I have a variable ("DestFile") that defines a path to a file (used in saving the file)...
I'm in the process of getting a Sub to hyperlink to this file, but in some circumstances, I may only want to hyperlink to the folder, not the actual file...
How would I go about trimming the "DestFile" address to get a "DestFldr" address?...
An example of "DestFile" might be;
S:BryanFor KenGulf ConstructionST0609014-t.xls
(the file name length may vary)
What code can I use to consistently trim it back to;
S:BryanFor KenGulf Construction
as the "DestFldr" variable?

I'm wondering what is the syntax to open a msoFileDialog box and select a file, resulting in setting a variable to the entire file path. If I use
msoFileDialogFilePicker
I'll only get the file name, without the path. I'd like to get the full path ending in the file name.

I do a search on my directory for all *.xls files each month which produces a list some 11,000+ lines long. Attached is a very small sample.
I then import this into Excel – see tab Raw Data
What I want to produce is a list shown on tab Finished Data, so that I can then sort etc.
Has someone already done this before and got the code, or can someone point me in the right direction on how to arrive at the finished data?

I am trying to allow users to select a file, and then the file name/ the file path / and date are added.
Right now, all those functions work in the following code, but the file path shows up as a letter drive. As there could be upwards of 50 people using this file and the mapped drive could be different, i wanted the full path to be displayed.
Code:
Private Sub File_1_overwrite_Click()
Dim filename As Variant
Dim filename1 As Variant
filename = Application.GetOpenFilename(, , "Select Programme")
filename1 = filename
filename1 = Mid(filename, InStrRev(filename, "") + 1)
File_1_link = filename
file_1_name = filename1
File_1_date = Format(Date, "MM/DD/YY")

i'm struggling with a formula to extract the folder names from a file path string i have in col A. I want to take the path value and for each "node" in the path place that string value in cols
Example string:
"pathfolder01subfolder2folder level 3level 4 folderanother folder for 5sublevel 06 folder"
In my example there are 6 folder levels in the path. I want a formula to "strip out" each level of the path string and put it in a seperate column.
Desired result:
A1 = pathfolder01subfolder2folder level 3level 4 folderanother folder for 5sublevel 06 folder
B1 = pathfolder01
C1 = subfolder2
D1 = folder level 3
E1 = level 4 folder
F1 = another folder for 5
G1 = sublevel 06 folder
Note - the folder names LEN is variable of course so a FIND or MID or ??? something else is needed....

I have a UserForm with a button that, when clicked, opens up a File Directory Browser that the user can select the file of their choice.
The code is below :
Private Sub DirectoryBrowser_Click()
Dim fn
fn = Application.GetOpenFilename 'can add parameters. See help for details.
If fn = False Then
MsgBox "Nothing Chosen"
Else
MsgBox "You chose " & fn
'now that you have the name, you can open it or do something else
End If
Workbooks.Open fn
End Sub
What I would like is the filepath (of the file they choose) to appear as the displayed caption on another button or label.

I'm trying to come up with a VBA function that would return cell values based on another cell value.
I can do this by comparing a range (column of cells) with the cell value to match and then return the value of the cell next to it.
For instance,
The function should search a column for partial text, as follows:
TS ID
PDT ID
TS 1.1
PDT 1
TS 1.2
PDT 2
TS 1.3
PDT 3
TS 2.1
PDT 4
TS 2.2
PDT 5
TS 3.1
PDT 6
TS 3.2
PDT 7
In the above table, the function should for partial text and return string as follows:
TS covered
PDTs
TS 1.1, TS 1.2, TS 1.3
PDT 1, PDT 2, PDT 3
TS 2.1, TS 2.2
PDT 4, PDT 5
TS 3.1, TS 3.2
PDT 6, PDT 7
So basically I am searching for partial text TS 1. and so on

I would like to search cells in column D for the partial string, "PIPE," (A full string may look like this: 'PIPE, 24"ODx0.375"WT API-5LX-65,ERW OR SMLS'). Then, if it's there, return the value "LF" in the corresponding cell in column C. If that string isn't found, then I'd like it to return "EA".
I know this seems pretty easy, but there's a small problem. The word "BENT PIPE," could be in Column D, in which case, I would want it to return "EA" instead of "LF".

I have a spreadsheet!
I have two sheets, one of which contains film names and the other contains our tag structure for our website (which is a list of tags, their keywords and the primary parent channel they live under).
What I am trying to do is search the film titles and if any of the words match either the tag name or keywords then return the relevant channel.
Example:
Sheet 1 - Films
How To Apply Bridal Makeup
How To Fight A Donkey
How To Write Excel Formulae
Sheet 2 - Tags
Channel / Tag / Keywords
Tech - Microsoft - windows vista xp word excel
Tech - Computers - internet pc
Tech - MP3 Players - iPod Zune
So, for film 3 on Sheet 1 it would recognise the word Excel in the keyword list and return the channel Tech.

