I have a series of procedures I am calling from a function that each run fine when executed individually. These procedure are titled: DataValidation, Test1, Test2
The function will not run past Test2- I do not get the msgbox "Stage 2"

I have a simple/dumb question... How do you "capture" a value that is returned by a custom function.
I have tried searching the forums for this & I know that I should by all rights know how to do this by now... but I just can't figure it out.

I know how to pass variables to Functions, and tried this one out & it worked splendidly for my needs, but how do I take the value of "MyWeek" and use it in the subroutine that I am calling it from?
Basically someone has coded a VBA script to pull a users details from AD when a button is clicked, using the staff id as the search criteria.
I've amended the criteria so it uses Environ$(USERNAME) to find details of the current logged on user, but i am struggling to get the resulting information out of the Sub to be used in other Subs! It currently just fills a cell with the required info.
1. Can a Subroutine be called from within a user-defined Public Function? How?
2. Is there a difference between calling a subroutine with a 'Call Sub_Name' statement, vs. calling the subroutine with an 'Application.Run'(?? or similar) statement?

I have a macro that calls functions from another workbook.
For example:

But when I get an error in CellChange function from "common.xls" workbook, debugger points only to the third line of the code above, not to the bad line in called function.
Is there any way to change this behaviour (maybe some tool etc.)?
I have a function in a cell triggered on the value returned by a DDE link in another cell.
e.g. cell A1 contains =function1(A2) and cell A2 contains
=ADVFN|NYSE_CAT!CUR
function1 is triggered each time the DDE link updates regardless of whether the result returned has changed or not. How do I prevent function1 being triggered if the returned value has not changed?

Below is a simple matirx of expenses, that shows a sum total of 3297. I want to change the number 3297 to 5000 and I want the rows and columns to add up to that total based on the same % relationship that existed when this matrix added to 3297
This technique is useful when you are trying to spread changes in a plan and you need to develop placeholders that add up and accross to the new target i.e, 5000 based on the previous targets % relationships that existed when the row and columns added up to 3297
I can use the analyzer, but when it finds its solution it returns negative values as part of the solution. I'm missing something in trying to set the parameters so that it won't return me negative #'s.
i need to create a function macro Called FSTD that inserts words into a cell and conditionally formats them depending on th number in the cell on the left.
in the sheet there are ranges that the number will fall between.
Example
Cell B1 is the cell were i want to run the function in
Cell A1 is the cell with the number that is used in the function
Cells A3:A7 are that ranges that i need to use in the function
E.g. if the number in A1 is less than A6 = i want "P" to appear in the cell with a red backround
if the number is greater than A6 but less than A5 = i want "M" to apear with an orange back round
if the number is Greater than A5 but less than A4 = i want "E" to apear with a green backround
even if it is possible to do without changing the backrounds, just to insert the letters
I have written a user-defined function that searches for a small range within a larger range. The function requires two input parameters: the range you are looking for, and the range you want to look within.
For example, I might look for the string of values in cells A1:D1 in a larger range E1:H20. The function returns the row number in the larger range where the smaller range is found.
My problem is this: The function is working fine when I call it from another sub procedure. However, when I try to run it as a worksheet function, I get a "#VALUE!" error. The function pops up in the "insert function" menu, and it prompts for the two input parameters.
I am trying to use the simplest code possible (being a novice) to execute a macro which makes a copy of Cell A1:A4 and paste its values to Cells B1:B4 if cell B5=1 (or whatever). The Macro with copy and paste works (I recorded it and in my testing it was ok). And also the function, that contains If-Then status of cell B5, works and calls correctly the Macro.
Yet when the macro is called by the function (=CopyMyCells(B5)), the Macro (MacroCopy) runs - I tested this with a Msgbox - but stops just in doing what I need, i.e. in doing the copy-paste process. Here the code which is placed in a module of the proper Worksheet (Excel 2003, on WinXPSp3):

This is great only when I evaluate the function test() one cell at a time. When I copy this formula to other cells or perform autofill Excel thinks that the active cell is the first cell in the series.
What I really want is for the function to return the column of the CELL that contains the function, and not the cell that's last clicked.
I'm trying to calculate and average using a time frame in the day. I want to use a certain number "X" that correlates to a hour/minute in the current time. How do I write a statement to get me the correct "X" value?

