On Selection Event
Apr 14, 2008
I would like to create some VBA code that changes the color of the cells I have selected, as soon as I let go of my mouse click. Additionally, is there a way to identify where the range begins and ends so I can test to make sure the range is inside a certain area?

I'm using the following code in a worksheet:
Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
col = ActiveCell.Column
Range("output") = ActiveCell.Offset(0, -(col - 4)).Value
End Sub
In case it's not obvious, the macro places the value in the active row and 4th column of the worksheet into the range "output".
The problem is, the worksheet is large and somewhat slow to recalculate. This macro forces a recalc on any selection change, but i only need it to run when the row selection changes, not the column.
I'm sure there's a straightforward way to reprogram this.

My screen flickers when I use the following code.
Code:
Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
Application.EnableEvents = False
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
Application.Calculation = xlCalculationManual
Dim WTH As Long
If Target.Row = 19 Then
WTH = 1
End If
Application.Calculation = xlCalculationAutomatic
Application.ScreenUpdating = True
Application.EnableEvents = True
End Sub
If I comment out the code, my screen doesn't flicker.
In the "Tmp = 1" line I was using the special cells method to color constants red (without selecting anything). When I use that code instead of the "Tmp=1" line, it takes about a second to change cells, and I see the "4 Processors Calculating Message" in Excel when the code fires--even if it's not in row 19.

I am using Excel 2007, and I have a macro (that is working) that I would like to run whenever there has been a new selection in a dropdown list on my worksheet. I have done this many times before in other workbooks, and I have always used:
Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
End Sub
To my knowledge this should trigger the macro when the dropdown selection changes. However, this time it is not working. The macro runs fine manually, but it does not run when the dropdown selection changes.

I've set up code where when a cell within a specified range of cells is selected, a macro will run. This works all well and good except for when a whole row, column or range containing the defined cells is selected, there is a run time error. There is no situation where I want multiple cells selected to run the macro, so I only want to run the macro when only a single cell within that range is selected.
Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
If Not Intersect(Target, Range("GoToRange")) Is Nothing Then
Application.Run "'Macro Test Current MY PFEP Metrics.xls'!PFEP_Filter"
End If
If Not Intersect(Target, Range("GoToRange2")) Is Nothing Then
Application.Run "'Macro Test Current MY PFEP Metrics.xls'!PFEP_Filter"
End If
End Sub
The ranges defined are non-contigious ranges.

As part of a program I'm writing in VBA (for Excel 2010), I have a textbox in a user form used as an interface to write a formula in cells in Excel.The resulting value of a formula from a cell is loaded up into the textbox. It would be shown in the textbox like "See 1.2 and 1.3" where the formula in the cell is
[Code].....
This is just used as an example but the principle is there. It is worth noting that I’m writing this for very inexperienced Excel users but I need them to be able to edit the string part of the formula without breaking the formula.
However where I’m struggling is to pick up a selection change event inside a text box already selected. I need to be able to check if the textbox.SelStart is within an address value or within the string in the textbox.
The event Enter won’t work if the user is already editing the textbox (i.e. typing stuff) and then clicking or using the keyboard arrow to move the cursor somewhere else inside the textbox. I don’t think the event Change is the solution either as it would mean that the user would have already typed something and as a result the formula may already be broken.
I have had a good look around and I didn’t find an event for a selection change inside a textbox. Does it exists and/or is there a way that would have the same result?

Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
If Not Application.Intersect(Target, Me.Range("R1C1")) Is Nothing Then
'do something
End If
End Sub
Now, that Private Sub works fine if you change the value of R1C1 manually or from another macro.
But if R1C1 is the cell linked to a list box, nothing will happen if you change its value by selecting different items in the list box.

When the macro was written it was working well. But when I tried to change it as a Worksheet_SelectionChange event nothing is happenning even though a choice is selected from drop down list.

