Does Excel can be used to read data from HDF files? Specifically, what I would like to do is this: I have an Excel worksheet with some latitude data on Column A and longitude data on Column B. I would like to open a HDF file, which contains many sets of data, out of which 2 are the latitude/longitude data, and a third set contains the data that I want to extract. I will use the latitude data in Column A to search through the first set in the HDF, which will return me the row number. I will then use the longitude data in Column B to search through the second set to return the column number. With these row and column numbers, I will then extract the corresponding data in the third set, and write it to Column C in the worksheet.
how to write a simple VBA code for it? Or point me to some relevant information?
I have an excel workbook that lists the number of mailboxes on several exchange servers. Because this info is put in manually by several people throughout the day there is a chance for mistakes. I can use remote desktop to get into these servers and check all these but when you have over a hundred (Enterprise Level) of these different mailbox stores to check, it takes a while and just isn't fun. I have a friend who made a vbscript file that can check them all but I don't have that code but now I know that it is possible...well with vbscript anyhow.
is it possible for excel to access a remote computer? and how would this be done? If needed to we can be already remoted into it I just need help with the Syntax of how to then access it via some VBA.
I have multiple worksheets spread across multiple Excel files (1 worksheet per file).
All files are stored in the same folder, and all worksheets have the same column headers and structure. I need a block of code that will combine all of these worksheets into a single worksheet in a master Excel file. That is, the code needs to:
1. Open the first Excel file.
2. Copy the first worksheet's contents into the first worksheet of the master file, beginning at the next empty row it finds.
3. Close the Excel file, and move on to the next file.
4. Repeat.
So in the end, ten worksheets residing on ten different Excel files will be combined into a single worksheet in a single file. No breaks are needed between them, instead, the last row of a worksheet would be followed by the first row of the next one immediately below it. No aggregate functions involved, no sums, nothing like that (which is why I don't think I can use the Consolidate function in Excel).
I am Generating Excel file with Macro using my asp.net (c#) application.
I am able to generate Excel file in development environment, but in Production it gives following error:
"Programmatic access to Visual Basic Project is not trusted Line: Microsoft Office Excel"
I did googling a bit and found that I have to open Excel file physically make few security related changes in macro as below.
1. Open the Office application in question. On the Tools menu, click Macro, and then click Security to open the Macro Security dialog box.
2. On the Trusted Sources tab, click to select the Trust access to Visual Basic Project check box to turn on access.
3. Click OK to apply the setting. You may need to restart the application for the code to run properly if you automate from a Component Object Model (COM) add-in or template.
Can i do above changes at runtime (using some code)?
Is there a way to prevent access to the code of a macro? I am interested in sending out some macro's, but would prefer that the user only be able to run them, and not be able to access the code via the edit button. Curiously, there have been occasion's where I wanted to edit my own work, but the edit button did not function, so I had to exit and start over to proceed. From this I'm guessing there must be a way.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a large excel file with lots of data that it takes a long time to manipulate in excel. What I would like to do, is to import it in access, do some manipulations, and export it in excel again.
All these have to be automatic, so that the user does not do anything. Is it possible to do so through some macro?
I have an access database that has many queries and in order to speed it up I have a Macro in access that runs it in no time, but I need to be able to run the query in access via a trigger in Excel and have come up with the below, but it's not working.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a CSV that I have a excel macro created to do some formatting and then export the data into Access. that part works. I also have it checking for duplicate entries and skipping them. The problem that i run into is that not all my duplicates are truly duplicate, there have been updates and now i need to update Access. I have 2 fields, my primary key which is what I'm primarily matching on and then I'm checking if its been updated by checking another field "Last Changed" If this field doesn't match then I need to update the record.
At this point I'm trying to use a SQL UPDATE and I now believe that i have it formatted correct but when it gets to a record that needs to be updated I get an error: Run-time error '-2147217887 (80040e21)': The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key or relationship. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. the only other thing i could think to do would be to check each field to see if it has changed and just run the query against that but I feel like i would run into the same issue.