I have used the MAX function to populate the most recent date in a series.
-EX. the most recent date input into the cells S8, T8, U8 will populate in cell R8. There is a default value of 0-Jan-00 that automatically populates in cell R8 as a result of the MAX Function. Any value that is input into cell S8, T8, U8 will show in cell R8 immediately after being input as a result of the MAX Function.
I need cell R8 to remail blank until the last of cells S8 or T8 or U8 has been input (in no specific order). Once the last cell has been filled; it is only at that time I need cell R8 to show that most recent date input into any of cells S8 or T8 or U8. I can't hide the column, I need cell R8 to remain empty until the last of the three cells- S8, T8, U8 has been filled (the last cell filled will not always contain the largest value or most recent date).
I would like to make the SUMIF function conditional on recognising 1 word among a series of text within a cell.
For example, SUM all cells containing word PINK, even if there are other words in the cell also.
I cannot get the SUMIF function to pick words out of a cell, it will only SUM up if the whole text matches what is in the cell.
I have a small problem using the ‘sumproduct function’ which I am using it to calculate the area under curves using the following equation (=SUMPRODUCT((B10:B109-B9:B108)*(D10:D109+D9:D108))*0.5). However I have hundreds of curves to calculate the area under and the length of the data series for each curve is different, I am currently changing the length of the data series by hand. I have attached an example worksheet of 2 sets of data (the formula I am using at the moment is highlighted in blue – row 203). Is there are function or formula that I can use inside this equation to change the range of the formula depending on the length of the data series?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI run a large simulation experiment. I have a loop plotting data in excel of a user defined area. Because of the limit of 255 series I have allowed a maximum of 250 simulations (they all need to be plotted). But the length of each simulation is free. I know there is a limit of 32.000 data points in a graph and I have this as a condition too.
If I set the data range to 100 columns and 3000 rows the graph is produced when I plot by columns. (code below)
But if I set the data range to 250 columns and 1000 rows I get the above mentioned error message. Even though I only have 250 series.
After the data is plotted it is the code below that gets the error:

I just recently installed Excel 2007 and I would like to know if it's possible to change all data points of a chart at the same time. In Excel 2003, I would normally hold down shift while clicking on each of the data points to make a global change. However, it appears I cannot do that in 2007.
I would like to display each data point's series name. When I go to Layout on the Excel Ribbon, and click on "Data Labels", and click on "More Data Label Options", the actual Y-axis values are shown for each data point. However, I do not want this - I actually only want the Series Name, but when I uncheck "Value" and check "Series Name" instead (under "Label Contains"), it only changes it for one of the series. Is there a better way, instead of going through each and every single series to make this change?

I have a list of data on one sheet and a 'reports' page on another sheet. The reports page has several pivot tables and a pivot chart. I want the pivot chart to format the bars on the chart relevant to the series name. The series names are "R" "A" amd "G" for Red Amber and Green respectively, I want the chart to change the colour of the series so that it is the correct colour ie. "R" would be coloured Red, "A" would be Amber and "G" would be green.

I have 2 sub, and I want to use the same variables that reference values on my spreadsheet.
for instance, I declare and set ws as worksheet("sheet1") in the first sub.
in the second one, I also want to reference to the same ws. Instead of having to declare it twice, being redundant, what would be a good way to do this?
How can I have a sub repeat itself? I have a code and I want it to ask the user at the end if they would like to do it again. If so the whole sub needs to be repeated. I'm sure this has something to do with looping, but I don't know how to manage this.

I currently have a series of 50 numbers for each row on a 300 row spreadsheet. I would like to write a formula that identifies the six largest numbers in that series and adds them together. So, for example, if the series was 8-6-4-4-4-5-1-1-0-15-3-9, the formula would spit out 47 (15+9+8+6+5+4)
How do I write that kind of formula?
I would like to have two series of data using the same X axis (date, formatted in months). The Y axis is in intervals of 100,000.
The first data series is historical (actual) data (i.e. Jan 2009 to August 2011). The second data series is forecast (Sept 2011 - August 2012). So i want the forecast series to start immediately after the historical series. It is a 'line with markers' chart. The key objective is that the forecast data looks visually distinct from the historial series.
