Read Entire Row Into An Array

Oct 9, 2007

I have a workbook with about 700 rows and about 40 records on each row. about 2-7 a day of these.
The procedure I currently use a loop for does 2 different things.

1 I collect only a few of the records from the line and place them in a separate sheet .I collect the individual data, identify the ID ( cell F) and then search for the corresponding ID on a nother sheet when I do find it I add the info to the sheet on the last + next row. (I sort later)

2 I collect the entire row and place it on yet a nother sheet.
The whole row has information that is categorised by the content of Cell A (name) so I copy the row and paste it into a separate sheet.

What I would idealy like to do is to copy the entire source sheet into an array once, and then copy the data into each target sheet using a loop to get each record from the array. Using only 1 loop to first read the separate data from the " array row" and place it into the first target sheet (procedure 1) and then switch the workbook and copy the whole "array row" into the target sheet there (procedure 2).

At the moment I read info on 1 row switch to the target sheet and place the information there, then I "copy" the row and switch to the next workbook and paste it there then I go back to the source and do the next row.

Obviously Im no programer and that was the best way of doing what I didnt know how to do better .

Is there a way that a whole row can be stored in an array and then 'copied' onto another row on a nother sheet without reading in the individual cells into separate elements. That would be the worse case scenario but a much faster way of doing what I curently have.

Read A Range Into An Array

Aug 10, 2007

In a Worksheet named "Input" and in Cells "B3:G?" I have 6 number groups. How can I ...

( 1 ) Put each of the 6 number groups into an array when I don't know what the last row number is.

( 2 ) Find the maximum value in any of those cells and attach it to a variable named MaxVal.

... so once I have done this I can then loop through each 6 number group and perform some calculations.

1) is it possible to read 50k rows into a 2d array?
2) is it more efficient to read data into an array for access/manipulation as opposed to a worksheet?
3) can someone show me how to read in a worksheet with 7 cols to a 2d array?

Read Values From One Workbook Into An Array

Jul 7, 2006

I am trying to create a "macro" that will read values from one workbook into an array based on a key field. If the key isn't present the cells data is not to be stored. After the records are stored i want to test them agains a range in a differnt workbook. If the data compared matches a stored value, leave it alone. If there is no match, a cell needs to be added with a value stating a differnce.

Like i stated i am new at this and have no clue how to compare an data array to a field. Let alone read the values into the array.

VBA How To Read Cells Into Variables/array And Use In String

I made the formula work great, however I want to cut it down and simplify it and make it easier to manipulate... as opposed to having the filename written every so many times.. replace with a loop instead.... so:

Private Sub Weeklytestt_Click()
Dim varCurDate As String
If DateYesterday.Value = True Then Answer = "1"
If DateToday.Value = True Then Answer = "2"
If DateTyped.Value = True Then Answer = "3"

Select Case Answer
Case Is = "1"
varCurDate = Format(Date, "yyyymmdd")
varCurDate = varCurDate - 1
Case Is = "2"
varCurDate = Format(Date, "yyyymmdd")..........

Copying Array Formula Down The Entire Column?

Feb 2, 2014

I have an array formula that I need to copy down the entire column. The formula is:

=SUM(IF(IF(K$2>=V3:V5,V3:V5-V2:V4,$K$2-V2:V4+1)>0,IF(K$2>=V3:V5,V3:V5-V2:V4,$K$2-V2:V4+1),0)*W2:W4)

I need the Row values to change, not the "array formula parts" (because I don't know what they really are called). So, as I copy down I need the new formula to read:

=SUM(IF(IF(K$4>=V3:V5,V3:V5-V2:V4,$K$4-V2:V4+1)>0,IF(K$4>=V3:V5,V3:V5-V2:V4,$K$4-V2:V4+1),0)*W2:W4)

The only way I've been able to do that is to rewrite the whole formula in the new row cell.

File May Be Read-Only, Or You May Be Trying To Access A Read-Only Location

Jan 4, 2007

I'm trying to open a file on a network drive...but I'm getting the following error message when it opens: "This file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or the server the document is stored on may not be responding." Now, the file itself has no rights restrictions and is not read only. It doesn't appear to be locked.

Now, there are other Excel files in the same directory which I could open fine; however, the Excel documents having the above problem all have a little black icon "appears to be a padlock" (image attached) at the bottom left hand side of the Excel file icon. I tried the following:

- Renaming
- Converting to a different file format (didn't work, it won't let me)
- Opening in notepad...etc doesn't work.

This file is dated back in 2004...do you think it's corrupt? Is there anything i can do to open or recover this?

Catch An Error And Reset The Entire Code To The Very Beginning And Skip That Entire Entry

Jun 5, 2008

I want to catch an error and reset the entire code to the very beginning and skip that entire entry. When I use "Next fieldSheetName" I get "Next without For," error 1004. Searches tell me I have an open block somewhere, but that's not true. Removing that statement (and having the loop iterate as normal) has no error at all.

Dim employeeName As String
Dim fieldMax, x, y As Byte ' Counters mostly
Dim workedHours, fieldSheetName As Integer

fieldMax = 204 ' Row number to stop on in the field time sheet
row = 4 ' Row specification for field time sheet. Begin at row 4 to ignore headers
' and start on the first name. This should not be changed!
Col = 3 ' Start at column 3 then increase by one to start going to next time entry

' RESET HERE!
For fieldSheetName = 4 To fieldMax Step 8 ' This is our MAIN loop. It iterates from 0 to fieldMax, which is 204...........