Is there a way to write a Worksheet_SelectionChange (ByVal Target As Range) event in module after creating a sheet in VBA? I constantly delete a sheet, then repopulate it with a new one that is empty, but I need to add some code that happens if they should change a particular cell. It worked when I ran it on a worksheet without refreshing, but as soon as I cleared and repopulated the sheet, it was gone. Is there a way to preserve this?

I have the following code, which works perfectly:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim TotalDays As Integer
TotalDays = Range("C65536").End(xlUp).Row + 1
The code points to the next blank cell so the user can input a value. Each time the user enters a value I want to re-run the code so that the colour of the cell changes.
However I also want to perform various calculations on the sheet. However this means the sheet is being changed and so continually repeats my code.
How do I add the following, to my previous code?
Range("E8").Value = Cells(7, 6) * 2.5

If a user selects certain options from a drop down list created by cell verification (from list), is it possible to display an input box and have the resulting input populate on another worksheet in the workbook? I have an attendance template I'm working with and if a user selects OT (Over Time) then a input box is displayed prompting for how many hours. The overtime is then tracked on another worksheet.

I tried very hard to design a leave roster for user to mark their leave application. The criteria are as follows:
1. 4 applications per date
2. a region of worksheet (i.e. "A2 to H20) will be defined for users to "click" on the cells (within the defined region) to mark their application.
3. once a cell is clicked (i.e. marked), it cannot be altered.
4. each click will automatically increase the total by 1.
I got the following code to deal with the situation but user can still click on any cell outside the region (in fact I fail to define the region).
Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim m
ad = Mid(ActiveCell.Address, 2, 1)
m = Range(ad & 24).Value 'here a formula "CountA(A2,A20)" will be place in the cell (24, c).......................

I have attached a portion of an excel file I am using at the moment. What I require is a piece of VBA code which will allow me to copy selected data based on a combo box selection. What needs to happen is this :-
If the selection in the "Index" worksheet combo box related to "Month" in cell G19 is for instance "December", I would like the macro to compare this cell value to the cell values in cells C96, C124, C152, C180, C209, C236, C263 and C290 in the "Tech Services" worksheet and where the values match.......copy the commentary (Range C126:Z147 in December's case) to the range C34:Z55.

I am working on a project where user has to select an item from a listbox, however there is a condition that if user select an item, other items of listbox should be disabled so that he/she can not select any other item.
Is there any way to do that as I tried
VB : Listbox.enabled = False
and
VB : Listbox.locket = True
in Listbox - Click/Change but no desirable results got.

I want to have a drop down list in a cell so that the value in the cell can be only selected from two columns of data. Additionally once the data from the first column has been selected I want to be able to limit the inputs the user can select from in the second column.
e.g. In cell C115 I want to have the value BDS05.
I want to be able to select the value BDS from a drop down list of values and once that value has been selected I want to be able select 05 from a list of values from 01 to 14
If I select BCS as the first value then I want the second set of values to be limited to 01 to 02 etc.
I have read about combo boxes and list boxes and I'm a bit confused about the best way to achieve this (or even if I can).

I'm trying to build an investment calculator. Tried searching "calculator" as keyword but return nothing similiar.
There are eight cell : [ A ][ B ][ C ][ D ][ E ][ F ][ G ][h]
[ H ] is price of the leverage
[A] is X balance
[b] is X lot size
[C] is X amount of money use to get x lot
[D] is X percentage of money use to get x lot
[E] is X point gain
[f] is X money gain
[G] is balance + money gain
Ignore the formulae for leverage to determine 1 lot price. Take 1 lot = 250.
What I'm looking for is when I enter any value at cell B, C or D, it will automatically calculate the value for either B, C or D cell.
Let say, the balance is 10000.
If I enter 2 at cell B. Then, it will calculate the value for cell C & D.
If I enter 750 at cell C, then it will calculate value for cell B & D.
If I enter 25 at cell D, it will calculate value for cell B & C.
how to use OR Selection in excel.

