I am dealing with plotting large amounts of data (millions of cells) across multiple series. Everytime you click, add a new series or do anything it redraws the graph taking a while. This Is there are way to prevent Excel 2003 from plotting a graph until you are done setting it up?
I'm looking for a way to refresh my pivotchart and update my pivot table data every time that a certain macro runs. I could just delete it and make a new one everytime but that runs in to the problem of defining a new sheet every time. Is there a simple way to do this. say I my pivot chart is on "Sheet 7" and it there is only one pivot chart in the workbook and my source sheet is on "Combined Data". and at the moment the data range is "A1:N435" and say next time I run my macro the data range will add 20 rows of data and the next 25.
I have a large workbook 45MB with 40 sheets each containing a section that links to the server to update itself when the workbook calculates. With that being said it's impossible to have the workbook on Automatic calculate because the update process can take about 7-10 minutes so its set to manual. However, I would like to prevent the links from updating (its one link that is used to update the file) by possibly a macro that runs when the workbook opens and prevent the update link from running when I press F9 to manually calculate.
Im handling a graph, line type, that needs to be updated daily, as daily, another cell in the row will be filled.
Anyone can tell me how I can make it update daily and still only show untill todays data. For instance: today is the 7 of May and I want only to show the evolution from the first of the month to the 7th but tomorrow I want it to automatically show from 1 to the 8th,and so on...
The following short macro moves data into an area from where a series of graphs can either be displayed on the screen or printed. It may not be the most elegant of code and the way in which I "jump" around the hard copy option may raise some eyebrows, however except for what follows, it generally works.
When the "S"creen option is taken only the first graph is displayed, subsequent ones are not shown, (the screen does not refresh). What do I need to add to the coding to ensure each graph is shown? .....
I have a series of worksheets, named, 'sheet1' 'sheet2' etc. through to 'sheet10'. A final worksheet, 'sheet11' has been produced that uses the formula: address=Sheet1!A1, address=Sheet2!A1, address =Sheet3!A1 etc. The same goes for other identical cells on each of the sheets. I am at the moment entering each cell on 'sheet 11' separately because if I copy the formula down it progressively changes the cell value and not the sheet number. How can I produce a formula whereby the cells remain identical but the sheets change progressively?
I have a spreadsheet created in Excel 2003 (which is what we use at work, unfortunately).
My employees periodically take a test to ensure they have certain items memorized (or are making progress to that end). The spreadsheet rows show all 46 of my employees, and their test scores. The columns are the dates that the tests are administered. I can create a line graph based on the chart data, and interpolate these data with no problems.
The problem is that there are 46 employees! 46 lines on the same graph make for a very cluttered, hard to understand visual. I want to simplify the view by "filtering out" some of the data.
I have an additional column in my spreadsheet for each employee's work area (Area 1, Area 2, etc), and another column with data based on first letter of last name (the values here could be "A-G", "H-M", "N-S" and "T-Z", for example). I figure i could filter my line graph based on these two columns. For example, somehow select just Area 1, and reduce the number of lines on the graph to 16. Or better yet, Choose "Area 2" AND "A-M" and end up with 7 employees (and therefore 7 lines on the graph).
Here's what i have tried:
1) Select the work area column, and use the Filter, which created a drop-down list at the column heading. When i use this drop-down list, i can easily filter the data in the worksheet by Work Area, but this is not reflected in the line graph, which still shows all 46 lines. The problem was that i forgot that i had set the Calculation Options to "Manual". Setting this to "Automatic" (or leaving it on Manual and pressing F9) solved the problem, as the chart now updates when i use the filters. Calculation options are under the "Formula" tab in 2007, or in Tools -> Options -> [either calculation or formula, i forget what it's called] in 2003.
2) Create several separate line graphs in several separate sheets. I wouldn't want to assign someone else the task of maintaining a spreadsheet of such inefficient design.
I've got a workbook that I'm currently designing and I've just realised that I need to delete a few sheets, paste in some new template sheets and rename them. The problem is, I've already completed my summary sheets and I don't want to have to redo the values. Essentially, I just want to (temporarily) turn off auto-updating of formulas when cells / sheets are changed/moved/deleted.
