Loop Through Rows To Calculate Median For Several Dynamic Ranges With Numerical Data

Jul 6, 2006

loop that can calculate the median of dynamic ranges. I need to run through all columns and for each column find the the ranges (there are more ranges and they are seperated with a blank row) with numerical data and then calculate the median and thereafter continue down to find the next range with numerical data in that row and so on.

How To Loop Through Dynamic Ranges Using Columns Rather Than Rows

Jun 23, 2014

I have a list of several hundred columns, beginning with column "G:G", with varying numbers of rows of data in column - each row dipicting a monthly data point. I'd like to average the numbers in each column (need to average over the appropraite time-frame) and compare that average with the corresponding average (same time-frame) for benchmark (column"F:F"). The problem is I don't have the same number of data points in each column; some have data points for every month for the past 33 years, and some just a few years; almost all have differing beginning and ending dates as well.

Calculate Mode / Median And Average Based On Data In 3 Columns

Aug 1, 2014

It's probably best if you open up the attached example spreadsheet that contains sheets "Before" and "After" otherwise it might be pretty difficult to understand what I'm talking about.

So I have this spreadsheet where I have part numbers in column B, status of the orders in Column I and lead times in Column M. What I want to achieve is to get of Mode (col N), Median (col O) and Average (Col P) values of each part number and each of its status using the lead times in Column M. If possible I would only like this on the top lines of each of these. I have done the formulas manually on sheet After so if you click on the formula you can see the range's it covers.

I did create a concatenation in column K (conc of column B and I) as helper column because in theory this might make things a little bit easier.

Now going into second part. I would also like to do something very similar but only using the part number and status "Finished" and get the values in columns T,U, and V on the top row of each part number. I made some blue boxes and arrows to kind of point out the idea.

The solution can be either formula based or macro, it really doesn't matter, however I will intent to use it within macro either way.

Rename Sheets By Using Dynamic Loop For Rows?

Jan 30, 2014

In column C I got some data like this:

Number of .csv
01
02
03
04

Number of .csv
05
06
07
08

Notice that there is an empty cell in between. The data starts at C12 up to C21. The data is in Sheet2.There are also 8 more sheets( Sheet3 to Sheet10). I want to rename each sheet, starting from Sheet3 according to each cell. For example the Sheet3 to be renamed to 01, Sheet4 to 02.

What I can do is something like this:

[Code] .....

And repeat this code for every block of data I got by changing everytime the i and the a. But this method is not so optimized because there are cases that the number of rows for each block is not the same and I have to change everytime the i counter. Is there any way to do 1 loop for all the sheets using maybe Worksheets.Count and another dynamic loop for the rows ? The data always start every 6 rows eg( C12, C18 etc). Also I was thinking to define an integer representing the number of rows for the loop...

Loop To Calculate Rows In Selected Range In Groups Not All At Once

Oct 9, 2008

How do I divide a range (number of rows will vary) into groups for calculation purposes?

I have a spreadsheet with too many dependencies to calculate properly (over 400,000). After I calculate I can delete the empty rows, and then there will only be a few hundred rows left and it will calculate just fine.

I think all I need is a loop that will break the range into groups and calculate the groups separately, but I'm very bad at loops.

This is what I need to break into workable parts.

Sub FilterTrue()
ActiveSheet.Calculate
Range(Range("AC16"), Range("AC16").End(xlDown)).Select
Selection.AutoFilter Field:=1, Criteria1:="TRUE"
Selection.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeVisible).EntireRow.Delete
Selection.AutoFilter
End Sub

Replace Numerical Data Column A, 11K Rows! VBA

Feb 8, 2009

Need to sort my data in column A which contains a long list of numerical data. To do this manually using copy and paste would be easy, but not viable because of the large amount of data.

The attached PDF file illustrates the data. I wish to replace each date of dirth entry in column A (one D.O.B. in each cell / row, expressed as YYYYMMDD) with the client identifier number (format 937XXXX) a couple of cells above. And at the same time delete the row containing the client reference (or its contents). The data in column A should retain the same relationship to the data in the other columns (B,C). it may require a short piece of VBA code.