I have a user input box (VBA) with two columns of data entry. The leftmost column has text boxes labeled color1, color2, color3, etc.. The rightmost column has text boxes labeled tag1, tag2, tag3, etc..
I have the TAB sequence set to go from color1 to tag1, color2 to tag2, color3to tag3, etc..
A user can inadvertently tab over the color1 (or color2, etc. columns) into the tag1 (or tag 2, etc. columns) column without entering data in the color column.
Is there coding to allow a TAB key entry to be a Change Event such that, if a user TABS out of color1 without entering data, a MsgBox could signal that they must enter data in the color1 field before they can continue?
Alternately, can you suggest a different approach? The goal is to require an entry in the leftmost column (color1) before they can proceed to the tag1 field. Of course, they are given a "Cancel" option.

I have a worksheet used for scheduling. When a members time is updated, it updates the counting cell for that time by subtracting 1 (thats simplified, the forumla is more complex than that).
I have five teams and five workbooks for each team to do it's own scheduling. In just ONE workbook, the Worksheet_Change() event has stopped executing. It's fine in the others. I renamed the workbook to archive it then put another workbook in it's place and now that one works just fine.
The workbook that I've archived, I hate doing that not knowing what would cause the Worksheet_Change() to stop being recognized. There is no code on the sheet or related to the sheet that would stop it or cause events to be cancelled.
I wanted to know if there is some secret keystroke combination that may have been inadvertently clicked that would cause events to firing or stop being recognized?

I have two workbooks that have the following
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim myColor As Integer
With Target
If Intersect(.Cells, Range("v:v")) Is Nothing Then Exit Sub
If IsEmpty(.Cells) Then r.Offset(, 1).Interior.ColorIndex = xlNone: Exit Sub
If Not IsDate(.Cells) Then r.Offset(, 1).Interior.ColorIndex = xlNone: Exit Sub
Select Case Month(.Value)
Case 1: myColor = 3
Case 2: myColor = 17
Case 3: myColor = 19
Case 4: myColor = 22
Case 5: myColor = 26
Case 6: myColor = 33
Case 7: myColor = 36
Case 8: myColor = 38
Case 9: myColor = 40
Case 10: myColor = 42
Case 11: myColor = 44
Case 12: myColor = 7
I have this code in 1 sheet in one of the books (and all other sheets work fine), and the same code in all sheets in the other book. Both books work the way it's supposed to.
My question,
Is it necessary to have the Worksheet_Change event in all the sheets (all sheets act on the code the same way) or is it okay for just one sheet?
Could I encounter a problem if in only one sheet?
I just don't see why I would have to add more size with the code in all sheets if it is not necessary.

I found this code on one of my many searches, that works great.
(can't remember where I got it or who wrote it, (My deepest apoligies to the author))
Public pRule
Sub butRulerToggle_Click()
pRule = Not pRule
Selection.Select
End Sub
Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
If pRule Then
For Each aCell In ActiveSheet.UsedRange
If aCell.Interior.ColorIndex = 27 Then aCell.Interior.ColorIndex = xlNone
Next
On Error Resume Next
For Each aCell In Application.Intersect(ActiveCell.EntireRow.Cells, ActiveSheet.UsedRange)
If aCell.Interior.ColorIndex = xlNone Then aCell.Interior.ColorIndex = 27
Next
End If
End Sub
My question:
This works in a sheet module. How can I put it in the This Workbook module so it works on all sheets.
By the way, what this does is highlight the whole row on a clik of a cell, leaving any color formating that was initially there alone.
Very useful if you are looking at say A10 and then want to look at Z10 without losing focus on the row.

There is a Workbook_Open event in VBA. Is there a Worksheet_Open event? I.e. I want to write some code that is applied when a worksheet becomes active/is displayed to the user.
E.g. I am in Sheet1. I click a button which links me to Sheet2, however in doing that I want the value of the Active Cell in Sheet1 to be displayed in A1 of Sheet2.
Is this possible? Is there another way to do this.
