Reference Another Spreadsheet To Open Within Excel Using A Command?
Jun 18, 2014
I want to have 2 spreadsheets in File 1.
The first spreadsheet will contain a form that needs to be filled out by a user for a specific car. In the second spreadsheet, I want to have a list of the cars that have already been filled out in a form before.
So example, someone with a car got into an accident and the report is filed under vin:1234 and vin:1234 is added to the list in the second spreadsheet.
A couple days later another accident report is written up, but when the user enters vin:1234 in the form, it will notify the user that vin:1234 has a report already written up on it. The notification also asks if they want to open the file containing vin:1234. When they click 'yes', it will open the file and allow them to either use the current report for their own, or modify what was already entered.
Is this possible to do within excel? I would constantly update spreadsheet 2 with the vins that have been used to keep it as a database.
I have an excel sheet that has 3 command buttons on it, i am wanting to open a saved excel sheet that i have on my shared drive from the command button. I know the path of the saved file but how do i get the button to open this file?
As well as this i this i also have another command button what i want to open another sheet in the excel document with the command buttons.
Looking for a way to open outlook in minimized state with excel commandbutton? seems like all the code for email put the email in outbox, and will not send.
how to change the formula below which is referencing an internal worksheet, to a forumula that will reference an external worksheet that is located in an excel document on the G: Drive.
I have 3 cpmmandbuttons in a spreadhseet named "Controls" . viz
Trim and Edit Base DataCreateReportArchive
They are always run in the same order.
My Aim is to disable and gray out the Archive button once its assigned macro is run(by clicking it) so that it activates only next time that the workbook is opened.
Using excel 2003. Cannot insert command button on a spreadsheet we have. Almost all icons in the control toolbox are unavailable when Im on this specific spreadsheet. Any new documents I open work fine. Is there some kind of protected spreadsheet that wouldnt allow for a button, picture, textbox label to be inserted??? I didnt make the original sheet but am just editing and improving it.
I would really appreciate any advice you could give, I have attempted to attach a jpg showing the greyed out icons in my controltool box
I have built a Form which displays data from a spreadsheet. The user opens the form by clicking on a command button from the spreadsheet. The Form initially opens with the data from Row 4 of the spreadsheet (because this is the first row of the spreadsheet which contains the data for the form). The user can then sequentially access other rows in the spreadsheet by clicking on buttons in the Form which advance the extraction by one row.
I would like to add a command button to each row of the spreadsheet that would open up the Form and set the values in the Form to the same row which the command sits on.
I have made a userform with some code in it that I would like to be on the spreadsheet itself instead of a user form? How is this done? The problem is getting the below code to work at spreadsheet level since I did not write the code below. I have the button the spreadsheet, but I don't know how to see the name of the button or assign the below command to the button.
I need a macro to copy data from the two combo boxes that appear on the spreadsheet and place the data into cell A for the first combo box and cell B for the second combo box.
I have about 200 command buttons on my spreadsheet. Since there are so many of these, I would like to create a VBA routine to determine the cell name four cells over from the cell each command button sits inside, if possible (each command button is small and sits within its own cell). So the command button in cell F1, will let me pull the data or get the cell name of cell C2.
So I guess I am trying to figure out how to do relative references from a command button. Then this will be put in a public variable and passed to a subroutine which is the same for each command button. Only the data in the cells relative to the command button changes. I thought activecell might be useful for this, but you when press a command button, it doesn't make that cell the active cell.
I just thought there might be a simple solution for this, instead of having each single command button have its own subroutine just so each one can reference cells. All I really need is to run the same subroutine with variables from 200 cells, one at a time.
I need to enable and disable command buttons in my code. These command buttons are located on sheets. I assume that I can simply set the Enable property, but I am having trouble referencing the command button. I thought I could simply reference it by name but that is not working.
I have created a large process map workbook in excel that links to various areas within the document using command buttons.
However, one of the things I need users to be able to see s in a PowerPoint presentation.
All I need to do is create a command button that links to, and opens this .ppt file.
The .xsl and .ppt files will be distributed in a folder to other members of the team so I need the link to not be specific to my computer. Is it possible to avoid using the full path and just use a short path such as .../desktop/tools/process.xls so that as long as they store the folder on their own desktop the link works?
I have a wb with hyperlinks that open other .xls files stored on the LAN. When these files open, the Web Commandbar is displayed. I ran a macro to turn it off, then pasted the following code in the wb module but it doesn't work.
Private Sub Workbook_Open() Application.CommandBars("Web").Visible = False Application.Goto Reference:=Worksheets("Deviation Form").Range("A1"), _ Scroll:=True End Sub
I am trying to enable a command button on opening the Workbook, However it dosent work. I have placed the command button on the worksheet. Programatically it gets disabled on clicking it once. So i want it to be reactivated on reopening the Workbook.