Autofill Entire Row With Data From Above Over Entire Spreadsheet

Jul 28, 2014

I'm trying to autofill a series of rows (that are blank) with data from an above row. I want to autofill the row in its entirety, not just filling in blank cells.

For instance (assuming comma is a new column). Colors listed are just a data example. Space between commas indicates a blank cell:

142, RED, GREEN, , YELLOW, , BLACK, PURPLE
(blank row)
142, GREEN, RED, ,BLACK, , PINK, ,
(blank row)
(blank row)
(blank row)
154, YELLOW, BLACK, , GRAY, , PURPLE, RED
(blank row)
(blank row)

So rather than it just completing the task in one desired cell, it would complete the task over the entire spreadsheet. Data spread can be as far as row 500 and column BY, so you can see how a copy + paste or a drag would get monotonous.

Another small example data set:

1,1,1453,0,10,-35
(blank row)
(blank row)
0,0,1448,0, ,-35
(blank row)
1, ,1443,1,3,-36
1,2,1408,2,7, ,
(blank row)
(blank row)
(blank row)
1,2, ,2,7,-39
(blank row)
(blank row)
1,3,1344,1,10,31

And column A will always have data (unless the row is completely blank.

Treating String As Array And Correct Array Format For Unicode Characters?

Jul 30, 2012

in C a string is nothing more than an Array of characters ending with a null character.

in VBA this does not seem to be the case.I am trying to use the BlowFish code from David Midkiff for some encryption, however the code sometimes fails:

When encrypting a string a string of a specific length should be returned. however sometimes one of the characters of the encrypted string is a null character, and the returned encrypted string (with a embedded null character) is causing me problems. I want to check for the null character and if present redo the encryption. But how do I check for the presence of this null character in a unicode (double-byte) string?

Checking with Len(encrypted) gives the correct length (!) but trying to move each (unicode)character into an array fails when using the Mid() function past the null character in the string.

Now I can use

byteArray() = StrConv(unicodetext,vbFromUnicode)

to get the lower byte of each character into an array easily, but how do I do this for both bytes of the unicode characters?

Using an integer array does not work other than through

intArray(j) = CInt(AscW(Mid(Outp, j, 1)))

which fails on the nullstring in my encrypted text.

I have tried with variants but so far no luck. I thought if the string was entered into a variant then I could also address the variant as an array of bytes, but that does not seem to be accepted by VBA.

Converting 3x10 Array To A 1X30 Array To Run A Match Formula

Apr 7, 2009

Say I have 3 columns of data: A1:C10 and I want to run a Match() function on them all together to see if I get a match any one those cells, say the value of have in X1.

Since, Match only allows a One-Column lookup array.. is there a way to "concatenate" or "append" the 3 columns together within a formula so now I would be looking to Match in an array that is 1 column * 30 rows?

Basically want to convert =Match(X1,A1:C10,0) to =Match(X1,A1:A30,0) without moving around the raw data in the sheet.

And I want to avoid doing an AND or OR formula that uses 3 separate MATCH() for each column.

I have a hunch that the MMULT or MMULT/TRANSPOSE functions are involved, but can't seem to get it right.

VBA To Output From Array Based On Variable In One Element Of Array

May 2, 2013

I'm only starting to get to grips with arrays. I have what I consider to be a lot of data that I need to 'cut' into separate workbooks. I have written some code that does this by simply looping through each line, 250k+, checking against a variable and copying the row into a separate sheet. This took longer than it would have doing it manually. It was suggested to me that I use arrays to speed up the process. I have managed to store the test data into an array but am struggling to find a way to loop through and pull out an entire 'row' from the array based on a variable. I have looked for 2 days in various places to find some way to loop through the data held in the array, but to no avail.

That code will appear here from about 8am GMT tomorrow. I know that once I've cracked this I'm on the road to some very significant time saving and comprehensive report writing.

Passing Array To OFFSET - Array Height Parameter

How I can get the {1,2,3,4,5} without having to type it out (so that I can expand this to a larger list)??

Filter An Array (the Longer One) Using The Shorter Array As The Criteria

Aug 26, 2009

I am trying to filter an array (the longer one) using the shorter array as the criteria. I am currently doing this using the following method

IF(LOOKUP(lookup cell, array)=lookupcell, lookupcell, "FALSE")

I then copy and paste 'values' and filter out the 'false' to get my final result.

This has worked in the past, but for some reason that I simply can't figure out, the formula isnt working! I've attached the example, and I've highlighted a number in blue (cell E522 and C103), (that should be being found in the 'LOOKUP' function) but is returning a "FALSE". I have looked over the code and simply can't figure out why Excel isn't returning the right value.

This is obviously happening for a quite a few of my numbers, as my filter result is returning an array that is about 1500 shorter than it should be. I have highlighted E522 as the 'example cell' to look at.

The xls file I have written is used by multiple users at the same time. None of them can actually change the file - it opens data files and imports the data it needs then writes back any changes to the data to those files.

So the "read-only" option that my users see is of no importance to them - can this be bypassed somehow?
