URL Longer Than 256 Characters - Importing From Web Excel Sheet

When trying to import an excel file (.xlsx) from the web to a local excel file on my computer, I have tried to set up a macro to automate this process. I recorded a macro using the "record macro" function, but when trying to import the .xlsx file, the URL was too long and Excel does not allow for such long URLs.
The URL in question is:

One solution which I thought of was to shorten the URL with tinyurl.com, which converted the URL to: [URL] . I then used this in the macro recording and it indeed worked. I then tried to substitute all instances of the tinyurl in the VBA code with the long URL, but the

was regarded as an invalid cell/argument.
Is there any way in which I can make this work? I need to have the whole URL, as in the end I plan to have an automated process with the URL changing every 10 seconds with the system clock (and thus refreshing the imported table every 10 seconds), so going through tinyurl every time is not an option.

I am using Excel 2007. When I pulled up a workbook today with 3 sheets in it, all that comes up is the first sheet and the sheet tabs at the bottom of the screen are no longer there. I must have accidentlly pushed some button, but I can't get to the other sheets. I really need the information on the other sheets. How do I restore the view that shows the sheet numbers at the bottom?

I am submitting a book CSV file to my website. However, the website will not accept any cell that contains more than 80 characters. The error states the following. "WARNING: Title should be less than or equal to 80 chars; your Title was truncated to 80 chars" repeated 13 times.

I have a large list of parcels to be delivered which have names, the last 2 letters of the postcodes, addresses tel. no. etc. I have created a custom sort list of postcodes in the order I want to deliver them. I can only list a total of 85 postcodes since there are 2 characters in each postcode and a return at the end of each line, hence 85*3=255.
Is there any way I can make excel sort my list of parcels using a spreadsheet list of the 2 postcode letters of unlimited length? There is a theoretical maximum of 676 postcodes in my area (26*26) so I would need it to be at least this long. It would also be more convenient if it were an excel based list since the editing of such a list would be more convenient.

I have inherited a spreadsheet that will prompt the user for a text file to import and it will split each line into different cells based on column widths. The problem is that one field can contain non-printable characters that are causing the macro to split the data into 2 lines.
I think one of the special characters is a new paragraph but there could be others.
I need help with replacing these special characters with a space prior to spliting the line into an array.

All of the sudden, I've started having issues on one PC with Excel opening CSV files.
I work with these files every day and they work on other computers.
The problem is that if the field value starts with a dash, Excel will not show any records before that. Meaning, if there is a record on line 50000 that starts with a dash, it will not show the previous 49000 records.
I can open the file in Notepad++ and find all '- and replace it with ' and it will work fine. But I have hundreds of files.
This just started. I'm using using Office 2010 x64. I'm tempted to get Office 2013 to see if this will resolve it as something has obviously went wrong.
In the past, I would open the CSV files just like any Excel file and NEVER any issues. I would do this with multiple files each day but even the file that I use to not have issues with in the past is now an issue if it has a dash in a field.

I was using some Excel Macros as shortcuts to go to and log into some common web sites I use everyday. After my company upgraded us from XP to windows 7 the macros stop in the middle on a line of code(in bold) and I am not sure why. Do I need a pause or delay to give it time?

I have a workbook created in Excel2003 as an xls with a nuumber of buttons to call macros. I converted it to an xlsm in Excel2007 and now get the message "((#Ref.xls could not be found..." whenever I click any of the macro buttons. Event code in the individual worksheets works fine.

In an effort to manipulate the xml documents within an xls, you used to be able to change the extension to .zip then open. This no longer works for me, just getting the 'cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive.
I have tried it with a number of different files, but no joy.
It still works with a .doc so I guess it's not that Microsoft have stopped this capability?

I've created a spreadsheet at work that has two summary tabs which contain hyperlinks to around 30 separate sheet tabs.
On each sheet tab there is a list of unique values in column A (and other information relating to each value in columns B to D which are repeated for more than one unique value). In column E, users enter a test script name against each unique value they wish to 'reserve', and the macro picks out the unique test script names and via the COUNTIF formula counts the frequency of each test script name for each of the different values in column B.
My problem is that the macro seems to work fine if the workbook is not shared, but errors if the workbook is saved as shared. The error is 'Run time error 1004 - Unable to select the MergeCells property of the Range class'.

