Im building a booking/diary system for work.My system runs 9am till 5pm, 10 min slots. The team is 4 people. So I have 4 columns, one per team member, and each row is 10 mins. 9am, 9.10, 9.20 and so on.
I want to limit it so that if say 2 people already have something in at a time it wont let another person type in that slot. I would prefer a none VBA sollution if possible due to the ancient computers in running it on, but not too fussed if thats the route I go down (as I suspect I will)
The sollution I was considering was having a COUNTA for each range, and if it is 2 or over, not let people type into the other slots. This would also let me add exceptions by using a COUNTIF to minus other characters if needed, but im not sure if I can make excel "block out" a time slot. My other sollution would be similar, but have them to autopopulate the empty cells with an "X" if they are 2 or over as thats what I use to block out slots (breaks, lunches etc)
My other problem is that if they then type into the cell, it will obviously type over the formula, which makes me think it will have to be VBA.
Here's my problem. In column B, i wish to allow users to choose 15 items for which i have created a list using validation. Each cell in the range B1 to B15 will contain one item. I have managed to allow them to select only 15 items by locking the other cells and allowing only the range B1 to B15.
However, i need prevent users from entering more than 5 identical items from the list. They can only choose a same item up to a maximum of 5 times.
Would you guys have an idea of how i can get around this problem? I really need to prevent them from entering the same item from the list more than 5 times and not only warn them.
I have a code that I need to limit the entries allowed on an input box. I have got it limited to a single value ("S1") but I need to add a second ("S2"). If "S1" or "S2" is not enter I need the input box to reappear until the right value is entered.
My code:
Code: Repeater: dbl = InputBox("Enter the S1 or S2 for the rack location you are using", "Rack", "S1", 5, 275) If dbl "S1" Then GoTo Repeater End If
i want should be done as a function or VBa. I would like to have A Column so that only postive numbers can be entered. Disallowing 0 and below from being entered into cells.
I have our company telephone accounts and im trying to highlight any numbers that are not on our approved dialling list. What I would like to happen (ideally) would be for a formula to look at the cell next to it and compare it with the approved numbers list, if it doesn’t appear on the list then it would do something to let me know, like put a big red X in the cell (if it could make me a cup of Tea instead that would be better).
I work for a localizer of text heavy software. Our developers normally use a converter to pull text out of a file and insert it into the program. This text is normally input into an Excel file since it has to correspond with files/locations in the program.
Since the space on the screen of the program is limited, we often face character limits when inputting text into Excel. Now, one cell might hold up to 255 characters, and I could restrict that with data validation, but within one cell I need to restrict each line (with a hard return) to 30 characters to fit on the screen.
So for example I have a row of cells that look like: ....
I'm creating a spreadsheet (Excel 2003) in which a user enters data in several cells, each of which will permit different numbers of characters (to include spaces). For example, in the first cell, the user will be limited to 50 characters, in the second cell, the limit is 30 characters, and so on.
I found the data validation error alert feature, but want to give the user a cue that the entry is too long so they know to stop typing before moving to the next cell. If they only are alerted when they finish making the entry, they might not take the time to properly reconstruct the entry to meet the size limitation. I'm trying to make this more user-friendly.
Is there a way to set up the worksheet so the user knows that the entry is approaching the character limit? For example, each character filling an individual cell or having a display appear with a count-down for the number of characters remaining in the limit, or something similar.
I need to limit the number of Characters that can be inputted to the popup InputBox to just 31. How do I set MaxLength? Code I am using is listed below.
Code:
Sub NewRecipeSheet() Dim ws1 As Worksheet Set ws1 = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets("1. Recipe Master Sheet") ws1.Copy ThisWorkbook.Sheets(Sheets.Count) Application.Goto Reference:=Sheets("1. Recipe Master Sheet").Range("A1") Range("A1").Value = InputBox("Menu Item Name?") End Sub
Basically in cells b12:b26 (15 cells) I need to enter the type of item (which is limited to 2 items). I made a drop down list for that range which works perfectly, therefore the user can choose either item 1 or item 2 or blank. However, I need to figure out a way so that item 1 can be chosen a maximum of 10 times in the range, and item 2 can only be chosen 5 times in that same range..
I am assuming that you can't add that condition to the drop down list... So I was thinking of adding an extra column duplicating b12:b26 (c12:=b12 etc...)- and entering a data validation there.
I was going to enter the following:
if item 1 is chose : =NOT(COUNT($c$12:$c$26)>10) & if item 2 is chosen: =NOT(COUNT($c$6:$c$6)>5).
However, for some reason it doesn't work - it doesn't block the entry if I try to enter 11 item 1s or 6 item 2s.
I have a column that is filled with different names. Some names appear more than once. There is one name in fact that appears four times.
I am looking for a formula, or VBA if that's necessary, that will look through the range Y2:Y50, and return a value of 4, because the person that has the most duplicates, her name appears 4 times.
If everyone's name appeared only once, except for a person whose name was in that range twice, then the formula would return a 2.
