View 5 RepliesHow to protect multiple sheets in a workbook and not having to protect them 1 by 1. I have copied and pasted all the different macro's/visual basic script that has been posted for that purpose, but I can't get it to work and I'm always getting an error. The error from visual basic says "compile error: invalid outside procedure" and then the visual basic screen shows the following:
Range ("AM52")
If Ans >= 0 Then
"+."
It does not like the "AM52" part because it is highlighted in the error message.
Also, the error I get from recording my own macro step by step is "Run time error 40036" from visual basic.
I'm trying to protect the contents of columns in multiple sheets in a workbook. I've tried to group the columns ( - months, i.e. sept, oct, nov 09 through to march 10) but when I go to Protection options the 'sheet' protection option is not available, all I can do is protect or unprotect the entire workbook.
I've also tried to protect the workbook, but individually set the specific columns in each sheet to be protected (repetitious but seemingly unavoidable), but this doesn't work well either as there's now a mix of a protected workbook and protected columns, both with individually set passwords to unprotect... which seems a bit silly.
There must be a way around this? - the columns are H, J, K and L, and the entire contents of the summary sheet '2009-10 Financial Year'... basically I'd like to be able to protect all of the contents of all of the cells here, ideally just with one password.
I am trying to create a way to protect and unprotect all sheets and the worbook by means of a Userform pop up interface.
I have managed to create the Userform but what the code will look like and where to place the VBA code that will make it work, Also i would like to automatically save the sheet/s as i switch between them. so that any updates made to the sheet will be automatically saved when i move to the next sheet and also when i protect or close the workbook.
I have a work book with many sheets and staff continue to mess this up so I would like to know how I can have a specific sheet called Instructions open when this workbook is opened preferably no macro's is this possible

I have a workbook that has worksheets that serve as data input pages for the user.
I have control boxes created by the forms toolbar.
I created a splash screen that is to be launched when the file is opened.
Instead, often the last sheet that the user was on when they last saved the file (usually but not always the worksheet called "Main Menu") is seen first.
I understand that not all the sheets can be hidden - that one must be unhidden.
So I created a sheet called "Background" that is a solid color with no gridelines.
Objective:
When the file is opened, I want the "Background" sheet to be seen first and then the splash screen to be initiated.
Now - when the user opens the file, the Main Menu worksheet is seen for a few seconds (or whatever the last sheet was on before it was last saved), then it disappears and the solid background screen is shown with the splash screen. When the splash screen ends, the "Background" sheet disappears.
Here is the code that I have in the workbook
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
Dim wks As Worksheet
On Error Resume Next
For Each wks In ThisWorkbook
If wks.Name "Background" Then
wks.Visible = False
End If
Next wks
End Sub
What has to be changed so that the first sheet that is seen upon opening the file is the "Background"; then the splash screen happens; then it returns to the Main Menu sheet?
I have created a spreadsheet some time ago and have been asked to improve on it but I'm rusty with VBA.
I have an automated ordering system that saves each sent order as the date e.g "05-04-2013.xls" but the management team want a graph with the data for the last 4 weeks compared. I have created a seperate workbook called "consumables report.xls" which has a column with the products listed followed by columns "Quantity" and "cost" which is repeated for the 4 weeks of the month.
I want to add a button to prompt the user to choose the saved order e.g "05-04-2013.xls" (all orders saved in same directory) to copy and paste the quantity and cost columns (c8,D69) into "consumables report.xls". I got this to work earlier but it would only paste the formulas and not the values. So I need
A prompt to open workbook
Copy range (c8,d69)
Close work sheet
Paste special .value (c8,D69)
I dont care if it has to open the workbook to copy the data as this will only be used once a month so it dosnt matter how slow the code is.

I have Monthly sales sheets that import my cash register data into them. I wanted to set them up to do everything without being there. So I have my task manager open excel at 9:30pm everyday and it runs the macro to import the data into the correct day of the month. Here is the workbook
open macro-
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
Dim dTime As Date
dTime = Time
If dTime >= TimeValue("9:30 PM") And _
dTime < TimeValue("9:40 PM") Then
ImportData
End If
End Sub
This is in my July spreadsheet only. So is there a way to make it know which month spreadsheet to open on the 1st of the month? So come August 1st it will automatically open the August workbook and input the data for the first day? By using the date?
I know of the password protect feature to open a excel file or workbook, but does anyone know if this can be done for opening a worksheet.
I want to be able to view a worksheet after a password is entered, so therefore different worksheets have different passwords.
I have a workbook with 8 sheets. I have hidden two of the sheets and want to lock the rest from people editing, and stop them from unhiding the hidden sheets
I go to tools>protection > protect workbook
After typing in the password this doesnt protect the workbook as i am still able to edit the cells.
how to lock the all sheets and stop them from being edited?
Is it possible to protect an excel file such that it will open up only on designated computers (identified by the computer name or some unique hardware identification like MAC address etc)?I was wondering if the VB editor can be used to do the same.