This is how I'm connecting to Access:
Code:
strTableName = "TableName"
strDBLocation = "xxxxuserhomexxxxxxxxxxxxDatabaseDatabase Backend.accdb"
strConnect = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0; Data Source=" & strDBLocation & ";"
Set cn = New ADODB.Connection
cn.Open strConnect
Set rs = New ADODB.Recordset
rs.Open strTableName, cn, adOpenKeyset, adLockOptimistic, adCmdTable
And this is the Query I'm using:
Code:
strSQL = "UPDATE " & strTableName & " "
strSQL = strSQL & "SET [Work Order ID] = '" & Range("B" & r).Value & "', "
strSQL = strSQL & "[JOBSTATUS] = '" & Range("C" & r).Value & "', "
strSQL = strSQL & "[SUBSTATUS] = '" & Range("D" & r).Value & "', "
strSQL = strSQL & "[Job Status] = '" & Range("E" & r).Value & "', "
strSQL = strSQL & "[STATUSDATETIME] = #" & Range("F" & r).Value & "#, "
[Code] ..........
The SQL code sits in a loop with an IF so it shouldn't execute every time and I plan on once i get this working to revisit this code and try to optimize it but that is not a priority currently.
I'm using both Excel 2007 and Access 2007 on XP.
I am attempting to run a MS Ecel macro that is stored on a MS Excel shared file in a MS Ecel target file (locally stored on my C drive) from a VBA module in Ms Access. That is, from a code i want to open the .xls file that houses the macro, and then open the .xls file that i want to run the file in, and then run the macro.
Here is my situation: the file that houses the macro has the workbook hidden and causes in error.
if i unhide the workbook i get a Run-Time Error 91...object variable or With block variable not set.
if i hide the workbook the vba coding can't find the macro...run time error 1004
once again, i currently have an excel file that houses macro whose workbook is hidden.
does anyone know how this can be accomplished?
here is the ....
I manually copy a variable number of rows from an Excel worksheet and then paste/append them into an Access table.
I would like to have a macro for this to automate the process a bit, and I can always add the code to a button or menu item later.
Data setupRange starts at A11:X11
Number of rows to copy will vary depending on the data within the sheet
I have an xl doc in which one of the sheet's column A changes value every 1 hour...
What I would like to know is.. if there is a method in which i can copy these values from column A to a text file every hour...
The range of cells containing values in Column A also varies every hour.
Also, the old values in the text file needs to get deleted before the new values are updated every hour.
I have written a macro. The macro in question simply shows a user form. There is far more code within the user form itself. It is designed to automatically format a workbook.
I saved the macro as an .xlam add-in file to the default folder. I then added a button for the macro to my Quick Access Toolbar. This seemed to work great.
However, when I open a new file that I want to run the macro on, the button disappears. In fact, a 2nd Excel window opens up on my task bar. The original window still has the macro button, but the new window does not.
I would like to know how to migrate an Access database to a spreadsheet, I do not mean Exporting.
More specifically, the migration is conditional. The spreadsheet only needs a few fields from specific tables in the database. It is basically a data dump, however, the magnitude of the amount of information that I will be handling will be far too time consuming and not within the scope of the budget to do this all by-- Exporting-->Copy-->Paste method.
Also, changes often need to be made "The night before..." so the macro will need to be able to ran possibly a number of times to update the additional data or changes in data.
In my research I have found a few snipets of VBA code from the MSDN website as well as some other websites, however none of it seems to be consistent with one another and ultimately results in it not working.
Is this possible?
My task is to somehow access [url] and copy the exchange rates on the table to my Excel workbook. Obviously a macro will not record outside of the Excel program, so I am just wondering if this is possible at all (without hacking of course). My plan B is to have the user manually enter the exchange rates.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm doing some extremely repetitive work with a web tool at work. I need to import about 1800 tables for my first assignment and 5000 for my second. I did a search on the forum and found out that Excel and vba is able to import tables from a website's chart which is amazing. I recorded a macro and got
Sheets("Sheet2").Select
Range("A1").Select
With ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add(Connection:= _
"URL I can;t give out this information" _
, Destination:=Range("A1"))
.Name = "index"
.FieldNames = True
.RowNumbers = False
.FillAdjacentFormulas = False
.PreserveFormatting = True
.RefreshOnFileOpen = False
.BackgroundQuery = True
.RefreshStyle = xlInsertDeleteCells
.SavePassword = False.....................
