tried a few things but I cant get anything to work?
I am using Excel 07 with Vista, and creating a spreadsheet in which users will be inputting a record into every row.
There is a row that requires a number to be entered, where some of the numbers will begin with 0 or 00 or even 0000. I want to make sure no-one incorrectly enters a letter, however with data validation set to whole numbers, it formats the cell to change an entry of "005667" into just "5667". There is no set length for the field.
The only way to have "005667" is the change the column to text, but then obviously that defeats the whole purpose!
I have 3 macros, 2 of them puts formulas in 2 separate cells and the other to turn off file save, file save as and the Save button. Everything was working fine until I password protected the project, now the macros quit loading. I can still run them manually and they work fine, they just don't run when the spreadsheet is loaded. (What I wanted to do was prevent users from seeing the formulas by saving the spreadsheet after the formula was put in the cell and also by looking at the macro). I've unpassword protected the project and took out the macro to prevent the Saves. What do I need to look at to get the macros to run when the spreadsheet is loaded?
I have a workbook with 4 worksheets in it. The first 2 worksheets have a restricted user area of A1:Z48.
Private Sub Worksheet_Activate() ScrollArea = "A1:Z48" End Sub
On the first one of these sheets the user cannot scroll around the sheet unless they change the zoom percentage to 85% or above. The second sheet, which is almost identical, and has the same scroll area does not suffer from this problem.
When I close one excel document, I get prompted for a password.. And it won't close (I don't know the password) The only way I can get it away is by terminating it in task manager. I have read alot of threads in here, where the solutions should be to uninstall Google Desktop..
I am trying to restrict a cell to only be able to input the letter "i" multiple times, almost like a tally sheet, in other words I want the cell to be restriced to one letter, but allow that letter to be entered multiple times.
I have a column of cells, some blank, some containing just numbers, some containing just letters, some containing numbers preceded by the the letter 'p'
E.g.
frt 34.2 36
p34.5
In the cells containing the number preceded by the 'p' - i would like to remove the 'p' leaving just the number, with all other cells remaining unchanged.
When I type a single lower case letter into a cell, what formula or conditional formatting should I use to always convert it to a capital letter automatically?
For the below formula is it possible to replace the B's (column location) with a cell Say Z146 which contains the letter B (or a number if thats easier and someone can tell me the numbers for each column).
When the formula is dragged into the next cell (down) it takes its column reference from Z147 and then my life becomes so much easier.
Is there a VBA command to get the letters, instead of the numbers, of the column of a selected cell?
I have to letter a list whihc means setting up a loop using character codes.
I may have to go into double letters so I am working on how I would set up the loop for if and when it gets past 90 and starts on double letters. so far the highest is the letter "U"
of course the easiest would be to pick up a column value as a letter
A2's validation is dynamic as it's selectables varies based on the selection made by the A1 Validation. (=indirect(a1)).
My problem is this....once if have selected from both validations...if I go back and change the A1 validation to a blank (or empty value) or clear the contents on that cell....validation A2's value remains as it was. I would like it to recognize that A1 is blank and also become blank (or goto an empty value).
I would like to know if it's possible to populate a data validation list based on what is selected from 4 validation lists?
for example: On sheet1: If 'Group1' is selected from data validation list1 then data validation list5 will show a list of all items from Group1. If 'Group2' is selected from data validation list2, then data validation list5 will display all the items in 'Group2'...
I'm trying to figure a to enforce dual data validation on a single cell. That is, I need to restrict the user to entering only a decimal value, only if a particular other cell (say A2) is blank. To put it another way, if A2 is blank, the user can enter a decimal value, but if A2 is not blank, the user cannot enter anything. I can use Data Validation to enforce either the decimal restriction or the ISBLANK, but I'm not sure how to make them work together.
I would like to create a column with letters from alphabet in a sequence. If I write A and in cell below I put B then highlight the two cells and drag down I get a repetition of A and B. How do I get the following alphabet letters ie. C,D, E etc.?
I created this data worksheet with many tabs and multiple users. On the main tab, something weird has happened and I have no clue how it happened or how to fix it....