Let me put my requirement in detail:
I have an excel file "123" created in one computer (named=A). On this computer this file can be opened by anyone.I write a code such a way that, this particular file when copied on to other computers say (B,C & D) would open up as usual. But on computer E or any other computer, it should not open.
I cannot use password protect feature on the file as "n" number of users will be accessing this file on those designated computers. I was finding few of the clients copying the files on their personal drives or email without proper consent.If its possible, I would like to employ the same on few of my word (.doc) files as well.
I have a presentation that I open from a short-cut. After the "Welcome Page" is opened, I want to open a second workbook in a new instance of Excel after 4 seconds.
I think that I can open the new instance of excel, but I don't know how to activate the macro after 4 seconds.
I'm sure there is a function someplace for this that can be used in a macro.
Then, after the second Workbook is opened, I want the Welcome Page "Workbook" closed, leaving the second Worbook open.
I have a workbook with some sheets password protected and other sheets not protected.
I have a macro that unprotects the sheets, but it requires the password to be typed multiple times.
I want to put the password into the macro so it doesn't require manual entry of the password lots of times.
Each sheet has the same password, so I would expect to enter it for the first sheet only.
What I have came from a simple macro recorder selecting each sheet in turn:
Sheets("wages").Select
ActiveSheet.Unprotect
Sheets("Comparative").Select
ActiveSheet.Unprotect
i use a macro to protect several sheets in a workbook.
When i protect the sheets, i only want to be able to cells and nothing else. How should i mdify the code below to do this? I tried record the macro and un checking the "select locked cells" box which is one of the only 2 boxes checked. It works, but then when i save the wb and re-open it it allows me to select locked cells.
Sheets("FF - WC").Select
ActiveSheet.PROTECT DrawingObjects:=True, Contents:=True, Scenarios:=True
Sheets("FF - UR").Select
ActiveSheet.PROTECT DrawingObjects:=True, Contents:=True, Scenarios:=True
I have a workbook that has a sheet for every day of the month (1 to 31).
When it opens it automatically activates the sheet for the day corresponding today.
What I'm missing is how to enable users to only update that sheet.
Example today is the 1st, sheet 1 should be unprotected but all others protected and off course tomorrow it should be sheet 2.
I wanted and the solution is on two sheet which I grouped, make copied and move into a new book. This is fine, but then I want my code to lock/protect all of my sheet in my program document, this can't be done with my current code because the sheets are group.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a workbook with several Sheets. I wish to automatically protect all sheets with specific user permissions, i.e. Select Unlocked Cells, Insert Rows, Use Auto Filter and Edit Objects, as I would have available when using the manual approach. Also, I wish to invoke a Password in the process.
Additionally, I need this code to operate when the file is Saved or Closed... transparent to the user.
Is there anyway to prevent certain sheets from be deleted?
i know there is protect workbook, but that prevents the user from deleting any sheet
I have a workbook where I password protect each sheet. Is there any way to quickly unprotect all sheets, make changes then protect all sheets. I cannot seem to do this by grouping multiple sheets. the option to unpropect/protect is not available.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a workbook with 7 tabs called "Sat" thro to "Sun". I'd like a macro which
a) protects the sheets as an array (as opposed to individually)
b) preferably uses a password
Using Excel 97 on Windows NT
I have a excel file with around 8 sheets in it and this file puted in the network to be shared with 8 persons So i need to make an individual password for each one to enter to his specific sheet and have full authorization to make anything in it and this done using userform where each one when open the file in the network , a user form open in first stage to select his name and put his own password with the ability to let each one to make his own password or change it from the userform
this file is shared so it may more one user open it and it may be there an save funtion at same time ( same time & same activities )
Is there an easy way (using a macro) to unprotect and protect sheets?
Most sheets in a certain workbook are protected except a few cells that are open for manual entry. Because I have links to other cells in other workbooks, I must unprotect those sheets/fields before I can edit the links. And I MUST ensure all sheets are protected again when I'm done with my work.
Also, is it possible to password-protect that specific macro so I'm the only one who can run it to unprotect and protect?
I have a series of workbooks where multiple users are entering data. Most of the cells are locked, and the worksheets are password protected. From time to time, I have to make global changes to all the workbooks. I've recorded a macro to open all the workbooks, but now, I'm running into a problem because for speed, I'd like to unprotect the worksheets and "re-protect" them without having to enter the password 3 million times (exagerration, but not much). What is the proper syntax of code to have VBA enter the password automatically (it is the same for all sheets).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a spreadsheet with over a hundred tabs, each of which need to be password protected (same password).
I found code on CFO.com that got me half way there. It protects all the spreadsheets, but it does not password protect the macro itself, meaning that anybody can step into the macro and unlock everything at the click of a button.
The code looks like this.
VB:
Sub ProtectAllSheets()
For Each ws In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets
ws.Protect Password:="secret123"
Next ws
MsgBox "All Worksheets Protected"
[Code] ....
What can I do to prevent people from stepping into the macro, or prompt a password to actually use the macro itself?
I have a workbook with 6 tabs. The workbook is designed to be shared but I want to password protect the last 4 sheets so that they can only be accessed by certain people. The people who have access need to be able to edit the sheet.