Calculating Median / Mean And GeoMean Of Dynamic Range

Jul 10, 2012

I have a spreadsheet with Data in Columns A-H. Column B is an ID value that will repeat an unknown amount of times. For each Value in Column B I need to calculate the Median, Mean, and GeoMean for the corresponding range of "G_:H_"

Ex.
Column B
Column G
Column H

2
10
5

2
13

I need the Median, Mean, and Geo Mean values to paste in Columns N-P for each different Station Index. My code only calculates for the first Station ID

Here is the code for what I have so far

Code:
Sub Median()
Dim r As Long
Dim stndx As String
Dim i As Long
Dim x As Integer
Application.Calculation = xlCalculationManual

Sorting Data In Dynamic Ranges

Feb 6, 2014

In the attached workbook I have hard-pasted data in columns A:M that's designated as an Excel Table to make it dynamic.

In the adjacent columns O:AA I have formulae to extract data from A:M based on the "Frequency" stipulated in cell AD1,

I would like to be able easily to sort the data in the variable sized range in columns O to AA in descending order of the calculated values in column Z.

Best way to do this so that the formula don't get jumbled up or the blank cells in column Z end up at the top of the sorted data?

The problem is, when I sort the data in the table (I can't used the named ranges as it should exclude the first row which is the header), is there a way I can make it dynamic too??

**Attached, please find the example spreadsheet, I have only written the code for the first table.

Calculate MEDIAN Of VISIBLE Cells

Oct 5, 2009

I haven't been able to find the answer to this here, nor have my own fumblings worked... I would like to have a formula to calculate the MEDIAN value of a column's visible cells - or a formula which will include the only cells meeting a certain criteria from another column.

For example...
Column O contains a list of countries: US, China, England
Column M contains the values: 1, 5, 10, etc

I would like the result of the MEDIAN formula to change based on the criteria selected in column O (so if I pick US, only the values associated with US lines are included).

I could probably put a button on the sheet and do something in vba behind the scenes, but the user is specifically asking for a formula so he can maintain it himself.

Dynamic Ranges (data Exports From Another System)

May 19, 2009

I have a blank template spreadsheet that is copied every time I need to work on some data exports from another system (the data needs to be kept, hence the copying of the original blank template first).

I have set up conditional formatting using;

=MATCH($A1,range,0)

This formula is always in the entire column of row A in Worksheet1 (for the sake of argument)

Problem is in Worksheet2 where the range it's using to compare is always a different number of rows deep...it can be 70, it can be 2000. I always call the range 'interest'.

Is there anyway (in the blank template) of setting column A as a dynamic range called 'interest' so that after data import it automatically sets the range at the desired size?

Dynamic Named Ranges With Linked Data

Feb 4, 2010

I am using OFFSET to make dynamic named ranges- the only problem is that I'm having trouble using it with linked data-

The Situation:

-Cells A1:H500 are linked to another sheet, with each cell containing a formula like =IF(ISBLANK('C:...[workbook.xlsx]worksheet'!A1),"",'C:...[workbook.xlsx]worksheet'!A1)

-Currently only cells A1:H100 have data, but this is dynamic and will change

-I want a named range that will only select the cells with data in them...the problem is that COUNTA counts the link formula even if the cell is "blank" (because it isn't blank).

-I hate hard-coding ranges...the solution for the named range =OFFSET($A$1,0,0,500-countblank($A$1:$A$500),8) is ugly!

Any solution to making dynamic named ranges with linked data that may or may not be "" ?

Dependent Data Validation With Dynamic Named Ranges?

Aug 7, 2014

I am unable to use dependent data validation lists using the INDIRECT function when the initial named range is a dynamic one.

See attached.

The named ranges 'Men','Women','Children' are all dynamic based on number of entries in each column order to accommodate a growing list, whilst also not having blanks in the dropdown (hence I haven't used entire column ranges). The named range 'test' is a static one.

Column H has a dependent data validation based on entry in Col G. This works for the static list, but not the dynamic one!