My Excel 2010 spreadsheet contains client data like the below:
A
B
C
D
E
What I'm trying to get from this is a personally addressed email with 2 attachments, one will be standard to all recipients and one will be unique and specific to that recipient. The filename of the unique attachment will contain the reference but will have some other stuff in the filename as well on either side that I will not be able to remove.
In terms of the file locations the unique ones will be in subfolders of the folder holding this workbook and the generic one will be in the same folder as the this workbook.This is some adapted code that solved a similar problem (in Excel 2007 though) on a different website.
VB:
Sub Mail_Report()
Dim OutApp As Object
Dim OutMail As Object [code]....
In that case the file started with the "reference" field but in my case it is in the middle and the formats vary depending on the provider, there will only be a maximum of 5 providers but I would like to avoid 5 different macros if at all possible so I need a search function of some sort.

I have a situation where a word (in this case "Restaurant") is misspelled in a list of about 78,000 location names. The location names are in one column, and the [misspelled] word "Restaurant" is anywhere between the first word of the string, to the last, with any amount of alphanumeric/symbol characters between. For example:
Alice's Restaurant
Alli's Restaurant & Bar
Alexis Restaurant of Waukesha
Amigo's Mexican Restaurant #2
I want to replace any misspellings of the word with correct, but since the list is so long, and the way the word is misspelled varies so much, going through manually is entirely too time-consuming.
Some of the variations I've seen so far are Resta, Restau, Restaur, Restuara, etc...
Is there a way to search and replace cells that contain the text in any location of the string? Specifically, where ever there is JUST "Restau", replace with "Restaurant", regardless of where it is in the string? This way, trailing text is not deleted or manipulated, i.e. "Alice's Restaur and Bar" will change to "Alice's Restaurant and Bar".

Working with a scheduling report and trying ultimately to get it down to a line item report with the associate information and their earliest start and latest end for the week. Already made a lot of fixes to the formatting involving junking empty cells and trash data, but running into a road block on some of the trash data.
Here is the format of the report at this point. Names have been changed to protect the innocent.
Agent: 2366 Bacon, Kevin
Date
Start
End
[Code].....
So what I need is something that will iterate through the report...such as an while and find the cells in column A that start with "Agent:" It needs to compare that cell to a stored value to see if this "Agent:" is a repeat. If it is then it needs to delete that row and the next one and shift up. If it is not then it overwrites this "Agent:" with the previous one in the stored value and continues the while.
I know what I want to do...but not shure on the code cause I am not great at VBA.
Oh...if it matters probably need to allow for about 10k line items to iterate through...right now report is at 6k...but allow room to grow.

I have a spreadsheet with 1,000 rows of data.
Each Cell in Column A has a different long text string.
I need to see which (if any) of 10 specific small text strings exist within each long text string. Depending on which small text string is found I want to return a 3 digit code. If no small text string is found I want to return "Not Found"
E.g.:
- Cell A2 contains "randomtext,randomtext,APPLE,randomntext"
- I want to see if Cell A2 contains any of the words APPLE, ORANGE, CARROT.
- I want to return "APP", "ORG", "CAR" or "Not Found"
Q: What is the most elegant way to accomplish this within a single formula that I could paste into each cell in Column B?

I would like to enable my user to search on any one of about 4 columns, when the result(s) are found I need to return the full row to a result form. I've had no problems getting the information from the form to the worksheet but I've run into a few problems now. I should be able to be able to return the rest of the row with the result if I can determine a way to return the row number. Anyway these are the things that I need (in a nut shell):
1. Return a row number
2. Pass values to a form who should be able to change according to the size of the array
3. Have an array of variable size, with variable headers.

How to save a file, with file- name. but the directory is to be read in worksheet "towns" in Cell1 (brussels) and filename in worksheet "names" in cell B2 (i.e. winter), so it saves to c:russelswinter.txt as a wordpad or kladblok txt file, that keeps a number, so each time we push a button "go back from worksheet names to worksheet towns" the "number" that is saved in the txt document goes up by value +1. In Flemisch, the "old" code goes as follows, and saves the number in the txt file Factuurnummer7.txt. But I want that the file name (here: FactuurNummer7) can be a variable text issue, which has to be read - as already noticed - in cell B2 (with the word WINTER). So the are 2 worksheets: towns, ans names

'controle = Dir(pad$ + "FactuurNummer7.txt")
'If controle = "" Then GoTo EerstAanmaken
'Open pad$ + "Factuurnummer7.txt" For Input As #10
'Input #10, Nummer1
'Close #10......................

Below is the current code I have for File Copy before the workbook closes. This file will be distributed all over and obviously will not have the same old path and new path locations as I have in my code also will not have the same file name. Is there anyway to still perform the file copy without knowing the old path and file name and possibly have message box pop up to ask the copy to location and use that in the new path string?
Sub Macro1()
Dim fs As Object
Dim oldPath As String, newPath As String
oldPath = "I:EXLDATAMC Daily" '<---Where the file is currently located
newPath = "H:South RegionOrlando Mail Services2008DI" 'Since the super shared drive is super slow we will just copy and replace this file each time before we close and of course after we save
Set fs = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
fs.CopyFile oldPath & "" & "OrlandoMail.xls", newPath & "" & "OrlandoMail.xls"
Set fs = Nothing