For practical purposes: I need to delete the sheet named "Jan", paste in a new sheet "MonthTemp", rename "MonthTemp" to "Jan" and have all my formulas not updated (e.g. still referencing "Jan" instead of "#REF!")
I'm coming up with a dynamic graph using VBA. The one originally proposed to me using "offset" and insert chart doesn't work well with an an animation that happens concurrently with the dynamic chart.
So i've come up with a VBA version of it. It works extremely well on Excel 2007 but when i open it with Excel 2003, it just doesn't work in the line highlighted in yellow (below)
Sub create_graph() Dim start_row, Start_col, range, number_of_tries, m, n Dim graph As Chart Dim wks As Worksheet Dim myArray As Variant
I am trying to plot a scattered line graph that contains nearly 4000 points on the y axis. The points represent a day. The x axis is the percentage belonging to that day. The problem that I am having is that the graph looks squashed together and the line is very thick because of this. One of the reasons for this is that a lot of the 4000 points have similar percentages so the line just moves a tiny bit. Is there a way that I can make the graph look more presentable?
The following is a picture of how it looks. You may need to enlarge it to see it properly.
I have attached 2 files. One of them is called Macca.xls. This is the file that was created for me by shg on an excelforum. The other isOreDep_updated.xls - this file is the updated list that I want to convert into the Macca file or make it look like the Macca file.
I awas trying to make a couple of plots, but they were not llooking like some examples I have.
In the OreDep-updated file attachment is my data I needed to use. I needed to make 2 plots:
Plot 1: Resource Grade (log scale) against the proportion of deposits (linear scale)
Plot 2:Tonnage (log scale) against proportion of deposits (linear scale)
This was done with my old data that is shown in the Macca.xls attachment.
They are meant to cumulative proportion plots. As a line or scattergram. An example of what they are meant to look like is at: http://www.nbmg.unr.edu/dox/ofr962/c11.pdf on Page 4 and 5.
shg managed to make them look like I wanted with the log normal smooth line too.
My problem now is that I want to change the data under Name, Resource Tonnes and Resource Grade (basically replace the old data in Macca.xls with the new OreDep_update.xls, to come up with same type of plots). But whenever I try to copy and paste the data into the Macca file it messes up everything. I looked at the formula that was created and I really havent a clue how to change it, without affecting everything else like the plots.
I also need to add 2 new columns for date and for reference, and it wont let me do that.
I am trying to graph the following data in an area chart with line charts superimposed on the area chart. I have a lot of data (and a lot going on) so I'm trying to figure out the best way to show this in excel from a functional standpoing (i can't get this to work in excel!!) to also an asthetic standpoint (dont want it to look terrible or illegible). This is what I'm trying to chart:
1) Weather data (temperature) by region: So one region, would be: Northwest I would like the "area" (so a shaded region) to be the min/max of the temperature data for each month.
2) I would like to show the temperature for each year as a line graph on the chart - so you can see if a year falls in or out of the shaded region.
3) I would like to show a company's sales increases across the same months per year as separate line charts. I may choose to just show the biggest outlier year in the end... or to show 2006 (the latest data).
What I am trying to convery with the chart is that the company's sales is or is not tied to weather deviations. I have attached an excel file with the data. I haven't been able to use the area chart or get a two axis chart to work or get it to look even remotely professional.
I am using Microsoft Excel 2003. There are several charts in the worksheet and the ranges for the series in the charts are defined by named ranges, e.g.:
Values: =FirstNamedRange
where FirstNamedRange is defined as Sheet1!A2:A100.
The values in FirstNamedRange are themselves calculated from other inputs. The problem is that when I recalculate the sheet, changing the values of FirstNamedRange, there are times when the chart does not change.
This happens sporadically. 9 times out of 10 both the values in the range and the chart change. At other times, the values in the range change and the chart doesn't reflect this. If I save the file, close and then reopen, (thus forcing the chart to recalculate?) then the chart looks correct.
I have a chart that display data from a dynamic named range. Problem is the chart only displays the correct data when I first input the named range into the data source on the first attempt. When the dynamics of the named range change, the range the chart displays remains the same. I have read another post on here where someone had the solution, but I couldnt get it to work for me.