List Data Validation Fails For Dynamic Ranges

Oct 1, 2009

I'm working on trying to maintain an inventory management sheet where i basically enter all the spare parts issued to vehicles. Now there are more than 700 parts dat form the components of a vehicle, so i decided to split this list into 12 spare groups(Gear, Engine, Body, Axle, etc etc..) and then based on wotever spare group being selected my sheet wud pull dat specific spare group list.
Since i've worked with indirect function before i thought this was a piece of cake!

However when i actually sat working on getting my sheet together i realised its not gonna be dat easy! Basically my spare group lists are a work in progress and so new items would/may be added to these lists as we start working on this sheet. So i decided to make them dynamic by using the offset function. But list validation fails when i use Indirect function on dynamic ranges!

Dynamic Named Ranges And Indirect Data Validation INCOMPATIBLE?

Sep 25, 2009

I can use a dynamic named range and a direct reference to the name and the DV works.

I can use a standard named range (not dynamic) and an INDIRECT() reference to a cell with the name of the range in it and the DV works.

But if I try to use a dynamic named range and an indirect reference to a cell with the name of the range in it, the DV fails.

Any workarounds out there? This project includes a LOT of DV lists, getting them to self-maintain is important if I can do it.

Dynamic Named Ranges Where Data Is Manually Added And Deleted

Apr 22, 2013

A lot of the Workbooks that I design for use by myself and colleagues require data to be copied in from external data sources. To avoid named ranges from failing, I always use the following method:

Calculate the length of the data set:

Code:
=COUNTA(INDIRECT("'Data Sheet'!"&"$A:$A"))

(There will be no gaps in the data, hence a count is fine.) This named range is called DSROWCOUNT.

Example named range for the data in column A:

Code:
=OFFSET(INDIRECT("'Data Sheet'!"&"$A$1"),1,0,DSROWCOUNT-1,1)

I use INDIRECT to ensure my named ranges do not fail if the data is deleted (accidentally or intentionally), as #REF! errors will occur.

The problem with this method is that it automatically makes the Workbooks volatile because of the use of OFFSET and INDIRECT, hence the Workbooks always needs to be in manual calculation mode to be usable.

Calculate Median For Multiple Non-Sequential Columns Based On Criteria

Sep 27, 2012

I have long series of data in 8 columns (B, F, J, N, R, V, Z, AD) starting at row 5 down to row 86404. I want to find the total median for each row, where a condition is met for that row. The condition is if number>10 and the number is located in row 3 for each column (i.e., B3 for column B). So, if B3, J3, R3 are all >10, then I want to find the median for all the numbers in the columns B,J,R.

I assume there is an array formula that could do this? I've tried a few solutions with no luck.

Dynamic Starting Point For Dynamic Named Ranges

Jun 21, 2009

I would like to replace the blue bit of this Dynamic Named Range (DNR) with an INDIRECT formula in order to modify the starting point for the DNR: =OFFSET(DATA!$C$60,0,0,20,1). Unfortunately, I can’t seem to get my INDIRECT formula to work in order to use it to replace the blue bit above: INDIRECT("'"DATA"'!&ADDRESS(MATCH('SHEET1'!AC8,DATA_Date,0)+22,3)"). The orange bit of the formula above returns a value of 60, therefore the ADDRESS formula should return $C$60, that can then feed into the INDIRECT and act as the equivalent of DATA!$C$60. But it doesn’t.

Loop Through Cells And Ranges Reverse Order With Backwards Loop

Aug 30, 2006

I am looping through each cell in a range and I would like to loop in reverse order.

Dim CELL As range
Dim TotalRows As Long
TotalRows = Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).Row
For Each CELL In Range("C1", "C" & TotalRows)
CELL.Select
'Code here to delete a row based on criteria
Next

I have tried:

For Each CELL In Range("C" & TotalRows, "C1")

and it does not make a difference. I need to loop in reverse order since what I am doing in the loop is deleting a row. I am looking at a cell and determining its value. If the value is so much, then the row gets deleted. The problem is that the next row "moves up" one row (taking the pervious cell's address) and therefore the For Each Next loop thinks it has already looked at that row.