I work with large charts with many users updating them. With people not following directions metrics are getting messed up. I'm trying to come up with a macro that when someone tries to paste from a different version, or something they copied earlier, the workbook/worksheet will not allow it, so that they have to type in the required information to avoid errors. I'm now working in Excel 2007. It would be nice just to have this option within the program without having to lock down the workbook.
I'm trying to write a code to import the excel file into access. Here is the code..
Private Sub Command8_Click() Dim strPathFile As Variant Dim strFilter As String Dim ahtAddFilterItem() As String Dim ahtCommonFileOpenSave() As String Dim lngFlags As Long strFilter = ahtAddFilterItem(strFilter, "Excel Files (*.xls)", "*.XLS")
To give this a bit of context, I am looking at running speed of an athlete. I am trying to determine the NUMBER of sprints in a session (aka >15 km/hr for example). To do this, I need to calculate the number of times a speed vs time graph surpasses 15km/h.
I would calculate two sprints (one beginning at time point 0.8, one beginning at time point 3). I can't work out how to calculate these sprints independently, rather than counting the total number of entries above 15km/hr (11 in this example).
I have a data set containing text (no numbers) that spans several columns and rows. I have a list of 'allowed' words (about 100 words) that can be in these cells. If a cell contains a sentence with a word that is anything other than these allowed words it should be somehow marked. Ideally the 'wrong' word itself is marked, but it would already be very useful if the cell that contains the word is marked in some way.
I tried conditional formatting, but it seems to only allow formatting cells that contain a certain word, not if it doesn't contain certain words. Is there a function or a script that would be able to do this?
Simplified example:
Say you have four allowed words: Apple Pear Orange Banana
You have the following cells:
>Apple Banana >Pear Pear Orange Pear >Banana Apple Orange Kiwi
The third cell should be marked because it contains a word outside of the set.
I keep getting an error in this code while trying to write the results of a query to a sheet in the current workbook. The error i get is 'operation is not allowed when the object is closed'... since i didnt close the recordset before trying to write the results to the worksheet, im at a loss to explain why im erroring...
Public Sub fillWorksheetWithData(dataSheet As Worksheet, conStr As String, sqlStr As String) 'clear datasheet LastRow = dataSheet.Range("A65536").End(xlUp).Row If (LastRow < 2) Then LastRow = 2 End If dataSheet.Range("A2:A" & LastRow).EntireRow.ClearContents
I'm looking to build a football data sheet on matches played with a column that adds up the last 3 match goals for the team in that row. I've only managed to get as far as adding up all goals for a team in a static date range using SUMIF. I imagine this is more complex and requires some kind of changing sum range that's relative to the cell I'm in.
I'm intermediate at best so any array formulas and VB script would preferred to be avoided if possible.
in the watered down example below, I'd like to add up all home team goals for Hereford in the last 3 matches, therefore excluding the game on the 10th (row 1) giving a total of 5. I'd like this formula to copy down from a13 to future matches and therefore update. So the next week's match will add goals for hereford from e13,e11,e8 but exclude e2, e5. Yes you've guessed it... I'm trying to work out recent team form to predict match outcomes for financial gain...
I have attached a workbook which I am trying to calculate the number of "Booked" entries there are between 0 -36 months, 36 -72 months, 72 - 96 months and 96 months plus, for some reason the 0 - 36 months is calculating correctly but the remainder aren't, the current formula that I am using is;
I want to have a function that counts the number of times each word appears, so in the cell next to each entry for "Superman" it would say 3, for "Bird" 2 etc. If I add another "Superman" it should then change to 4 next to each entry. Also, I will be adding new words all the time, so the function needs to be able to cope with that too.
I am trying to count the number of indentical entries in my spreadsheet. I got the conditional formatting to color indentical entries that have more than 2 entries. I need to know how multiple entries are in my spreadsheet. I am using =COUNTIF($A$1:$A$10000,A1)>2.
How do I automatically generate an Entry Number for each entry in a table?
I have a sheet to build up a database of information and a Userform for the data to be input through. Each time the user selects to create a new entry with the userform I'd like to be able to automatically provide a number (i.e. Entry 1 of 12) in the Entry Number field which will then be transfered back to the sheet.
In addition, if an entry is deleted from the sheet the entry numbers beneath the deleted entry will need to update.
I am having trouble making any formula references between 2 different workbooks.
For example, I being typing out my VLOOKUP function on 1 sheet, as soon as I get the table argument, I switch over to the other workbook in which the table is, and I no longer have the VLOOPKUP function active.
I am having this problem for any formula in which I am trying to reference this workbook.
I have ensured they are both saved as Excel workbook documents. I am using Excel 2007
I'm trying to make my formula work. It is working now but I need to add one more criteria and I can' figure it out. I need to get a number of entries that fall into this categories:
Now I need to get a count of entry either if there is a date >= Today()-90 or if it says "Closed" in C1. But I only need one of the two and I can' figure it out.
I have a long list of items. I would like to assign the same number to each of the replicates. I've been trying to expand on this: = COUNTIF($A$1:A1,A1). which increments the number for each replicate, but don't seem to be getting anywhere. The attached file might make it clearer what I'm after.