I am trying to create a sheet with 'buttons' on, a bit like a 'linked table of contents', that will take the user to individual sheets (as opposed to clicking on the sheet tabs). I can see how to place Command buttons on a sheet (in this case Sheet1), but I think I need help with the code to make the buttons function as I envisage. Is this in the scope of help via this forum?
I am trying to have a Command Button launch Outlook and attempt to schedule an Appointment.
The person would enter the date on to the cell below and the time as well. Additional I would also want it to grab email addresses from the Recipients box and place them on to the TO field....
I have a main worksheet that has two combo boxes. The first combo box has a list of machines. The second combo box brings up a list of models for the type of machine selected. I would like to insert a command button, that when pressed will open a different worksheet with the specs of the model selected in the second combo box. I am having trouble finding a starting point for the code to have the command button perform this.
I am a casual user of Excel...and not that advanced..but I have noticed that on some of my spreadsheets there is a probelm making an entry or editing via the control F2 key.
When I go to enter either, this blue box appears..."MS Viisual Basic"..with "Can't find project or library"..and if I hit OK...it goes to another box that says "References VBAProject"..and then if I hit OK the entry goes in. I think so how along the line I must have made some entry that looks like Basic..for I have not deliberately done that, as I do not know or have used Basic. So how or what do I do to get this out of my spreadsheet?
I have encountered some difficulty in modifying a macro I wrote into what I need. I created a macro that searches a column (Column C) for a cell value of, "stop", and then it copies everything above that cell and pastes it onto another sheet. In the sample data set that I was using, "stop" first occurred in cell C541, so the macro copies C1:C540 and pastes it onto another sheet. The problem is that the macro created an absolute reference to C540. What I desire is for the macro to use the 'Find' function to locate the first occurrence of, "stop", offset one cell above that cell, and then reference the active cell (which was positioned by these last two steps) in the range that should be copied. Basically, I'm hoping to have cells C1 through the active cell copied and then pasted onto another sheet.
I cannot open an Excel spreadsheet except through the Excel application. This includes through Windows Explorer, on the internet (this forum), in email. I need to save the file first, then open Excel, then open (through Excel) the file.
In Email, I get "System cannnot find the file specified" On this site, I get "Access to the specified device/path is denied" From Explorer, "Cannot find the file.... based on the criteria xls(or one of its components). Make sure the path and file name are correct and that all required libraries are available."
Last time, our IT group couldn't fix it and had to reinstall the entire Office package to get it working again. I'd rather not go through that.
I am just wondering if it is possible to insert a module or a code such that it is user specific.
In detail, there are two types of users: Administrator and User.
If it were administrator, it should ask for a password. If user, it should give the read-only or a protected form of the spreadsheet.
I just need the workbook to pop-up with a msgbox of administrator/user with a radio button or a select button. If administrator, it should ask for a password. Also, disabling the macros should not open the spreadsheet as making this would lead to nothing.
I would like to have a popup appear on the opening of my spreadsheet that warns me of things that are past due or due today. I would like it to be in list form...
For example my source is: Customer 1 Customer 2 Topic Expected Complete Expected Complete
One 05/18/2007 05/10/2007 Two 05/12/2007 05/15/2007 05/18/2007 05/18/2007 Three 05/12/2007 05/17/2007 05/16/2007 Four 05/21/2007 05/17/2007
What I would like to see is a popup that analyzes this data with the result of:
If run today...5/18...................................
I've got a 'Control Panel' spreadsheet which is all based on UserForms. When a user clicks a particular button, it opens one of many separate 'Regional' sheets which they work in.
When the user closes the 'Regional' sheet, I would like the 'Control Panel' sheets userforms to show again. However I can find no way of doing this as it simply switches back to the 'Control Panel' sheet without loading the forms (as I had to hide the 'Control Panel' useforms to give them access to the 'Regional' sheet).
I'm especially having trouble with loops. I'm a little dense in that department. Here is what I am trying to do. I open 3 spreadsheets. I want to consolidate them into one of the spreadsheets. The first obstacle I face is that one of the spreadsheets has a name which varies. It is always called either "PLR.xls" or "PendingLoans.xls". Also, it will have a number at the end depending on how many excel books have been opened so far in the day, i.e. "PLR (2).xls" or "PLR (5).xls". At this point, all I want to do is be able to select this file consistently. I currently have something like this (excuse my syntax - its saved at work and like I said, I'm still learning VBA).
There used to be a way to open an Excel spreadsheet and have it go to a specific sheet....... I want to open Grants.xls and have it always go to the "index" sheet....
I inherited a spreadsheet from a recently let go co-worker. This spreadsheet has a lot of important financial data on it, so I really need to get into the spreadsheet. we contacted the former employee and he said he forgot the password. Is there any work around to get into the sheet?
