Macro: Paste Not Allowed
Jan 19, 2009I work with large charts with many users updating them. With people not following directions metrics are getting messed up. I'm trying to come up with a macro that when someone tries to paste from a different version, or something they copied earlier, the workbook/worksheet will not allow it, so that they have to type in the required information to avoid errors. I'm now working in Excel 2007. It would be nice just to have this option within the program without having to lock down the workbook.

Method To Highlight Any Cell That Contains Anything But Allowed Set Of Words
Jun 26, 2013I have a data set containing text (no numbers) that spans several columns and rows. I have a list of 'allowed' words (about 100 words) that can be in these cells. If a cell contains a sentence with a word that is anything other than these allowed words it should be somehow marked. Ideally the 'wrong' word itself is marked, but it would already be very useful if the cell that contains the word is marked in some way.
I tried conditional formatting, but it seems to only allow formatting cells that contain a certain word, not if it doesn't contain certain words. Is there a function or a script that would be able to do this?
Simplified example:
Say you have four allowed words:
Apple
Pear
Orange
Banana
You have the following cells:
>Apple Banana
>Pear Pear Orange Pear
>Banana Apple Orange Kiwi
The third cell should be marked because it contains a word outside of the set.
Comparing A Phone Number To An Allowed List
Feb 20, 2007I have our company telephone accounts and im trying to highlight any numbers that are not on our approved dialling list. What I would like to happen (ideally) would be for a formula to look at the cell next to it and compare it with the approved numbers list, if it doesn’t appear on the list then it would do something to let me know, like put a big red X in the cell (if it could make me a cup of Tea instead that would be better).

Aug 15, 2013Im building a booking/diary system for work.My system runs 9am till 5pm, 10 min slots. The team is 4 people. So I have 4 columns, one per team member, and each row is 10 mins. 9am, 9.10, 9.20 and so on.
I want to limit it so that if say 2 people already have something in at a time it wont let another person type in that slot. I would prefer a none VBA sollution if possible due to the ancient computers in running it on, but not too fussed if thats the route I go down (as I suspect I will)
The sollution I was considering was having a COUNTA for each range, and if it is 2 or over, not let people type into the other slots. This would also let me add exceptions by using a COUNTIF to minus other characters if needed, but im not sure if I can make excel "block out" a time slot. My other sollution would be similar, but have them to autopopulate the empty cells with an "X" if they are 2 or over as thats what I use to block out slots (breaks, lunches etc)
My other problem is that if they then type into the cell, it will obviously type over the formula, which makes me think it will have to be VBA.

Excel 2007 :: Not Being Allowed To Input Formula With Reference To Another Workbook
Feb 13, 2012I am having trouble making any formula references between 2 different workbooks.
For example, I being typing out my VLOOKUP function on 1 sheet, as soon as I get the table argument, I switch over to the other workbook in which the table is, and I no longer have the VLOOPKUP function active.
I am having this problem for any formula in which I am trying to reference this workbook.
I have ensured they are both saved as Excel workbook documents. I am using Excel 2007

Too Many Arguments ..
Oct 17, 2009I am trying to make changes to the Y column where the calculation now looks at column C to see what is entered in that column. If it is "Futures" then it runs the existing formulas but if it equals "Forex" I want it to use the value in column D as the multiplier, where the Futures option uses the hlookup to get the correct multiplier from the Variables sheet. If column C is either "Options" or "Stock_ETF" then i want to just subtract column I from column Y times column P.
I attempted to add additional IF AND functions but got the error message "Too many arguments", so now i am not sure where to go from here.

Dec 2, 2009I'm getting the error that tells me I have more than 30 arguments when trying to get an average of cells across a row. The biggest issue is that I don't want to average all the cells in the row, just some of them.
I tried writing an IF statement for it and failed. What I want is every fourth cell to be totaled into the average. Another way to look at it is that I want every cell under the heading "south" to be totaled into the average.

How To Call Sub With Arguments
Sep 30, 2013I've heard of calling a sub with arguments but don't believe I'd done it in the past. I want to remove the empty rows in 3 worksheets so that my row count actually stops where the existing data does. The second sub is where that takes place. What is the best way to call the sub to execute on the three sheets?
My thinking had been that if I used the argument ws as worksheet I could simply call the sub with the worksheet name as the argument.

More Than 30 Arguments: SUM & AVERAGE
Feb 21, 2009I've created a spreadsheet that calculates both the SUM and the AVERAGE on 2 different rows. So far, so good.
The problem I've come across is that there are 35 different numbers (arguments?) that have to be calculated and from what I see, Excel has a limit of 30.
Is there a way for me to get around this?
If it'll help, I can send the spreadsheet to you so you can see what I'm talking about in the event I didn't properly explain it here.

Excel tells that it will accept up to 255 arguments in a COUNT function, but it'll only let me include:
=COUNT(F156,F152,F148,F144,F140,F136,F132,F128,F124,F120,F116,F112,F108,F104,F100,F96,F92,F88,F84,F80,F76,F72,F68,F64,F60,F56,F52,F48,F44,F40)
I have to use this exact same formula as a SUM function as well, but am having the same problem. Neither SUM or COUNT will take all the arguments.
I've attached the file. The tabs in red are the worksheets that won't accept the formula. The green tabs worked fine (they all had less cells to include than the sheets in red.)

Nov 25, 2009Im trying to build a little database and the closest thing i have come to manage what i want to do is with IF and Vlookup function.
I have 1 "main page" lets call it "sheet1"
Then i have nomerous of "secondary pages" we call them "sheet2", "sheet3" etc.
The idea is that on my "main page" im using 3 colums "A","B" and "C". "A" and "B" helps deciding where my VLOOKUP function should find the correct value.
The "A" column is planned to decide in what sheet to look for seach word(which is written in "C" column)
Basicly if "A1" is saying "2" its gonna do my VLOOKUP in "sheet2" , and if "A1" sais "3" its gonna look for my "search word" in "sheet3" etc.
My formula at this point (witch is working for 2 pages)
=IF(A1=2;VLOOKUP(B1;sheet1!A1:B6;2;FALSE);IF(A1=3;VLOOKUP(B1;sheet2!A1:B6;2;FALSE)))
This is working perfectly.
If i write "2" in "A1" and "car" in "B1" VLOOKUP jumps to "sheet1" lookup "car" and return the value in the second column (in this case 2"
and if i write "3" in "A1" and keep "car" in "B1" VLOOKUP jumps to "sheet2" and return the carvalue for this sheet (in this case 22).
Then the problem
The problem is ofcourse that if i wanna continue with this formula in the same box, i wanna make it keep looking in more sheets depending on what number i have in "A1"
If i put number 5 in it goes to "sheet5" and look for "car" and return valuve.
But at this point the formula is too big for excel.
So i guess my question is. Is there any workaround for this? Can anyone come up how to approach this in another way? (im out of ideas)
Or am i doomed and have to learn programming to get my idea to work?