For each session I have to go to my site, log in with a username and password which is the same everytime then go to a specific page select the right drop down and import chart. The Chart under the drop down is the chart I need to import. The macro I recorded has no problem doing this but however it keeps grabbing the same chart, how do i fix that, so it knows to select the right drop down then import the right chart?
i am running a macro thru vba (beiing called from a ms access module) and am getting a RuntTimeError 1004.
the code opens a workbook...then open a second workbook (which houses the macro) then activates the desired worksheet and call the Maco via the run command but errors out.
if i open the workbook and set focus on the desired sheet ....tool>macro>desired macro name it runs fine.
the line of code in the macro is: "ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Activate"
I have an Excel file ( named "Classes.xsl"), that has a worksheet (named "RawData") that is layed out something like:
Name Dept Class
John 0547 Class 1
Jane 0368 Class 1
Jim 0368 Class 2
Sue 1235 Class 2
I am trying to get an Access-Like report without utilizing Access. Is there a way to generate a report similar to below using Excel as the data source (could be mail merge, perhaps a macro with a printout) I am not sure which way to try and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction...and possibly provide an example.
Class EnrollmentClass 1John 0547
Jane 0368Class 2Jim 0368
Sue 1235
The macro firstly formats the data that is pasted into it from an access database, then it does some calculations to determine when 10 working days from a specific date is, and when 20 working days from the date is (these go in new columns at the end of the data). The macro will also add new columns which say "Not resolved" if there is no date in the Resolution column, "Yes" in the "10 working days met?" column if the condition is met and the same for 20 workings days in a different column. As the colouring etc takes a long time I really wanted to add as conditional formatting to the macro!
how to attach a spreadsheet here then I can show you what the outcome we want is. A point to note is that there is not a set number of rows each time we do this, and I don't just want 1 cell to be coloured - I want to specify which cells in the row are coloured depending on the results in another cell on that row.
i need to make a macro that takes workbooks or files and
runs them through another macro. i already have the 2nd macro
done and it is working perfectly i just need to know how to make the one
that finds the other files and runs them all through the macro i already made. My boss said that he will have about 150-200 files to run through this macro.
I have this macro that a friend of mine wrote on a windows machine, and I can't quite figure out the code changes needed for OS X. For someone who knows how to do this, I'm sure it would only take a second, but I've been banging my head against the wall on this thing for too long.
Option Base 1
Sub Data_Compiler()
Dim FileSelected
Dim FileName
Dim CompiledDataArray(1 To 30, 1 To 53) ' Array to store our statistics
Dim Counter1 As Integer
Counter1 = 1
FileSelected = Application. GetOpenFilename("Your Files,*.xls", , "Select Files", , True)
If StrComp(TypeName(FileSelected), "boolean", vbTextCompare) = 0 Then Exit Sub
For Each FileName In FileSelected
Application.DisplayAlerts = False................
I can get a "open files" dialogue box to pop up, but I can't figure out how to make sure that multiselect is enabled. I need to be able to run this macro on 11 files at once.
How to create a macro that selects only the 2nd file in a folder to be opened instead of every file.
So far the code below is opening every file.
Sub ConsolidateAll()
Dim wkbConsol As Workbook
Dim wksConsol As Worksheet
Dim wkbOpen As Workbook
Dim wksOpen As Worksheet
Dim FolderName As String
Dim FileName As String
Dim Cnt As Long
Application.ScreenUpdating = False

There is a directory (K:/Munka) which contains many many Excel files with different names. What I would like to have is a macro which automatically opens and copies the content of each file into a new excel file, so I do not have to open so many files one by one and copy and paste the content of these file into a new file. Can that macro be created?

I cannot find a way to enable it to launch pdf files as well (e.g. C:Documents and SettingsHenryDesktop est.pdf)
I want to loop through all files in a directory and run a macro named "Main" in each file. The file that contain the loop-macro will stay in the same directory as the files I loop through.