I am inputting the named range into Data Source-> Data Range. The other thread said to put the named range into Data Source-> Series. I am unable to enter my named range into Series. I have also tried putting the .xls filename followed by !(named range) into the series boxes but excel will not allow me to do this either.
I have a number of charts (mostly pie) I don't have a legend, but I do have "Show label and percent" selected.
When I add in new data the actual chart updates to show the right sized pie slices... but the values on the labels don't update as well. I can't figure out how to make that happen?
I have created a spreadsheet which uses data validation to allow a user to select a company, start Date, end date, and projected months in order to output different figures. I have attached a spreadsheet to this post in case that was hard to understand.
Since there is data validation, indexing, and matching going on, as different selections are made, various tables change as a result. Uou will be able to see what I mean as you open the example sheet and start messing around with the data validation boxes.
The problem I am encountering now, is creating an exponential graph that will also keep changing as the user changes their selections in the data validation boxes. I am unsure if this is even possible, but I figured it was worth a shot to ask. On the example sheet, I have included a graph similar to the one I want, but it only contains data in a certain range of cells, rather than dynamically changing to accommodate whatever data is outputted.
Here is what I am looking for in the graph: 1. Whatever dates are selected by the user in the data validation boxes, along with the projected dates will be on the x-axis. 2. The PMPM figures associated with the selected dates, and the projected dates on the y-axis. 3. Ability to make different selections from the data validation boxes and still have a dynamic chart that keeps updating itself.
VBA code that would update a chart automatically as you change the inputs which are located in cells in excel. The inputs are located in cells B5:B9 and i want a code so that as you change these numbers the chart would automatically update.
I have the same question as described in Graphs Not Updating When Source Data Updated; however, the poster did not reply to the request-for-clarification questions.
My chart does not always update when my source data changes. My Calculations setting is Automatic (not Manual). There is no macro code working to produce the source data or the chart. My chart is on the same worksheet as my source data. The source data is simple links to other cells in the same workbook that update as the underlying data is updated. Saving doesn't work. Manually calculating (F9) doesn't work. The only way I have found to get the correct data to display in the charts is to open the Source Data and re-enter the Series range. Obviously, that gets old.
I have created some charts for my work and one of them is a line chart that spreads across one year with values for each month. Well they want the graph to always show one month ahead of where we are out. So there is actuals in for Sep. but then the line graph drops all the way to 0 for Oct. I don't want to have the graph bottom out when there is a zero. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I was tracking down simple ways to generate ASCII character based bar charts and came across this stunningIncellBarChartExample where the author suggested this can be done using VBA code.
I am very new to Excel and EXCEL VBA. Can someone help me sketch how the coding for the above example (include mixed colors) might be done? Is there a special font that need to be used?
I need to plot percentages over time in a line graph in excel. I don't want to have to do a percentage equation in the spreadsheet, I just want excel to take two sets of values and display the percentage in the chart. For example, I need B1 as a percentage of B2 for week 1, C1 as a percentage of C2 for week 2, etc....
I've created a spreadsheet which, on running a macro, imports data from a text file, formats it and then sums various parts of it giving me a subset of the large file as a range of data for a chart (a pie chart) on Sheet 2.
The problem begins when I delete the data in the worksheet in preparation for another import - the Pie chart just loses all the data and I have to manually reselect it in the chart each time.
Once deleted the chart is blank, but as soon as the data is imported, I get reference errors when I click on Sheet 2
I must be doing something wrong. You can delete data and repopulate it and the chart should pick up with the new data. If the cells it is referencing are empty, it is blank. Not so here.
Is it to do with importing the data? Or the formula for my chart data?
Is it possible to create a chart using spherical coordinates (radius, theta, phi) in Excel? I want to create something similar to this. I would even be willing to write add-in code to create the graph from scratch, but I don't know if that's possible. Is it possible to create a new chart type without using the other chart types as a base?
I would like to create a chart in vba which contains 2 sets of data, both using the same x axis. The first must be a line graph, the second a staggered bar chart. This must be represented on one chart with data labels. Also, how do I change the colour of the plots?