I'm currently using Excel 2010. Before, when ctrl+v'ing a cell that wasn't a number (but was, for example, a function), I could immediately after press ctrl, bring up a paste menu, and press v to paste as a value.
So before, if I had a range of cells that were functions (say something simple like "=D3/E3" on F3 and dragged down), I could do the following to paste the range into another worksheet:
1. Ctrl+shift+down to select the entire range
2. Ctrl+C
3. Ctrl+V into a different worksheet (at which point everything shows up as either "#DIV/0!" or as the wrong number, depending on cells to the left)
4. Ctrl (brings up the paste menu)
5. V (selects "values")
6. The entire range is now pasted as values, and not as functions
Recently, however, clicking on "ctrl" after pasting brings up no paste menu. I haven't changed any settings. I will lovingly serenade the first (and second, and third) man (or woman) that figure out what settings I must change or what I must do differently.

I have this code that first selects a sheet (data) and then imports a csv-fil to the data sheet.
I want to hide the data sheet and the the code doesn't work.
How do I change the import code so that I do not select the sheet?

I found this code on the net, and it works, it DOES import the sheet specified from a closed status, but it adds 0 where there were blank cells.
The worksheets are static, the names will not change, but the information on them varies in # rows but the # of columns depends on the page..
The use of this import is to upgrade the program, by importing the sheets from the old version.
The first part browses for the file, which is good, because it could be stored anywhere and named anything.. I have it set up to "Click to Import"....

I have a multilevel XML file. Attached my1.zip (XML files cannot be uploaded as is, hence I had to zip it). When I import the XML into excel, it creates multiple columns for the multilevel data. However, I need the multilevel data as additional rows. I have attached another excel file sample.xlsx which shows how excel imports the XML and how I actually need the data to be.

Im trying to import data from a plumbing supply website to an excel spread sheet.
On the supply house web site, for each part catgory there are corresponding pages containing a price list data table.
there are from 1 to 3 pages (price list data tables) for each part category.
i can import data from page 1 and page 3 fine. When i try to import data form page 2, it returns no data, or imports page 3 (instead of 2)
I spoke to the person who designed the website and he said that it was a problem within excel and not a problem with his program. (said it was a problem with excel not being able to recognize the page)

I know similar questions have been asked before, but I couldnt work out how it is done.
Basically I have several xls files with the same name, eg. "test" with an alternating number at the end. 1 - ....
each of these workbooks contain several sheets but all books are the same just with different information on it. each workbook has got a summary sheet in it, i want to import all summary sheets into a single workbook called summary. but each sheet should be imported as in individual sheet.

I have a workbook called summary with a sheet called "detail" I have 4 workbooks Called week 1, week 2, week 3 and week 4. All the week workbooks have a sheet called Summary. I need to import the summary sheets from each week workbook into the the detail sheet. All workbooks are in the same folder. I need to only copy columns A,D,F,G.
If someone can post code or point me towards a thread I can figure what changes need to be made. I am getting better but slowly!

I have a template i'm making that is full of formula references to sheets not yet in existance in the workbook. what i want to happen is this: My code imports data files, renames the tabs to 1, 2, 3, 4... The formulas i already have are set in the CONCATENATED tab.... an example of such a formula is: ='1'!$P2.
so this should work, and yet it doesn't. the sheet is imported as it should be, the tab is renamed to 1, and yet the CONCATENATED sheet still shows #REF for the cell value. if i click in the cell, click in the text bar and enter out, the formula updates. there apparently is no option that i KNOW OF (although i'm sure there is something out there that does...) that will update this without me entering into the text bar and entering out.
Question: how do i manually update all references once the sheets to those references have been imported?

I have an acess database where I export the data into a blank excel workbook and then copy and paste the data into a report file. My goal is to automate this process and my first thought was to add a button into the access database and have it export to an excel template, but using/editing the access database is not an option, so, that leaves me thinking about automating this process from excel. Is it possible to export data from an access database into cell A1 of a tab?

Basically, I have a column that contains a list of names of files without the extension, ie "A2=File1" What I want, is for excel to open the file associated with the name in the column, "(A2).xml", and extract a value from that.xml file and insert it into B2.
I have searched and all of the examples I find aren't quite what I am looking for. I have an add-in that works exactly the way I want it, but does not extract certain values that I need it to. This is a commercial add-in so I don't have the source code for it or else this would be a snap.

I want to know people's experiences on different databases and suggestions on which database i can use maybe.
On this moment i do everything in excel, but excel is not longer working properly because of large files that need to be connected to 1 or more sheets.
This is the situation now:
VAX (Dos bases database) -> Comma seperated Files -> Importing in Excel -> Linking the data to sheets.
Now I want to have a database where i can do all normal operations to have a good look and the situation of stock status, ordered parts, sales etc. (inventory control)
Who has experiences with databases ? And what are you doing with that database?
