Open File In Directory With Part Of Filename As String
Mar 11, 2014
I have a Workbook "forecast.xlsx" and several Workbooks which have a individual Number in the Filename (E.g. "3960........xls", "3961.......xls etc.) in the same directory as "forecast.xlsx" + projects"
Now, I would like to browse through "forecast.xlsx" in column H, searching for hyperlinks. In Column H are these Projectnumbers located which are used in the filenames above. Whenever the Cell cointains a hyperlink, following should happen (that far i managed it by myself):
- Store the Cellvalue in a String Variable
- Go to the Directory this.workbook + projects
- browse this folder, searching for a File which contains the stored string in its filename
- open the file
- copy a range
- close file
- follow the Hyperlink which has been stored as String before
- paste selection
- continue browsing through column H, looking for the next hyperlink.
I have a VBA which runs bugless, but it copies the wrong range, but to the correct destination.
See the code below:
Dim cell As Object
For Counter = 1 To 1000
Set cell = Worksheets("Projects overview").Cells(Counter, 8)
If cell.Hyperlinks.Count > 0 Then
I am looking for some VB to import multiple csv files, stored in a single directory, into a single excel worksheet. However I am looking to also include all or part of the filename, so to differentiate each file.
I've attached an example spreadsheet, inc the below code, of what I am trying to achieve.
Current code is (this parsers all .csv files in the specified folder into a single worksheet):
I have a csv file named "BB31_2013-08-01". I would like to open this file via vba and this is not my only file. I also have another similar fileames such as "BB31_2013-08-08", therefore, I try to create some function like yyyy, mm & dd where I can modifie it easily for next file.
I have a directory folder with an active workbook and another workbook id like to copy data from. The Following macro opens up a file in the same directory, copies some data and pastes it in the active workbook. However with this code I have to specify the filename, 'Data.xlsm' in the example code. I would like it to copy data from the only other workbook in the current directory WITHOUT having to specify the name in the code, so just opening it up no matter what filename it has.
In addition I would like to extract the filename from the workbook im copying data from and paste it into the activewoorkbook in sheet 1 Cell A1. I had a look at getopenfilename function but cant seem to make it work for my purpose.
I would like to create a macro to open a file in Excel 2007. My problem is that the filename changes often. After updates are made the filename is changed and the old file is moved to a backup folder. So, there is only one similar file in the folder
My filename is "RFQ Worksheet 7 29 2008.xlsx". The path is "C:Documents and SettingsahaynijDesktop".
I have numerous sub directories, C:/Jobs/12500 – 12599, C:/Jobs/12600 – 12699 etc, within these directories exist spreadsheets with file names like 12675.xls (in this case it’s in the “12600 – 12699” directory). In my open spreadsheet, in cell A1, there is a job number, say 12675. I want to find and open the existing 12675.xls spreadsheet. If the spreadsheet does not exist, a template (Costing.xlt), in a fixed directory, is opened and then saved, in the correct sub directory i.e. C:/Jobs/12600 – 12699/12675.xls. I am now using the following code, but the directory is fixed. How can it be modified to work with variable directories?
On Error Resume Next Workbooks.Open Filename:="C:Spreadsheets" & Range("A1") & ".xls" If Err <> 0 Then Workbooks.Open Filename:="C:SpreadsheetsCosting.xlt" ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs "C:Spreadsheets" & Range("A1") & ".xls" End If On Error Goto 0
Am working on a procedure to open all files in a folder and copy some data from the files into another workbook (master). I have this piece of the code. However, I also need to get the filename (from which data was copied) and paste this into an adjacent cell in the master (so I know which file each data point came from).
I have create a menu with buttons that are attached to the different projects of vba. This menu will be put in the server of my department so all my colleagues can take profit of the macros. Is a menu in an excel file that only contains the vba projects, not the sheets where the macros are supposed to run. My problem start when you want to open the file. It will always be in the same disk "P:COAP", and then there are more subdirectories (year, month)... so the total path, for example, this month is:"P:COAP2007200706". But every month, it changes, logically.
The problem is that i need to open a file with the name "COAP-200706 Concentració Empresa Emissora" in this case... the only thing that changes is month, and year... I want to close the booke i choose, to avoid errors, if the name of the workbook chosen is different to a part of this string. In this case, i'm trying to close the book if the name of the file or the book don't contains the string "Concentració Empresa Emissora", without saving changes, of course... because sometimes people have chosen badly the files and they've made a disaster. If the file chosen contains this string in the name i want to continue with all the code that is written after.
ChDrive "P:" ChDir "P:COAP2007" NouFitxer = Application. GetOpenFilename If NouFitxer = "" Then Exit Sub Workbooks.Open Filename:=NouFitxer If ActiveWorkbook.Name <> "*" & "Concentració Empresa Emissora" & ".xls" Then Msg = MsgBox("Error in the file opened. Look at the name of the file next time." _ & vbCrLf & "The program will close without finishing the process. Start again. Thanks", _ vbOKOnly + vbCritical, ("END OF PROCESS")) ActiveWorkbook.Close Savechanges:=False Exit Sub End If
I have one excel file and i want to see the VBA code without open excel file. because when i open that excel file automatic delete userform and save then open that file. i have a second copy of that file in that file there is a one other option to see and learn from it. 1.my computer security is High but when i open the file one userform is come and ask me about enable or desable the macro when i check the box that file is open and run properly.
and after that never ask for Enable or desable the macro, every time that file is open in high security without ask..security. for your information many vba code in that file. i have only one question how see the code without open that file ?
I'm on excel 2010 and I have a small group excel files I open everyday. Most of the files are static in name and location. I've got a macro created to open those files, which works fine with workbooks.open and the file path.
There are two report files I want to incorporate into my macro of workbooks to open. The files are created weekly and the files names have the following format: "Report Name (YYYY-MM-DD).xlsm". I don't want to use the file's last modified date because older files may get edited after the more recent ones are created. The files are also not always created on the same day, so the solution needs to be flexible enough to not refer to a specific day of the week or anything.
Macro open an excel file based on the latest date found in filename.
1 I need to open a csv file in order to use data in it at location "C:BarkingEMCIN" to input into an xls spreadsheet. I then need to use the info from the xls spreadsheet along with other info input by users to produce another .csv and it be deposited at "C:BarkingEMCOUT"
The name of the file at "C:BarkingEMCIN" will change everyday or even multiple times a day and be in the format "AVA_DA_260208_BPL_EDF_001.CSV" "AVA DA " will remain the same "260208" will be todays date the next 2 will be interchangeable depending on requirements and use BPL EDF and SSE will be interchangeable depending on requirements and 001 will be the version whcih will be changable. _ underscores will be used as seperators
They will then be save in the format "NOM_DA_260208_BPL_EDF_001.CSV" using the same prinipals as before but automatically saving as the next available when needed with a prompt to tell the user what it will be
the Data Grabs and pastes perfectly now but the Macro copies the data from the open file - the problem is that every day the filename (eg stats_01_02) changes according to the date so what I want to know is how to have the macro copy the data from an open file using just the first part of the filename.
Utilizing Excel 2009, I am trying to look for a solution that will allow me to compare a column which contains a list of filenames i.e. "832423.wav" to a directory which contains those files to see "832423.wav" is present in that directory such as "C:UsersBDocumentsAudio Files". If there is a match then the row is highlighted. Is that possible?
I created folder on my desktop to hold various documents. I have master excel document which contains forms and command buttons that open documents from same folder. Is there a way to change code instead of having full file path to specify current directory. I'm worried that if I move this folder to another location then my open file button will not work since location is changed.
Also when I open with command button word document, I have a button on word document to close. I can close document but word application is still active. Can I close word application with the document at the sam time. This is the code I'm using: "ActiveWindow.Close"
I have a requirement to search workbooks in a particular folder with specific string in file name. For example, let us assume I need to find a file which contains the name 'RR' in it. The position of 'RR' will vary with files i.e. 'RR' might be present either in the beginning, middle or at the end of file name. All I wanted is to search for file with 'RR' and do some activity and close the file and then goto next file. Similarly, the next search has to be performed with the files containing the name 'BB' in it.
For Each rng In Selection If rng.Offset(0, 4).Value <> "" And InStr(1, rng.Offset(0, 4).Value, "http") = 0 Then FileCopy SourcePath & rng.Offset(0, 4).Value, ThisWorkbook.Path & "" & DestPath & "" & rng.Offset(0, 4).Value End If Next rng
I want to change the code that it will copy based on number. Any suggestions?
I have range of filenames. 10989478.MEC0388A-L0_RoHS_globemotors_1.pdf 10989495.Keystone_M1.4cat. zip 10989559.MEC0388A-L0_RoHS_qualtek.pdf I want to copy files starting with 10989478, 10989495, 10989559. I mean ignore the part after "dot".
Is there any way to remove the first part of a string of text in a cell and save the second part?
The first part of the text string is a team code that has a variable number of numbers, capital letters and sometimes spaces. The second part of the text string is a variable number of words in a team name that all start with a capital letter and have lower case letters. Every line has a different team code and team name.
The original spreadsheet also has a column with just team code. Is there a way of using this column to "subtract" the team code from the text string to just leave the team name?
I was wondering if there is a way to write a macro that will take an excel file that I have called Alldata and then have it copy the first two sheets to a new workbook named something else( FullSparameter_0) and then copy the name of the third and fourth sheet into the new FullSparameter_0 workbook and then copy column A-E from sheet dB Alldata.xls and paste it into the FullSparameter_0.xls workbook in the same dB sheet in the same spot. And do the same thing with the Phase Sheet. i know this sounds confusing, but im really new to the VBA stuff.
I just need 15 different files from the original Alldata.xls that will be named FullSparameter_0, FullSparameter_1, .., FullSparameter_14. but each file will have the same two first sheets, Setup Information and Cal Verification, and the same last two sheet names, dB and Phase, but then in the dB and phase sheets, it will copy over the next four columns of data. so in FullSparameter_0 it will have column A-E from sheet dB in Alldata.xls in the dB sheet in FullSparameter_0 (Same with the Phase Sheets). Then in FullSparameter_1 it will have column A and Columns F,G,H and I (for dB and Phase). In fullSparameter_2 it will have column A and then J,K,L and M. Each FullSparameter_X will have the exact same first two sheets and then the other columns for the last two sheets will be pasted into columns A-E in dB and Phase.
I have a template file that I import data in to, which is then saved with the current date. This works, but I want to automate the import of the data, but ensure I don't duplicate the load. Therefore, I have a tab 'FileLog' that I record the filename (variable by date) in column A and Creation timestamp in column B.
How do I obtain the filename and creation timestamp of the import data so that they can be entered?
I am trying to skip over any errors associated with the GetOpenFilename window, specifically where the Cancel button is selected, or no files selected. In the code below, I get an error "Object required" at the line shown every time this is run, even when the file path is valid and correct, and then the msgbox appears as a result of the On Error statement .
myExcelFilePath is dim Variant
On Error Resume Next myExcelFilePath = Application.GetOpenFilename("Excel files (*.xls), *.xls", , "locate Report.xls....") If myExcelFilePath Is Empty Or myExcelFilePath Is Null Then
I try to make a macro for saving an Excel sheet to a .CSV file with "@" as delimiter.
At the line "Open fname For Output As #fnum", the Error 53, "no file found" occurs.
The Excel-help is saying that if the file is not present, a new file will be made.
This error occurs now and then, How to proceed?
Sub SaveAsCSV() Path = "O:actueel" Fname1 = Path & Range("E2").Value & ".csv" fname = Application.GetSaveAsFilename(Fname1, "CSV bestand (*.csv), *.csv", , "") If fname = False Then MsgBox "Macro Geannuleerd" Exit Sub End If
VBA coding for automatically saving an excel file as another file using the current date as part of the file name together with "32ga" as a constant add-in. I also what this macro to run at a particular time of the day let say 00:20hrs. The excel file i want to save as is always open . It has data that changes every 24-hrs.
I have some code that I use to convert files, and it works well, but I would like to make a couple of changes to it. If I run it now it requires user input for every file that is processed, using the input box. Instead of this I would like to use the filename minus the extension as this input.
The next step is selecting the file using the . Instead of this I would like the user to browse for the folder containing .csv files, and select the folder, then use the macro to loop through all files in the folder.
