VBA To Exit Excel Application Not Only Workbook?

Feb 17, 2012

I have some code that I am using to save and close the active workbook, this code works perfectly, but I need the code to also close the excel application, not just the workbook. I have tried active window.close but it didn't work even though when I recorded the actions that was the code that I was give.

background -I set a task in my OS to open the workbook, then I wrote some code on the Workbook.open trigger to run and then save and close, but only the activebook closes.

Exit Function- The Result Returned To Me And Exit (all) Open Functions

Apr 24, 2009

I would like to call upon a function until a certain criterion is fullfilled. Then, I would like to have the result returned to me and exit (all) open functions. For value1 = 1 and value2 = 10 I expect value1*value2 = 100. Instead, the routine returnz zero. What is the logical flaw in the code below.

Function testfunction(value1, value2)
If value1 = value2 Then
'Calculating the difference
testfunction = value1 * value2
Exit Function
ElseIf value1 < value2 Then
value1 = value1 + 1
Call testfunction(matrix1, matrix2)
End If
End Function

Workbook Still Asks To Save On Exit?

Mar 21, 2012

I have some code that does some maintenance on my workbook, calls a second macro to delete all of the VBA and saves it with a new name.

However, after it finishes and I try to exit Excel, I am still prompted to save the workbook. I'm not sure why because the last thing my code does is save the workbook and no additional changes have been made.

Code:
'Loop through all cells
For Each Sht In ThisWorkbook.Worksheets
With Sht

Excel Called From VBS Does Not Fully Exit

Nov 5, 2009

I am trying to sort a csv file through a VBScript. My problem is that Excel continues to run as a process on script completion. Running multiple variation of this script results in multiple instances of Excel being present in the WinXP Process Manager.

Set xlObj = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
xlObj.Visible = false
xlObj.Workbooks.Open "C:Test.csv"
xlObj.ActiveWorkbook.ActiveSheet.Range("A1").Sort xlObj.ActiveWorkbook.ActiveSheet.Range("A1"),,,,,,,0
xlObj.ActiveWorkBook.Save
xlObj.ActiveWorkBook.Close true
xlObj.quit
set xlObj = Nothing
As a second part to my question, is there any way to modify the code to allow multiple field sorts, i.e., A1 is Primary, C1 is secondary?

Excel 2010 :: Crashes On Macro Exit?

Dec 20, 2013

The macro does numerous things, including deleting the sheet that was active when it is called. If the sheet is not deleted, there is no crash. Otherwise, Excel crashes as soon as the VBA interpreter hits "Exit Sub". The Excel message is simply "Excel Stopped Working". The macro also saves the workbook before finishing, and the saved workbook opens just fine, but it's unacceptable to have to kill Excel and restart it every time (I am not the main user for this spreadsheet). I'm using Excel 2010 on Windows 7.

Application.Run Macro In Different Workbook

Jun 19, 2009

Ive got a script in which I call another script using the Application.Run method. The exact line is below:

Application.Run "'" & wb & ".xls'!save_case", sheetname, fieldvalue
The macro runs fine, but after that a different workbook becomes active. There are a couple more lines of code after the line above that don't get executed (ive tested this by putting a MsgBox command after it).

How do i pass control back to the starting subroutine? Or should it and there is something wrong with my code?

Close Workbook With Application.OnTime

Jul 28, 2009

I didn't receive a response to a previous post where I was trying to use a batch file to close and open a workbook at a scheduled time everyday. I was thinking about this problem over the weekend, and thought that it would probably be easier to just use a macro to close the file at a certain time everyday (if it is open) and then use a batch file to open the file a couple of minutes later.

I'm having problems with what I thought should be pretty simple though. I tried this to close the file at 5:15pm

Excel 2010 :: Control ENTER And EXIT Event Firing With Frames Active?

Oct 22, 2011

I'm having some trouble getting control ENTER & EXIT events to fire properly when having controls embedded on frames within a userform. I'm using Excel 2003, 2007, & 2010. Here's the userforms I'm working with:

With FRAME:

Without FRAME:

In both cases, the DESCRIPTION field is disabled. The selectable controls on both are a combo-box, textbox, listbox, & 2 buttons. On the FRAMED version, the combo-box & textbox are contained on a FRAME.

Here's the code, same on both userforms:

Code:
Option Explicit
Private Sub cmbRecipes_Enter()
ListBox1.AddItem "ENTER - " & cmbRecipes.Value
End Sub
Private Sub cmbRecipes_Exit(ByVal Cancel As MSForms.ReturnBoolean)
ListBox1.AddItem "EXIT - " & cmbRecipes.Value
End Sub

All this is doing is posting a message to the listbox when the combo-box ENTER & EXIT events fire. This works as expected without the FRAME, ENTER is shown when the combo-box is entered and EXIT is shown as focus is moved to another control. But when running it on the FRAMED version all I get is a single ENTER event recorded regardless of how I move the focus through the control set.

Another oddity is that if I have more than 1 control that can receive focus on the FRAMED version, it appears to work correctly.

Excel For Mac, Application.FileSearch Not Working

Nov 3, 2009

This relates to Excel for Mac 2004

I'm trying to use Application.FileSearch in a procedure to open files in a folder one by one and then do some stuff. It works fine when I developed it on my Windows machine but won't work on the Mac platform. The culprit instruction seems to be the

Application.FileSearch instruction, and I've also tried what I think may be a Mac equivalent Application.FileFind, but I get the 'Object doesn't support this action' error.

So I wrote a simple procedure below just to test the .FileSearch instruction but this fails in the same way.

Any ideas anyone? I've commented out lines which relate to Windows syntax.

Excel 2013 :: Worksheet Freeze With Application?

May 28, 2014

I encountered a strange anomaly where a worksheet "freezes" when Application.DisplayFormulaBar = False. I can only replicate this in Excel 2013. Excel 2010, for example, works perfectly well, and as expected.

[Code].....

To replicate the anomaly (Excel 2013 only):

1. In a new workbook, insert an ActiveX command button on "Sheet1", no code required.

2. Run the following code

[Code] .....

3. Click on the command button.

4. Now click on any cell and try to enter a value.

Is your screen "frozen"? If so, go to another sheet, return to Sheet1 and try again. Does it work?

Here's an alternative code for MyTest() that causes no problems. Can spot the difference? Is there a reasonable explanation?

[Code] ....

Even more curious, call the following MyTest3 on Workbook_Open() and the workbook behaves. Run MyTest3 again and the screen starts freezing(!)

[Code] .....

For those who use Application.FileSearch in Excel and Access, it's a huge pain that the object has been hidden in Office 2007.

I spent some time looking around for alternatives and have found two so far.

1. A FileSearch class that you can add to your project. Instead of using Application.FileSearch, you reference FileSearch instead

2. You can also use VBScript.

Excel 2003 :: Saving Files Generated By External Application

Jul 23, 2013

VB:
Sub FormatMacro1a(ws As Worksheet)
ws.Copy
Rows(1).Delete
Columns("D:E").Cut Destination:=Columns("J:K")
Columns("F:K").Cut Destination:=Columns("D:I")
Range("E1:E201").Value = "0"

As it stands I have the file saving in a new format and I can open a specific file in softplot through VBA however where I am getting stuck is opening my newly saved file and then saving it.

I have tried the following :

VB:
